Easy to sign up. Very difficult to cancel membership. Plan on paying extra months until it is resolved. It sounds like this this way of doing business is a corporate decision/philosophy.
Hello, Staff - As an original member of Holiday Spas, which was absorbed by Bally's and has now been acquired by LA FITNESS, my Founder membership is in its 36th year . . . Unfortunately, with BALLY's, I was prepared to report them to the Los Angeles Health Dept. due to the poor maintenance of the various clubs that I regularly go to . . . As a pilot, the ability to go to the nearest club when I arrive at my California destinations, has been a great incentive to stay with BALLY's. I had hoped that LA FITNESS would correct the problems when it took over - - - WISHFUL THINKING! When touch down in Ontario, the Montclair club is always clean and the staff is friendly. No complaints . . . When I land in Long Beach, I go to the club on the traffic circle and it too is a clean club. When I come into LAX, the BUNDY club in West Los Angeles is marginal. However, the Torrance Club on Hawthorne Blvd/Del Amo Street in Torrance, should be SHUT DOWN! It has become a "PIG STY"! It is filthy - ESPECIALLY ON WEEKENDS - and Frank, the lead employee has yet to step up to confront management to change the culture of that staff. Theyoung staff is good at sitting, postguring and shoveling BS and I suspect they get away with it because YOUR CORPORATE staff could care less!!! I had hoped that when LA FITNESS took over, things would change . . . obviously, I was wrong. So, I WILL REPORT the Torrance Club to the Los Angles Health dept. as well as the city of Torrance and I will make it my mission to close the Torrance Club down!!! The club is filthy, unsanitary, with no hot water available in the men's shaving area and no one knows how to pick uop trash, clean sinks, mop floors, etc . . . The staff is too busy posturing and hitting on the girls and dishing out BS! (I suspect considering your new shower-soap grade, the direction of the clubs is DOWN and you simply bought the clubs for either a write-off, or a cash-cow - - - It is amazingly clear that you have even less interest in your members concerns than Bally's!! So, a very disappointed member who would fire every Torrance employee, ALONG WITH YOUR CORPORATE/REGIONAL DIRECTOR and hire real health professionals, wants you to know that none of your staff would last a week in my employment. Your Torrance Club is a disgrace and you should be ashamed of yourself - - - Hugely dissappointed! SHAME ON YOU!!! Dieter Wagner
0 stars should be an option for the LAFitness in Clifton, NJ. Their sales representatives were so nice and welcoming when I signed up. I signed up for the gym and for a personal trainer package. I specifically explained to the rep that I wanted to sign up but that I was looking to move to another State (NY). He said it would be okay, just to let him know. I moved about 8 months later. Now that I need to cancel, the same representative, that was so attentive months ago, was so rude and never available to speak to me. Now, even though I see him just walking around the gym, I need to make an appointment to speak to him. I have tried to speak to someone at the front desk, but no manager is ever available to speak to me. When I was finally able to speak to someone, I explained the situation to this person and he laughed and just said that the rep couldn't have told me that I could cancel if I moved because that it's just it true. So, he basically called me a liar. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST!!!
L.A. Fitness is THE worst gym by far when it comes to customer service. I recently signed up for a membership and with doing so they told me I get a free session with a PT. So by the end of my training session the trainer asked me if I would be interested in setting up a payment plan for a trainer I told him yes. So he asked one of his co-workers to assist me in looking up some payment plans. It was very expensive, so I told him that I wouldn't be able to afford it rite now due to the fact that I'm getting ready to move into a new apartment. So he became outraged and told me I was not serious about getting into shape and said that I can leave now. I kept my cool and just walked out of the door. Ever since that day I vowed that I would NEVER step foot in another L.a. Fitness. So after that I went back and told them to cancel my membership so they gave me a paper to mail to the corporate office it's been two weeks and they still haven't stopped taking the money out of my account. I am very disappointed and I would not recommend this gym to anybody.
