I have been shopping at Muncie menards for over a yr. Have spent close to 10 grand there fixing up a home. Most of the employees are helpful. But last night I encountered a very mouthy rude customer service person. Serria is her first name. I was checking out and she just hurriedly ran from checkout to checkout throwing stuff in bags. I felt like I was being thrown out. I stated I was good, meaning I will pack my own stuff up. She proceeds to take my things I just purchased and come back and throw them in bags whatever way she wanted. I told her I will do it myself, because she didn't get the message the first time. Then she got an attitude. I returned to the store again this morning and once again at checkout there she was getting ready to grab my stuff and she states in a very condescending smart mouth way. " oh you don't want me to bag your things. I responded that's right. Then she proceeded to run her mouth just to antagonize me. The cashier apologized and was clearly upset and asked who the manager was. Well this girl serria butts in saying she will get him but he never comes. I go towards the customer service and was approached by JON not too concerned that I'm upset with his employee. I was getting madder due to his lack of concern. He just wanted to quickly get me out of the store because I was getting very upset. I felt like I was the one being attacked. He did not even apologize like the cashier. I told him I want that girl to stay away from me and I told her she never needed to speak to me again.
We went to place order on shingles for our home roof with the Davison, MI store and the first time the order was placed by our builder and we went in to pay for it they said they couldn't find any order. This put us two days behind schedule and as you know weather is very crucial in roofing, My husband went ahead and placed another order and proceeded to check out with ALL of the paperwork that the man handed my husband. Apparently she(then cashier) did not scan both papers(one containing the roofing order the second the delivery charge) However, we did not know this at the time, at the time my husband paid he ASSUMED he was paying for the roofing and delivery in their entirety as he explained he was already behind schedule due to the first mix up and their was rain in the forcast. On the day the shingles were set to arrive and it neared the time they were to be at our home and they hadn't called we placed a call asking the status, at this time we were told delivery hadn't been paid for we still owed, $49.95. When we said we had the receipt and paperwork that we had indeed paid for it they said that all but delivery and been charged. We were furious at this because we again assumed that this was taken care of, also why would we not pay for it the first time when we were in the store???? They said they called us the day before ONCE (we were on roof removing shingles) but got no answer. They never bothered to call back. When we demanded a free delivery for THEIR ERROR we were told no. I explained to they would be losing alot more than $49.95 if we got a refund they told us..oh well.!!!!!!!! They also suggested that perhaps WE didn't give all the cashier the paperwork!!!! IT WAS ALL STAPLED TOGETHER BY THE CASHIER!!!!!!!! we got a refund of the $1118.89 for the roof and WILL NEVER STEP FOOT IN A MENARDS AGAIN
I work for Menards in Beaver Dam, WI and while I was working I was called up to the front end managers desk. A guest had told the manager I was texting so when I walked up to the desk the manager had patted me down for the phone but found no phone. She did this in front of guests and I felt violated and I told one of the assistant managers about it and he had done nothing. As a result of this happening 5 people quit and so am I. This store is running to the grounds and something better be done about this manager.
I bought all my bathroom remodeling and egress window supplies from Menards. Until recently, your store was going to be my store for my upstairs carpeting and continued remodeling. However, after the horrible service I received from your asst. manager (andy?) and his lack of concern and the fact that I found out that the contractor referred to me by your sales person who refused to finish his work resulting in a flood in our basement was pulled OFF YOUR REFERRAL BOARD years ago, then put back on again, I refuse to buy even as much as a piece of gum from your store. In Oct of 2010, I bought all the supplies for my egress windows from your store on rt 173 in Machesney Park, Il. Krieg Quality Construction and two others were highly recommended to me by your salesperson. I even consulted ON THE AIR WITH THE CAREY BROTHERS ON THE RADIO (they interviewed me just 2 saturdays ago again over the fiasco caused by your store and the contractor). I did not mention your store the second interview. I asked all 3 contractors the same questions: 1 suggested no permit, 1 wanted us to buy all products through him not Menards, the last one was Krieg who stated he had insurance and answered all the questions. Mr. Krieg never finished the windows. He cut out the window holes in our foundation. He did not cut the holes squarely. He broke one window three times. He even bragged to us that he told your store that he lied and said that the window was defective (I told your asst. mgr whose response was that it was too far back to look into...the last time he broke it and lied about it was just in Feb. 2011. I've been a store mgr myself in the corporate world. Since when should a manager NOT CARE that someone stole a $200+window from his store?) Mr. Krieg had bought the permit for the windows. HE NEVER CALLED THE CITY TO SAY THE WORK WAS DONE. On July 22, 2011, the westfacing