Aiken SC store never has more than 1 cashier working. This store is too large for only one cashier. Cut costs somewhere else, not the checkout lines. In addition, your prices are too high. I will be going to a market further away from my house and driving by your store because of poor business decisions by FoodLion.
Saturday 12/10/2011 I went to the local Food Lion in Bluffton SC and went ot the Deli Dept. Two women were behind the counter talking and complaining about thier jobs. I waited a few minutes without being offered service. I called out and asked for someone to help me and was ignored again by the women who kept up thier conversation. Finally one of them walked over with her hand on her hip and just stared at me with the nastiest look on her face. I told her to forget it and I would go elsewhere for my cold cuts. I spoke to the manager and asked her to address the issue with her staff. This is not he first time that the attitude of staff at this store has been rude. If food lion wants to keep it's customers then they need to find out how each stores staff respond to the public.
Food Lion waste too much food in the Nags Head, NC store. Perfectly good food instead of being marked down before the best if bought by date for the customer to save money is trashed. But, an employee can not take home any items for his or her family or buy the items for a cheaper price so, every day the dumpsters outside are packed full of food. I know someone who is a vegetarian and does not eat regular cheese but, wanted to bring home a small amount for his dogs. The manager saw him with the food before he had punched out and fired him. He was accused of stealing. This man tried to explain to the manager that he wanted it for his dogs. He would have left it to be trashed (Which it was anyway) but, he wasn't given a chance to even say he was sorry for something he had not even done. Is there something this man can do? This man has worked for two years at this store.
I would like to know how a large company like food lion gets by with discriminating against people. Racial and otherwise. The Nags Head stores are dirty. Foods are trashed when near the expiration date rather than marked down for customers. At the end of the day the dumpsters are packed full of perfectly good food. If an employee ask to take home anything for his dog or his neighbors dog, he is told a flat no. I know of cases where a certain neighbor of mine has offered to pay for certain items at a lower rate rather than trash it but the answer is always no. Yet he later in the day is instructed to haul cart fulls to the dumpster. Should he lose his job over trying to bring home a small amount of cheese for his dogs but, instead of getting permission he is accused of 'taking' it. He doesn't eat cheese by the way. I am sick of these stores because of the way people are treated.
Watch out when buying at Food Lion. They think people is stupid when buying. They think we do not check what we buy there. They are charging the wrong item so you pay more. I went to one of the Food lion stores to buy some vegetables. I got zuchinni that it was on sale that day. When I got home I realized they charged cucumber (the price was higher), I did not go to the store to complain because it was quite far. Today I went again to the same store and bought broccoli bunch (on sale), this time I reviewed the ticket and suprise!!! they charged me crowns instead bunch (price higher of course). I don't think it was an accidente since has happened twice. I don't think I will ever go there again. WATCH OUT PEOPLE!!!!
I am not writing to rate your store but on another issue. I have come across some checks deducted from my checking account that were not written by me. In dealing with both managers here in South boston Va., they have been more helpful in researching these checks and will be pulling the survelliance tapes for review to find out who has stolen my checks. The check cashing policy at your stores needs to change. You have opened yourself open to a haven for thieves to cash checks with no one asking for identification. Why in the world in today's world and given the herendous stealing that is taking place in our country would you allow such a policy. The average hard working individual such as myself can have checks stolen from her and cashed at your store with no one ever questioning if he/she is the real person on this account. You need to seriously revamp your check cashing policy as I have not finished with this and plan on taking this to the next level. Facebook is a powerful tool and in today's economy, no one can afford to have customer satisifaction decline in today's market. Please contact me in regards to this issue. Yesterday,Nov.24th I sent my daughter and daughter-in-law( who was here to visit for Thanksgiving dinner) to get milk,bread,ect..The store was suspose to be open until 3p.m.AS they were walking to the door a young girl locks the door right at Michelle. .Michelle said to her "it's not three o,clock yet.She opens the door, gives her a hateful look and hits Cairy in the shoulder with the door! They get the items and on the way out saw a manager and told him what happened.He smiled and said he would take care of it.But they didn't fell by the way he said it he meant it.When they went in it was 2;45 and when they got in the car it was just 2;59.I shop there at least 3 times weekly but not anymore.It was the Grottoes ,Va. store.I know it was THanksgiving but to treat people this way was so wrong.
