I have been a PETCO customer for over three years and have patronized PETCO Annapolis for Grooming Services and to purchase food and supplies for my dog. On Monday May 9th my dog, Lexie had a grooming appointment at PETCO Annapolis. She was dropped off at 12 noon and I picked her up around 4:45pm. When I returned home I noticed a flea that was embedded in her skin. When I called the store I asked to speak with the manager, I spoke with the store manager- Gary. When I described what happened he immediately told me that I am “lying” and there is no way possible my dog could’ve gotten a flea/tick from his store. I told him that I have been a customer of his store for about three years and since that time I have had no complaints whatsoever with the grooming services, it’s just that I have never seen a flea/tick on my dog when she returned from grooming. Before my dog was groomed she was given a single dosage of Frontline two weeks ago. He told me that I need to understand how Frontline works and that my dog was probably flea infested before she came to the store. I asked him if anything could be done to rectify the problem and he said no. He informed me that I couldn’t get a refund because the service was already rendered. At that time I asked if I could speak to another manager and he gave me the phone number to PETCO Customer service. I asked for the district manager name and address and he told me that I am not authorized to receive that information. When I asked him for his name and told me it was Gary, when I asked for his last name he told me that “he would never give me that information” and promptly hung up the phone. I didn’t call that number but instead contacted the corporate office to file a complaint. I am sorry to say that I will not patronize any PETCO stores nor utilize their grooming services. I am amazed and disappointed at the blatant disrespect I received when speaking to the Petco store manager.

Petco Stockholders should be made aware of what a the disaster this company is and that it is heading "down the tubes". -Incompetent, often disrespectful and vulgar, management at both the store and corporate levels -Inhumane treatment of animals (many die in the store and soon after purchase) -Customer "Service" personnel (phone) speak unintelligible English. -" " " often cannot understand simple clearly spoken English -" " " cannot figure out how to handle "unusual" (non-scripted) problems/questions -Online "account" was inaccessible with order number My most recent (and last) Petco story: I placed a large online order with free shipping. I only ordered a dog kennel and a few other items from this company because of the free shipping for the heavier items. I tried to access my Petco account online using my order number, etc. (as per the email I received from Petco) to see the delivery dates. I tried numerous times, but could NEVER gain access. I then called Petco Customer "Service" to ask how to login online. They had no idea. They then said that they would look up the two delivery dates. It took quite awhile and many times on hold for the person to finally tell me the two dates. The customer service woman had a difficult time understanding what I said, even though I tried to speak in slow, clear, grammatically correct English. The items came on time. One dog harness in the order was defective; a piece of nylon webbing was sewn on backwards, making it unusable. I called Petco Customer Service again to ask how to return this one and get a usable one. I truly almost could not understand the woman. She spoke very quickly with a strong Philipino accent. After much delay, many times on hold, she finally said that I shouldn't send back the bad harness, she would refund my money, and that I should reorder the harness. I said that I had received free shipping originally and why should I have to pay for shipping for something that was their mistake. She put me on hold again. She did not understand what I was saying. She kept telling me that she would give me a refund and that I should reorder it (and pay shipping). I asked for a supervisor. She transferred me and I waited on hold for quite a long time again. The supervisor finally came on the line just before I was about to hang up. She spoke better English and after a bit of clarification, she understood what I was asking. She said that I couldn't get the refund, but that she would send me another harness. I'd never asked for a refund...I told her I only wanted a harness to replace the defective one that I had received. She said that she would process it herself and that one would be sent to me without an additional shipping charge. We will see... Also, the music that was playing while I spent most of my time on hold was extremely loud, staticky, and several of the songs were offensive. Just this staticky chaos alone made me want to hang up and scream; maybe that was its actual purpose. Petco will never see anymore of my money. How can this company stay in business? Never again...

I purchased a ferret in the Milford, CT store. First of all, he was flithy!! his nails were so long they curled at the tips, his ears were discusting. He was so dirty, I had to give him 2 baths, trim his nails, use multiple qtips. I blew dry him, he didnt even flinch. Also, the ferret cage they keep them in had "NO" toys, hammock. Just 2 big balls he was sleeping in. Yes, ferrets love to sleep, sleep but when they play... they play hard. They need toys, balls. I did adopt a ferret from the westport store over a year ago, and she is an princess. I rescued her in time. Please give these amazing little friends toys, balls, hammocks too.

Close the Fremont, CA store and do our neighborhood a favor. Rude and unprofessional staff - how Petco found this many people who are terrible is amazing.

The quincy ma store is incredibly rude and unorganized. The general management is disrespectful. I would suggest they fire all those associates and have more worthy professionals apply. I plan to file an official complaint with the better business bureau.

