My complaint concerns the Menards store located in West Lansing, 8505 Delta Market Drive Lansing, Michigan 48917 When I got my local Lansing newspaper today I also recieved the Menards weekly Sale insert advertising 15% off on all Backyard Creations Mix and Match cushions for outdoor patio furniture. I went to my local Menards, saw what I assumed was the original price ($33.99) above the cushions I wanted to purchase. There were no signs stating that the cushions were on sale so I asked a sales associate if these were the cushions that were 15% off as advertised in their sales flyer. He said that they were. I went through the checkout, purchasing the cushions. On my way out I decided to check my receipt and saw that I was charged the original price of $33.99, the same price that was listed right above the cushions I had purchased. I went to the customer service desk to ask about my 15% discount and was told that $33.99 was the discounted price?? Going back to the aisle where the cushions were, there were no signs indicating that the prices above any of the cushions were already discounted by 15%. Any customer would naturally assume the prices displayed were the orginal price of the cushions Before the discount. Then there is the receipt...Nowhere did it show I was given the 15% discount nor did it show the original price of the cushions prior to being given the so-called discount. When I mentioned to both of the employees working behind the customer service desk that this was deceptive to customers, I was given a sneer by the female employee and the male became a little hostile. I asked for a manager and was told no one was available so rather than waste my time and energy with these two nitwits I decided I would call or write corporate. I find it strange that just about every other item in this store that was on sale had a sign indicating the original price in addition to the sale price or rebate price. I hope this problem is just at this particular store and not a systemwide practice. I doubt I will continue to shop at this or any other Menards. Legally, Menards should have given me the 15% discount off the price indicated above the item I was purchasing and put up the proper signs indicating sale prices and original prices of the items. Since I was running late for an appointment I didn't have time to go through the process of returning the cushions so I plan on returning the items tomorrow and take my business elsewhere. I see someone else had a pricing problem at another Menards store on 3/13/2012.
Menards has vastly improved over the past few months in regard to customer service, at least at the Rhinelander, WI store. What really bothers me is people like Midwest Pet Lover. Pet owners who are so self absorbed with themselves and their pets need to get a grip on the realities of respecting other people. Allowing animals in stores is not only a health issue, it is also a safety issue. Dogs do things like walking in their own urine, vomit at unexpected times, etc. Dogs do not belong in stores. Learn to respect people more than your pet. Do some self-analysis and discover why you have this "need" to assert your "right" to take your dog wherever you go, and get over it.
Just visited my local Menards and was asked to leave as I had my pet with me. One of the store employees said that due to there being food in the store he could not allow it. For the record, I was not in the food area and secondly; I wasn't aware that they had any open food in the store. I believe all of it is in a package or sealed in some sort of manner. How was I going to contaminate it. I would never take my pet in a restaurant or place where food was being served. Nor would I take her anywhere where there was a sign at the entrance indicating "No Pets Allowed." I had my vaccination tags and she was on a leash. and mostly in my arms the whole time. I was greeted by nearly everyone who saw her with a smile and a warm reception. I have never had anything but positive feedback when I've taken her in public. Needless to say I was embarrassed and the management should save their customers embarrassment by posting on their doors that NO PETS ALLOWED. I still would like to see what law or policy in writing that I broke. An end to an otherwise beautiful day that apparently on one person had in objection. How about humans that come in hacking a sneezing?????? Do you throw them out? You know there is food in the building??????
I really like Menards, but they really need to change a policy. I've often asked for a store employee to point to where I could find this or that... I've actually had to say it a couple of times and they still insist on walking to the item... at breakneck speed I might add, regardless of what awkward thing is on your cart that you are trying to manuver through the isles. Also, I generally want to spend some time in the area looking over the products. The last time I was in I was buying plaster, the guy was so helpful that he couldn't find what I needed so he ran me down to a building guy. That guy after telling me there was "no such product" (one I found at the next store) plunked a wire mesh that hung over the cart on top of my cart, so I left without buying 6 things on my list and promptly went to another building store where I could spend time looking over my options. I felt rushed and a bit taken aback that the building guy didn't have the humility to say "we don't carry it" or "gosh I'm unaware of that product". Instead he said "there is no such thing" and I felt a bit foolish. I get the policy about walking (running) folks to an area. But if they ask nicely three time... could you just please point. You win and so do I. This has happened before, although Menards is in my home town, I'm thinking the trip to the Home Depot may be much less frustrating. I really want to support my local store, a lot of my neighbors work there. I don't like having to leave comments on the site, it is easy for you but a phone call would have been easier for me... your customer.