My fiance was recently in a food Lion in Hampton Va. He is a fireman and was working at the time. He went to check out where the cashier asked him debit or credit? He said whichever, and when the machine asked for his pin number he put it in. The cashier then got an attitude and said UHHH I PUT CREDIT NOW YOU HAVE TO SWIPE THE CARD AGAIN. As he was swiping his card again she turned to her coworker and "wispered", and this is who we count on the save our lives. I have never in my life felt so disrespected. I am a nurse and work nights, so on average we are together 2 nights a week. How dare she degrade him like this when she has NO idea what sacrifes he makes daily for people like her. We have 2 children, that have to say goodbye to their dad in the morning and not see him until the next morning. And just for the record, she should be damn glad there are people in this world willing to risk everything for people not even decent enough to keep their mouths shut. I will NEVER shop in another food lion and I will make sure that everyone I know hears about this.
here we go again now every were you look in food lion you see happy holidays? oh no the did not!!! you know it should say merry christmas and they need to get it together before this goes viral like it did to wall mart last year and now you see merry christmas at wall mart,change it food lion or expect to loose customers in droves.
After having worked for Food Lion in the past I must say, they have gone way down hill. It has always been a difficult company to work for. They do put unrealistic demands on their employees and yes the managers do have their "favorites". I have seen very good senior employees lose their jobs over simple mistakes or stupid reasons. Was this due to their seniority, most likely. The company will not have to pay their retirement if they get rid of them. When I worked for them I was fortunate, I under a good department manager and then was moved over to dairy. Unfortunately, another Manager thought he had the authority to fire me after I challenged him over his treatment of another departments product. He verbally accosted me and got away with it. I had left after the incident because I was so shaken. Turns out he is friends with a DM. Explains why he was aloud to stay. Since then, Food Lion stores and their management have gotten away with the same behavior. They do have some good managers and stores, you just have to find them. I would say, do not work for them, do not shop with them and never assume you will receive good customer service. The employees just do not care anymore.
In the last two years I've basically stoped shopping at Food Lion! The reason SERVICE, prices, quality of meat and produce. Two weeks ago against my better judgement I went to the Food Lion in the Tramway area in Sanford, NC. I needed some items to take to a friends home her husband had passed away that morning. I'd also purchased a package of liver pudding that was marked down so I knew I had to go home first and put the liver pudding in my refrigerator. (I live about 5 minutes from the store) When I got to my car to put my items in the car I found my chicken upside down and the hot broth poured out in the bag on everything else in the bag. A large package of cups was crushed by the two 2 liter drinks that were in the same bag. The items that I'd purchased had been tossed in bags with NO thought! Can goods, bread, styrofoam cups, plates, chicken from the deli, all just tossed in bags. The napkins found wet from the broth from the chicken! The following day my husband opened the liver pudding to make a sandwich and the liver pudding made him sick when opened the wrapper!! We could not even toss it in the trash!! Tonight we should have known better but we went in that store again!! The service is the WORST in Sanford!! I went to the customer service desk and the person there walked off! They never asked what I needed or said I'll be right back, nothing they just walked off!! I will shop at Walmart in the future!!! When anyone makes a statement around me about Walmart putting other stores out of business I'll tell them to shop at the FL in Tramway and they'll change their mind. Walmart has fresh produce, fresh meats, and polite cashers!
