I just recently purchased a day gecko that had dry lip very badly. (As I am a reptile enthusiast and felt bad for this guy) He was about to die and I knew if i didnt pick him up he would. They had not been misting the cage at all and no uvb lighting on him. I bought him and today he passed away. I accidently through the reciept away and so I called petco and asked them if there was anyway they could look up the purchase on the computer. Now I know everyone that works at this petco farely personally because i live in a small town. But,I do not know the manager. Well she was extremely rude about it then told me no. So when I started to argue with her she hung up on me. I spent roughly 250 dollars on this guy and his vivarium that I made for him. After this excperience I will never shop at my local petco again. I would like to say that while I acknowledge that people both on the customer end and the associate end will have different experiences at different locations, I don't believe in generalizing/grouping all stores the same. I have worked for Petco for 5 years now, yes there are stressors - like at any job - but overall I am happy where I work. I have great benefits, I get to help all kinds of people with all kinds of animals, I get to help support animal rescue and adoption, and I feel like I am respected and listened to. So before anyone makes judgement on Petco as a company - consider that just because you had a bad visit at one store, doesn't mean you will at another. I take my job seriously as do many others, and only strive to make the best customer experience possible. And to all the disgruntled former associates - no, hours are not based on how many donations or PALS members you enroll, and yes they might post information about your progress- as well as the progress of others during donation drives, but that is not singling you out or harassing you. It's merely sharing data with you, and everyone else. And if you honestly felt you were being harassed you know there are numbers you can call and people you can speak with. Again, I have been with this company for 5 years and I have to say that I'm happy where I'm at.
I was quite disturbed upon viewing the setup of the baby Bearded Dragon enclosure. They were on this ultra fine sand that yes, is intended for Bearded Dragons, but not for babies or juveniles. I brought this to an associates attention who did not know that young Dragons should not be kept on such a substrate. I informed him as to what I use and how to keep them properly. A week later, I walk into the store and saw that the babies are being kept on the very substrate that I recommended! Repti-carpet! GREAT JOB PETCO!!! I am so glad that they took heed to the dangers that they were inflicting upon the baby Dragons and now the potential buyers do not have to worry about impaction! This store is located in Kingman Arizona.
I been taking my dogs Matilda and Sofie to the Petco location on Clybourn in Chicago for over a year now for grooming services, over a month ago, I took them in and Matilda(maltipoo female) came back home with a grooming injury, bleeding and a big shave hole in her back that was red and no fur at all...I called and complained about it....the manager only said "Im sorry" and minutes after the groomer "Jessie" called to apologized....he is been the one that always shave her with no problems at all...this time even when they said was him, I know it wasn't at all....Matilda's haircut looked like a very poor apprentice did, and also, gave her a big cut that until today over a month after...she still have no hair and is red....at this point I am going to take her to the vet, because i don't know if maybe they shave her with an infected machine and also gave her an infection that still causing bad things for her to get her coat bro again.....I won't ever recommend petco at all for anything....I used to spend lots of money there and now I won't recommend anybody that love their pets to take them to that horrible place......PLEASE BE AWARE OF THE BAD MANAGEMENT YOU HAVE IN THAT CHICAGO STORE!!!

I would contact one of the two new owners directly TPG or Leonard Green & Partners due to the fact they are the groups who own Petco now and they are only in it to make money, but it might be better than calling out of the country.
I called Petco to find out if they had a groomer available to just trim my dogs nails it was yesterday (Sunday) they said yes walk in and that they were available that day. I drove 45 minutes to get there that is why I called first ... the groomer asked me if my dog had her rabies updated I said yes but her tag was at home... they would not trim her nails... I asked to speek to the manager to complain as I had called first and they didn't state anything about this policy. The manager never came it was a 20 minute wait!! I called the headquarters and was told that I was going to get a call and as of today have not received one yet. I will never go back to Petco again and I have been a memeber since 2002.
Due to a hostile work environment*, I sought another job. A week after applying, I had an interview and was hired. That same day, Wednesday February 29th, 2012, I walked into Petco to quit. The manager, Dee Lasley demanded 2 weeks’ notice, and I told her that I was to start the new job as soon as possible. She said I needed to put my quitting in writing, so I did and stated that day as my last day. On Saturday, March 3rd, 2012 I walked in to collect my final paycheck as per Section 201a of the Labor Code and she said that "regardless, (you) have to wait until payday." When I informed her that withholding my paycheck was illegal, she said, "Whatever, job abandonment." *By hostile work environment, I mean: an 8-hour shift cut with only 45 minutes’ notice; the manager coming in on her day off to scold the salon about requests for time off and name calling associated with such a “problem,”; my time off request sheets suddenly being “misplaced” or “forgotten” when I had given ample notice for the requested time off; three offers for grooming school only to have them dismissed due to childish reasons (the last offer was rescinded unbeknownst to me and I was informed of such a change the day I came in to quit); and, on a personal note, rampant gossiping about the dog rescue my family runs and until the first week of February 2012, hosted adoptions at the store.