Work at a store just outside of Chicago as an early A.M. stock person. As stores go, I think ours is a pretty good one. I have a couple of criticisms though: 1) the computer system is an antique and doesn't do the job it's supposed to; i.e., it orders tons of stuff nobody buys and hardly enough of the things that sell. They have stock people doing everyone's job (receiving & mostly guest services. There aren't enough sales people per department to assist guests so stock people who stay to work extra hours stocking the shelves spend most of their time assisting guests. And second, corporate couldn't negotiate with "Scott's" brand of lawn care, so now they are pulling all Scott's and Ortho brand lawn care products and pest control from the shelves. No amount of fast talk is going to convince people that Medard's brand is the same stuff in a different package. Once a guest discovers we don't sell Scott's brand fertilizer, they leave their cart and the store and go elsewhere. If they start buying their lawn care at the other home improvement stores, they will shortly begin to buy everything else at another store too. Brand loyalty is alive and well. Scott's has done an excellent job marketing their products to consumers and brainwashing them into thinking they must use Scott's brand. Menards gives a lot of people here in the Midwest jobs when the rest of the country is laying people off. I'm fearful that this will start a down turn for the company. And to the lady who went in the dirty bathrooms I can say only this: never complain to a cashier, all they can do is tell a store manager. Menards hires people to clean their bathrooms/stores on contract. Next time, complain to someone who has the authority to do something about it. It's not that this cashier doesn't care--it's that after hours of hearing people complain about one thing or another, she probably feels helpless to handle all the complaints. Also if you have a gripe about a store, write or call corporate headquarters in Eau Claire, WI. Often times even the store managers can't change a situation--not that they won't, they can't. So complain to someone with the authority to make changes.
Long story short, the carpet manager at Kenosha store, I believe name was Eric, sorry if I get that wrong, was the kindest, nicest cleark I have ever had anywhere. He went out of his way to serve me, I needed one carpet runner that I had purchased a few days before shortened, and I needed to buy an additional length of runner at an odd length. Plus he put up with my two bit humor. Wonderful employee, wonderful service. No wonder he is the manager, hope company recognizes him with pay and promotions.
We purchased 28pcs of Certainteed brand drywall from your store in Johnson Creek, WI. We also paid you to deliver it. First every single pc was warped. Unfortunately our carpenter had installed 16pcs before we saw how badly warped they were. Additionally most pcs had gouges or damaged facing either from rough handling in delivery to us or damaged before they were delivered. We complained to the store manager who sent out 16pcs and returned 16pcs that we hadn't installed yet. He also refunded the delivery charge. To make things worse one of the replacment pcs deilvered was also warped and you had to return that pc as well. I am disappointed that you don't check product before it is delivered, even after what had happened. Now I am faced with paying my carpenter to repair the mismatched edges and it will look like crap when he tries to repair them. I am not happy and want to return all of the pcs installed and get all of my money back including the labor I paid to my carpenter. We have done business with you for years and I can not believe you would be selling such an inferior brand and fail to see such obvious flaws before it was delivered. Days later and still no response from our complaint.
I went to Millwork department in Hanover Park (60133) buy a door that i have seen on display for $286 price tag and description. when costumer service Greg pulled the door on screen of his computer the price was $459.74. When finally the manager Allen Silbernagel came to explain this price difference he said that is the price for different door because of the code. like i should know the codes and if it is placed on the door high up that it might not be the correct price!!!! The manager was not taking responsibility of any kind for this wrong price, he just explained the same think over and over again, that is the different door not the one that the price tag is placed on. I took a pictures and i plant to contact better businness buerou with this illegal deceptive practice. As a manager Allen Silbernagel is just useless and he didn't make me feel that he want to fix his mistake and he did not apologized in any way....i will never shop in Menards
This one store in Red Wing Minnesota I keep hearing of their Human Resources or HR person and and a female assistante manager in the registers or front, the way I see it as harrasment towards another female worker who is 57 years old and is just trying to work and make somewhat of a living. If someone from the head office does not take care of this situation and do something about this HR person and the female assistant manager.... what do you the people think should be done.
i was at a bar last year a guy named andy the manager at menards was argueing with me about there lumber. about a week later i went to menards at st croix falls he say me there and then he terminated me from the store. why because this andy guy could not handle his alcohol but hes the manager at menards and he can termate me for this that never even happened at menards.any one wishes to contact me 651 491 5944 this same guy was also charged with a sexaul assault on a minor child i have found out if you look him up he is a sex offender but he works at menards in our communty . andy dont be mad at me i didnt sexaully assault a child you did so i called you a chomo in a bar and you kicked me out of menards well i called you it again you child melester.
