I worked for JC Penny from 11-2011 to 2-2012 when I was let go during a reduction in workforce. In the time I worked at JC Penney I never called in sick and spent way more than I earned. I have yet to be paid for my last day of work which was 2-25-2012. I guess thay needed my pay to give to Ronald Johnson to help pay the 53 million thay paid him for his services at the end of 2011.
I shop all the time at JC Penney's and love the store. I have two stores near us but the one I shopped today was in Crystal River, Florida and I was shocked to find that they don't have a handicapped entrance or an automatic door. Most of the time it's not a problem except for today when I brought my 95 yr old dad who has to use a transport chair for long distance walking. Here was the problem...no way to get into the store through the double doors. There was no one around in the store to help hold the doors to get his chair through. We managed on our own, but it was difficult (a few scuffs and scraps), getting out the same problem. One person in a wheel chair never would have been able to gain entry on their own. I hope that something could be done to correct this problem.
I'm a relatively new JCP customer, who first began loyaly shopping the store for the fashion brands, I Heart Ronson, and then MNG by Mango, prior to the big changes. I love the polite and friendly JCP culture, and the wonderful, great value fashion items that are available. I'm becoming concerned however, with the way things are trending, and I would hate to see this iconic US retailer fail. Please, get a grip, before it is too late, I beg of you. The comments I'm reading here ring true, for the most part. I realize that some rebranding efforts were required, but things are spinning out of control. I miss the survey coupons, and following the sales. That was part of the game for landing a bargain, and yet, I also paid full price, many times as well, make no mistake. The advertising campaign. was okay, but it seems to have been at the expense of my budget. I'm not entirely sure what to advise, but for heaven's sake, listen to your customers and employees, and don't make any more rash moves.
I work at jc penneys for 2 years now, our sales are way down its like a ghost town there, our stock rooms are packed you can see were not selling, our hrs have been cut and some associates let go,i love my job, there but i have bills to pay also and i do need to eat, all their money and ours seems to go to advertising and stupid commercials, people dont like changes!!!!!
I am dismayed to find out JCP is downsizing their inventory in the store, hoping the customers will buy the needed color/size on-line. This is not an electronics store! The majority of people want to be able try things on first! Who wants to chance their last minute purchase of say: a Mother of the Bride Dress, to a catalog order, only to find it doesn't fit??!! JCP has to keep in mind that in this day of getting our clothing from all over the globe, a size 10 from India will probably not be the same size 10 coming from China. I work at a Penney's, and more customers have left the store empty-handed when not finding what they wanted, than chance an order on-line.
I live in Fairfax Virginia, and think that what you are doing is innovative. While many of the comments center around personal prejudices, I want to focus on the buyers and the cloths. The stores in our areas are difinately not as discribed by some of those people commenting. I still like your clearance sections and think that sometimes business have to try differnt things or end up like Borders. I have been in JC penny stores from Hawaii to Puerto Rico in my travels and alwasy found them welcoming. What I notice in some of the comments people are too focused on the gay aspect of the comercials.Whether somone acts effimanate or not has nothing to do with the merchandise in the Store. I shop in Nordstroms and Bloomingdales all of the time and if you stop and leave the store if you come across someone you may perceive as gay you may not have the fun of shopping in the store. Also, want to leave a store over something like that then you would not be able to go in many stores. No, I am not gay and have three children. Penney's was a lifesaver for clothers for my 18 year old. I love your new catalogs. the remind me o fwhat I get from Bloomies and Nordtrom.
I, too, have been a loyal customer of JC Penney for many years! When first introduced the no more coupon retailing....I thought it would be fine. Boy, was I wrong! After going to three different JC Penney stores in my area, I totally thought I had walked into a huge garage sale. I found nothing but cheaper clothes throughout the store (which, I guess is fine for t-shirts for kids and cheap clothing). The displays look more like a huge garage sale with many items just laid out on tables. I could find nothing I even cared to try on....and not only quality has been changed, but quantity as well. I do believe I am done with JC Penney's unless they turn around and bring it back the way it was. Guess this is one credit card I can take out of my purse!!! Very sad....I personally think this was a major bad choice as I have talked to many others who feel the same way! I say quit paying Ellen so much money to advertise for you and quit sending out the colorful brochures filled with colorful clothing and bring back the old JCP. Thanks for letting me vent
