On 12/30/2011 at approximately 1000 hours, I went to the Safeway located on 14555 SW Teal Blvd. in Beaverton, OR (store #2631). I went up to the Service Desk and waited there for awhile waiting for service. As I waited at the counter associates passed by me and didn't even offer any assistance- like I was invisible. I then walked over to the Self Checkout Stands and asked Head Clerk Eric Lopez if he can help. As soon as I began to ask he very rudely interrupted me and yelled for me to wait in front of customers. This was very embarrassing and unprofessional. He then went to the Service Desk and very rudely asked what I wanted. I wanted to put money on my Western Union prepaid card. He then stated "I don't know how to do that" and resumed to stare at me as if I should leave. I figured the least he can do is call another associate to see if they know how to conduct this transaction. After all I did drive all the way here for this reason. Only after I convinced him that this service is indeed offered here and that I had traveled all this way to come to Safeway, he called for assistance. The process took very long and the entire time I wished I had never came here. I was treated very poorly to the point I had to write a complaint. This is the first complaint I have ever written- the service was very bad. As a customer, I was poorly treated, demeaned, and humiliated. In general I have always shopped at Safeway and take pride in shopping there. I hope that this complaint is addressed with the associate and corrective action is taken to ensure this does not occur again. Thank you for your time..
I am looking for anyone who has had their auto bumper damaged by the curb on the north side of the parking lot at the Safeway in Orinda. Please contact me if you have had ANY damage, even if you did not report it to the store manager. Thanks 2lenoreh@comcast.net
Safeway El Cerrito Beautiful Store but lacks customer service and politeness. Can wait up to 40 minutes to be checked out Expect to be laughed at or dismissed by store managers (who rather stop to order a coffee than help customers) Pharmacist who lack any motivation to care, smile, give advice, help find medication unsafe parking lot with car break-ins WIC customers are treated by disrespect by store managers.
Safeway is the worst store I have ever shopped!!!!!!!!!!! i have gone there and got meat and got sick because they were not properly packaging and refigerating it so got poisoned. i WOULD NOT EVEN GIVE THEM ONE LOUSY STAR BUT DON'T EVEN HAVE THAT OPTION!!!!!!!! I get two cards for $25.00 each and go to a store in Seattle WA. I try to use the cards and their machines are not processing the cards correctly. Now I am being forced to return to that store to get my money back on the cards or whatever crap they want to further abuse a cusstomer. Why are these stores still in business!!!!!!!!!!??????????? These are the worst places anyone to shop an they are so expensive, hell of alot more than QFC and Fred Meyers. I get a bottle of Coke at QFC for 1.99 and Safeway charges 2.99 WHAT GIVES ???????????????????????? THEY ARE THE SAME PRODUCT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This store is greedy SOBs.DO NOT SHOP THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ALSO THEIR EMPLOYEES ARE CRAP, DISRESPECTFUL, RUDE AND SHOULD BE OUT ON THE STREETS TO GET THE EXPERIENCE OF BEING HOMELESS OR ANYTHING BUT RICH.
I just heard a story about a close family member that makes my stomach turn. My family has been shopping at Safeway stores for over 30 years. So, it was the obivious choice when Christmas dinner was planned with our large family. She spent 2 hours shopping for Christmas dinner and her check was denied because she didn't have a long enough history with Safeway. She was humilated by the manager and cashier who was laughing with another customer about the situation. The checking account she was using had 4 times the amount needed to pay for the groceries, yet she had no choice but to leave the store. This is outrageous!! I can not believe this, I can not feel comfortable buying from Safeway in the future. Especially, if she doesn't receive an apology from the corporate manager. The local manager told her she didn't have a long enough relationship with safeway to spend that much using a check. You mean 30 years is not enough!! I know with the technology these days, they can verify the check would clear the bank. Merry Christmas Safeway :(
My Safeway card is 650 814 1000. I live in Woodside, California. I normally go to Safeway on Sharon Height, Stanford, because I find that Safeway more elegant and with a better display for kind of food I like to buy and for your nice home made daily soups. Today Friday at 5pm I had an unpleasant experience with the handy man who works in the store moving boxes or to fill grocery bags at the cashier desk. I staning and was looking at the range of soups that normally Safeway at this location has and could not fine with little cups for tasting (normally there are so plenty there and it is easier for customers to know what to buy). This evening I could not find any little cups available at the soup counter. I asked someone in the store if I could taste the soup I wanted to buy. The person who worked there, kindly told me if I wanted to taste the soup I wanted to buy to put a little amount in a small size cup. I didn't want to do that but I went ahead and tasted the soup I