Our family car overheated on I-75 south on our way to Clearwater Beach from Atlanta. As this occurred on a Saturday, the tow truck driver said he was going to tow it to Pep Boys in Gainesville, FL. Sounded good to me. Hey, I've seen the commercials with the bobble-head dolls and all. The couldn't look at it that day but we have an appointment for 10:00 on Sunday morning. They were the only place open on Sunday. Informed me that my thermostat needed to be replaced to the tune of $260.00!!! I felt I didn't have much choice so I agreed because we wanted to be on our way. Get the car back a few hours later (to change an thermostat?), stop at a store and go through a drive through for some food and all is well - until we get back on the interstate! I hadn't gone ten miles before the engine starts to overheat again! Same thing! I call Pep Boys and tell them I am on my way back. And I'm beyond ticked off! We didn't make it back. We have to pull off the interstate one exit from the Pep Boy place. Steam coming out - the whole sha-bang. I am informed by Pep Boys that I will have to pay to have it towed back to them and that I was informed that there might have been some damage to the engine due to the first overheating. Say What??? I blew up! No, I was not going to pay to have it towed back to them when they said it was repaired. But they made it clear it wasn't their responsibility. So here I am stuck in Gainesville, FL knowing that they would not get to it today and we are looking at another day before a fix. And how would I know that it was fixed because they said they can't test drive cars on the interstate even though that's where the problem was occurring. Where else in Florida can you get to those speeds so that you can see what was happening? Does Pep Boys need to invest in a high speed test course? Apparently. Decided not to let these Bozos touch the car again as I didn't want to throw good money after bad. Who knows what they would say was wrong this time since they set the stage for the whole "engine damage" scenario. I believe that feel women can be ripped off the minute they walk in the door and I refuse to allow them to touch it. If need be, I'll rent a truck and a U-Haul hitch and tow it back home to my mechanic myself. At least then I'll know it's taken care of properly.
Pep boys in San Fernando has the WORSE customer service!!!!! Beginning with the receptionist to the unit supervisors. The service department really sucks! Bad service...bad attitudes! I need to complain to corporate office about this store. It's really bad for the customers -- TERRIBLE FOR OUR COMMUNITY!
I purchased a battery for my car in April 2012. Appx. 6 weeks later it failed to work. I got AAA to jump it and their computer stated the battery was bad. I drove back and spoke with Steve, Asst MGR. at the Marlton store. He checked the battery and said it was still good. I told him it didn't take a full charge, but he REFUSED to give me a new battery. Three weeks later I returned again because the battery was dead. They gave me a new battery which took them over an hour to take out !! Two weeks later that second battery died!!! Steve,Asst Store Mgr. told me he would give me a cash refund, as I refused to be abused for a third time!!! I arrived at the store and brought back the new bad battery, and Steve had one customer in line and said he would be with me shortly. He is a very evil man, piss-poor Mgr. and has no PR,CS or any people ability but is a vengeful,obstinate man! I waited 45 MINUTES and finally spoke with the auto Manager, Joe, who was very pleasant and freely agreed to give me my money, but Steve was yelling across the store,"We have to check the battery first" and Joe said that was not necessary! Thank God I found ONE person that had a BRAIN! The cashier finally,but relunctantly gave me a cash refund! I will never buy anything from Pep Bays and will not recommend your store to anyone.
I took my car here for repairs. Very long story short they kept saying they found the problem, and when that did not fix it they found something else. They will also fix it to where you may not notice the problem any more, but it is still there and/ or gradually goes back to causing the same problem so you pay and think its fixed. They are crooks!!!!!
i take my car for an oil change and to change my tires. they put the wrong oil, charged me $800 to fix my suspension and joints, my car breaks down a week later which it has never broken down before and they just told me my transmission is out, they are robbing me and no one seems to think thats wrong???
let me start with the fact that i have used pep boys for many years.I have become increasingly aware that good help really is a luxury these days..I wanted to purchase rims and tires for my custom 1972 fleetside shortbed.It is 25 miles to my nearest pep boys as i moved recently.So.june 16th,i found time to go to the annapolis store-i looked the rims over and after careful consideration,i went to the counter (in the TIRE section) and explained everything i needed and wanted, to the "guy " there.After all of that,he tells me,with a smirk, that the PARTS counter must help me...WHAT??!!??-so,off to the parts counter.I stood there waiting and finally a girl asked if i neede help...?...really??.I explained myself AGAIN to her and she went to the computer.I told her what i had,and she pulls up a list of 1972 vehicles.It's a pickup.she says"a suburban?-"no" a c10 fleetside shortbed p i c k u p."we don't have that truck" she says "yeah,they're hard to find and i have the only one. Now i'm a little pissed."let's make it easy,my rims are 5x5,can you match them with any 5x5??-"Oh we can't do that,we only match to make of vehicle"...wtf!!-"so you don't know what tires you sell" "No"she says exasperated....and all i said was"ok" thank you------------what is wrong with pep boys that you can't sell tires based on size??Why is that so complicated???