Ordered kitchen cabinets from Menards in Hanover Park, IL from the Manager in January 2012 - what a mistake - he messed up the first order - we were in there the minute the order got delivered and we found the errors. We had to go in person every day for a week until they finally reordered the cabinets that were not correctly ordered. We were told they would put a rush on it and that it would be 10 - 12 business days. Well that turned into 4 weeks. And when my order finally did arrive they never called me, I just happened to be in the store and asked them to check the status and was told it was already in - but somehow NO One bothered to let me know it was in!!! I paid extra for solid wood cabinets and most came in solid wood but some came pressed wood. When I complained I was told that Menards did not know that Schrock had some pieces that were not available in solid wood - but they took my money for the upgrade, and when I asked for a refund Since they weren't solid wood like I paid for) I was treated like an inconsiderate customer for even asking (it was for almost 100.00) why would I not ask for the difference, I didn't get what I paid for. The manager in the appliance department is too incompetent to be taking orders. Instead of apologizing for his error he blamed me, the customer. Like I know how to order their products etc. He had the book He should have known what the company does and does not have available as upgrades. The second time the order was wrong, he again blamed me and then the 3rd time he tried to blame me but I went through the store manager and complained that it was not the manufactures error it was the department manager that continued to do the order incorrectly!!! And all I got was there is nothing we can do about it as we don't make much money on cabinets (like that is not a lie) so we can't give you a credit for all the problems. Menards needs to train their employees how to take orders and when they make a mistake, admit it and correct it properly the first time so it doesn't take 2 months to get an order correct (I am still waiting for mine to be done correctly!!!) Won't recommend Menards to anyone - especially for kitchen cabinets!!! My contractor has been to my house 2 times to install the cabinets and had to reschedule because of the ordering errors again!!! They want your business but treat you like crap - I will take my business to Home Depot - they atleast treat you fairly!!!
Im so sick of merards so many times I have found the stuff I have bought there to be junk and I have several friends that agree. I just bought a set of 2 way radios there I live 1 hour from the store I get them home they had been cut open and returned. I was upset that they would put these back on there shelf but still thinking positive I charged them for 15 hr. and they didnt work thats why they were returned. So I had to drive another 1 to take them back and another 1 to get back home I'm done this time I will find it much cheaper to shop in my home town. and at the store they could have cared less in Jackson Mi.Last time on my cieling fan I had a election install it and the globe was broke I had to drive 2 hr. which would be a 4hr. trip to a store in another town to get this one corrected. This gets expensive with gas almost 4dallors a gal. I cant afford this cheap store anymore and you better think about it to. Ken Duncan Hillsdale Mi.
I have always loved shopping at Menard's, but yesterday we shopped at the large Menard's in Galesburg, IL. I am so glad that my husband and I had went to the store together, because we could have never handled it with just one of us there. We had two carts full of materials, and we not only had to unload the carts, but also sack everything ourselves. There is no way we could have done this by ourselves. We couldn't hardly keep up! The stuff was coming through to be bagged quicker than we could get it in the sacks, and then we had to hurry and get it paid for before the next customer could get his cart emptied! Way too much stress!!! We did all the work, and the checker just stood there! Hope the new Menard's in Moline is not like this! We don't mind helping out, but this is too crazy! I like a little customer service when I shop! Even Aldi's has a counter you can take your purchases to when you are ready to bag! If you buy a lot, you better take someone with to help, or you will get bogged down at the check out counter!
We bought shingles from Menards, with a 25 yr warranty, and was told they would last at least 30 yr. After a few yr, the shingles started to curl. We sent a letter to Menards, and told to deal with IKO, who after many letters and sending 10 shingles, with many photos, they would only prorate the shingles, and give us $536.00. We had paid Menards over $1200.00 for shingles and supplies, not counting the contractors fee and our hard labor. We asked Menards to help, and they responded several times with no. We also asked why we should return to Menards, and no response. If they would have at least offered a discount to return, we might have returned for the new shingles. Instead, we have spent over $30,000.00 in the past 6 yr on house improvements, including a new garage, steel shingle/shakes, with not a single item from Menards. We also tell everyone we know, how we were treated, and to be aware that Menards sells products, take your money, and do not want to help when there is a problem. Count us as a family to never return to Menards.
