Due to comments made by Vice President and General Counsel Robert Gordon, I will no longer shop Safeway when I have the opportunity. If Safeway ever opens a store in my area, I will not be shopping there. I am a Republican and I find insulting the President anything but funny. I am tired of the need of folks to share their ignorance with the public nauseating and his non-apology for having done so disingenuous. When I visit my kids and folks (one and/or the other monthly), I fill their refrigerators. It will not be from your stores. Mr Gordon is a boorish ass, by his own words and "apology". Shame on him for the remarks and never having learnt what an apology entails.
I am astounded and angered by the firing of the Safeway worker for intervening against a man beating a pregnant woman. Talk about the war of women. This kind of ethic needs to coorected yesterday. Think about it. Would you want people to standby if your wife or daughter, pregnant or not is being assaulted? Until and unless this is corrected I will never set foot in a Safeway store again. ALL OF THE SAFEWAY BRAND CHIPS AND CHEETOS ARE DELICIOUS!!!! GREAT JOB SAFEWAY NOT ONLY FOR THE DESIGN OF THE BAG BUT FOR THE TASTE OF THE PRODUCT!!
China - What would you do if you were in a grocery store, you turned into an aisle, and you saw a man beating his pregnant girlfriend? Would you run for help? How long would that take? Would it be too late by the time security arrived? Ryan Young worked at the meat counter of a Safeway supermarket. Reports say that when Ryan saw a customer push and kick his pregnant girlfriend last month, Ryan stepped in to stop the beating. According to the press, Ryan's actions earned him praise from his local police chief, but not from his employer. Instead of treating Ryan like a hero, Safeway claimed Ryan should have called security and suspended him without pay while it investigates the "altercation." Pending the results of that investigation, Ryan could be fired for good. Doug Castro is a security guard who shops at the Safeway where Ryan works, and he believes Ryan did the right thing by intervening. That's why Doug started a petition on Change.org asking Safeway to lift Ryan’s suspension and give him backpay for the income he lost during his involuntary time away from work. Click here to sign Doug's petition. Ryan says one reason he felt so compelled to intervene is that he's an expectant dad himself -- his wife is 5 months pregnant. "We're expecting a child," Ryan says. "I've been suspended for just about a month now without pay for doing something I feel was right, that police said was right." Indeed, local Police Chief Ron Langford told reporters, "In my mind, in this case Ryan did the right thing." The police have already turned over security footage of the incident to prosecutors so that the man who beat his girlfriend can be charged, yet Ryan has been suspended for almost a month with no income. Doug believes that if thousands of people sign his petition, Safeway will bow to public pressure and put Ryan back on the job.

I was in my local Safeway store in Pinetop arizona shop here every week several times a week. What is going on the store manager(dave something) was talking very badly about a employee Said he had more family problems than any one he(cuss word) ever knew Laughing about getting rid of him.this is very poor exsample of a store manager.i do not neeed drama when i go shopping.then i go back to the meat section well i have alway brought my meat at safeway no where else.meat that was on add special was not out people are talking about a guy that was getting a bad deal said he had a 3 year old born with a heart defect.Sounded to me like Safeway doesn't like sick children wont keep employees that have special needs children!i am outraged!i just left my basket and walked out wont go back either went home called family and friends they wont go back either.Never supported another big chain store coming to the mountain but maybe its time. Will let city council know about this and the women of the mountain club and my church which is the biggest church on the mountain. I suggest families go shop at Eddys country store or drive the few miles to Holbrook to Bashas.thought Safeway was managed alot better than this!!
The produce guy at the store in susanville calif.uses the old veggies to bait wild animals and slay them. wheres peeta when you need them.
I have just seen the news where a butcher working for Safeway was suspended for not following "policy". The young man rescued a pregnant woman from her boyfriends verbal and physical abuse in public at Safeway. The police stated that he is a hero for saving the young woman AND had he not done so the young woman would probably have been injured far worse than she was. Safeway's policy that an unnamed Safeway manager stated was not formally documentated but was verbally passed along to their employees, was to contact either store security or the store manager to take care of "altercations". While that is generally policy with most companies, sometimes time is of the essence in aiding someone in need. I am an Operations Chief for a fire dept. so I know what the importance of responding quickly can mean. I have called Safeway corporate offices and told the young woman that answered, that my family will no longer be customers of Safeway because of the suspension without pay as well as possibly losing his job. His wife is pregnant so he needs the job, as any of us do to take care of our families. It could have been my wife, daughter, or friend that this happened too. I appreciate that safety is not high on Safeway's list.