wanted. While I was testing the handy man who was putting empty boxes in a cart saw me and without any class or respect told me, in front of my friends, if I had filled. I looked at him and didn't say a word. When my friends finished shopping I went in the store and approched the little man, who was now helping a cash desk filling the bag with a grocery for a customer. I told him that was not his job to tell me off but if he had anything to say to contact the manager. I reported this incident to, I believe to a blon tall man, who told me of not paying attention to what the handy man told me. I like to report this incident because I felt embarassed and attacked by someone in the store that was not competent and in the position to offend and approch in rude manner a customer. The man I am talkingn about was short with glasses and looked Mexican. Thank you

the safeway stores in phoenix arizona are no better. the staff from management down are rude people. i won't shop at their stroes anymore.. i don't go to the store to buy attitudes i go to buy groceries., and safeway stores had a bad habit of making my shopping experience leave a bad taste in my mouth if you know what i mean. i am a christian woman but they can make me swear.SHAME ON SAFEWAY FOR HAVING THIS KIND OF EMPLOYEES. to many people without jobs would love a job serving the people of their community. give them a chance. safeway should let go of the employees they get complaints on and hire someone that would appreciate a job.
We have shopped at Safeway all our lives. My in-laws are 93 and 88 yrs. old and homebound. We live 4 hours away. We reserved a Turkey Dinner $39.00. by phone using the number the paper supplied a few days before Thanksgiving to be picked up at the Vallejo Glen Cove store. I also called the store and requested some prepared yams and they made a note of it. We got there before our pick up time so that we could purchase my in-laws bi weekly supply of groceries. When we went up to the Deli to pick up the dinner the lady said they had already sold out. They found our name on their list. The lady said they made a mistake and were selling to anyone that wanted one. They did have one left they said but it was not offered to us. We asked for the manager and he came, I believe his name was David. He said there was nothing he could do. I said have you called other stores to see if they have any? Another lady said someone is doing that. The manager didn't seem to have a clue as to what to do other than give us attitude. We did not yell but we were upset. I asked him what are we supposed to feed our family and his answer was "well I like to be home with my family for Thanksgiving too." Just then a lady walked up and asked him where the kleenex were and he walked away. We left............without our loaded cart or purchasing anything. And we won't set foot in that store again! We thought he could have offered something for the trouble we were going through. We did our part by ordering early. After we left I called Raley's in a close by town and they said they had plenty but for $20. more.
Hello, I was at the safeway in pueblo co sunday before thanksgiving, this is the third time I asked the butcher an older woman whom is fairly new I have been shopping here for 20 years I asked her to cut my ham she replied the machine was out so I asked her if she had knives, she replied we do not use them, then I told her you mean to tell me you are a butcher and nothing is working she replied yes in a very rude way I spend 100 dollars a week at your store, I know the checkers by name and your store has went through many managers in this period, I will not shop here anymore, I have given this store many chances, your staff is rude and there is a few stores in the area I will shop at now, I also bought yams and there is rust on the bottom of the can I tried to buy cauliflower it was brown and the produce person wanted me to buy this rotten stuff, the grapes were also brown, king soopers always has fresh meat and produce, you have just lost a longtime customer!!!1
Sadly the Safeway management made the calculation that if they do nothing, the outrage will subside and go away, and they appear to be right. They fell way short of my former opinion and expectations for the organization. I understand that these things happen. Humans make mistakes, even managers. What I find most troubling about this incident is the apparent lack of any self awarenss on the part of Safeway. Only a week later, after considerable national outrage, did anyone from the company go to the trouble of contacting the woman (who was vomiting and in the kind of distress that only parents of small children can truly comprehend). The man from Safeway apologized. Then they dropped the crimminal charges. Presumably they also withdrew the one year prohibition on shopping at Safeway. (I seriously doubt that the company has to worry about ever seeing them again.) I try to undersand the Safeway response to this incident. It strikes me as grotesque. It drips with the veneer, disdain and arrogant disregard so typical of large corporations these days. They are hideously out of touch with the tribulations that their staff inflicted, and they seem to like it that way. I am not going to presume to tell Safeway what to do, but here is what I am doing. I am not shopping at their stores until the find a better response. And I will encourage others to do the same.