Manny , Moe , & jack must be trying Over in there grave at the performance of the Pep Boys mechanics I took my truck and 84 Chevy pickup with 98,000 miles on it to pep boys because when you come to a stop I had to ride the brake to get the carburetor more fuel to keep it running. they told me that my carburetor needed removed and replaced carburetor rebuild that so they said. Then they removed and replaced my distributor cap parts and labor I paid a total $1093.24 my truck never made it out of the driveway it was doing the same exact thing that I came therefore stalling upon stops. I turned around to get back to pep boys comments that I need to remove and replace the timing cover gasket on the timing cover gasket set remove and replace they said I needed that. Here's the kicker i do not have a timing chain it has a timing gear and they told me that was fine so now they still have my truck this all started for 4 24 2012 over a month later I still don't have my truck 6/20/12 do you think it has something to do with the vacuum hoses I am ready to scream, they take advantage of people especially senior citizens we used to truck for charity and pick up donations. Your sins will find you out Pep Boys should be ashamed of yourself fix my truck and give me my money back if you can't. Columbus, Ohio on Hamilton av. Near refugee rd please don't go there. I have been a customer of pep boys for over 10 years. I had my vehicle towed to Pep boys in Manassas Virginia and while the vehicle was being prepared I lost my job. I had to make the decision to keep a roof over my head instead of getting my car. It stayed with them for 2 months and they had it towed to a storage lot. This is where things went wrong. The vehicle was damaged with a forklift. When I went to get the vehicle it was broken and the tow yard blamed pep boys and pep boys blamed them. They towed the car back to pep boys and they said they said something was unhooked by the two company. That kept the car from being put in drive or anything. They pep boys said there was a brake line leak. The leak didn't exist when the car arrived. They fixed that without authorization. Picked up the car and drive it for 1 day had it towed back and they had to replace the battery. That was done without authorization. Now that I have the truck back there is fluid leaking all over the place and the check engine light is on. I will never take my vehicle back to them again. I don't know if it is the management or what. The manager gave the money back for replacing the battery. He said he didn't need or kind of business. What I don't understand is the vehicle was with them and the tow lot and now it has more issues than why it was taken to them in the first place.
I called the store and asked to speak with the same rep that i had disc with earlier- pete, who claimed to be a manager, hung up on me 2xs what a sad company!!!!!!
If you allowed '0' stars that is what I would rate your company. Thank goodness that my story is nothing like many of the above but it is still a black mark on Pep Boys that I would like for people to know about. One day this week I went to Pep Boys to buy a fuel filter for my 1994 Oldsmobile Bravada, bought the filter went to the service department to see what the cost to install it would be, the young man quoted me $100. + for something that would normally take 20 minutes at the most. He must to have thought that I was stupid (woman) as he asked me three times if I wanted the air filter replaced to which I replied no sir the 'fuel' filter and when he told me the cost I was flabergasted, if infact your company charges this much to install this item it is criminal. I therefore will be returning my fuel filter to Pep Boys which cost $6.00 more than a competing company and will not do business with Pep Boys ever again.
In April 2012 I brought my 2000 ford focus in for a possible water pump, car over heated. Two days later they told me another problem that the intake housing cracked. The price $1,400.00. The intake housing part coming from ford direct. Ford sent the intake wrong part twice. The car is there for 3 weeks,now I am concerned....I am told they can,t get the car to run properly......that I must of did damage to engine...driving it for a long time when it over heated..wrong....drove it 4 blocks...directly to them...then they say they can,"t get the computer to reset and the idle to reset......I file a complaint with the main office. The next day they are dealing with technical support...the car is done next day. They also changed all the belts in the car.....I have the car back for 1 1/2 weeks....start car up making a lot of noise...losing power. I know it could be alternate belt...the idle running real hard and fast I drive 5 blocks back to the store in hasbrouck heights,new jersey. The next day I get a call that I need a new engine.....again saying I did the damage when it over heated. Another $2,00.00. I didn't,t have money to fix it. So upset. Towed car to my brothers house. He works for napa auto parts and was a mechanic. He fixed the car $20.00. A vacuum hose and new throttle. Needed no engine......scam...rip off.....they call themselvesl mechanics.....no thrives. I am reporting them to better business bureau. Thank God for my brother.