I am very concerned as to why you don't answer apps. when they are sent? I am a cocerned person, I worked for Turkey many years ago I was asst. Mgr. at Briar Crest Hershey, also at Myerstown. I am writing this because I thought TH was an honest place to work. I have a son that put close to 14 yrs. in your stores. He never missed work. He came to work when he was sick. His last store was Harrisburg. By the way I forgot he was ( MANAGER ). He got a chance for more money, he made a bad move. He realizes it now. The part that bothers me is no one will give him a reason for not takeing him back. Be honest people what is the problem. I don't feel you people appreciate a good employee. I think everyone has at one time made a mistake. He has paid for his mistake. Why won't you give him his job back, which by the way he was well liked & brought business to the company.
I went to the new (2 years) Safeway in Damascus, Maryland a couple of days ago and was impressed with its size and beauty. Unfortunately, Safeway (as a group) seems to have stopped carrying the Hershey's Special Dark Sugar Free candy upon which I, as a potential diabetic and sugar addict, depend upon for relief from an otherwise boring diet. Also, although Giant has had Skillet Crisp Tilapia for months (while my usual Safeway in Olney, Maryland was being rebuilt), neither the Safeway in Olney or in Damascus is carrying this delicious product. When I went to checkout with my few items, there was NO express lane open, but the two or three regular lanes had a number of people with large loads waiting in them. Some nice people let me go ahead of them. Then I decided I wanted to see Customer Service about getting the foods I like but no one was there. So, I asked a checkout clerk who called someone to come to Customer Service. He did and he wrote my info down on a tiny scrap of paper, but he seemed anxious to get back to whatever else he was doing. When I had unloaded my little cart into the car, I went to put the cart in the return station and saw that there were a couple of huge bags of trash stuffed in there, with trash all over the ground. ... My mother worked for Safeway for 25 years and I've always been proud to shop there. I can't imagine what is wrong with the Damascus, Maryland store, especially since it is such a nice store. What will it look like in another year? What would it be like if I had to do a major shopping trip. Giant does seem to be doing better about stocking products that people want, and I never in my life thought I would say that.
Bought some ears of white corn at the Safeway store in Fort Mohave, Arizona yesterday and upon opening one of 6, one had a gross green worm embedded in the front!!! Last week got some 1# strawberrys, 2 crates and both bottom halves of them were full of mold!! I took my complaint back to the store this a.m. and told the manager he should pull all that corn out and throw it away as almost all that I saw was not good as I had to go through so much of it to even find my 6 that I bought. I got my money back after he suggested getting more corn or strawberrys till I told him I'm done buying produce at this store! You are lucky I don't turn this over to the USDA!!! I feel I should have been offered more compensation than just my money back and a sorry. I'm done with Safeway forever. You can reach me at fbbrown@hotmail.com

I work for Safeway in Colorado. Safeway sucks! Been working for them (Safeway) 22 years now. When I first started it was great and everyone was treated wonderfully. Now a days it has gone down so far all the company needs to do is flush the toilet! Problem solved. Full timers are soon going to be a thing of the past, as well as the benefits and pension. Prices keep rising, consumer keeps buying higher ups keep getting wealthier...Stop supporting Safeway!! Hopefully the safeway sign will be gone and another Walmart in its place!
Lahaina Hawaii Safeway is the worst managed store on the planet. You can not complain about the service because there is none. If you go to the General Manager, he lies to you about everything that is being done but when you check with customer service corporate, NOTHING has been said or done. Waiting 3 weeks for my money back on a lost safeway card and NOTHING was turned in or accomplished by their staff although the promised me that it was turned in and a new card fortcoming. The sushi is at least 3 days old, dried out looking and tasting. The rotisserie chicken totally void of juices. The floors are filthy and the seafood area reaks of ammonia. The pastry department 1 day to 5 day old products, alot have been frozen and set out later. This is the utmost in disgusting store of any grocery store I have ever visited and I hope that someone reads this, that can actually cause some positive changes for the deserving clients that are paying triple the price of any store in the United States.
