I have literally broken my back for Menards. I have had two major back surgeries as a result of being overworked and underpaid as a morning stocker. I was even nice enough (or maybe stupid enough) not to make it a workmans comp claim. Even though I required back surgery, Menards turned down my being able to take a personal leave as I had not accumulated enough hours to qualify for medical leave. These guys are crooked!!!
The absolute worst experience ordering a counter it has been over two months I am without a kitchen. If you are doing a kitchen remodel GO ELSEWHERE!!!!!!!!
Everyone I know has far better customer service at Menards than at Home Depot or Lowe's. That doesn't mean every experience is great. One big problem in this forum is that people go into a RETAIL STORE and expect to be talking with construction professionals. This should not be the expectation. The associates in any of those stores do their best to understand their product and help stupid people figure out what they need to complete their remodelling projects. If you need someone to explain to you HOW to do your project, you should be calling a contractor, not talking to a cashier or stockperson. Every store is different, and some Menards do an excellent job with guest service, while others do struggle to seem interested in helping guests. The only time I have seen an employee be rude to a guest is when the guest is being rude in the first place. It is not the employees fault you can't tell the difference between a light bulb and a pressure washer. Do YOUR OWN research and use the employees as tools to help you find the right product, don't expect them to fix your mistakes or realize your ignorance.
I support the military and am VERY grateful for the services they have provided to protect my freedom. I also support para-military service organizations like police officers and firefighters. I can understand why there are many frustrations with having a 10% discount program being revoked. However, Menards is right--they do have much lower prices than other stores. They are constantly checking to keep their prices under their competition so make certain that EVERYONE gets a better price at Menards than anywhere else. Why do you feel ENTITLED to the discount? Do you get 10% off everywhere you go? At some stores, senior citizens are the ones with the discount--as if being older means that the sweater they pick up off the shelf didn't cost the company as much as the one I grabbed. Discounts for a specified group of people is unfair. Items in Menards go on sale often enough you can always find a good price. I did a remodelling project and planned for $2000 to spend. By watching out for rebates and discounts, I spent $1825, and if I had paid regular price it would have totalled $2175. I got more than 10% off just by paying attention and shopping smart. I never went up to the counter to demand a 10% discount because I'm a woman--or because I'm a blood donor--or because I'm a college student that has a very limited income. Thank you for your time, your service, your sacrifice--I am sorry that you feel wronged by the lack of discount. I mean no rudeness, but I think you should reconsider WHY you need the discount so desperately more than anyone else who shops there.
What happened? Why did MENARDS discontinue their 10% military discount? Don't you support our troops?? I will never shop there again. I am also going to the press with this and I am going to see the city about a permit for piceting MENARDS!!!! What is wrong with you people.
I was shopping in Menard's in Indianapolis today and when I showed my Military ID. the cashier said that they no longer accepted a 10% Military Discount. Imagine that!! I left my merchandise at the counter and said "No Thank You" A women at the next isle said "I have a brother serving right now in Afghanistan" and she left her merchandise there at checkout also. HOME DEPOT and LOWES supports OUR TROOPS!!!! Pass this on. I WILL NEVER SHOP AT MENARDS AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! To think that I and our troops go through *** and this is the thanks WE GET!!!!??????? PISSED!
I've been shopping at the Menard's in Bellevue, Nebraska for four years. I was a faithful Menard's patron because they gave a military discount and Lowe's and Home Depot did not. Lowe's and Home Depot caught on, which was fine but we continued to shop at Mendard's because it still had lower prices. However, a couple weeks ago when I was purchasing a sheet of plywood and asked the cashier for the military discount, she informed me that Menard's no longer honors an occupation specific discount. I was blown away! What a ridiculous policy! Especially since Lowe's and Home Depot still honor our service men and women by granting them a modest discount for the service they thanklessly and voluntarily provide to the country. I have deployed 5 times in the past 3 years and every time my wife has had a home repair issue arise, which never fails to happen, I told her to go to Menard's because the associates were always helpful and we appreciated the patriotic thank you the discount offered. The Menard's in Bellevue, NE is approximately a five minute drive from Offutt Air Force Base, one of the largest military installations in the country and home to approximately 10,000 service members from all four branches. I would like someone from the Menard's corporate office to know that I'm notifying all my coworkers and fellow service men and women that Menard's no longer honors a military discount. I will also be driving past Menard's on my way to Lowe's or Home Depot for all my family's home improvement needs.
The monetary contribution of Menards toward the election of Governor Scott Walker who reprsents the interests of corporate America, NOT the interests of the citizens of this Wisconsin ... has resulted in my family choosing not to support your corporate interests. We will no longer EVER shop at another Menards store.
Sexual harrassment. I have subcontracted to the Menards store in Scottsbluff, Nebraska for 2 years and have had many sexual remarks made by employees and management that is inapropriate. My husband and I have always enjoyed shopping at Menards and now feel uncomfortable to go into the store. We think that corporate needs to step in and retrain their employees to have more respect for others or to keep their thoughts to themselves. When comments are made in front of other employees and customers it is embarrassing and is hard to know what to say. Not to mention what is being said on 2 way radios to other employees when a woman walks in the store, and who gets to help her first. Very poor Menards.
i do not recomended this store any more they are so &&&&&& they give me a rebate and noe they said that i need to get somthing from the store and they are not are gooing to giveme money
I was in the Montgomery Ill store today looking at some electrical load centers I am purchasing for a friends home. I am a union electrician with many years of experience. I mostly work in commercial but do homes to help friends out. I was stunned when I was trying to help one of Menards employee fathers. The employee had no electrical knowledge nor did his father. The employee had very little electrical training telling me I was wrong.Most Menard I have encounter have the most untrained people on staff. I reported that to the assistance manager and he could careless. Now I see why Home Depot has more sales then they ever would. Not only does Home Depot use real tradesmen with great skill levels that know what they are doing.You loose big time Menards you people at corporate need a wake up call.Or maybe this will get the same review like the manager of the store I could careless.Yes keep doing this an loose more customers.
