Please...bring back the convenience of catalogs. Not everyone has the luxury of computers or iPhones. And what is with the new policy of picking up an order at the register? A hassle, along with a 15 minutes wait. Yikes! You are making it difficult to remain a customer.
After reading about all of the Penney's employees being laid off I feel compelled to post this..... Recently my daughter and 2 of her friends made a poor choice and tried to shoplift some costume rings from JC Penney's. Of course they were caught, handcuffed, detained and then taken to juvenile detention. The total cost of the rings was $97.00 between all 3 of them. The law states that anything over $50.00 is cause for arrest and detainment. My daugter had 1 ring worth $12.00 but she was still charged with $97.00 along with her 2 friends, each charged with $97.00. Now I am not making excuses for my daughter, what she did was wrong, it was her first time doing anything like this and it was definitely a learning experience that I would hope she does not want to repeat. The items were returned, the charges were eventually dropped and JC Penney said they were not seeking any restitution for this incident. Then, I get a letter from a law firm representing JC Penneys claiming they are filing a civil suit against us for $250.00 and we have 30 days to pay it or incur further costs. This is supposedly a right they have under a new Texas Civil Code allowing a retailer to seek cost of damages made during a shoplifting incident. Well nothing was broken or damaged the items were returned, so I asked what the $250.00 was paying for. They told me it was to cover the costs of JC Penney's security cameras and personnel's time spent preventing shoplifting. I truly don't think that is what this code was designed to do and these are overhead expenses of running a business. If nobody ever stole anything from Penney's they would still have the cameras and the personnel, so why are we having to pay there overhead costs. They are charging each set of parents $250.00, that is $750.00. Wow, if they do that with every shoplifter that's quite a little racket they got going. So, why are they having to lay off their employees? One more note, when they detained my daughter and her friends, it was right before closing time, I was there to pick up the girls and could not find them. My daughter tried to tell them that I would be there and asked if she could call me and let me know where they were, they took away all 3 girls cell phones, turned them off and I was not notified that they had taken my daughter until 45 minutes after the mall was closed. So, for 45 minutes I had no idea where they were and was frantic especially when I tried to call all 3 of them and all 3 phones were off!!! I wonder what they would do if they could not find their children........ Again, please don't think that I am trying to make any excuses for what my daughter and her friends did, it was wrong, but what is being done now is wrong too!!!!!
I was really optimistic with the direction JCPenney's was heading. It was taking a fresh approach to advertising, the clothes seemed to be taking on a younger, fresher look and then...wham! It all of the sudden it's an outlet for cheap clothing that lacks any imagination or style. Very disappointing.
I have been really upset by what I have seen with the so-called "new JCP". I was raised on JCP. My mother worked there for 38 years, advancing through many depts. and ending up as an office manager. She retired in 1972. I also worked for Penney's for two years in the 50's. It is the first store that I head for. BUT NOT ANYMORE!! You have completely ruined that company as far as I am concerned. I am not interested in "shopping by color". I am interested in prices and quality of merchandise. Last month I shopped Penney's. I bought a pair of slacks - the clerk said they were already discounted. She said everything comes in discounted now. I then went to MACY'S that has always been a bit higher in price than Penney's. I found the same pants but they were discounted $10.00 lower!!. I of course, took the pair back to Penney's. When I go in the store, I see very few people shopping there. I talked to a clerk about it and was told that sales were "way down" and most people are complaining about this "new" Penney's". The new logo is not any good either. It looks like a generic of some sort. Also, you are openly supporting lesbians and that turns my stomach. I KNOW THAT IT WOULD CERTAINLY TURN THE FOUNDER, JAMES CASH PENNEY' STOMACH TOO! HE WAS A VERY DECENT AND THRIFTY MAN. I KNOW MUCH ABOUT THAT MAN. I KNOW HOW PENNEY'S WAS STARTED AND WHAT HIS MOTIVES WERE IN STARTING PENNEY'S. YOU HAVE TRASHED HIS IMAGE!!! YOU MIGHT AS WELL CLOSE THE DOORS, AS THAT IS WHERE IT IS HEADED! TOO BAD!