My family & I usually shop at Luckys but decided to try to go to Safeway in Union City off of Decoto Road because I knew they had the LARGE size of the Land of the Lakes Butter and plus the ambiance would be nice (with their special lighting etc..)... Boy what a NIGHTMARE!!!! My daughter & I have NEVER been treated so badly in ANY shopping establishment. As we walked around the store we noticed 2 guys following and staring at us the WHOLE TIME, we just thought they were perverted stalkers, and didn't pay attention. When we got to the self check-out, we found that the butter we picked had been tampered-with so we asked the cashier guy if we could get another one and he was very RUDE AND SHORT with us as if we purposely did it. Then when we were having problems with our Safeway Rewards Card, we had to ask the same guy for help and he treated us as if we were a couple of ignorant fools that were bothering him. There was no "may I help you?" or "let me see what I can do to help" or "excuse me, I'll be right back with a new card for you".... he just walked away very irritated and handed me a new card without a word or eye contact. When we were done paying for our items, we asked to speak to a manager and as we are standing there waiting for the manager, we noticed the same 2 guys that were following us earlier and police or security guard close-by all staring at us. We found out that they were LOSS PREVENTION and they THOUGHT we STOLE something. When the asst manager finally showed up, I was SO upset and trembling trying to explain to her the situation and all she could half-heartedly say was "I apologize and what do you want me to do about it?" Then I noticed that the 1 of the 2 guys that was following us around pretending to be customers went upstairs (EMPLOYEES ONLY AREA) and I asked her why her employee was following us around and she smuggly said "I don't know what you are talking about, that guy doesn't work for us" She said "you said a bad word 3 times to me and this conversation is over!!" and walked upstairs. There was only 1 nice female cashier that tried to make things better but the damage had already been done... so I thought. When my daughter & I went out to our car, the same 2 guys followed us!!! I confronted them and asked them what their problem was and they denied everything. We came to this same Safeway a few months earlier and got very BAD service from one of the cashiers and thought it was just a fluke and it couldn't happen again because I was sure Safeway takes pride in good customer service. As it turned out, the LP's, the cashiers and the manager was terrible. We are going to persue contacting the General Manager but if they hired that one gal to be their assistant Store Manager then I don't expect that the GM will be any better. I will NOT be back to any SAFEWAYS anytime soon. I'm sticking with Lucky's.
Today I had not even did any shopping yet and wanted to get cash to do my laundry, it is Sunday and the bank is closed. I use my BofA-VISA there all the time. Safeway always cashed my check before cash. I put my parches on my VISA card. I go to Safeway and the lady refused to cash my check, she said that they store has no history of me at all, or something like that. I am sure there was days that I used a check at the Watt and Arden store, I used to stop there at their delli every day on the way to work to get something to eat. I lived in Carmichael and was born in Sacramento. I lived here my whole life, Don't Safeway want me and my friends business, I don't understand what is going on. All these new people here and they let them cash their checks for what ever. I was a teachers aide, at American River College off and on, and I don't understand, I can tell all my thousands of friends that live here that were not welcome if that is what you all want. I'm really tired I just road my bike to the store that is a mile, and a half away, my blood pressure was up to I bet 177 over 100. I only went there because they had cashed my check there before. I've got high blood pressure any way it wasn't all the bike ride. She would not cash the check for me so I didn't by any thing there at all I try to find a wal mart store down town I guess, can you all ask Wal Mart to move Down Town Sacramento if you all don't want to cater to us. Dad worked for the Federal Government for 35 years. There was at lest a few project that dad was one of the 12 folks in charge of the heavy shipment, for the Vietnam police actions. He was like an interpreter for normal workers. I guess you all forgot all your own clients. why should I buy things there, if the store will not cash my check, are not going to cash my check when that is the only reason I went there today. but the lady tryed to get me to use my check at the register, but I had bought form Safeway for years with, cash, check and VISA what gives. that is not nice, give me a store that is nice.