I'm surprised by other people comments. I bought a corn snake from petco as well as everything needed for him (cage, heater, bedding, water bowl, frozen mice, etc.) and everything worked perfectly. When I went into the store the guy that helped me didn't know everything, but helped me find all the information I wanted. Also, he was very polite and patient. I didn't have to wait long to get help either. But not all Petcos are the same. Some do suck, but it's not the whole company probably only a few are bad. The one I go to (the one in Everett, Washington) is very clean, organized, good customer service, and so far reliable products.

I took my new puppie to the Petco in Eatontown NJ on March 31, 2011 to be groomed. I dropped him off at 6:30pm and picked him up at 8p. Got him home, walked him and took him inside. Once inside I saw bloody paws all over my off white carpet and then he jumped on my daughters bed and got blood on that. It scared me. I picked him up and saw three out of four paws bleeding with his back paw being the worst. I had to take him to the the emergancy vet. His nails were clipped to low down and the groomer never said a thing. I called on Saturday, the grooming manager said they would reimburse me the money for the vet, then she told me to call corporate which I did. At corporate a customer service rep took the info and said someone will call and I haven't heard from them yet. Then come to find out the groomer cut too much hair off of myy pomaraniens behind. I am very disapointed.

RE: Petco in Clermont, FL I consider myself probably one of Petco's best customers, being that I currently have 9 cats, 1 dog, and 2 ferrets (the ferrets purchased at Petco), and the dog we have groomed frequently. I volunteer for the local animal shelter that has their cats there at Petco's cattery, so needless to say, I am there quite often! The manager there, Sandy, has the personality of a sandspur! He barely speaks to the customers that walk in. I recently returned one can of Wellness canned cat food due to the recent recall alert last month and he issued me a gift card in the amount of $1.77. Approximately a week or two later, I tried to use the card and the asst. mgr couldn't get it to go through, so handed it back to me. So yesterday I attempted to use it again and it still wouldn't go through. The cashier called Sandy over and he attempted to ring it through and said "there's no balance left on this card" and walked away. Now I know it was only $1.77, but the fact that he was so rude is what infuriated me, especially when I spend $50 to $150 each time I shop there!! There is a PetSupermarket approx 1-2 miles down the road and I will start shopping there more often. Unfortunately, they don't yet carry the cat food that I like, but I will push them to!!!

I usually dont shop at Petco ... buy hubby has been going there lately. Back in November, we shelled out about $200 on a guinea pig, cage and splies for my daughter to have the pet she wanted. We since have gone back monthly to get supplies for all of our animals = dogs, hamsters, guinea pig and a rabbit. In January or early February, again our dumb butts spent about $200 bucks on dog supplies - one of which was a $25 leather and stud collar for our pitbull. Now, I am not a good judge at sizing, not even for my own clothes, let alone for a dogs neck... of course, I bought a collar that was way too big for our dog. I tried to return it, but had already thrown out the receipt... was only looking to exchange for the smaller size -- they refused to let me do that just because I didnt have the receipt. All the tags and every thing were still on the collar, I just didnt have the receipt. I saw nothing wrong with exchanging it for the correct size, especially since the sucker cost $25!! They said there was nothing they could do... no exchange, no credit, just out the money ... next time measure the dogs neck... at that point, my hubby grabbed me and stopped me from slapping the stupid out of the staff. I put everything I had ready to purchase back... I will never shop there again, Petsmart only ... thats where we usually go and have been for years, will never try PetCo again, my pets will eat Walmart Food before I step foot in Petco again!! I told the staff that this was very poor customer service, and they smiled and giggled!! We ended up giving the collar away to a complete stranger in the parking lot because we dont know anyone with a large dog, and wanted the collar to be used. All of this occurred at the Petco in the Home Depot Shopping Center off of Spring & California Ave in Signal Hill, CA.

I took my three dogs to the PETCO in Morgan Hill, Calif. this past week. I took with me a coupon for "First Time Bath Customers Only." The coupon listed the price for my large dogs at $29.99, Two of my dogs had been there once before and I was quoted $45 for those dogs. After I had dropped off my dogs I got a call from the Grooming Manager Tina saying that I would be charged an additional $12 for one of my dogs, because it had mats on her chest that they didn't find when they initially checked her. When I picked up my dogs, they said they were charging me more than the coupon's listed price, because they couldn't enter that price on their computer! Finally, one of my dog's beard was a dirty as when I brought him in. When I pointed this out, the groomer got a rag and wiped his beard! When I complain to Tina, the grooming manager, she said it would be a shame to loose us as a customer because the dispute of a dollar. I couldn't agree with her more, on that point! I felt it shameful on them to nickel and dime their customers when they lure you in with a coupon listing a specific deal.