In April I had my car towed to Pep Boys in Laurel MD. When they checked the cars they stated we needed front brakes replaced. We had the work done. They took it for a test drive. When they returned from the test drive they informed us that the Master Cylinder Spring was broken and needed to be replaced. They then sent us on our way with vague directions to a Ford Dealer. 2 miles later call another tow truck. Needless to say after losing 2 days of vacation and spending over $600 including all the additional tow fees we were very let down with our Pep Boys experience. Posted my complaint on their Facebook page and I got a call from the Service Manager in Laurel who offered me a free oil change or 10% discount on a future service. Like I really want to let you near my car again. Thanks but no. A follow up later received 0 response of course. The fact that "mechanics" would would send us out in a car with questionable brakes with 3 kids in the car really illustrates the quality of work Pep Boys produces. Perhaps posting with the BBB would yield better results. Or at least keep others from treated so carelessly.
I took my 2003 ford focus into PepBoys in Marietta, GA. because my steering wheel was shaking 65mph and above and asked them to determine why that was. They came back with a report that I needed to replace my tie-rods at a cost of 277.00. I authorized the repair out of fear my tires might buckle when driving. the next day I got on the freeway and proceeded to drive and again at 65mph my steering wheel began shaking. I came home and looked up the corporate headquarters # and found this site with the information. I called, filed a report and got a case #. I was told I would be contacted by someone concerning my issue and 2 days later I got a call from the store manager. He told me to take my car back in. I did a few days later when I had time. I explained to the cst service rep the situation and they put my cat up on the hoist. the results came back all I needed was a tire balance and I had a slight bed in one of my rims.They wanted to charge me $40.00 to balanlce my tires. It turns out they never even checked the tires. also one of the caps on my rims were missing and i know for sure it was there when I brought itin.. I Called customer Service back and was told told the complaint had been closed. They reopened the complaint and said I woulld hear from someone in 24 to 48 hours and I haven't heard from anyone yet. I now want a total refund of my initial 277.00.
I experienced much of the same issues the other one stars did. First.... took my car in for over heating..... they fixed it..... no they didn't. Took it back in and they gave me a mile list of things wrong with my car including what they "fixed" the month prior. I informed them and they refused the issue. Got my car back with a cracked dash, light out in the instrument cluster, windshield wiper fluid hoses disconnected, a steering wheel that I could lift up and down (my steering wheel is fixed.... not adjustable) a power outlet that blows fuses when you plug anything into it and the reason for all this... my car is "old" its an 01 but when you say your tech has 30 yrs experience so it couldn't have been him and my lights just burned out cuz they're old and they come back on when I slam my door in, let's say frustration to put it nice....... there must be magic at work cuz burned bulbs don't fix themselves. Calling the customer line got me redirected to the lying manager to solve these issues and he said all he could do is give me a cover for my dash....... over a year later and im still waiting for this cover and living with the damages they did to my car. So if you like paying for someone to damage your car and lie to you the by all means pb is the place for you. There should be a zero star award for this company. I thought I would have been an isolated incident but it seems they're like this across the country, lucky I own my own set of tools
Ordered a puller on 5-4-12 via internet and was advised that it was in the store and I would be advised when I could pick it up. On 5-5-12 had not heard from PB so I sent an email telling them to cancel the order. On 5-12-12 (8 days later) received email telling me my order was ready for pick up and again advised PB that I had cancelled the order. Then on 5-12-12, received an email thanking me for the purchase and my credit card was charged. Sent them another email telling them I had cancelled the order. Filled out a customer resolution form and was advised that they would contact me within 48 hours. It has been more than 48 hours and no contact. They don't even deserve a rating of 1. Should be a 0.