egress window failed miserably. The resulting flood ruined 3/4 of our basement. Perfection restoration removed 3 rooms of carpeting, drywall, baseboards and insulation. One room alone is 20 x 15 1/2 feet and had beautiful berber carpeting. Perfection had 3 industrial sized dehumidifiers, plus multiple fans running for 3 days to dry up the mess. Advanced Window Systems graciously sealed our egress windows since Mr. Krieg never did (of course, that alone was another $300 to Advanced Window Systems). My husband with a broken foot and 2 teenage sons had to dig out the egress windows since they were level with the bottom of the windows. They found the cement Mr. Krieg cut out of our foundation buried in the westfacing window's well. We had paid Mr. Krieg to remove the cement. When I went to Menards, I overheard one of your salesmen recommending the list of contractors. Mr. Winters, your millwork manager, came to me. I told him what happened. He told me Mr. Krieg had been pulled off the board years ago. He even told me that Mr. Krieg had come into your store on 7/25/2011 and said the windows were done, passed inspection and tried to blame our landscaping. Little did Mr. Krieg know that I called Loves Park city that same day. Their inspector, John Hunt came out around 2pm on 7/25/2011. The windows failed. He wrote a note stating that the wells needed to be dug out another 18 inches to 2 feet, drainage added and the windows sealed. He lifted the window well lids to take a look on the outside. The metal well was not properly sealed. THe wells are missing the rubber gaskets. The windows are not square and our daughter's well cover will never fit properly since Mr. Krieg and his sons did not put the metal wall in correctly. Mr. Krieg advertises a sole proprietor and having insurance. According to our Illinois Representative David Winters (NOT your millwork manager who shares the same name) office, Mr. Krieg is NOT registered as a sole proprietor. I have in writing Mr. Krieg's text telling me that he will not take care of the mess from the flood (resulting from the unfinished egress window). He has broken contract when he stated he would come and finished then refused to finish them. He broke his written 2 year labor warranty when he told me that he wouldn't take care of the windows and mess. Menards miserably failed me as a customer and a member of this community when the manager only claimed that it wasn't Menards fault and they let anyone put their name up on that board. Menards failed me and my community and continues to do so when Menards does not SCREEN their referred contractors, let alone, allowing a contractor with a history of not completing work and shoddy work. I have spoken with a sales person for you and his wife. Their excuse for Menards? Well, there are just too many salespeople putting up whoever wants to put up a flier. In Illinois, only THREE types of licenses are issued besides a business license for contractors: electrical, plumbing and roofing. I expect to hear from Menards. I do not expect to hear more excuses for Menards not screening their referral boards. I do not want to hear any more flimsly excuses from an assistant manager who is more concerned with getting off the phone than helping a customer. My home phone number is 815-282-0249. I work during the day. You may leave a message or respond with an email. I do expect a response. Please, do not respond with a form letter of any kind. A little concern, even a personal touch with someone with the authority to help would suggest that Menards is the place for us to return. Jeanne Rowell

I wish I would have read these reviews before I purchased a lawnmower from Menards. I purchased the lawnmower from the Columbia, Mo. store. Before I could use it I needed to put oil and gas in it. I started it and it died, I started it again and it died. I brought it back to the store and the girl at the counter said I could not bring it back. Another girl came up to me and gave me a card where I could have it serviced. I told them I wanted to return it and get a new one. They told me I could not return it. By this point I was getting frustrated so I asked to speak to the manager. As I was waiting for the manager I told the girl behind the counter that I would never shop here again. She replied, "Your not the first customer that we have lost." I could not believe her remark!!!! The manager came and asked me what the problem was. I told him I wanted to return the lawnmower and get a new one, he told me no because I had already put gas in it. How are you to know if it will work if you don't put gas in it? He told me I could take it over to the service center and get it repaired. I told him I didn't like the way I was being treated but he felt he was treating me kindly but he wasn't he was rude and arrogant. By this time i was fuming!! Menards has the worst customer service that I have ever experienced!! I have never been in a store where they do not help the customer. The only polite one was the young gentleman that helped me put it back in the car.I think the reason I was so frustrated is because no one would help me and I was stuck with a faulty piece of equipment. I had paid cash for it so I couldn't even put a stop payment on my credit card. I took it to the service center where they were very polite. Menards told me it would take a day to get it repaired but the service center said that was their way of getting me out of the store. It took almost a week to repair. The people at the service center had nothing good to say about Menards. They have to help all of Menards unhappy customers. I will never shop at Menards again!!!!!! I have told many people this story and they won't shop their either. Clean up your act Menards!!!!