Pet Supplies Plus 1168 Farmington Ave, Bristol, CT 06010 (860) 585-5544 03/15/2011 Absolutely filthy and disgusting living conditions for the birds in this store resulted in a failing surprise Health Inspection by a CT Dept of Agriculture Officer on February 18, 2011. The birds drank green water from bowls half filled with feces, ate contaminated food and picked and chewed on rancid bedding at the bottom of their cages on a daily basis. Many birds were infested with mites. From day to day, new birds, ranging in age from months to years old would show up in these dirty cages without quarantine. Birds that were accepted off the street and placed indiscriminately in the cages for resale. Money is number one in this store, not the animals. The employees walk around with their mouths hanging open and when you ask them to change the bird water it's always too much trouble. The manager, "Bob", is your best friend when you have your arms full of items at the checkout counter, but just try and mitigate a health problem that you have with a sick animal purchased from him. He will double-talk you on the phone in an attempt to convince you it's' YOUR fault, and when he cant he will just hang up in your face like a small child throwing a tantrum. One would think that a smaller pet store chain such as this would be a better choice than a "Petco" or "PetSmart", but obviously they do not have any set procedures in place to assure the health of the pets they sell and just allow them to live in filth. If you love animals you should think twice before you give "Bob" your money at the expense of the health of the animals he "sells".

This is the worst store ever, I will never shop here and if you are a dog lover I advise you to do the same. Our beloved family dog recently had to have a front leg amputated, our vet advised us to call around and see if any of the local pet supply stores had speciality clothing due to the fact the scar was very bad and could be alarming to some people especially our very young sons. We called Petco in Woburn Massachusetts and asked if they happen to carry clothing for three legged dogs which there is a line of clothing called Tripaws, we were hoping they carried it. The woman who answered the phone was so rude. She told us, " Why dont you just make it easy on yourselves and cut the other leg off." I am still in shock over this, I hope this place gets shutdown soon. Meanwhile, Me and everyone I know who owns a pet will be across the street at PetSmart.

I ordered a cage online. 1st it was out of stock and they sent an email stating it was back in stock. Chated w/online rep to verify item was in fact, in stock. Rep stated it was. Received email later after order was placed that the item was backordered. Item is no longer listed on their site. I personally called vendor, Marvelous Pet Supplies, to check if item is still being manufactured and their number is disconnected. Web site is still valid. Friday I called petco rep and they said they would check the status and call by Monday. It is Tuesday and I recieved no call. Called corporate headquarters in California. Once I reached the operator and she said she would transfer me to a manager. 6 rings and the line went dead. Now it just rings when I try to reach operator. Very poor support and no help at all

I was at a Petco in Triadelphia, Wv looking at their Water Dragons. One was very upbeat, energetic, and acted friendly. I noticed what looked to be a tail of another hidden behind a big faux cement water bowl. I approached 2 employees of the department and asked which one was for the reptile department, to which the reply from the male was,"I am done. My shift is ended." So, I turned to the female, who replied," I don't know what to do with a reptile. I am not familiar with handling them." and blah, blah, blah. I told them I think one of them is dead in the tank and the guy then went to the tank, pulled it out, which the smell was horrible, and pulled the almost dead Water Dragon out and said,"Oh yeah. You don't want to buy this one. He isn't dead yet, but he's a cold one." Then, he proceded to lay the almost dead, very dark green/black reptile right on display and pushed the tank back in and went on his merry little way while the female walked away. Needless to say, I am sick to my stomach as is my daughter and her son, who is only 4. The male also said that the reptiles are brought by Fed X and 'they get tossed around quite a bit, I imagine.' WTF?!? Does Fed X seriously have boxes of reptiles that they just toss around all day long and then take them to a pet shop to sell for $50.00 or more? No wonder they mostly look so rough and tattered and are unfriendly. :( I have the highest compassion for animals and I am so appalled by this that I am taking it as far up the chain as I can. I will never, ever go to Petco again for any reason whatsoever and I will definately spread the word of how these reptiles are treated. Petco should be ashamed of themselves!