Will the REAL JCPENNYS ever return???? It seems Bankruptcy will be next??? There's hardly anyone in the stores since the changes??? I found a solution ,for my Family, It's good ,but kind of sad. I shop now ,At the Salvation Army Stores. I can usually find the products I used to buy at Pennys. I really miss Pennys. The store personnel were so nice, almost like family. I can't believe Pennys would discontinue the quality, & style for the junk they have on the women's clothes Racks; But then ,I've seen this junk on the sale racks, a few weeks or months later. Why would you discontinue the Cabin Creek Line of Clothes.Everyone is asking???? I come in contact with HUndreds of People a Week, As A Visiting Nurse, A Member of a Large Church, & A Member of Three Computer Clubs. And This a very Common Subject ; Is Penny on the way OUT.....? I still check in on Pennys,Many of Us Do, but find nothing worth buying..... I agree with the other Loyal JCPennys Customers below ; I have bought Products in most every Department several times a month, at JCPennys since 1953 . The last 50+ years, I shopped at the three JCPennys in Macomb & Oakland countys, Michigan. Our children ,& Grandchildren, ages 20s thru 50s were used to shopping there with me & so they continued to shop at Pennys; That is, MUST we give up Pennys after not finding anything decent,(to buy) since the recent changes. JLHudsons used to be good , But Macys, & Marshall Fields was too expensive, & carried items meant for maybe NEW Yorker Style, not Michigananders. But Hudsons didn't seem to notice that JCPennys provided us average College Educated hardworking Shoppers, with decent incomes, Excellent Customer service, great quality & good styles.Hope, For the sake of the Excellent sales staff, that Our Pennys will come back!!!! Jenny
I received an email from you stating: We have responded to the message you recently submitted on the jcpenney rewards credit card Online Message Center. To view our response: (1) Go to www.jcp.com/messagecenter. (2) Log in to your account. (3) On the Online Message Center page, select "View Messages". Well, the URL does not work. All you will get is a page does not exist error. I found the message center and responded that the URL did not work and I got a robot response that had absolutely nothing to do with what I had written. I then sent another email through the message center. Again, I received an email with the exact same text and still a non functioning URL. I went to the message center to see what they had written and wouldn't you know it - another canned response that said absolutely nothing. Customer Service Wrote: Thank you for your recent inquiry regarding your jcpenney rewards credit card account, and the opportunity to be of service to you. We are constantly striving to improve our Online Credit Center, and will take your feedback into consideration. Our goal is to deliver high quality service to all of our cardholders. Sincerely, B.Schmidt jcpenney credit services customer service 1-800-542-0800 I find it very interesting that your canned responses don't even properly format your own name (I do believe there are capital letters involved)! I find providing "valued customers" with a URL that does not exist to be horrible customer service.
My grandmother and mother shopped JCP for year, all my school clothes came from JCP. When I married I still shopped JCP and yes that's where I took all my children for their school clothes and I alway order most of my christmas gifts for JCP. But now I stand looking around and asking myself "WHERE DID JCP'S GO" Your clothes are cheap, and in very bad taste. I too Had a JCP's credit card, but I find there is nothing I want to buy in the store or on line. I loved you Cabin Creek button down shirts, but now you have stopped making they, why????? You are turning your back on the people who has been with you the longest, just like Sears and look what happen to them......GOOD BY JC PENNEY'S I AM DONE.............
I worked at one of your stores and I have been a loyal customer and a loyal card holding customer an advocate for several years, now that you have what is supposed to be a Happy Returns policy with no restrictions, this is a joke. Your returns are not consistant, your policy does not state what form of payment you will give yet you have stores addopting their own interpetation as to what is to take place. This is not Happy Returns. It says any item, any time, anywhere it's that simple. Well it's not that simple if you are a associate with JCP if you bring something back without a reciept then they are going to assume that a associate discount was taken what's fair and square about that. There is nothing that states that I have to use a discount to make a purchase.Good Luck Swimming at the bottom of the barrel of retailers as for me and my colleagues we will be taken our bussiness to other retailers that treat their customers fair and square.
I am baffled by your company's choice to discontinue the Cabin Creek line of clothing. I have shopped at Jc Penney for at least 35 years. I have had a Jc Penney credit card for at least 30 years. I can no longer find clothes suitable for my age and size in your store or online. Everything appears to be geared toward the young person. My favorite item from your catalog was the Cabin Creek Oxford shirts, long and short sleeve. I guess I will have to find somewhere else to shop. It saddens me.
I went in with my bangs cut and asked if they could layer my hair and break up the bangs to a layer cut. I had long hair down to the center of my back my sides to my shoulder. She stated she could not cut it that way with out taking the back up I stated one inch off the back that was all. when She was done and never touched my bangs. I came back and said this has to be fixed I had a mullet on top of my head. I got a book and showed her how I wanted the top layered she again started in the back and kept cutting never touching my bangs. At this point I took off the cape and stated WE ARE DONE HERE!!! I explained I needed my bangs layered to another hair care worker male he was very nice and did layer my bangs. The rest is so uneven and choppy I am embarrassed to leave my home. now I have a Pat Benatar hair cut. I was livid I held my peace as my daughter was with me and waited till I was home to call and to complain the manager. He called me back the next day and offered a refund that was all the help he would provide. I asked him for the license number of the hair care personal he even refused me that!!!!! I called the corporate number I got voice mail I have spent hundreds of dollars in that salon getting highlights color cuts for me and who ever came with me when I did we both did our hair. Its more fun to include a beauty day with a loved one. I am in NO WAY SATISFIED with the JC PENNY STORE and you just lost a good customer by the way that was the Hair center in POPLAR BLUFF MISSOURI, DON'T GO PEOPLE stay away from SHELLY OMG I have no hair left to fix. Oh I have a wedding next month to go to thanks anyone got a wig at the very least they could offer an extensions discount or a wig.