I have experienced bad guest service as much as the next person, but I think people need to learn to spell before they post these comments. It kills your credibility. As a consumer I can't tell whether to trust your comments or dismiss them. One Menards manager was nice enough to show me two books of records they keep in their back office. One of them contains good guest comments, and one of them contains bad guest comments. There are at least twice as many good comments as bad comments. Everyone is going to have their own expectations of what entails good guest service, what we need to realize as consumers is we come from a different frame of reference as the retailer. It's our responsibility to act as responsible consumers and not expect good guest service, but realize we are privileged to have a capitalist system that keeps prices competitive and low. It's unfair to dismiss a company because of one store, or one person. Menards continues to grow which shows they obviously reach out to people in some way. If you work with them then they will work with you. I have had good and bad guest service experiences. If you have an issue as to talk to the general manager. They will have you file a complaint and trust they value your feedback. I am very committed to my hometown Menards, and I have seen how their personnel has changed over the past couple of years. The employees who I thought were disrespectful no longer work there. Just remember every company values the consumer and hates to see them lost. Giving bad reviews isn't the way to make your life easier. Work with the managers to resolve issues in a civil way. Raising your voices won't help.
My son worked for Menards and from what he told me they need new people to run that store. I like to know where the heck some lady who runs the front end has the nerve to tell my son that is why she doesn't have kids well lady let me tell you. Maybe some man wouldn't want to have a kid with you because your such a *****. And that is no way to talk to your staff. Someone like that needs to be fired. My son got fired because some boy there said he put snow on his car but couldn't prove he did it. Well that is a he said she said and why don't you fire that other kid too as well. And as far as calling cooperate and complaining they are useless too. They said because this manager has been there for so long he is untouchable to do anything to REALLY I will never shop at Menards again I rather pay more money then shop there. They treat there employees bad and with no respect. Just because you have teenagers working there doesn't mean you can crap all over them.
Does anyone know how to become a service provider at Menards? We offer Fire Protection inspection/repairs in WI. Is each store independent or do you contactor corporate? Any inside info would be appreciated.
worked at the shelby ia location today on 01/25/2012. i was put on the line to do line work with boxes and putting the on canvarer belt. the manager craig shroder down there yelled at me and said work faster. so i did . then an hour later he comes back and says you aint working fast enough and just goes to the boxes and throws them fast and hard on to the convarer belt system he then yells LIKE THIS THIS FAST ! what you cant work this fast and says you do it faster or you can go home so i choose to head home today so there would be no issue anymore today... menards has got to do something with this guy!!!! tried to call corporate and no dial tone...
You people are just dumb!!!! You go the store expecting to get something for nothing!! I worked there 7 years and that is what I have notices. The people that complain the most are the people that don't get discounts or returns done the way they want to. Give the people that work there an F-ING brake. They have done NOTHING to you they are just fallowing corperate rules. Would you really want someone to come to where you work and yell at you because your doing your job!!! You guys should just think before you go in and yell at someone for your mistake!!!!!
I wish people would get their priorities straight and think for a second! As a cashier I wouls like to defend all of us pee-ons from some of these ravenous wolf-like comments. First of all to whoever was complaining about the bathrooms, the cashiers are not allowed to move from the registers. We can ding a bell and flash our light and when someone finally makes it over, we can tell them. We are litterally pee-ons we can't do anything about anything. And yes, person complaining about the military discount, we should have them, but dont put "the employees get a discount" on there. ya we get 10 percent off of our items and it has to be from the paycheck that hasnt been issued to us yet AND it can only be 70 percent of your check.so basically to get a discount we have to spend money as we make it, but don't get to spend it all so we don't get disounts on anything thats expensive in the store. Also about the dog, ya people are allergic to dogs. how about we add that one to the list. I also have people come up to the register and get angry when I don't know where something is at. I'm sorry, Im not allowed to leave my register, I don't know where everything is because i'm never in the other part of the store. Don't yell at me and call me stupid just because I say "I can get someone over here who knows what you are looking for and can help you". I stand on that concrete floor all day, am usually scheduled 7 hours, with 2 ten minute breaks, and when I close they won't let me clock out until everything is done, essentially I stand on those conrete floors for 8 hours, with only two 10 minute breaks. Im not allowed to make any decisions, I can't do returns at my register, and I can't ring things up as you shop and continually bring me more items and say add this to my total so you know how much your spending. I also get yelled at when we have people who don't understand why I can't give them a mail in rebate in the store, because I have to ask if they have a big card,or because I can't give them cash from off their gift card or in-store credit from a non-receipt return, I even got yelled at because I WAS STANDING ON THE CONCRETE WITHOUT A MAT. Don't you think I would love a mat? Dont yell at me about OSHA regulations, go yell at corporate. It's not fair that I have to deal with this, or any of us pee-ons do, its not our fault. So this is for all of us pee-ons that get yelled at ALL the time!
