The location I am a member used to be a solely owned gym in Chicago which was then purchased by Bally's which is great because of the locations however it was recently transitioned to LA Fitness. There is a section of the gym which has been surrounded in yellow tape for two weeks because of a flood which does not look promising as far as being fixed. As far as the amenities, the whirl pool is either broken, under repair, or cold. The pool is regularly under mainteance. I am fully aware of the processes which take place as management transitions or ownership is new, however, if the equipment is broken on a regular basis and the members are not able use the equipment, there are two choices; become unhealthy and stop exercising or, join another facility. It is not a good idea for anyone to let their health slide because the management at a facility is coming unglued.

Letter to LA Fitness Corporate I have been a faithful member of your facility located at 1860 Duluth Hwy, Lawrenceville GA for over five years now. I recently returned from maternity leave and resumed my usual 5am workouts at this facility. Since January 9th, 2012 I began to notice that the staffer for the early morning shift, would open the doors at about 4:52am to allow early arrivers to enter the facility. I also noticed that none of these folks ever scanned their keys or did she ask them to. So I figured since they aren’t doing it, there must be a change in policy since I’d been away for almost seven months. On the morning of Wednesday February 29, 2012, I entered the facility at bout 4:55am and proceeded to begin my workout. The staffer approached me and asked that she scan my key. I gave her the key (I have no problem doing this) and also asked her why I was being asked to when none of the other folks had their keys scanned. She replied that and I quote “oh I chit chat with them so I know them”. This statement did not settle well with me so after completing my workout around 6:15 am; I approached the staffer to understand what she told me earlier. First I asked for her name. Then I asked her why she had to scan my key when none of the other folks who all come in at 5am got their key scanned. She of course took a defensive tone and said she’d checked with her facility manager who said it was OK to not scan the keys of folks she knew. So my next question was how did she know that someone has been faithfully paying their monthly dues and if they know she doesn’t scan keys, they could potentially just come early to avoid paying dues. She replied that she has a system of checking folks in so I shouldn’t--- and I quote “make a mountain out of a mole hill”. I told her I wasn’t making a mountain out of a mole hill and it was simply a matter of fair treatment and not discriminating against me because I didn’t chit chat with her. I also asked her what the company policy was regarding scanning of keys which she fumbled to find an answer and eventually brushed me off as she walked towards to front door. She opened the front door and amidst mumblings from her opened the door gesturing that I leave. I found that very disrespectful and inconsiderate of the fact that I was trying to have a conversation and gain a better understanding of her logic for her actions that morning. I told her I was a paying member, who hasn’t posed a threat to her so she shouldn’t dare ask me to leave when I wasn’t ready to. She returns to her desk and tells me she’s a 53 YEAR old woman and isn’t going to entertain such inquiries. Also, she told me she’d open the doors at 5am for me implying that folks who come in at 4:52am will be permitted to enter the facility but just as she had unfairly treated me that morning, she would allow me to enter at 5am. I simply told her God bless her 53 year old self and that I don’t mind coming in at 5am as I had been doing in the past. Why do I write to you? Well, any corporation/business knows that customer service is vital to its success, and yes since 1984 the club house has been in existent and growing but what are your customers really saying? And are these concerns being addressed or ignored? If Rev. Martin Luther King hadn’t made mountains out of mole hills, would there be the Civil Rights Act or Title VII? If Nelson Mandela hadn’t made mountains out of mole hills, would there be freedom for South Africans? If JFK hadn’t made mountains out of mole hills would minorities in this country have the voice and the freedom we so enjoy today? At the end of the day, it takes people pointing out others mistakes, unfair treatment and discriminatory actions for change to occur. Of course change is perception and so your business might deem it OK for each facility to operate differently but in the eyes of the customer, such changes often create issues. What the staffer did and said was in no way representative of the LA Fitness I have known for five years; and if such actions are permitted by facility managers and corporate executives, I’m not sure what to think of the club now, and where my membership will stand in the future. If the facility is opened at 4:52am to allow early arrivers to enter, then from when the staffer opens that door, to when we all enter, we all should be given the same treatment irrespective of whether we chit chat or not. Also, irrespective of whether she is 53 years or 25 years, when a customer is in need of clarifications, it is good customer service practice to listen and not argue, or gesture for that customer to leave OR threaten them with prevention from entering the facility till after 5am. Such actions and attitude is utterly despicable for a staffer which I hope will be addressed. But them again, as I said in the beginning of my letter, the business can choose to ignore customer concerns and or choose to address them. At the end of the day, it’s up to us the customers to evaluate our relationship with the business and conclude as necessary. I wish the staffer, 53 years old all the best and hope no other customer is treated the way I was. It is sad when folks treat others unfairly or discriminate against others but expect to be treated with dignity and respect in return.