I went to Pep Boys for a basic Oil change. Less than 5miles later my car died, popped the hood & oil was everywhere. I took my car back to Pep Boys for an explanation (My car was fine before the oil change) They told me my engine is cracked and I need a new engine. Why was this not noticed during the oil change? They most certainly noticed I needed (4) new tires. Apparently while driving a piston must have broken & hit my engine causing it to crack. Now they want $2700 to install an engine in my car...........They give mechanics a bad rap. I may be a woman but I am not stupid. I wish I never took my car in for an oil change that day. Nobody wants to take blame, obviously and they are refusing to give us corporate phone information.
I WENT TO STORE LOCATED AT 3737 CRENSHAW BLVD, LOS ANGELES, CA. I WAS AT JUST FOR TIRES ON SEPULVEDA GETTING MY WHEELS ALIGN AND WAS ADVISE BY ONE OF THEIR EMPLOYEES TO GO TO PEP BOYS ON CRENSHAW THEY CAN HELP YOU OUT. ASK FOR JOHN AND TELL THEM SOMEONE FROM JUST FOR TIRES ADVISED YOU GO TO THEM. 5/6/12 IS WHEN I WENT TO PEP BOYS AND MARIO ADVISED ME TO GET MY KEY TO MY RIMS SO THEY CAN TAKE IT OFF. I WENT HOME GOT LOCK AND MY GIRLFRIEND(DOMESTIC PARTNER) DROVE BACK TO LOCATION BECAUSE SHE WAS PAYING. IT SEEMS THAT WHEN WE RETURNED TO LOCATION MARIO'S DEMEANOR CHANGED WHEN HE SAW MY GIRLFRIEND GET OUT OF CAR. NOW THIS IS ON AN ASSUMPTION HE MADE ONCE HE SAW HER. SHE COULD HAVE BEEN MY SISTER, COUSIN, OR JUST FRIEND. HE ASSUMED WE WERE A COUPLE. HE DIDN'T TALK TO ME THE SAME AND ALMOST THREW THE PAPERWORK AT ME. MY GIRLFRIEND AND I WALKED AROUND CORNER TO WAIT ON DIAGNOSIS OF VEHICLE CHECK. WHILE WE WERE WAITING MY GIRLFRIEND HEARD TALKING BY A MALE AND FEMALE, SAYING SUCH THINGS LIKE "SHE'S A DIKE." "THOSE DIKE ASS BITCHES". MY GIRLFRIEND WALKED AROUND CORNER AND SURPRISED THE TECHNICIAN AND FEMALE THAT HE WAS TALKING TO. THEY WERE SURPRISED WE WERE STANDING THERE AND STARTING TALKING IN SPANISH. MARIO RETURNS TALKING ABOUT HE'S BEEN CALLING TO GET IN TOUCH WITH ME. THE NUMBER HE HAS IS OFF AND I ADVISED HIM WERE STAYING HERE. SHOWED ME A LIST OF THINGS MY CAR NEEDED. MY GIRLFRIEND WAS TALKING TO HIM TO LET HIM KNOW THAT WE ONLY WANTED THE FIRST TWO ITEMS WORKED ON FOR NOW BECAUSE WE DIDNT HAVE ENOUGH MONEY TO GET ALL OF THE ITEMS DONE. HE TOTALLY IGNORED MY GIRLFRIEND AND KEPT ASKING ME WHAT I WANTED DONE. I BASICALLY REPEATED WHAT MY GIRLFRIEND SAID TO HIM. THE WHOLE TIME HE'S REALLY NOT LISTENING TO ME OR LOOKING AT WHAT I WAS POINTING OUT TO HIM. HE SAYS OK AND TAKES THE PAPER SAYING THAT IT WOULD BE ABOUT 3HRS OR SO. MY GIRLFRIEND IS SO UPSET SHE IS READY TO LEAVE. WE GO PURCHASE ITEMS FROM PEPBOYS AND MY GIRLFRIEND WANTED ME TO ASK FOR THE TOTAL SO SHE CAN GET THE MONEY TOGETHER. I SPEAK WITH MARIO AND THAT IS WHEN HE BRINGS ME OUTSIDE TO SHOW ME THAT WHEEL BEARING WAS REPLACED AND THAT THEY WERE WAITING FOR THE ENGINE MOUNT. I ADVISED HIM THAT I DIDNT AUTHORIZE THIS WORK ON MY CAR. THIS IS WHEN HE SAID " I THOUGHT U GUYS WANTED ALL THESE DONE" THIS IS WHEN I ADVISED HIM AGAIN THAT HE WAS WRONG BECAUSE I DONT EVEN HAVE ENOUGH MONEY TO PAY FOR THOSE ITEMS AND THAT IS WHY WE WANTED ONLY THE FIRST ITEMS DONE. MY GIRLFRIEND SPOKE WITH MARIO STATING WHAT WE ASKED FOR AND WHAT HE GAVE US WAS NOT