It has been brought to my attention that Menards is continuing to support Mr. Scot Walker and his current budget policies. This is very poor decision making. The money that I will loose in my family based on these cuts to my budget will affect my decisions as a consumer. I will not support your establishment. Is this really your goal?
To Whom this may concern, I will not be shopping at Menards any more. You helped Governor Walker get into office and he is not a good man. He is going to cause my family and I to lose money. So in which case I can't afford to shop in your stores any more. I will now shop at Home Depot,this will be my hardware store from now on. I will tell all of family and friends not to shop at Menards. Thank you, Dawn Coleman 1026 Troy drive Madison, WI 53704
I have just left Menard's at Mishawaka In. I shop there much,bathroom,pond all kinds of supplies and needs.I had gone over to get a grinding disc so I brought the old broken one to compare the arbor opening. Found it. I put the old broken one in my pocket.I was confronted by a camera security person and said can I see the disc. I sad why. He said because of a green sticker. I bring in many items to compare so I return home to my projects prepared. I got in to a confrontation with me around other customers and called me a JACK ASS. I argued with him and it seems if he wasn't on duty he would want to duel it out in the parking lot. He came to me in such a motcho way that it had nothing to do with the disc. He was pushing his weight around because of a green sticker.Whether you realize this or not there are many people that do not condone this kind of behavior to customers and we all go elsewhere. Lowe's, Home Depot and the like.If I called anyone a JACK ASS in my profession I would be terminated from employment. This employee that took his job into his own hans an superseded all other company workers will cost you thousands of dollars. I will not patronize Menard's again. This is what should be published on this Blog. (Time of incident. Approxamately 11;10 am E.S.T.}
I love shopping at Menards! I love the customer service and the great prices. I attempted to read these complaints, but I could only laugh because every comment had very poor grammer and spelling. If you want to be taken seriously, WRITE IN PROPER ENGLISH!
When you order a product on an invoice there is a terms of agreement on the bottom that you accept when paying that states of how Menards can apply a restocking fee for those items. Mistakes happen and being that you're the people paying for the items you should look over what you're paying for before you walk out of the door. If you pay cash, DON'T LOSE YOUR RECEIPT IF YOU WANT TO USE YOUR WARRANTY! YOUR RECEIPT IS YOUR WARRANTY, NOT JUST THE ITEM!!!! If you pay with a check or cash they have a way that you can print off a receipt so long as it was purchased within around 2years. As for gas powered items, this is where that extended warranty that ALL cashiers offer comes in handy, you turned it down so now the service center run around is what you signed up for. You all think we're lazy, rude, and mean but when it comes down to it you people don't read what you're buying, you don't measure, you don't keep your paperwork, and then when things go wrong you point the finger the other way. Take a step out of your foggy little clouds and look around and maybe you'll see that we're not always the ones making the mistakes ALL of the time.
By reading others comments, Menards has not changed nor improved on helping a customer, standing behind products sold; I concluded that Menards Corporate buyers purchase items that are seconds, and even thirds. It is fact that Menards bought refurbished tools and then resold them as NEW. The tool manufacturer finally figured it out, and pulled their line out of Menards. Ten plus years ago was the last time I stepped foot in Menards of Mason City, Ia. Just like everyone else who comments, my final shopping at Menards was very frustrating. My wife, who was just over 7 months pregnant, was with me. Our new window finally came in. I found it myself in the pile. Employee was to help us was a no show. I found a low 4 wheel work cart. Employee was a no show. I lifted window onto cart by myself. Employee was a no show. Push toward the overhead carryout door, saw two workers standing near, except when I turned toward them for help, they scattered like cockroaches. My wife and I eventually lifted window into the back of the pickup. The star above should be a negative - minus star. Never again. Too frustrating. I go over to Fleet Farm now. Looking and shopping in Fleet Farm now more fun
I called the Watertown, SD store last Sunday, looking for a roof rake. Was told they were sold out, but 8 were on order. The clerk said I could prepay for one so I drove 40 miles to the store to do that--just to be told by a different clerk that I could not prepay for that item. She suggested I call back to see when the rakes would arrive so I called twice a day Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday--no rakes. I just called again and was told they came in today but are all sold already. The manager apologized for the incorrect information I was given on Sunday, but said there's nothing he can do to get me the rake I feel I was promised. On Sunday I was told that the Aberdeen store had 10 rakes on hand, but they can't be transferred between stores; today I was told the same thing, but the manager at least took my name and phone number "in case a rake comes in"--but they can't order one from anywhere. I usually have very good luck dealing with Menards; and always get good service in the Watertown store, not at all like some of the other comments here, so this new situation is very frustrating. I spend thousands of dollars there; but there is a Lowes only 50 miles in the other direction.

We used many items from Menards to build our house and we love your stores! We have been driving 40 miles to go to your store(s) and we, along with many in our community, would like to see one in Corunna, Michigan, in the building that housed KMart. Your timeliness is appreciated. The store would be successful in our community. Thank you.