I joined LA Fitness in July in Studio City, after having major abdominal surgery. I bought 28 training sessions, paying most of the money up front, with two additional payments. I have now been charged for 66 sessions and almost $2000.00 extra. When I brought this up to the girl at the front desk, I was told to wait and was shuffled around to three people. Finally a young woman by the name of Yeva Mambreyan sat with me and told me I wasn't going to get my money back and that it was my own fault. (She said this with an actual smile on her face.) I explained that I only had to make two payments and that is all I agreed to. She then proceeded to tell me that she's the only one in charge and again it's my own fault. Shame on you LA Fitness. 2000.00 dollars is a lot of money that you are trying to fraudulently squeeze out of a customer.

hi ive been treated so unlawfully and rude by LA fitness... i was called by a trainer and asked to come in he noticed i signed up and only attended the gym once...he was so cool so i went in...we worked ut for an hour...he offered me a plan for training sessions..it was the last day...i said yes ill take it..he informed me of the cost, had me fill out a profile and goal sheet....i went home that night he bugged me for payment...i said hey, we are workin out tomorrow right he said yes but i really need your payment tonight to hold the plan i said i have half on my credit card...i will allow u to use it one time only....i went back we worked out twice more...he finally mentioned he wasnt a trainer at all and i will have to chose one...i was like u offered me free training sessions as well...so why r u just telling me now...i went home and thought about it..i changed my mind, i dont want the sessions...i called in and cancelled...i was told my money will be back on my card. however it never happened then they forwarded my credit card company a contract without my signature saying i signed up over the phone..i was like these creeps when i was in the gym initially he nevered had a contract present when i filled out the goal sheets and all that, or the other two times. This is some B.S. i was like no way i will sign up to pay 240$ a month for sessions for one year. he never one mentioned a one year contract. then he tried to hit my credit card for another payment after i told him not too.

I have been a member of your club since 2002. At initiation I paid $199 down plus my first and last month of $42.45. Over the past few years I have not visited the gym very often if at all due to various reasons. I have continued to pay my membership regardless. My husband was interested in joining my plan with me in order to get us both active again. We visited the new club in Coral Springs off Coral Ridge Drive. I was hoping to lower my monthly fees since so many of my friends pay significantly less than I do for the same membership. When we walked in we were greeted by “Jay” the sales person. I explained my situation and asked him what options I/we had. Jay mentioned that I have a premium membership which allows me to visit ANY gym and use the raquetball courts to which I explained I do not play raquetball nor do I visit various gyms. I asked if he can just remove that from my membership. He said that those features hold no individual value, that was how my membership was created. He refused to hear anything I had to say and simply said that he can not do anything about how much I pay unless I want to “buy down” my membership. Basically suggesting I pay $99 now to lower my monthly payment to $29 a month. With my “buy down” they would remove the “premium” status and raquetball court features (you know, the features that have no value and that I will be PAYING YOU $99 to remove!) So I need to pay the difference for the next 8 months in advance in order to reduce my payments 13 a month and remove features that have no value? Great option for a 10 year loyal member. We then focused on my husbands options. He gave him these options: Pay $90 down and $27 a month if added to my plan. This would bring my monthly fees to $69 + tax a month. (He did mention this is saving ME money) Start a new membership and pay $199 down and $29 a month (Still less than your 10 year member) Pay $439 up front for the year and renew every year after for $248 a year (a savings of $65 the first year over a 10 year member and $252 less a year every year after!) Pay $617 up front for 2 year membership and $248 a year every year after (a savings of $391 the first 2 years and $252 every year after!) Finally, start an entirely new family membership where we would pay $199 down and $54 a month for both of us. He can not however offer this plan to us NOW because I have been a member for 10 years. I was amazed to see how much better a potential new member was treated as opposed to a long time customer. When I asked to cancel my membership he did so begrudgingly, handed me a print out and very condescendingly pointed out where I should place a stamp and place my return address as if I was not intelligent enough to figure that out. He was also quick to refer us to a new gym that will be opening, “you should check out the new gym opening in Coral Springs, its only $10 a month, why don't you check it out and see what kind of people go there” he said. Jay was rude and condescending at best and showed no interest in helping us find a solution. If I have been paying $42 a month for the past 10 years I would have continued to do so if I felt he had at least made an effort to find us a more economical option. If this is the way you treat your long time members I want no part of it. Please consider this my formal cancellation since you can not cancel on site (another way to squeeze one more month out of your members). I hope other members do not have to deal with the customer service we dealt with tonight.