I have been shopping at Petco for years because it is the only pet store in the Strongsville,Oh area. I did not realize until my last 2 purchases that they charge tax on the full amount prior to the sale price and/or price with coupons. A respected reporter wrote an article in the Cleveland Plain Dealer stating that taxes are to be added after coupons are applied but Petco applies taxes before adding discounts and coupons. When I showed the manager the article, he pretty much said the journalist had no clue what she was talking about. Called other retailers to find out if they apply tax to original prices when there's a sale. The answer was absolutely not. Tax is only applied to the advertised sales price. What is Petco up to. A few cents here and there adds up. Buyer beware, check your receipts! I will travel out of Strongsville from now on to buy from a repital retailer.
Well I guess these folks that own the petco stores either do no listen to their customers or they just don't care like so many other companys going down the toilet. My wife walked into the store in our area of Mentor Ohio. Upon entering, she indicated she needed some help in finding a certain product that was recomended to her by our groomer. It was like pulling teeth just to get some help. We have been through this before with this same store. We do not have this problem when we go to Petsmart which is a little out of the way for us which won't be a problem anymore. We will not be returning to Petco anymore. Another company of empty stores in the near future.
I just had a HORRIBLE experience @ Petco in Seattle, WA located in Ballard on 15h Ave. I own 2 harlequin shrimp and the ONLY thing they eat are starfish. NOTHING ELSE. I just got them as a gift and they ate all my asterinas quickly. I went to get a chocolate starfish to cut up and store for them so I can be prepared for their hearty appetite. As my starfish was being taken out of the water the manager ran over and asked "Are you putting that in a reef tank?" And said, "Warm salter water 20 gallon." (As I had my arms full of aquarium merchandise ready to PURCHASE) She asked what was in the tank and I mentioned my Harlequins. She said she can't sell it to me and no way, Against company policy to sell them for that reason. I was shoked BECUASE Petco is what fed my SNAKE, and I bought turbo snails to feed my Mantis Shrimp. WTH?! PLUS my ma/pa aquarium was closed and Petco was LAST RESORT!! STICK WITH LOCALLY OWNED PET STORES!!! Support the community and get what you need for the right/appropriate reasons. And you ALWAYS can talk to the same person without waiting on hold and getting an individual you can't understand!! BTW, Never did purchase my merchandise. Paying more to go somewhere else now. Petco lost me and my $. I'm paying MORE to never go back there.
You must be a 'favorite' employee to get perks, it is amazing what some of them get away with ! The theft is unreal....It IS theft when they price change. Corporate needs to send in a secret spy employee to see what really goes on, not that I think they care... I've only worked at two of their stores, one in upper northeast, which was run very well, no clowning around in that store, and one in southeast, very poorly managed and those that complained were probably the ones who got fired. You can't even complain to the District management because, if he tells his boss how wonderful the store is being run, then it makes him look good too ! hhhhhmmmmmmm, something fishy there ! Human resources is terrible, they blow you off and don't call the customer care line because you are calling the Phillipines and they don't give a rats ass..
PETCO has terrible customer service. If you make the mistake to place an online order, you will NEVER speak to someone in this country. The people who answer the phone do not do what they say. I wanted to cancel an online order and was told by the service rep that the order was cancelled but it was not. They shipped 50.00 worth of food I did not want. They said they cannot cancel an order. A major corporation like that cant cancel an order?? The reps cannot speak English well and they keep you waiting on the phone forever. A TERRIBLE SHOPPIMNG ECXPERIENCE. KEEP THE JOBS IN THE USA--DON'T SHOP PETCO. Their stores are not much better. If you call to complain---NOBODY CARES. I will never shop with them again, they cannot be trusted.

