My granddaughter was let go unjustly and threatened to sign a form or have the police called all because she opened a can of pop before paying for it! and for your 411 all the gals at the Lancaster,Ohio store watch OUT you bend over AND security Zoooms in to try to get a Peek,You know what I mean!! I will not do anymore business at menards. I survived before they came to town! back more at Carter Lumber!!!
Some of these blogs are horrific to say the least. I recently started going to menards and so far have had good relationship. I had purchased sheets of Maple plywood on a previous evening before it went off sale and chose to pick it up the next day. Upon arriving I inspected what was being loaded and it wasn't the beautiful grain I had seen the night before. I asked to go in and help choose my lumber and that wasn't a problem. The problem waos they restocked and it was sub par for my liking. I asked to refund and the showed me to the desk. Upon speaking to the cashier she got a call and asked me if I wanted it I said not what I had seen I do not. I was asked to come back to lumber so I did and the department manager had two employees go thru about 25 sheets till we found 5 that I liked and we did. I offered help reshelving the product and he said no because if I wouldn't buy the product nor would he. He wasn't gonna put it back on the shelf it looked like knotty pine to both of us with maple grain. For this effort I will shop there they didn't let me leave unhappy even if they had refunded the money I would have left unhappy I wanted the wood at that price and got it. thank you to the west wichitaMenards for caring. The problem with blogs is you only hear about the bad experiences that happen. And the do happen at all places. Most people aren't as vocal about the good as they are the bad. I would expect that for every bad experience there is at least 100 good ones. And of that 1% bad half of those are probably the pathetic whiners of the world.
Special ordered a lamanite kitchen top and the top was made incorrectly, sink center was 5" off. They had to re-order the top and was lost in the holiday orders and took forever to get replacement. I hadremoved the old top and had measured all dimensions before installation but the sink center. i had over 6 hours labor installinfg and re-installing the top. Very disapointed in Menards!!! Killed my reputation with my customer!!
Menards makes big forepaugh in weekly ad against the U.S. Postal Service......I smell a lawsuit! They put cute little x-mas sayings at bottom of each page of there flyer, like I will honor Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year. But they also printed this one " Mail your packages early so the post office can lose them in time for Christmas. They removed it from there website ad but if you still have the paper ad you can see it for yourself....
This place sells JUNK......They will not stand behind products, they will sell you items that are said to be new (appliances) , to find out that one item was a floor model, and the whirlpool washer had something stacked on top of it that created damage and the Lancaster Ohio store covered it up with plastic cardboard. The manager of this store by the name of Nick Anderson, was very rude and plainly DID NOT CARE !!!!!!! ( wasn't his money spent I guess). I will NEVER make a purchase at this or any other of their locations, even if it was the last place left to buy a gallon of milk !!!!! Just by reading the above comments, I don't need to go into further detail and I really should have came to this site before making any purchase there.
zero stars!!! I special ordered metal barn siding fron the sandusky Ohio store and it came back with the wrong dimensions. and they couldn't find all of the order. I was told they would call me when it came in NOT!!! the Building Materials Manager flubbed on that one too!!! It looks like I will be siding in the snow and you can bet every hour I will be cursing. No more I'm moving on to a company that just does the right thing.. Lowes
I purchased a simple special order for a wall plate online. Got the shipment today and what i got was a sing pull knob for a cabinet!? Now im on the hunt to figure out how to get a hold of these people with out having to e-mail them? seriously? I wont be odering from them again.
I used to shop at your Menard Stores regularly untill one day I was informed you no longer give the military veteran the 10% Discount like Lowes and Home Depot does just thought i would let you know i will pass this information along to my colleagues in addition to facebook friends. Have A Great Day.
Ankeny IA conveyer belt checkout is not working. Service is impersonal and rude. The design of your system doesnt work. Altoona IA kept with the original set up and is much more customer friendly.
I was very disappointed with my Menard's today. I purchased a 60 gal Sanborn Air compressor 2 months ago. I had a concrete slab poured and a shed built for it. Had the Wiring done so I could work on projects this winter. After less than a week of use the electric motor started kicking out and the compressor was very hot always has been since I first used it. I called Menard's customer service to make sure it was still returnable, they said that it was no problem bring it in I have 90 days no problem. So my father and I loaded the 250 pound compressor and drove the 45min one way and when I arrived the manager in that department said that it could not be returned it was only a 30 day warranty because it was a (MA) major appliance, O ya it can't be used either! How are you supposed to no if something is working without using it? And the receipt said I had until Dec 4th to return it. Me and Menard's will never have this problem again, this was the last Major appliance I will buy from them. Home depot is a block down the street. I trust and count on my Major retailer like Menard's to test and stand by the products they sell, its your job to negotiate with your manufacturers, you lost my trust and my business today!