1734 E. Amelia Street Appleton, WI 54911 August 9, 2011 Menard Store #3026 Green Bay 905 Waube Lane Green Bay, WI54304 Attention Store Manager and Building Manager, I am writing to you today because I am not a happy customer. I came into your store on Friday July 15,2011 to order some metal roofing to be delivered. I brought in the exact measurements and angles of my roof and depended on you to order everything I needed. I came back on Saturday July 16, 2011 with my son-in-law to pay for it and asked again if it was everything I needed and was assured it was. It was a special order so delivery was estimated between 7-10 days, it was 12 which worked ok. I was told when it came in that it would be delivered late morning early afternoon on Saturday July 30,2011, it arrived at 6pm. I drove up to my cottage, without sleep so I wouldn't miss the delivery and it was very late afternoon. On top of that, it was raining and all of my stuff got wet. I bought OSB boards to replace the wet ones on my roof and had to put wet ones on plus my felt paper was torn. I scheduled my workers to put on the roof on Thursday August 4,2011. We proceeded to remove the old roof with no problems. Then the fun began. We realized that you only gave me enough rake and trim to do two sides but nothing for the top or bottom so I had to run into town and buy some from the lumber yard at a higher price plus I had to put white on instead of the grey that I ordered from you. I then drove all the way back to my cottage, proceeded to put the roof on. Half way thru we realized that we did not have enough long screws, you charged me for a 5# bag and 1# bag of 1 1/2" screws but sent me a 1#bag of 1 1/2" screws and a 5# bag of 1" screws so I had to go back into town for more long screws and again had to put white screws on a grey roof. This was not a good experience for me. I depended on you to know what you are doing. I am a back yard handyman that can do almost anything myself IF I am explained how to do it and given ALL of the materials that I need. I will be second guessing any furthur purchases from you, if I decide to come back for my next project which is siding my cottage. We spent over $1000.00 in one day and did not have a good experience. Thought you should know. Sincerly, Pat Krause & Family

On 6/24/11 I purchased 4 52" Brogham Ceiling fans, 2 for my home & 2 for my commercial property. I was told I would receive a $40 rebate for each fan, 2 per address. Since 2 were for my rental property at 1400 E. Warnimont, Milw., WI 53207 and the other 2 were for my residence at 7004 N. Belmont Ln, Fox Point, WI 53217, I should receive $80.00 for each address totaling $160.00. I have received only one rebate for $40.00. What is the problem with the other 3 rebates? Thank you in advance for your speedy help. Ronald Rosen
Was in Marinette, WI store to open Big Card account. Filled out app. Lady on phone wanted to verify my identification. Asked me if I lived in certain addresses in Green Bay, WI. or was associated with anyone who did. I said no (never lived in Green Bay). If I was associated with someone who lived at one of those addresses, how am I to remember. I don't remember my kids' addresses -- have to look them up every time we want to mail something. Don't remember my sister's address and she lives in same town as me. The woman was calling me a liar. She said I answered one of the questions wrong and therefore did not verify my identification. Now Menard's has my SS number, my DL number and my Capitol One credit card number. And I can't get a Big Card because I was accused of lying. If I did know someone who lived at one of those addresses, I certainly do not remember the addresses. Also, why not give one address at a time, instead of a string of them? We used to be at Menard's at least once if not twice a week. No longer will we deal with Menard's. We won't ask the kids and grandkids for Menard's gift cards this year. Too bad too, because we were going to have a 20 x 16 deck built with steps, etc.
Wow, Looks like Menards in Rockfords/Cherry Valley needs some help too. When it comes to communitcation and keeping up with orders, they are a mess. I'd like to go into detail about what has happened to me and what I am going through this minute but I just get more angry. Corporate needs to step in and be more hands on. Teach their employees about what it takes to run a successful company. I don't recommend shoppping at this location.
I have never had a less than satisfactory experience at Menards, but Coon Rapids Menards is by far one of the best. The store has been completely rebuilt in the past three years, and is better than ever. One cashier there in particular has been extremely helpful. Last time I went to Menards, I wanted to buy a lawn mower. I selected the one I wanted, but it was too heavy for me to handle on my own. As it is a very large store, there were not any hardware employees nearby, but I did happen to run into a young lady who was a cashier putting away items that were returned. I asked her if she could contact somebody to help me. She did not have a radio to call for somebody, so she offered to help me herself. Mind you, this was a teenage girl who worked as a cashier, so it was not her job to do heavy lifting, but she was very positive and acted as if she was even glad I had asked for her help. Between the two of us, we got the lawn mower onto a flatbed, and I was on my way.