More Lawsuits Filed Against LA Fitness and Bally Total Fitness Jan 25 12 In the midst of more lawsuits filed against both LA Fitness and Bally Total Fitness, LA Fitness has updated access provisions to its clubs for former Bally members. The latest class-action lawsuits were filed last week in Pennsylvania and New Jersey on behalf of former Bally members who claim LA Fitness violated their contracts after the Irvine, CA-based company acquired 171 Bally clubs last November . The New Jersey suit was filed Jan. 18 in Superior Court in Camden, NJ. The plaintiffs' attorney, Mark Guralnick, said in media reports last week that he has received inquiries from members in California, Texas, Minnesota and Illinois in addition to members in the Philadelphia and New Jersey areas. On a Facebook page, Guralnick said last week that more than 100 plaintiffs are involved in the lawsuits. LA Fitness and Bally are being sued on the grounds of a violation of the state health club services act, a violation of the state consumer fraud or unfair and deceptive trade practices act, a breach of contract, fraud and constructive fraud, and a breach of implied contracts and promissory estoppel. Earlier this month, a lawsuit seeking class-action status was filed in U.S. District Court in Chicago . The plaintiffs in that case also claim LA Fitness and Chicago-based Bally violated consumer fraud and deceptive business practices acts, adding LA Fitness is not honoring lifetime memberships from Bally. Attorneys for Bally and LA Fitness as well as Christopher Cooper, the attorney representing the plaintiffs, attended a hearing in that case on Jan. 17. The two companies have until Feb. 7 to file a motion to dismiss. The next hearing is scheduled for Feb. 10. LA Fitness and Bally typically do not comment on pending litigation. However, LA Fitness recently provided a membership status update on its website, saying the company has simplified its access rules, which carry several provisions. All of the Bally "local" members will have access to LA Fitness clubs and acquired Bally clubs in the state of enrollment, and all of the Bally "national" members will have access to those clubs in all states, LA Fitness says. The exception in both cases is for New York clubs (unless the members enrolled in New York) and clubs designated as Signature and Athletic clubs. Also, Bally members in the acquisition who have only single-club access will continue to have access to that single club. If that club has closed, those members will have access to the nearest Bally or LA Fitness club. Members who purchased lifetime memberships at the Bally clubs that LA Fitness acquired will continue to have access under the terms of the latest provision. You need to contact the lawyer representing plaintiffs in the Bally & L.A. Fitness class action lawsuits!!!!!!!!

I have been going Cycling in the mornings at 5:45am in the Leesburg, Virginia location. One of the people at the location dismissed one of the greatest Cycling Instructors and everyone wants her back. She did Monday mornings, Tuesday and Thursday evenings, Saturday mornings, and Sunday afternoons. How can we get her back. Every is complaing about one of the management at LA Fitness. I will not mention no name. I'm very pleased with LA Fitness.
After 17 days of employment as the Personal Training Director [hell of a Title], I realize I was sold a false bill of goods accepting this position. I applied for the post thinking I would make a difference in a club that was struggling to survive after a blemished history where staff sold then re-sold training sessions. I found the club a mess. No organization and I was placed into the position with absolutely NO TRAINING. I had to manage a staff of 7 trainers [my forte] who had seen Directors come and go and then I needed to learn the LA Fitness Presentation for selling training [they like to call it the "PREZO"] which was based on the idea you could burn 50 calories a day at rest [this is not true]. I've been in sales over 20 years and their SOP is to ask for the order 6 times! Anyone in sales knows the likelihood of sealing a deal after the 3rd ask drops off remarkably. On top of this, the pay structure was a mere $325/wk with bonus if you sold training packages that, quite frankly, would not help the member. I felt my experience and qualifications in the industry were marginalized by an overzealous VP who rode me on appearance and was consumed with one thing; sales. Of the overachievers I met in meetings, not one, in my opinion, could sell an honest, prudent training package. The ones that had merit in making a career in fitness would be quickly jaded to do so after this experience. And that's a shame because some PTDs have promise to go on to be real big names in this industry. I found myself working long hours, working every day to hit a number in a club where more than 50% of EFT billing was to pre-paid debit cards. No real money in the area yet the push to make sales seemed so sleazy. My integrity was a stake and without integrity nothing else matters. the flip-side to this is; when you have integrity, nothing else matters. I hold a MFA and several certs in the field and I regret compromising my standards of doing business for this company. I sacrificed a lot to assume this position, my spot on a fitness radio show, my web sales of suppliments but what was worse, my facial hair - which I find out was not company policy but the preferance of the VP. Corporate, please take notice.
The La Fitness facilities in metro Atlanta GA that are not brand new are showing the esults of deferred maintenance ( stinky, clunky exercise equipment, pool closings, AC and hot water outages). My home facility does not respond to requests for additional cleaning or repairs. I can only assume that members are leaving them and they are trying to cut expenses . Are they on their way to the end ?
LA Fitness operations policy is a JOKE. Why can I become a month-to-month member over the phone or internet (TAKE MY MONEY), but they refuse to cancel my membership over the phone or internet? GREED! They believe in making it as hard as possible instead of being a fair and honest organization. DONT JOIN, YOU HAVE MANY BETTER OPTIONS! This problem will come to light and like all poorly run business they will ultimately fail. Hide behind the cloak of being a private company instead of listening to your customers;this experience could be much better. Good luck with Bally's integration because your path is not sustainable...more waste and dissatisfied customers.
I can't believe what poor maintenance service they have at the Vista, CA location. Machines are routinely broken and out of service for weeks or more. Several people mention the machines that are broken to the front desk people, but it takes dozens of times before a sign is even placed on the machine. There's no way to send a complaint in to corporate since they don't provide an email address or method of contacting them on their website. I think we should start a class action lawsuit to get some of our dues back. I'm tired of paying full price for a bunck of equipment that doesn't work.