HI John, Your stores are the best, That's why I use to sweep them in LaCrosse as a young boy. My cousin Jim worked for you for over 20 years, starting in your first store. I put my name in to get a job in Kalamazoo.Sorry I did not do a good enough job sweeping??I figured this is why I have not been hired yet. But, I did fix the Roof top units at your first bigger store when I worked for Schneider Heating. Pretty sure it was Ebder Construction that built that one. I also went up to Wausau and worked on your new stores and strip stores. Would love to talk to you again some day, but know your world is most busy. If you ever do find this add let me know how or what I have to do to get a job with one of the best. And I will show you why your the best and I am also. Clayton Harris 269-492-4470. Thanks for showing me how to be number one in what a person does!!!!
The store in Tipp city Ohio has one exemplary employee..we just know her name is Mindy. Recently moved from cashier to electrical for whatever reason was the loss for the main part store but gain for us..we finally found someoen who knows what they are doing and if she doesnt..she goes out of her way to find out> Do not like your rebate system though.
Less than 0 or a minus 100 (or more) My wife and I thought "M" was a decent store UNTIL we ordered cabinets from them. #1, one of the 14 cabinets that came in was beyond repair. Four more were damaged. Now they say that it's going to be another two weeks before the replacements come in. Having gutted our kitchen gutted and a Thanksgiving dinner planned, they could care less if we (or anyone else) have Thanksgiving or not. Now, we have to host dinner at a restaurant at five times (or more) the price of what we could fix it at home, not to mention, it would be far far better as well. John Menard, if I ever get my hands on you, you will regeret opening a store in Kansas or anywhere else!
This goes out to all of the LUNATICS commenting negatively on this page. It is your responsibility to research a product before buying it. All retail businesses have to buy the product for it to make its way to the shelf. After it finds its way to the shelf, consumers buy the product. If the product is defective, you CANNOT expect the retailer to take a full loss on said product because you were too negligent to inspect what you were spending your precious money on. About the paint comment above (not targeting you, just the situation), why would you expect Menards to pay for your negligence? It sounds to me that you were helped accordingly, bought the product that you desired, and headed on your way. WHERE in this story should menards be held accountable and be expected to compensate your lack of common sense. They even offered to give you a percentage of your money back and you "balked" at that response? Obserd! To the guy about the pressure washer (not targeting you either. once again, just the situation). The Pressure washer you bought was made by Excel, NOT Menards. You also kept the pressure washer for over a month. If you would have bought Menards Extended Protection Plan (Menards way of covering the product above and beyond MANUFACTURERS warranty), you would have had your problem resolved. However, your situation is a WARRANTY CLAIM. These, as any educated buyer would know, have to be taken up with the manufacturer, NOT THE RETAILER. P.s... I also bought an excel 2700 psi pressure washer from Menards and I LOVE IT. In short, I wish people would take the time to understand who, what, and where to place blame. Most of the time it is pointed in the direction of the retailer that is just making a manufactured product accessible to you. EXPERIENCED SHOPPER
No customer support at all. Eberything done through email. Dedicated to service and quality??? Where is the service aspect. It is a 20mi ute drive to the closest Lowes instead of the 3 mins to menards. But I guess it may well be worth the time and gas to go there. At least they are helpful.
I wish I could give a rating of zero stars. This company is ridiculous!!!!!! I painted a job MONTHS ago (thats what I do - im painter) and their own store couldnt match their own paint. Cost almost double the amount of money, double the amount of time, and not to mention the hours I spent waiting for them to try and fail over and over again. For any of you corporate fat cats that may see this I expect a response and the check I was offered by your company. My number is 708 305 8044. I also ask you to remember word of mouth can help you or it can hurt you, and this will hurt. Dont think for a second that tradesmen dont talk to each other, we work together and stick together. I knew I should have gone to Lowes, which I now go to for EVERYTHING!!!! One more thing pass this on to your marketing staff - new slogan "Lose big money at Menards"
I could go on and on with service complaints about the poor poor student and other employee service in the International Falls Minn. not one person could tell me the pirce of the doors, it took the 25 minutes to find the price, I was going to buy,a bath tub, showers stall, 2 doors, marble double bathroom sink.................and I left purchasing $15 in gyproc................WHAT A PILE OF STINK SERVICE, THIS WAS MY SECOND ATTEMPT TO PURCHASE THERE.no more thats it. I couldnt give it a minus star there was none.