I have also been a JCP customer for many years and very very loyal. Why don't you look at our (my husband and I)JCP credit card. The reason you are now getting a 1 star is because I am pissed!! Oh--no sales??? Really?? Check out my credit card from JCP, The dates will coinside with the sales that you are saying make people think the quality is not good. --DO YOU THINK PEOPLE ARE STUPID??? People LOVE sales,--That is what BRINGS them into JCP. ----BAD QUALITY is SIMPLY BAD QUALITY. It has nothing to do with your sales, --and every thing to do with your purchasing agents buying CHEAP SHIT and someone at JCP's coporate offices likeing the money they are saving, by not haveing sales and not buying quality items for your stores.. I tell you, read my lips, ---- YOU ARE CAUSING YOUR OWN PROBLEMS!!! I always LOVED JCP WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING TO THIS TREASURED ICON??? GOOD SALES GOOD QUALITY MERCHANDISE---It has worked for you for a very long time, why mess with it now??
OH-and one other thing--------All of my Bedding, --well, most of it, --my comforters have always been from JCP-----Wonderful, wonderful comforters,----then, one day -it started to look like Ik--. Bad bad idea guys.
Get rid of the salon manger in your jcpenny's store in the Leigh valley she is a bad investment to your store I have been going in that salon for years but in the past 5 or 6 years that she has been there as your salon manager I have watch the salon go down she don't know how to talk to good paying customers or styist and the only reason that still go there is because I love my hairdresser I think you could get a better quanty of leadership to run that salon store 067
It is sad that company's are a lot to treat their employee like slaves I worked for penny's for 13 years the first 7 yrs was wonderful I love going to work being with good people that took pride in there work than we lost our salon manager and the woman that the company hired to replace her was horrible I don't know where they got her from I am almost 60 yrs of age and have been in the work earth at the age of 16 and she was the worst manager that I have ever work for if this the quantity of your manager than you are in worst trouble than you know store 067
I don't like the new J.C. Penny. The store is now empty of both new merchandise and customers. A ghost of itself. Great way to ruin a good thing. I'm sorry for the employees that are affected by this "stream-lining".
I too have shopped JC Penny in particular I had to replace my whole wardrobe, and household items due to a fire, I took advantage of the sales, coupons, etc. Then my local store was remodeled, and now I cannot find the same things in the store, in fact I cannot find anything. It has become too upscale. I have looked at the monthly catalogue that is mailed to me and there is not a thing in there clothes wise that interests me. The home shop has pretty much stayed the same, please keep it that way but as to clothes, shoes, etc, bring back the previous things. I do not even make JC Penny a destination to shop at
I have shopped at JC Penny for many, many years. I hate the new pricing and adds. I get their new circulars in the mail and they are not interesting at all. Seems like a waste for them to send me them. I have not made a purchase there since the new changes. Before I shopped there at least 1 to 3 times a month. I wear sketcher shoes and bought one or two pairs of them there at least once every two months plus made many other purchases. I like coupons and sales. I have walked through the store and was very disappointed in the prices. Other stores in the area are much better with their pricing and sales. As long as they do not have coupons or sales I will not be shopping at JC Penny any longer. Please bring back sales and coupons.