I have been a member of La Fitnes 19 years. I used to go to the gym on lake and cordova in pasadena california. Iwalked in the gym the other day and it was in the worst condition I have eveer seen. The gym is always dirty but this day hazmat should have been called.I went in to the locker room were there was paper towels on the floor hair in the sink and showers and the toilets were over flowing with human waist(SH_T) disgusting! I went in to the steam room and someone had droped orange peals on the floor. I know people are filthy but when I informed the front desk of the coditions they laughed and sent no one in to correcte the matter.I know the kids at the front desk arent paid well here, but corporate is.There is no excuse for these abhorable conditions. I am now at the gym in Arcadia this is a 10 star gym clean opened late good free parking and nice friendly front desk.keep up the good work. PLEASE

I have only been to 2 locations for LA fitness- the 2nd only in hopes that they couldn't have been as bad as my first experience. To the extent that the 2 locations I visited are representative of the corporate offices I can tell you that these people are unscrupulous and extremely unpleasant I am not the type who has trouble getting along with people in either a business or personal setting. They were unbelievably rude and when they realized their "strongarm" techniques were not going to be effective, they became increasingly worse. At one location I happened to mention my experience to long time residents of the neighborhood who validated and confirmed my experience. My conversation was soft spoken and limited to inquiring about possible membership - how can something like that evoke uncontrolled hostility on the part of the 2 employees with whom I had contact most recently. Subsequently I have heard several stories from people who have had similar untoward experiences - some apparently worse than mine. My suggestion - if they offer you the gym membership at no charge - don't accept it and go elsewhere - anywhere else!!!! The "relationship" will inevitably end badly. I most often write complimentary messages regarding my experiences with a wide variety of businesse - so writing this negative comment is difficult. However I would feel remiss if I didn't warn people. If anyone feels they need confirmation, simply show up at an LA fitness ( probably any location - I assume the 2 I visited were representative)

I am an orthopedic surgeon. Recently I took care of a patient who had signed up with LA fitness a short time prior to his injury. He had a lower extremity fracture associated with massive contusions to thigh and lower leg. He was to be nonweightbearing for about 3months. He had a provision in his agreement with LA fitness that his membership would be put on hold with physician documentation. Certainly his injuries were legitimate and I provided the letter outlining the nature of his problems and the anticipated down time. He was given nothing but the run around and what sounded like double talk. Bottom line - LA Fitness was totally unwilling to grant him any concessions. They apparently are quite willing to take a customer's money but are unwilling to provide much in return. Their MO seems to be (based on corroborating stories from other patients) that they specialize in taking money in but are reluctant to provide proper services or fulfill their end of the bargain. Based on the stories I have heard over the years from several patients, giving any money at all to LA Fitness should be considered a donation for which you will receive little other than rude and unethical behaviour. If you are looking for a well-equipped well maintained clean gym and ancillary facilities you should definitely look elsewhere. CAVEAT EMPTOR