This company is absolutely ridiculous. I have worked for them for nearly a decade and I could ramble on and on about how poor of a job they do. They do not train their managers properly AT ALL! They just throw them in the position with the poorest excuse for a pay raise ever. They cut hours and expect you do to the job of 4 people with less than the pay you deserve in the first place. The stupidest thing is that they wait until the end of the year (back to school, holiday season, AKA the busiest time for a supermarket) to cut hours. And if you need time off as a manager you can just forget it, especially if you're not a salaried manager. You close every weekend and never get to see your family. And then when you tell them you'd like to step down because you want to see more of your family and you're not getting paid enough, they TAKE money from you when you're not even close to being maxed out for your position. Getting a job at this company was the worst idea ever. They don't care about their customers or their employees, all they care about is money. So next time ya'll customers think about giving an employee a hard time about something they have no control over, just remember that they are just as angry and unappreciated as you are.
I go to the Foodlion in Pembroke, North Carolina ocassionaly, I went there on Tuesday, Sept. 27,2011, I find it ironic that the sales associates are not friendly to me (an African Amer.) I have notice, how friendly they are to their kind (native am.) but not to me. This is the second time this has happen, when I say unfriendly, I have noticed they do not speak, yesterday, when it was my time to place my food on the counter, she deliberatly did not speak, nor did she tell me thankyou when I paid for my purchase, she did ask me if I had a food lion card. I felt the need to bring this to your attention, I trust I am the only AA that is treated as such.
Hey I want someone to really read this Im an employee at Foodlion and I started in 2005 and left in 2009 and I went to School And then in 2010 I started Working for Walmart And I was the Grocery Manager and i came back to Foodlion now. What I want to get at is Prices,Customer Service,Checkout Lines, And Appreciation To Employees. My thing is I noticed Our prices are getting very high I talked with customers at my store and they tell me they dont but as much no more Because of it and our sales are still higher than the Original prices of Walmart and other competitors not all of our sales but 65% of them. prices attract customers we started this grocery chain and its time for us to get it back If Walmart sells Ocean Spray juice for $2.47 regular Price why is ours $3.27 When it's on sale it's 2 for $4 but if we sell ours at regular price for $2.47 well get those customers back even if Walmart Matches Prices It will still draw our customers back We can get our sales up in our stores and Start hiring our Help and Give our employees hours again. Me and My wife use to shop at foodlion all the time for all of our groceries but we tired Walmart one day and we had 2 carts full Comparied to the 1 at foodlion and we spent less money I would love to start shoping for all my Food at Foodlion but we half to get Our customers back we lower 6000 prices on items but we raise others 10 cents 20 Cents sometime 60 cents we half to get this back so we can get our Customers happy again. and we Need to get our Cashiers trained better and our checkout lines moving faster it's time to stand up and do something I love my job at Foodlion and My store is great but the pay hurts when you have a family and bills to pay I dont want to be rich I wana just be able to go see a movie with my kids or but my wife flowers sometime ya know store#0470 is great and I love the Management team. The Food Lion on New Hope Road in Goldsboro, NC is really a day care. If you work there you have to baby sit grown people in management roles, put up with gossip and deal with people worried about getting even. Why can't everyone just do their jobs and let everyone else do the same?

I love our Food Lion but they discontinued the PHILADELPHIA Ready-To-Eat Cheesecake Filling by Kraft. Please bring it back to Southport and Oak Island, NC. Thanks, Jean
My husband loves Food Lion Brand now "FreshEssentials" Plain fat free yogurt. Chances are they don't have any, why, because the warehouse is out, or now because they are changing over to the new brand name, in fact store manager told me (Virginia Beach) they were out of Food Lion sugar for over a month! Some merchandising!!
Food lion in Roanoke,VA - Nine out of ten times that we go grocery shopping there we have to pack our own groceries, not right. For the sole fact that someone from headquarters decided the store needed to be remodeled is beyond me causing prices to go up and totally changing the store around so that you can't find anything which I realize is a sales tactic which in turn keeps us in the store longer. Your sales tatics don't work on me it just aggravates me. So my suggestion is if we are going to have to pack our own groceries that you cut the prices. Someone needs to look into this.