I will never again shop at your store the way your manager handled the situation on having someone arrested when they paid $50 on groceries, forgot a five dollar sandwich wrapper and you have them arrested.AND THEY HAD A TWO YEAR OLD TAKEN AWAY BY CPS!!!! ARE YOU $%&#&# CRAZY AND SICK? THAT MANAGER NEEDS TO BE FIRED
The next time a pregnant wife and mother who is also a military veteran eats a store sandwich while shopping, please send the bill to me and I will pay it. Under no circumstances have her and her husband arrested and their child turned over to protective services. I strongly suggest that you train your employees in common sense. Everytime I hear "Safeway", I will think of this unexcusable incident!
I add my voice to the outrage over this event involving the couple who were arrested and had their child taken away for an HONEST oversight; considering they PAID for their groceries!! The most maddening portion of the whole story is Safeway's refusal to let the couple pay for the sandwiches. IF that is Safeway's policy then SHAME on you Safeway!! GET your act together and get a better policy. I am so outraged at learning of this event I too will do my shopping elsewhere. I have plenty of other options that actually offer better prices anyhow. Sure I'll drive a little further in some cases, but that's a small price to pay to avoid supporting a company that is so inhumane and rigid in policy!
After being a Safeway shopper for the last 20+ years I have decided to boycott their stores until they issue a national published apology to the family in Hawaii that was arrested and had their 2 year old child taken away over forgetting to pay for two sandwiches eaten while shopping. This couple had just moved there, had gotten lost while trying to find a grocery store and ended up at Safeway. To sum it up they were very hungry and while shopping ate two sandwiches then bought $50 worth of food. They saved the wrappers to pay for at the register and somehow forgot to ring them up. Security detained them and called the police who arrested both parents and had CPS take away their 2 year old. They offered to pay the Store Manager for the sandwiches but he would not take payment. SAFEWAY - this is a travesty of justice. This store manager and security should be relieved of their jobs and a quick apology should be issued in public to the couple. If you value your customers like me that do all their grocery shopping at your establishments you will listen and correct this mistake begging them for forgiveness. That's what it will take for me to forgive you.
To the owner of Safeway Stores: I could not believe what I was reading! A pregnant woman in her 30Th week got arrested for shoplifting in your Honolulu Store--because she and her husband were weary--trying to find a place to buy groceries in a place they decided to move to in good Faith--to build their family dreams together--no doubt--in what many people think is paradise on earth--Hawaii--and they get off of a bus--no less and eat a sandwich with good intentions on paying for them, but forgot-but bought $50.00 worth of groceries in your store. Then they get humiliated--and arrested for shoplifting--no compassion that they've just moved to Hawaii--and that this mother is Pregnant! Maybe she desperately needed nourishment while shopping as she was so tired by the time they made it to Safeway. Oh my dear! Then they take their little girl, Zaphia, into child protective services! The child must have been traumatized without her parents! Then the get arrested, Nicole and Marcin Leszczynski, and after getting out--they are driven back to Safeway to pick up their $50.00 worth of groceries--only to walk home after midnight!! I pray God forgives you, because He has the power to put you out of business for good--and each of your loved ones and family members--because there is a law--it is called, Sowing and Reaping!! What you Sow, you Reap! Not only should you drop all charges against this couple--you ought to buy them a new car--and a new home in Hawaii--and give a personal apology in front of the Media, so everyone knows you are truly sorry to do this to this couple and give them free groceries for a year! Also, you should fire everyone who had any part in trying to harm this family. They should have known better! Because they can sue you for Emotional Trauma!! They have been victimized by Safeway! Picture yourself dreaming of moving to Hawaii!! And that actually your dreams become true!! Wow!! Now, you just move their--and you are needing some food. Your wife is pregnant--you have a baby who needs to eat and a baby in a tummy who needs nutrition. You get on a bus--finally, you find a Safeway--was that a SAFE-----WAY.......that day---for you? Think about it? Your hungry--you open a sandwich--you eat it in good faith of paying for it. You purchase your groceries but forget to put the wrapper up to be scanned? For that mistake--you get treated---indescribably--like a true criminal--even though you spent $50.00 on groceries!! Your baby is suddenly taken away from you cruelly and mercilessly, and then you have to be hand-cuffed and arrested while everyone stares at you for mistakenly not paying for a sandwich. When I was a