I am completely at a loss for words right now. I purchased a female guinea pig on February 12, 2011 at the Petco in Northridge, California. Today, March 5, 2011, I noticed that the female guinea pig is now PREGNANT. Knowing that she was not impregnated while in my care, I called the store and asked to speak to the store manager. I spoke to a guy name David, who was helpful. I explained my situation, and asked what the store policy was on pregnant pets. He told me that the store did not have a policy on pregnant pets. After pausing a few moments, he asked when I purchased the pig. I told him when I purchased it and he told me that the 15 day pet guarantee had expired, but he was willing to take back the pig. I told him I wasn't comfortable with that, due to the fact that they would probably euthanize the pig, either while still pregnant, or shortly after birth. He said that there wasn't anything else I could do. I am planning on contacting the headquarters and demand that they pay for the vet bills. Oh, but the story gets better. After contacting a guinea pig forum on the internet, I found out that this pig, due to her coloring, carries a genetic defect that is lethal to its pups. Oh great. Its not that I was sold a pregnant guinea pig, but I am also sold a guinea pig that will most likely die in labor, or give birth to pups that will die shortly after birth. So do I take the pig back and let them kill it, or do I let the poor thing die in labor? Either way, Im screwed. First off, petco breds a guinea pig that is WAY to young to be bred, they mix female and male guinea pigs, sell an unsuspecting customer a pregnant guinea pig, and then expect them to foot the bill? I think not.... Petco does not responsibly take care of their pets and I would recommend going somewhere else for pet adoptions.

Took my son to Petco Northridge last night, to get a fish for his 9th birthday. Thought it was going to be a pleasent experience, wow was I wrong. After standing in the fish dept. for 30 minutes, NO help, my son went to the register to tell the female clerks that we would like some help. They paged 3 times to get help for us and still not one employee came. It's now 45 minutes and the manager of the store has passed us numerous times. I finally stop him ask for help. We tell him that we want a gold fish, he proceeds to tell us that we have to have a 10 gallon tank for one little gold fish. I dont want a tank that big but am willing to look at other options. I begin to ask him questions, and he walks away from me mid sentence to answer the phone. Again we are waiting for help, still astonished that we have been there so long. Another 15 minutes goes by finally fed up, son in tears, I walk to the register and sarcasticlly ask for help from someone that isn't an "a**hole". A lovely girl came over showed us options apologized for her manager, picked our fish out, were on our way to get the fish and pay for my now 5.5 gallon tank. The manager told the employee that he was REFUSING service to me because I wasn't getting a 10 gallon tank. I will NEVER shop there again. Horrible manager, left my son in tears empty handed and never bothered to take the time to see what my son wanted. PETCO should be ashamed of themselves employing such rude people.

I just visited this Petco and am still shaking. I went then they were having their Pet Adoptions going on. I not sure if anyone else has noticed but the conditions these dogs are placed in can be really pretty bad. They are in a small pen with usually a lot of pee on the floor. Well as I was getting my dog food a fight broke out in the pen between a small dog and a pitbull. Seriously why would you put three small dogs and a pitbull together. Needless to say the pitbull was mauling the little dog in front of about 10 small children with their parents. What really made it worse was that the associates literally watched as the dog was mauling the little dog - even the "Trainer" had her arms crossed and did nothing! I ran over there and started yelling "do something" as well as the group that gathered around. One staff finally went over the fence and pulled the pitbull off of the little dog. Then they didn't help the little dog right away, we had to tell them it was badly hurt. It had a bloody leg and one of the staff picked it up and carried it away. But it gets better. They literally left the pitbull with the two other dogs until some boys showed them how they could keep the dogs separate using the fencing that surrounds them. My heart ached - come on these dogs have been through enough. This desperately needs to be better monitored and do not put pitbulls with small dogs - it doesn't work! Even Pet Smart's Pet Adoptions are much cleaner and controlled! Thank you for reading. I just had to vent.

i am/was a service provider that have provided excellant service to your stores and got booted because of switching of management companys and was told ive been the best service provider in a very long time by your local petco managers(overa dozen of them). i was in charge of over a dozen petcos. what do i tell the employees when they get 4 out of 5 at the least as a rating they lose they jobs(only had them a few months)? Four great workers are gonna get laid off cuz of poor management of your company. Nobody contacted me. i had to hear from the grapevine that the managment company i worked for got let go and my last day is end of week. thank you for running such a a**backwards company. if someone would answer the phone or called me i wouldnt have had to put petcos b.s. on net. 1 out of 5 stars cause at least you pay your bills other then that ZERO. my money was always on time and my service was 4 star plus continueously. so why would headquarters let this happen? we always did a great job as per petco managers. nice places bad corperation. :( my family or employees didnt deserve it. bet petsmart dont do this to there own. signed, Amazed & Upset over big corps who dont care about their customers and workers.

THE worst customer service EVER!!! Everyone is in the Philippines and do not speak english. I spent over an hour and a half attempting to place an order with Petco.com and using their toll free number and they tell me it is not possible to speak to someone in America. What a shame Petco!!! I'll stick with my local pet store in America!