We got the Menards Big Card we also signed up for the protection if you were off work. My husband was laided off and things went fine we had our payment made for us. He went back to work and was laided off again in Novermber 2010. First we were told not we didnt have that protection then I notice on our statement we had been charged for it. I have been fighting with the company for over 8 months now. We paid for it but they come up with every excuse for not paying. Missing paper work or not the right paper work a letter from his employer that he had worked for over 13 weeks full time (30 hours or more). Now we are at the will send it again and get it done fast. Well I have heard the same story now for the last 3 months. I have talked to the Menards store in Mason City Iowa and he called a rep for the credit card company and I have talked to them 2 but notice since Aug. Now what is funny the are showing no payment is due but still the have not paid on the balance. But they was charging that 19 or 20 per month for the protection. My balance doesnt change since he got laid off and they should have been making payments on it for him. He has since gone back to work and I am sure they are trying to wait me out and hope I shut up and go away. But the people in India keep hearing from me. India when people here in the US needs jobs they sent it to India. We have now bought a older home and are starting to restore it and guess what we haven't bought a thing at Menards. Now I do understand that is is not Menards who hold the Credit card but it has Menards name on it and I am holding them responseable for this mess too. So to make a long story short DO NOT GET THE BIG MENARDS CARD THEY DONT HOLD UP THEIR END OF THE DEAL.
I am a dentist in NW INDIANA, I own several rental properties and enjoy home improvement projects. I went to the VALPARAISO INDIANA MENARDS to purchase supplies for a fence/grape vine trellis. I spent $300 during that visit...my mistake. In the process, I used a tape measure ($19) off the shelf, filled my cart and forgot that the tape measure was hooked on the outside of my pants pocket as I checked out. I was stopped at the door after being followed by the overzealous loss prevention rent-a-cop for 1 1/2 hours of shopping who bluntly accused me of shoplifting. I profusely apologized and promptly returned the tape to him and explained the sequence of events. I am a 40 year old dentist who makes a very good living, I have no criminal record...ever, and I am not a thief. This was an honest mistake and I don't blame him for stopping me, but a reminder during the 1 1/2 hours of shadowing me would have done wonders for me and this store that I frequent. Instead, they have decided to prosecute, called Valparaiso PD and turned the case over to the prosecuting attorneys office...they just dropped all charges...obviously they have more common sense than MENARDS. However, I was forced to sign a paper stating that if I ever stepped into a MENARDS store again, it would be considered trespassing and that I would be arrested...I gladly signed this paper after being made a spectacle at the store and being made to feel like a criminal because I would never step in that establishment again, regardless of the paper. Just to let you, the corporate office, know...I was gathering receipts for this years taxes, and I have spent $4500 in your store alone in 2011. I am sure that you do enough business to make up for a single loss like this, however, I have not been embarrassed to share my story with everyone that I know in the community (remember, I have a dental practice with over 3500 patients in the area, I am a member of the chamber of commerce, Lions club, local and state dental associations) because anyone that knows me knows how absurd this incident is. Most of the people that I have spoken to said that they would avoid your store as well, this includes many contractors as well. I would guess that this could create several million dollars in lost revenue for you. Oh, I forgot to mention, your rent-a-cop did ask me if I was a contractor, probably wondering if they should prosecute and risk losing business. Well, they found out that I was not and chose to prosecute...bad idea over an honest mistake on my part. I easily spend $10,000 in home improvement supplies each year, and I suppose that this incident is great for home depot and lowes in the future. I will continue to tell my story, and as I found on the Internet, this is not an uncommon story, google shoplifting at MENARDS and see all of the horror stories by your past customers that parrallel this one. One good thing with my story is that the store did not try to extort $200 from me as they do with others accused of shoplifting at your store. See for yourself by searching the story online. Congratulations MENARDS, you have certainly held your low customer relations standards at par. Maybe if enough people tell their horror stories about your company, you will soon not be in business...we can only hope.
I grew up in Trempealeau WI, 20 mile from the Mernards brothers first store in LaCrosse WI. I find it humorous reading these articles, because for the most part I picture the writing of these articles most likely match up to the Pictures of the customers at Walmart sites and how they dress. You don't see a Mernards site do you of how to describe ( People dressed) The more I read, I can find a Walmart picture to go with the article. Try it you will have to agree. Then you may have to consider the source. If the people who write these articles take as much time in review and do your daily communication on your projects, you most likely will find you would never have success in owning your own business. And yes you will continue your success with having your picture back on Walmarts picture sites. One last question you will have to ask yourself is have you gone back after you wrote negatives on this site!! I think that is the Pot calling the kettle black. I wish I could be so lucky as to work for such a good firm!!! pyrametals@gmail.com