CORRECT. AT THIS POINT I JUST WANTED MY CAR BACK WITH ALL THE PARTS THAT WERE ORIGINALLY ON THERE WHEN I CAME TO BUSINESS. HE THEN ADVISED SOMEONE TO TAKE THAT SHIT OFF OF THERE BECAUSE THEY DONT IT ANYMORE NOW. HE THEN ADVISED ME IT WAS GOING TO BE 1 TO 2 HRS BEFORE I CAN HAVE MY CAR BACK. MY GIRLFRIEND AND I SAT IN WAITING AREA. SHE IS STATING IN A LOUD TONE THAT THEY DONT HAVE THE RIGHT TO TAKE ANY PARTS OFF THE VEHICLE THAT THEY INSTALLED , WANTING THEM TO EXPLAIN THE MANTRA ON THE WALL REGARDING SATISFACTION GUARANTEE OR CUSTOMER PAYS NOTHING. MARIO NOR DID ANY ONE FILL HER REQUEST. SOME OTHER MECHANIC CAME INTO THE WAITING ROOM ACTING LIKE HE WAS INTERESTED IN BASKETBALL GAME ON T.V. HE THEN TURNED AROUND TOWARDS MY GIRLFRIEND AND I WHILE POINTING IN OUR DIRECTIONS AND MAKING STATEMENTS IN SPANISH. I BELIEVE HE THOUGHT WHAT HE WAS SAYING WAS NOT UNDERSTOOD BY ME OR MY GIRLFRIEND. HE WAS LAUGHING, POINTING, AND TELLING HIS CO-WORKERS THAT "SHE IS A PUNK ASS DIKE ASS BITCH" AT THAT POINT JUST WANTED MY CAR. I COULDNT BELIEVE WHAT I JUST EXPERIENCED. I FELT THAT THEY WERE TRYING TO INTIMIDATE MY GIRLFRIEND AND I. I KEPT SAYING I DONT UNDERSTAND WHAT HAPPEN FROM THE TIME I LEFT TO WHEN I RETURNED. I DIDNT LEAD ANYONE ON IN ANY MANNER AND FOR THEM TO TREAT US LIKE THIS IS VERY DISTURBING TO ME. I DONT KNOW IF THEY DID ANY MORE DAMAGE TO MY CAR OR MADE SURE MY PARTS WERE PUT BACK IN PLACE. I WILL NEVER GIVE MY BUSINESS EVER AGAIN TO PEP BOYS BECAUSE OF THIS EXPERIENCE ONLY. I FELT THREATEN AND JUDGED BECAUSE THEIR BLATANT RUSH TO DISCRIMINATION AGAINST TWO PEOPLE THEY LITERALLY JUST MET. I WANTED THEIR SERVICES AND WISHED I NEVER WENT THERE. I JUST WONDER HOW THINGS WOULD HAVE PLAYED OUT IF MY GIRLFRIEND DIDNT RETURN BACK WITH ME.
I want to bring attention to the methods by which Pep Boys takes advantage of, and then abandon, individuals in the businesses they overtake. While their CEO and other officials are "sitting pretty", workers who have dedicated 10, 12, 14 years to their prior employers are axed when Pep Boys takes over. As if losing their jobs isn't bad enough, Pep Boys severely cripples these employees by forcing them to sign a RIDICULOUS 10-yr non-compete agreement; this means that these individuals are completely unable to get jobs in the industry in which they have trained and worked SOOOO very hard. I know of one family, including 6 small children, who is in dire need of assistance since they are on the verge of homelessness and going hungry................BUT the Pep Boys Corporate execs will not allow the father of the family to get a job in the industry (the only thing he knows) because of their ineptness in and insecurity about their company; they think this person will take away the clients. Alot more clients will leave their business once this word spreads; it will since I intend to go to the media, Chamber of Commerce, Better Business Bureau, and anywhere else I see fit to make an impact. They do not deserve the privilege of being in business!!!!!!

So sad that not one good post was on here. They couldn't even put my wipers on my truck after they sold me ones that weren't for my truck in the first place. This company should just light a match and walk away soooooooooo sad what this country has become