On June 25th my husband went to Menards looking for a hard to find screw. When he reached the hardware department he took the screw out of his pocket to compare it with other sized screws (as he has done hundreds of times at Menards and other hardware stores). He could not find the exact size so he put the screw back in his pocket and continued to shop. After paying for his purchases he left the store and was apprehended by a security guard for shoplifting. He was told they had him on camera stealing and were going to arrest him. He tried to explain that if the camera saw him put the screw in his pocket, it should have seen him first take it out of his pocket. He showed the security guard the very old screw in his pocket. Also, why would he have paid for all of his other purchaes, but not a screw! Didn't matter. He was taken to a very small room and told to wait, no air, no seating. After over 30 minutes the guard came back and told him he checked the whole store and couldn't find that screw, so he had to let him go - he didn't even apologize. I checked and heard a store cannot accuse someone of shoplifting unless they are certain that something has shoplifted. I've also heard Menards does this alot. Do you realize how embarassing this was to my husband? I would like to hear back.
I admit I was suprised at all the bad rating I see here. Until yesterday I was an employee at Menards in Naperville for 7 years in the plumbing department. My sister lives in Texas and I only see her once a year so this year we wanted to make sure she came up on my weekend off.(We work every other weekend) I checked the calender and we made plans about 4 months ago. My mother is 87 and my brother and other sister live here so we figured a weekend all together would be good and who knows, maybe the last time we'd all be together. Then the remodel for plumbing came up. We were required to work 6 days a week but didn't find out until June when the remodel was. I told my dept manager that I would work whatever hours he needed but that I really had to have this last weekend off. I put it in our schedule book and everyone knew I would not be in(it was supposed to be my weekend off anyway). When I went to work yesterday, Monday, I worked about 4 hours and then was called in to the store managers office. He fired me for insuborination for not coming in Saturday. I already managed to get Friday and Sunday off. I've never had any verbal or written warning for not coming in because I always did go to work. I'm 62 years old and have spent 7 years there starting with stocking and learning plumbing. What a waste. The store manager (I won't give his name)is rude and abusive to the employees and acts like he owns the store. Don't think he ever liked me anyway but I don't know if he likes anyone. I'm depressed and want my job back. We try to do a good job in customer service and I think we do. If management didn't have us doing paperwork, stocking, cleaning and anything else, we could pay more attention to the guests. For now I guess I'll try to collect unemployment or social security. Had to get this off my chest. WAKE UP MENARDS

I have a concern for your customers safety. I purchased an outdoor firepit( round white concrete south western looking) a few years ago and the first time I used it the sides exploded out pieces of concrete at my company sitting around it. I have called and talked with a local manager of the Rockford, IL store and he would not give me any help except that's really weird. I asked if I could get credit for a different kind of fire pit and he refused because I do not have a receipt. If they looked up in the computer at the store they could see I purchased it in the past. I am asking that corporate consider a refund or exchange simply because this is a faulty product that some one could be injured by. It has happened three times since we had it and now I refuse to use it. I feel you are selling a faulty product and should be happy that I am complaining about it before some one really gets injured and then see how expensive it would be to Menards. I am asking kindly for your consideration. Please reply by email or mail. Carl Bufalo, 7725 LaMontee Drive Rockford, IL 61103 or kesideech@att.net or 815-8776596
On of the Menards stores in Missouri does not offer any air conditioning units for there security guard when the heat index is about 105 degrees. This is concerning to me because of heat stroke, heat exhaustion and many other factors. Yet they let there own workers go inside unless there is an order to be filled. Honestly I think they are cruel and inhumane by these practices of letting a human suffer outside for 10hrs in this heat.
I have to say that these posts are true. I am a current employee of the company, and I can agree with you in the sham. I work my ass off as a "sales associate" in hardware, moving stuff around and deciding what to do with product because corporate can't lift a finger with their million dollar paychecks. I get 9.05 an hour and I do more work than half the managers. I've seen the crummy policies and have made suggestions to the GM and Department managers, but no one listens. I give respect to the customers because I do so outside of work. But work shows its employees and me no respect. I can understand these customers' grief. I decided to take business elsewhere because of the lack of workers rights. This pretty much happened after I transfered from another store. I hear that Rapid City is high ranking and I would know why, they treat employees with respect as well as customers. Why don't you give back to your people, 5.2 Billion dollar John Menard? All and all I've only been with the company since October 27, 2010 but I have to quit and find a new job with reasonable people.
if you have a complaint at menards, this is their help desk number that is such a "secret" 715-876-2636 enjoy
order a special order deck package. were now going on day 19, when I was told 7 at the most 10. still nothing or should I say tomorrow morning at the latest, but I've been hearing that for a week. the customer service at the long grove Illinois store is pathetic at best. the record of returned phone calls is terrible, repeated false information, and lack of respect for their customers makes them a nightmare to deal with. vendors like Midwest manufacturing really shouldn't be in business, at least with menards. they make an awful team! don't worry menards won't be doing anymore business with you, I have a 35000 dollar four season room coming up but the customer wants it done this year!! sorry.