FUIMOS DESCRIMINADOS Y SE PORTARON RAZISTAS.., Fui a la tienda petco # 647-4007 en san Antonio Texas, acompañada con mi hijo de 6años, fuimos a comprar una pitón bola , y lo necesario para llevarnos el pitón a casa, nos atendió un empleado llamado matt nos atendió de forma razista, y muy grosero , me pregunto que si tenia todo lo nesesario para el piton y le dije ke si, que yo en mi casa tenia la pesera , que solo me faltaban algunos accesorios que en ese momento estaba por comprar, no me quiso vender el pitón ni ninguna de las cosas nesesarias, la razon fue porque según el yo le estaba mintiendo de que no tenia lo nesesario, aparte de ser tratada descriminada tambien me acuso de mentirosa, y no me quiso vender nada, después trate de hablar con el mamager y tampoco me quiso atender. , mi hijo sufrió un ataque de llanto por el mal trato que nos dieron y por la injusticia y nadie nos quiso ayudar por ser mexicanos.. Since Petco's customer service is in the Philipines and they really do not care for the companies they service, they give wrong information and do not and can not do what they say. I was supposed to get a $5.00 couon from my Pals club card and never received it. Three times I called and they said the sent it via Email. Varified my address but still never recieved one only a UPC code number they said is good. NOT They refused to give me an American phone number or any contact information in the US. I think that is illegal, but they don't care they are off shore. So in reality there is NO customer service and Petco is paying some in the Philipians for nothing, plus losing customers. Petco you are in trouble
petco is horrible i went there 2 times to get worm medication for my dog 2 different associates gave me 2 different answers to my questions i wound up having to buy 2 different kinds of medications because of the information they gave me w/the $ i spent there i could have went to a vet a saved $ now i wanna fogure out how i can be reimbursed for all the dough i put out because of their lack of knowledge
They sell exotic pets and claim to know the sex of them---but are not always correct. We bought a guinea pig labeled as a female. I even asked the employee helping us to double check because we had females at home. She did and assured me that this one was female. Two months later we found out that the new pig was male. How did we know? He impregnated the 4 females. Two died from pregnancy-related complications. We are still awaiting the fate of the other two. While this may have been an honest mistake, it speaks to the lack of training of the employees. If they are going to sell guinea pigs, why are they put in the position of not being given sufficient information to determine the sex of an animal accurately? I don't blame the employee; I blame the company. They should not sell guinea pigs.
1 week before Christmas I bought my 4yr old son a gold fish from the Hagerstown md store And the sales person informed me that the one we wanted had a disease called ick so we chose another from a different tank which we jus found out three days ago was also infected and has killed two fish in his tank one that was purchased and one we have had for two years thanks petco u really made my sons Day
DID U KNOW THE CASHIERS HOURS ARE BASED ON HOW MANY TIMES U GET PEOPLE TO USE THEIR PETCO CARD, AND HOW MANY DONATIONS U CAN GET. RIDICULOUS. THE MANAGEMENT PUSHES YOU TO GET DONATIONS AND IF U DON'T GET OVER 30 DOLLARS A DAY THEY CRITICIZE YOU AND CUT YOUR HOURS. SOME B.S. THERE. I HATED WORKING THERE GETTING HARASSED BY MY G.M. AND ASSISTANT G.M. THEY WERE COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL!!! THEY EVEN POST YOUR DONATIONS FROM THE PRIOR DAY AND AT THAT STORE THEY WORK WRITE COMMENTS ON THEM TO LIKE "YOU CAN DO BETTER", "WHAT HAPPENED", "YOU NEED TO PICK IT UP", OR PUT FROWNING FACES ON IT FOR EVERY OTHER EMPLOYEE TO SEE. THE WORST PLACE I HAVE EVER WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I go into Petco 4-5 x's a wk. to buy waxworms, superworms and crickets for my bearded dragon. Every container of worms has been opend, and never do they contain the amout the package says. I told the store manager and he said " I know, thats because the customers open the containers to fill up the one they are going to buy, this way they have more". I said " thats called stealing" The manager proceeds to tell me it's not worth calling the cops on them for $4. So I say " well Iam paying for a full container of 50 or 100 worms and all I get is abou 12, so now your stealing my money for no product". I told him I should get a few containers for free to make up for the money I spent on practically nothing. He told me that he could not do that, but he could give me a discount. "Oh great " I said. Now I am at the counter to pay for 2 more containers of 50 waxworms and mind you, in the past week I have just spent 25 0r 30 dollars on these things and should have gotten atleast 450 worms ( I got about 60 worms alltogether) and he gives me only $3.65 off. So I won't shop there, now I will go to PetSmart! Not to mention the baby bearded dragons are on sand and no proper heat lamps or UVB lighting, the temps are well below what they should be and they are useing the wrong thermometers!