I read this morning of the terrible 1st quarter losses and would like for you to forward this e-mail to Mr Ron Johnson as I imagine he is feeling a bit down at the moment. I want him to know I have not been in a JCP for over 5 years and very much preferred Steinmart for my shopping (more compact,good selection and good prices) then I saw an advertisment in Parade Magazine a couple of weeks ago for an orange Nichole Miller handbag and phone my local JCP and sure enough they had it and the nicest lady assured me on the hone she would hold it on the shelf for me. When I went in the next day there it was with my name on it so I purchased it and then went for a tour of the store, What a shock it was, so bright and inviting - nice employees and great merchandize. I just want him to know the article might be right in that the public is not aware yet how your image has changed (although the new advertising should be a clue - but also I magine, very expensive. I certainly won't be going back to Steinmart as I now prefer JCP (which I believe it should be renamed to). So keep up the good work and hang in. My feeling is that it is Sears on the way out and Macys doesn't even hold a candle to you - too jumbled and difficujlt to find what I like without walking forever - thank you
I went to the store to order two new nfl jerseys for my grandsons for their birthday. I was told that I would have them by the time of their birthdays, 5/16/12. So far no call or no package coming to the store. Called at the Dulles Town Center store and was told to wait until they looked up the order. Was assured that I would get the jerseys and that they had my email and would send me a heads up.Guess what, no record of the order and now they are telling me that the shirts will not come until after June, when in fact they are the online site today and are available.What kind of operation are you running at that store. I am not disappointed with having a new spokesperson for you store, Ellen. I am not that petty or nor am I a bigot like some on this page, they need to get a life, but I am disappointed that this has happened because no one there knows their job and by the way I was kept on hold for over 15 minutes waiting for the manager of the store and than I just hung up. Called again and was told that the shirts would not be in until sometime in June. Very bad
You are "eliminating" positions...great economy to do that. Let's see how your stores run without any managers out on the sales floor. I give it a year before you just royally tick off all customers and ex- employees. Good luck.....hope someone can see your "vision"
I have been a loyal JC Penney customer since 1982. I did all my shopping in the catalog and also in the stores. I live in the Danbury area and have been going to the Danbury store since 1995. I have to say after all the hype with Ellen DeGeneres as the spokespersonToday I went to use my rewards and could not even find a great selection for men's socks. There was hardly any choices to make and the big and tall sek and all the claims for a new kind of store I am totally disappointed. Not only did you let go of managers that have been there a long time, the newer store look has been anything but helpful. There is hardly any choices in the departments and you can never find any cashiers since the store has reassigned the spots. I will not be shopping there any more and I am hoping the new CEO gets on board and goes back to what the store roots were. Also why let go managers who were helpful and hire young people with hardly any experience to do their jobs.
the biggest problem that has happened at jcpenney has been all the lay offs. as soon as things seemed to calm down they laid off more people. many of which have worked for jcpenney for many years. the stores are being run by new management that have replaced the ones that were laid off. it is obvious that they want new people to take these jobs so that they can pay them less.
JC Penneys will not be in business in 2014.
After reading the business section in todays paper re:( JCPenney profits down) I wonder if the management of this corporation understands that its not only the advertising campaign that has caused this problem!! Reading all the comments confirms my belief that all three items that have changed ( marketing, PC correctness, and lack of empolyees) are causing this down turn in profits!! However the political correctness of your ads, using Ellen D and showing lesbian couples in your mothers day ad, pushed my family out of your store after 40+ years of shopping. This store has turned a corner that I am sure is causing the founder to turn over in his grave. Shame on you!!!!!
THE CLOTHES HAVE NO STYLE. I USED TO BE ABLE TO BUY LONG SLEEVE T SHIRTS TO WEAR WITH JEANS. NICE AND SIMPLE. ALL OF THE CLOTHES LOOK LIKE A CAN OF PAINT WAS POURED ALL OVER THEM. LIZ CLAIBOURNE WERE NICE CLOTHES WHEN MACYS SOLD THEM, NOW THEY HAVE REALLY CHANGED. TOO MANY DIFFERENT COLORS ON ONE ITEM. TAILORED AND SIMPLE AND NOT ALL OF THIS OFF THE SHOULDER, RUFFLES, SCOOP NECKS AND WHATEVER ELSE YOU HAVE BEEN SELLING FOR THE PAST COUPLE OF YEARS. FINALLY, DONT USE THAT FLIMSY MATERIAL YOU HAVE BEEN PUTTING IN YOUR CLOTHES.
I was a stylist at JC Penney salon in Florida and chose to resign my position due to crazy pay scale changes they are starting like paying you hourly instead of commission and nothing extra for retail !! This is nonsense trying to cap me while your pockets get bigger ! No thankyou I will take my talent elsewhere and I urge other stylist to do the same , do not waste your time they clearly no nothing about running a salon !!!!!!