I belong to La fitness in North Hills, PA. Trying to cancel online due to relocation to other side of city where there is no LA fitness close by. The site of course says "Be environmentally conscious and make payments online" But of course they will not accept cancelations online because like a lot of folks have mentioned above that they will charge for another month or week. What kind of crap is that! Environmentally conscious my a....! The Duncan Ave. Gym in the North hills of Pittsburgh is consistently a mess outdoors trash everywhere. Inside most of the water fountains are broken for months now and this causes stress to the members when everyone is crowding in on one or two fountains in the entire gym. This is a busy place and the money they pull in is amazing but they cant fix the issues in a timely manner?? Your kidding me. Its been at least three months the fountains do not work by the basketball court. Also I had to start bringing my own soap into the gym because every damn dispenser in the Men's bathroom is always empty and also out in the gym they are empty. All I see that staff doing is worrying about making another sale etc. I know how it works there. I have had family work for the company in the Monroeville location and I know that all they care about is sales. Well most of time they are walking around acting like they are important in which every damn soap is empty and the paper towels are always empty and the lockers are always dirty and the fountains are broke and are a danger to peoples hands. So dealing with the bad experience I can add one more thing. Machine's stay in the out of order phase for weeks on end which is nuts because the place has lots of money and they can afford to fix the darn machines within the same day or couple days. So, Now I have to cancel my membership but have to mail stuff across the USA because the internet is not good enough. They are just trying to pull just a couple more bucks out of us. Scammers. Cancel my membership now with out me having to mail stuff around the globe and to drive to post offices, etc. Dont have time for that shit and if your Environmentally friendly then fix your fountains from pouring constantly and allow folks to cancel online.

Here's my nightmare with L.A. Fitness; I just joined last week, went in for the 1 hour assessment session, which turns out to be nothing more than 20 minutes of them trying to sell you a personal trainer and some minimal workout. I most incorrectly assumed that this employee/salesperson/"personal trainer" knew what he was doing and would be sure that I didnt' get injured, specially during this so called assessment. He asked me what physical problems I had and seemed to be writing it down on my paperwork. I have bone on bone osteoarthritis of the knee and am very restricted from most machines that put pressure on the knee. This "knowledgeable" trainer had me get up on the elliptical machine for about 6 minutes for a medium exertion workout. I thought that "oh these guys know all about the human body and muscles and what to do and not to do". WRONG, I was in a good amount of pain for 3 days afterward and taking high doses of ibuprofen every 4 hours due to the pain in my osteoarthritic knee. After I called his so called manager to tell this incident, she didn't seem to care or respond in any way that showed that she had any customer relations experience whatsoever. No apologies, no compensation, and excuses for her trainer. I'm pursuing this further to the top of corporate. That should be interesting to see if, when , or what might get done at all.

I have been trying for the last two months to get a refund for my training through any means possible, including providing a medical letter... L.A.fitness on Argyle Ave. in Hollywood has given me the run around and no answers that are suitable. The operations manager and the general manager apparently are yes people to the corporate offices who keep everyone at bay. It is the worst bureaucratic b.s. I've witnessed in a very long time. Finally, while confronting one of the people, they got an address and instructions as to how to find out how to refund me approximately 1800... but the time , my time, is costly and the aggravation is maximum. i don't know who is worse, Bally or L.A. Fitness...

when did the "Pro" Results staff felt it was a good idea to take personal pix/video of gym patrons on their own personal iphones? yep true story happened to me last week. I was training w/my sis-in-law as a favor to her & my wife at their pottstown loca & got approached by some goon about private training sessions we were doing iside their personal training studio. there's no signs about that but if it's their room they should have better signage & keep lights closed to the general public. but even after assuring the clown TWICE we were family he chose to not believe me. not sure what that says about his ethic but my word is honest. he left, I finished working out w/my in-law & next thing I see if the bozo shooting a pic/video. last I checked that's illegal since it's not to my consent nor did he tell me what he was doing w/it. I've already shot complaints to mgt & corporate but I'm planning to go further. I could've cared less but he snapped the pix w/a female present. If I locate that pic I'm gonna stick a personal lawsuit on this clown for stalking, invasion of privacy, intimidation, racism (did I mention I was in a biracial marriage), & sexual harrasment since it was on his personal phone.