LA Fitness (La Habra) RAY CRUZ is the most evil person! He is shady, he lies, and he commits fraud. We signed up for one month (5 sessions) with a personal trainer. After the five sessions, we decided we would like to do another five. We now find out we have been put on contract for one year! We were never given a contract, and the only thing signed was the signature pad where the credit card was signed. Well they have transferred that signature onto a 12 month contract Unbeknownst to us. NO ONE and I mean NO ONE will help us or listen to us. DO NOT EVER, EVER, EVER, give them you credit card information.
LA FITNESS WEST CARMEL , VERY BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE, DO NOT ENROLL YOURSELF HERE Worst Sales Manager Michael S. how can you be a Manager Mike? Basically he told me yesterday May 9th, 2012 'I do not want unhappy clients here" if you do not like LA FITNESS do not come back, leave the gym" this is so ridiculous Mike, you were very happy with me when you enroll me on May 16th, 2011 right? then I went with you to complain and you call me liar... so I left the gym, I closed my membership, Be careful with the sales people in LA FITNESS. Horrible Kids Club, more that 20 kids with just 2 girls "looking after them" while they use their iPhone or read a book. Staff here do not care about their clients, we are just a number. do not ever do business with LA FITNESS. they have cancelled my account numerous times and still charge my acct. they are liars and cheats that hope you dont notice 200 monthly out of your account. all i can say is DONT DO IT!!!!!! i would give them negative stars if possible.
I joined LA Fitness in Chicago. I told the lady handling my membership that I was moving to Las Vegas. She said, no problem--they have LA Fitness there also. Well, they don't, the nearest one is either in Arizona or California. I go to the one in Hyde Park and they do the very minimum for its members. I will not renew.
Stay away from L.A. Fitness. I joined there in February, had to switch to a morning Personal Trainer due to my schedule. He trained me three days and was great, then I got a call saying he was switching to Sales and they had no one else to train in the mornings, so I had to re-arrange my schedule, go with an entirely new PT, who on my first day with him when I was stretching at the very end of my appointment, put his hands on me to massage my hamstrings, except his hands all of a sudden went way up my legs. I made a noise, he pulled back REAL fast and I about ran out of the building. I filed a police report, called the gym a few days later and was told he would be fired. HE WAS NOT! I called a week later and he was still employed with them! I received a call from a VP who, at first was very helpful, then he dropped off the face of the earth, never calling me back again. STAY AWAY from L.A. Fitness....they obviously do not check out their PT's prior to hiring them.
I don't think it is fair the way L.A. Fitness set up the renewal membership. Last year, I paid the same price with my friend. This year, my renewal fee is higher than she is, why? I really don't understand how L.A. Fitness comes up with all these fees. Can you please explain to me. Don't get me wrong. I love L.A. Fitness more than Bally Total Fitness. But please explain to me why my membership is higher than my friend and we both paid the same fee last year.
The LA Fitness gym on Holcomb Bridge, Roswell, Ga. is in serious need of a maintenance schedule. It is the practice there- to wait until things break or fall apart before anything gets done!! Then they put up a sign that closes the pool or sauna or shower or hot-tub ect. until they can get around to repairing it! Guess they didn't think about doing maintenance during "off" hours OR before things actually go to pieces! A related problem is the constantly changing personnel. The "buck" stops with nobody!
I live in the Indianapolis are. Last fall I signed up my-self, wife aand daughter ant a L.A. fitness in westfield. Five months later the person who sold me "JOHN" left the gym and suddenly we started getting charged and extra $50 every month. For month he lied and lied to us and our bank. Finally after bank intervention corporate reinbursed us. So we decided to try the new L.A. fitness in Fishers. OMG! It is soo dirty, chalk all over everything, water fountains don't work, urinal out of order and thugs in the baketball court fighting all eve. Not sure if I even ever got in the court there. And the staff. Where were they? No clue. Now, I took the 45min drive to a town called Greenfield. Prob the cleanest nicest L.A. fitness I have been to. Unfortunatlly, the first thing I encountered was soo creepy. Was a young girl in front of me at the desk. As she was walking out the front entrance the guy at the front desk watched her the entire way to her car as he grabed his crtch and said some very vulgur things concerning her. I had to redirect his attention just to get checked in. Ok, this doesn't seem too creepy? Well this guy introduced himself to me in the middle of my workout. HE WAS THE GM!! "DON" Was just walking around creeping on every white girl in the gym. I couldn't believe it. I am so done with LA fitness here in the indianapolis area. Not sure who is doing the hiring but it is getting bad. Real Bad. My wife or daughter won't even go anymore. Very Weird!!! Very Unprofessional!