Very sad for the people in Baraboo Wisconsin after being loyal customers to JCPenney since 1929, that corporate decided to close the store! Corporate, over the years had slowly taken the products of interest away from our rural store and it became strictly a clothing store and I watched as you slowly sent us seconds and the products that the larger stores didn't want or weren't big sellers. By Christmas season of 2011, we didn't even carry hankerchiefs for the older folks! You have to have a decent product to sell it! Once the catalog's were discontinued, you deleted the older generation (50-80) that ordered regularly and came in the store and bought additional items for others. I don't know what your target market is now, but I for one as a former employee of JCP probably won't go out of my way to drive an hour away and shop there! I also have been hearing many comments about your new flyers...they are not a draw and remind people of the See Spot Run...Run,Run,Run mentality! No coupons, no decent flyers..NO DRAW!
I totally agree with Barbara (3/9/12). I am also writing to state that I have shopped at JC Penney for over 35 years (and have the gold card to show for it). However, if JC Penny is of the mindset that they will bow to pressures of the far left and take away their advertising based upon the decision of that entity, I guess JC Penney no longer needs my business. I don't even listen to Rush Limbaugh but I defend the right for people to have free speech. My husband is a vet who fought for the right to free speech and I WILL NOT give my business to anyone who believes that only certain people are entitled to have their opinions expressed. Consider me a former JC customer (which is too bad because I really like your stores).
JC Penney has always been one of my favorite places to shop. The changes you have made do not reflect the fine traditions and quality that JC Penney has always offered. No, you will not miss me as a customer, but you will miss many customers like me. I have seen it in our local store - very few customers - it has always been the opposite before the change. I am saddened by this change, and I think change can be good. But in this case, JC Penney, your CEO is WRONG! I see bankruptcy in the future for this beloved store if someone does not step in and return this chain of stores back to the standards that consumers want.
J.C. Penny's should realize that when it gives into the PC, left wing, Media Matters police and drop their advertising with Rush Limbaugh they are insulting the many shoppers that listen to the show. Alone with your horrible Ellen DeGeneres commercials there is no reason to shop at your store again.
wow...most of these comments are ugly and make me ashamed to be related by blood to any of you. i work at JCPenney. im a young employee, i am straight, this was my first job. JCPenney's new CEO is really trying. i think having ellen as the celebrity spokesman is fantastic. GO GAYS! they're nicer people than you people who judge others based on the things that make them happy. show some compassion for your neighbors. respect. this is the world we're living in. i know first hand that the hours have been cut drastically, but hours pick up during the best price time- since there is so much reticketing for us to you. making items quite cheap for the customer. i dont quite agree with not having the coupons anymore- but it makes it so much easier for the associates. now customers get the lowest price itll be before it goes on best price. when i ticket things- i can see that we're saving you money. just last night there was an emergency ticketing call and we changed the price of some window appliances and drapes from $75 to $35. without it being on best price. you couldnt appreciate the effort and master mind behind this all, because you're all afraid of change. the CEO has BIG plans...they're impressive. but i've been told im not supposed to tell people what the changes will be. but it will be big. the shopping experience will change and i think will definetly be geared more toward a younger generation (50 and younger) because of the new changes. they arent so much geared older just because JCP knows that the buyers are younger and they younger they hook 'em, the longer they'll be loyal. ellen be the spokesman is a bold move. people who live in communities that dont accept gays, are the people who are afraid. so lay off it, she is who she is and i support her. JCPenney supports everyone. and i do too.
I wanted to start this conversation out letting you know that even though I am just a shopper at your store and not a part of management or cooperate ,I can see a huge mistake on the horizon . What drew me in to your stores was 1. Sales 2 .Coupons 3. Door busters Etc. Well I took a chance and I went to your store with the new ways you are operating and may I say wow just by walking through the store @deerbrook mall ,Humble ,tx there was hardly anyone in your store no one was hardly shopping in there and the ambience was drab . I bet if you were to look at your revenue as of right now versus last year at this time even ,that you would already see the difference and that the store is failing miserably . I'm just a shopper who happens to know how it works and what drawls people like myself in to a store thank you for your time .
I have been a faithful consumer of JCPenny products for years. After seeing all the changes that have been made, I will be rethinking shopping at my local JCPenny in Lewisville, Texas. Instead of raising the bar, your new CEO has lowered it. The employees now dress like they work at a five and dime, the current selection of clothing is not good, clothing racks are always a mess, there are fewer registers and employees to help customers, the bottom line pricing is a terrible concept and the overall feel of the store is cross between Wal-mart and Target. The leadership of JCPennys has fallen short in its execution of the make-over of the store. You should have been aiming for a look more like that of Macy's and Dillard's instead of a slightly higher quality Wal-mart. Sadly, I think you are going to end up in the same boat as Sears. Sears purchased K-mart and rather than make K-mart better- Sears turned into K-mart.