The recently opened facility in White Marsh, Md is a complete cluster. They immediately removed the turnstile previoiusly used to keep out non-members. Anyone and everyone could walk in, work out, shower, break into lockers.....this HAS happened. You are then requested to renew your membership.....without a copy of the the contract! The locker rooms are disgusting; you could almost trip over the dust balls on the track and now they have turned this joint into a disco! The music was so loud that people could not walk around the track (that is where the music was set up). The decible level was far above 130 -- the average pail level. Though MANY complained...it apparantly fell on deaf ears as they are planning yet another disco night on February 29. And WHAT is up with your L.A. Fitness "mascot" who struts aound in stiletto boots (totally inappropriate for a gym) and Spandex pants belching out orders far louder than necessary! My hope is that you take care of these issues, my guess is...it won't happen. And, by the way....that facility does not even merit one star.

I have been going to the Pines and 184 location for two years now and that location has declined rapidly. I always receive smiles from the trainers and staff, that area I can't complain but the machines are constantly broken and need to be replaced. The cleaning crew are great and such sweet individuals. Now....I started going to the Hialeah location to workout with ffamily, the workers don't even know the GM's name and I constantly have issues with the cleaning woman kicking us out of the spin room to clean, whenever it suits her and tonight told me, "Too bad, you have to leave." GM called me, "Dude" and I was outta there.

poor customer service here dallas texas kurt is the regional manager and he will not return my calls I have some bodies from corporate get this message

I thought any change from Bally's would be an improvement. Not so. No hot water at the sinks. No soap or shampoo or conditioner in any of the shower stalls. Cold air in the pool area. Yikes!

LA fitness has the illiterate trainers and employees i've ever met. They just want your money and after that you are on your own. They are shit heads! suckers and lousy people.

I have been a LA fitness member for more than 10 years. Because I am too busy or too lazy, I don’t go to LA Fitness often, sometimes only a couple times per year. To encourage me to excise more, my wife decided to enroll also. Since the one I go is pretty far from my home but very close to my work place and there is another LA Fitness near my home that will be convenient for my wife to go, so when my wife got enrolled, we told LA Fitness she wanted to be able to go to both. The man in LA Fitness was so “nice” and told us she could go to any LA Fitness. We were very happy and since then my wife went to the one close to my house for 6 month. Yesterday, when she went to the same LA Fitness again she was told her membership type did not allow her to go there. She was shocked. When we contacted the man who enrolled her to LA Fitness , the man said he remembers my wife’s member is “single club” (what a good memory!). I said if my wife can only go to one LA Fitness, she wouldn’t join LA Fitness at the beginning and you told us face to face that she can go to any LA Fitness. The lesson we learn is we trusted him too much since he was so nice, so we did not double check the paper work. I asked to talk to his supervisor but he refused first. Later he said he is supervisor. I said you must have someone above you and finally he gave me a name but he said that person is busy and he will ask him to call me back. As you can image, nobody called me back. I called that LA Fitness again to ask the “supervisor”, they also told me he was busy and they promised me to have him to calls me. But still no one called. How come when LA Fitness wanted you to enroll, they are so nice and friendly and even give you false hope. But when you have problem, they show you a totally ugly face?

when is the pool going to heated in beavercreek oh, i have told everyone i know not to join if they want to have use of the pool due to the cold temperature of the water, warm it up and i will start recommending new clients, this is not what i paid for!!!!!!!!!!!! you have really gone down hill,