little girl, living in California--I had a Dream! I dreampt of visiting Samoa. When I was 19 yrs old, I spent all the money I had on a plane ticket to Samoa to visit my best friend who was pregnant--in Samoa! Upon leaving, I'll never forget, one of the relatives climbed a tree and picked flowers for me! They sewed it together and put it around my neck. I was so grateful that they would do that for me. They made my experience a joy! The flowers smelled so beautiful--the smell of them lasted all the way home back to California. I remember too--my lay-over at the airport in Hawaii. It was hot! And humid. I just got to walk outside a little bit around the airport until I was ready to transfer planes for my trip to Samoa--so I can imagine how hot it could have been on that bus trip--for that family who was treated so harshly by Safeway in Honolulu! I thought Hawaii always said, "Aloha", when someone came to Hawaii? And I always pictured Hawaiians wearing beautiful smiles welcoming people who came to visit them with a lei of flowers and warmth and love in their hearts? But this couple was not is a SAFE WAY--that DAY--at Safeway, in Honolulu!! I ask you to do everything in your power to make this right for this couple!! Also, God loves us all and I pray that this couple will forgive you and that you too will come to know and accept His love and free gift of Salvation--for Jesus said, "I am the WAY--the Truth and the Life, and no man can come to the Father but by Me!" When I am with Jesus, I know I am in a SAFE---WAY!!
The pregnant mother, $5.00, ex-military husband, baby in child welfare services for 18 hours story was the one that pushed me to say goodbye to Safeway -
I travel quite a bit and often frequent Safeway stores. After reading the report on the pregnant woman who was arrested and had her child taken away due to Safeway refusing to let the woman pay for two sandwiches, I can honestly say that I will NEVER EVER set foot in a Safeway store again. I will frequent Albertsons, or any other store in whatever town I am in rather that patronize a Safeway. How humiliating and if that's how customers are treated, then so be it. And if the Management in that store is still in place, then shame on Safeway.
After reading the article regarding that family in Honolulu that was arrested for forgetting to pay for $5.00 sandwiches when they paid for the other $50.00 in groceries they bought. After hearing that your managers wouldn't let them apologize and pay for the sandwiches, that they were going to be cuffed and taken to the station for a $5.00 mistake. After hearing that child services came in and took their daughter away for 18 hours when she's only 2 and has never been separated from her parents. After reading that the mother was pregnant and a former Air Force staff sergeant who deserves our respect and compassion. After hearing that your company is "still contemplating" whether or not to press charges. After reading all of this I can assure you, absolutely guarantee to you, that I will NEVER, EVER be shopping in a Safeway or any other store that may be affiliated with you. I hope it was worth it to the company to have such an ignorant, zero-tolerance policy that leaves no room for common sense.
I just got home from shopping at the Riverton,Wy. Safeway...it just never seizes to amaze me at the horrid "customer service" they provide. It is a shame that having limited groceries stores to go to, you have the advantage of treating us all like piles of dirt! This is the fourth incident I have experienced in less that 6 weeks! We all have to bend over and take it when it comes to shopping at this store. First of all, cashiers take forever to get you through the register so in the meantime, it is less frustrating for me to wait if I open up a magazine and decide if the articles are interesting enough for me to purchase it. Seven out of ten times, I will purchase a magazine since I get caught up in the articles. As I took one from the rack, I dropped an insert inside the magazine as the conveyor was moving. It reached the cashier before I could grab it and place it back. She seemed totally pissed when she took it and crumbled it in her hands and threw it in a wastebasket by her. It was then our turn to get rung up when she says to my boyfriend, "good afternoon SIR, how are YOU today?" After his response I asked, Good afternoon MA'AM, how are you today? Because it doesn't seem you are doing too well! The manager at the store is no better! I have purchased Western Unions through him after wating for 40 minutes, Money Order for $190 to which he sarcastically asked if I wanted a money order for one dollar and ninety cents! This same cashier as we waited in the customer service line once almost bit off an older female's head when she asked if there was anyone who could help us at the counter...to which she responded...GET BACK IN LINE AND JUST WAIT! I have had it with this Safeway! I am appauled by the way people are treated. I am not from this area but am truly shocked at the "customer service" Safeway employees provide.....NONE! This cashier needs to retire already! She is old and grumpy and she needs to get the hell out of that store before she does much more damage!
