281 Reviews For Safeway Headquarters & Corporate Office
On Sunday, October 24, 2010 my son in law, an African American (we are Caucasion), was shopping in the Waugh Chapel Safeway, on Route 3 of Crofton/Odenton, Maryland. He put the receipt into his pocket for two very large bottles of juice/punch. As he was walking in the parking lot, one of the managers, a stocky, older male stopped him and "directed" him to return to the store. In the twelve years, that my daughter and he have shopped there, while speaking to a great many of the employees, nothing like this had ever occured and he was naturally very upset and embarrassed for this "black profiling." He was wearing casual clothes to his usual suit, tie and overcoat. He and my daughter are both professionals in the administrative areas of their school systems -- he from Baltimore City Schools, she from Prince George's County Schools. Their names are Lawrence and Megan K. Dorr- Ashworth.
He presented his receipt and the cashier/checker verified what he had PURCHASED, not stolen. The manager apologized but, I, for one is not accepting it. Inasmuch as I have two minority sons in law, I am very familiar and know first hand of the slights that they receive and how they react to them -- horribly!
Now, for the reason of this email -- I and the rest of my family is turning in our Safeway cards to never shop at any of your stores, ever again. I am 72 years old and I have shopped there for more years than I care to remember.