Wanted to write to Safeway Corp. but dont know how to reach them. Just wanted to say, that I loved your fold & close top plleated sandwich bags. About l6 or 17 years ago, I was shopping in a Randall's store with my husband. There was a rack of sandwich bages. The boxes were 300 count. They were on sale 2 for something. Not very much. I bought 2 boxes. They had 300 clear plastic bags in each. We really couldnt afford them, but my husband said "oh well, go ahead". I just wanted you to know that I have about 10 bags left. I have used them for what-ever, all through the years. Now, I cant find any bags without zippers. I love the plain old-fashion bags without zippers. So thank-you, Safeway, Inc.
The Engleside Safeway in Alexandria, VA (store #1283, I think) has gone downhill in the past two years. The store is never fully stocked and this includes most departments but especially the meat and produce department. While I understand that there are times when the products are being heavily shoppped due to a busy day, I also find that even first thing in the morning, there are "holes" in the meat dept. on mainly the things that are on sale. It's not that you are out of the product because I have gone to the manager who will tell me that the meat man is on break. Now why would someone take a break BEFORE filling in the holes? I also notice that the store employees shout to one another. You would be appalled if you witnessed how many of them do so and the what they are talking about for the customers who are in their vicinity can hear. I also note that there are many times that while doing my shopping, I see two and sometimes three employees engaged in conversation rather than working, which I am sure they are not being paid to have "social" time. Eddie is a long time employee and I have sent a complaint on him before as he is rude, slow and for some reason, always on the express line and there is not one thing express about his performance. I will go to a longer line even when I have the limit of items to use the express checkout just to avoid him as that is how much the experience is disturbing if going through his line. He is also notorious for talking more so than working and as much as I notice this, I know the store level management and his co-workers have to be aware too. This probably has a "domino" effect as when these other employees see how he continues to keep his job when he really is not a bit productive, they could get disgruntled or just stoop to his level. I have stopped going to this store for the most part unless I need to just pick up a few things and it is the closest one to my home. I made the mistake of stopping in there yesterday, Saturday, March 24th, and there was not any push carts in the front of the store for customers to use. I saw the manager near the customer service desk, Victor, and I made him aware of this. To my surprise, his reply that he knew that. I then said, "why aren't you getting someone to handle this problem then?" He said there weren't any as they were all being used. (Just to add, this was the second time in the past three weeks that I went there and was unable to get a cart as there were none in sight) Anyway, I picked up my few things after waiting for someone to come out of the store so that I could use the cart they would no longer need, (a customer shouldn't have to do this and I almost did leave), and when I was leaving, yes, there were not any carts in the carousel that is closest to the store, however, the carousel that was a little further up in the parking lot, was LOADED with them!! Now, either Victor has a problem with knowing that the smooth operation of a store is the manager's responsibility and he needs to be able to delegate to his employees what to do or he is just as lazy as they are and does not really care about the company and how important it is to put the customers needs first. I do hope that you can take actions to help this store as they are not representing your company in a positive way and this store needs to be dealt on many aspects. Working first and foremost, as that why it is called a JOB, customer service, and cleanliness. Oh and let me not forget the unprofessional shouting to coworkers which isn't about a price check or anything having to do with the store, but most times just about what they saw over the weekend or something totally unrelated to anything about SAFWAY!! This store is going downhill and please start making unexpected visits as there are many people out there that need a job and could replace these workers who need to go and make a more positive impact on your company that has been around for years. Or, maybe it does start here and everyone is becoming alright with the decline in productivity in the workplace??? For now, I do use the newer store up the road at Mt. Vernon Square but I may discontinue shopping at SAFEWAY altogether?? Disgruntled Customer
Today I was at the Arapahoe Road location in Colorado. I found quite a bit of money in the parking lot. It was windy and blowing all over. A Safeway employee came out and helped me grab it. She picked up a $50 bill. She and I turned the money in to customer service. I asked them that if the money isn't claimed will they call me and give it to me and the employee. The manager told me that it will go to "Safeway Lost and Found". So I asked again, "Safeway is going to keep the money if it is not claimed?". Their response was "yes". Um, am I the only one who sees something wrong with this?? It should go to me and the employee. Makes you think twice about doing the right thing...
