Son Ron's drastic change did not work out. You think maybe it was the inefective way it was communicated to the public. The commercials while cute failed to get the message of Fair and Square pricing out to the public. Ron's next more...back pedal and start putting the blame of not getting the message of Fair And Square pricing out- on the store associates! How was this my fault? It is sad to see how JCP is treating it's employees. On 4/30 I was called to sotre manager's office today and this was told to me "as we move forward we have to make changes as we reimangine our company, we have to make difficult changes. Based on your skill set we no longer have a place for you". No other job offer...probably I was maxed out...HUH? Ron Johnson cares for people....really...give me a break. So after 20 years of missed breaks, shortned lunches, changed day off's -at a moment notice, come in on your day off - we had a call off, we need you to run catalog desk for 1 hour & much more.... This former supervisor no longer works for JCP. On Friday I was given my 20th anniversary gift (1 month late) and thanked by Store Manager4/27 "for all you do for JCP & store 2139". The Store Manager even shook my hand to thanked me said Congratulations 20 years is a good thing" Then to day this.... I feel so worthless...so hurt... Very Sad.
What has happened to this once great company? Is their a complete idiot at the helm? What is the marketing team thinking??? The catalogs hardly show the merchandise. Instead, they are pushing a LGBT lifestyle and a grunge look. No thank you!!! I will take Kohl's any day!!! Goodbye jcp. I was once a loyal customer and part-time associate in my teen years. Look at may 2012 catalog page 10-11!!!! Page 60-61... How stupid! Are we selling the shirt or the guys tatts? Page 84-85.. Drinking a big mug of beer right in front of the little kid's face. Everyone looks wasted. Pathetic!!!
I am very disappointed in the quality of JCPenneys women's. They look like Target, sleazy fabric, poor fit, poor style, poor everything. I go and look but leave empty handed. I have had to move up a notch to Macys and Nordstroms. Men's clothing looks pretty much the same. Why do women have to suffer? Pretty soon I will have to give up even looking at JCPenneys. What a shame.
I have been an employee of jcp for over ten years,a supervisor for 8. I have seen many changes and agree that something needed to be done about the many sales and coupons. I am not sure if the new strategy is the fix. Since the new return policy was inacted, returns are doubling. Allowing people to return anything, any time is negligent. It is nice to assume only ethical people would return defective or unwanted items, but that is not the case..They are brining back worn, outdated, stolen merchandise and getting credit for it..This does not help me maintain sales goals/productivity. Staff is reduced but yet I am still held to Customer First standards with no associates on the floor. I am told sales don't matter, but salary costs are directly effected by sales. No sales, even less associates. Stores with good Customer First scores are rarely on top for sales, so please explain why you think scores have anything to do with sales?. From the time I started until now our store has lost 6 million dollars in sales. No survey back then, just people happy with our store. Loss Prevention is another area of concern. Shoplifters are everywhere. Limited hours for lp and strict rules do not make my job easy. Between merchandise going out the door ,bogus returns and the survey it is nearly impossible to maintian the numbers I need to ensure a good appraisal. I agree the economy is a factor and many companies have restructured, but maybe jcp is cutting a little to thin and not focusing on real ways to drive and maintain profits. Many good, hard working and long term associates have been let go without even attempting to move them into new positions, leaving ones with less experience who need constant supervision and direction. I am sure there will be more changes to come . I wish that the people that work behind a desk could understand what it is really like to work on the sales floor. I think they would have a hard time following the rules they have made.
The new and improved JCP is a joke. The store is now deserted with sparse merchandise. The thrill of shopping with discount coupons is gone. So sad to witness the demise of a once great retailer. Ron Johnson is no genius; he is simply an Ivy league narcissist gone wild.
I used to love to shop there at least 1-2 times a week, since you have changed I have been in there once and will NOT go back to shop. I even closed my credit account. I used to buy all my home stuff, girls clothes and just about all of my clothes there. I could really get some good sales and awesome stuff (especially when it was clearance or on sale and I had a coupon). I can get better deals at Kohls, and T.J. Maxx now. I don't give a rats butt on how you advertise it's all about my budget and how much I can save in today's time! You lost lots of customers maybe one day your new CEO will see that before you have to file bankruptcy and close stores!
If I were the CEO I would fire the advertising company doing the print and TV ads. We have an auctioneer lowering prices - but no merchandise for sale. A kid pinning a tail on a donkey - but no merchandise. I hula hoop kid with an old dude sleeping and a cat on a fence but no merchandise. People want to see WHAT fair pricing is - this coat used to be $50, now it's $25. These shoes were $75 now they're $45. Like Jerry McQuire, "Show me the merchandise!" Plus I feel sorry sorry for the employees. Many were forced into early retirement under a threat of being fired so in January there was a purge. Those who didn't give in found their job title was eliminated in the reorganization and there was not a comparable job open so they were let go. So sad to see an outsider trash the place.
Please put the Cabin Creek pants back in your stores. I have seen where many people want them back. They were great selling pants. I agree with a lot of the reviews I have read. Your clothing is not as nice as it was last year. Please listen to your customers and go back to the way things were before you loose more customers and business.
I have been an employee of J.C. Penney for the past five, almost six, years. Ever since Ron Johnson took over, what used to be a nice place to work and shop has turned into a personal hell. I am a full time student and have been blessed enough to work part time and get an average of 20-25 hours a week. Now with the new changes, we dont meet our sales goals, credit is down, sunday thru thursday have almost no customers at all. My hours have been cut to five a week. I commute to college and this barely fills my gas tank! They are removing registers throughout the store, leaving maybe 3 on the second floor and 5 on the first floor. We used to pride ourselves on getting the customer in and out of the store quickly and efficiently. Now, employees are rarely around because they dont have the hours to give, there are few registers, and different fashion lines are getting discontinued left and right. Customers are supremely unhappy and the associates that work there arent happy either. Also, they are thinking of changing the name to simply, JCP! No longer is James Cash Penney involved in this business. It was his idea, and Ron Johnson is destroying it. The company is going downhill fast, and it seems that there is no way to stop it. A rumor in the company is that they will soon have self checkouts. HOW DO WE STOP SHOPLIFTERS THEN!? JCP might as well just open their doors and tell people their merchandise is free. Seems like thats where they are going anyways. Now I'm off to fill out more job applications because I dont have any hours here.
Oh Wow!! You put a store close to my home - I was ecstatic! The bargains were much better than Kohls & you didn't even have to use a credit card. Each week you had coupons to save money and all women like to save money. You felt like you had accomplished something big and had a lot of merchandise to prove it. Now - I only get an expensive looking catalog with nothing worth looking at in it. I go in the store - nothing on sale, just some scattered clearances. It looks like a Target clothes store (and I don't care for Target's clothes). so needless to say the thrill is gone - When I go over there, I can tell I'm not the only one who thinks so. The parking lot used to be full most of the time - now you can go in and not see anyone. The old saying - "If it ain't broke - don't fix it" comes to mind. Please get rid of whoever is steering you in the wrong direction. Everyone loves a bargain & the bargains left your store :(
I have read all prior comments. It's now my turn. I have been retired now for 7 years. I have worked in Credit / Catalog, Back Office (ALL) functions, BLA / IMA. Because of cutbacks I lost 4 postions. What I am hearing is nothing new. JCP used to be a great place to work. You felt like family. Everyone looked after each other. I worked at a 5 million dollar store up to a 52 million dollar store when I left. My chrystal ball back in 06 told me the next group would be pricing....Dept mgrs would be combined, and I also said if you worked in a metro area 1 store manager would have multiple stores. I felt this because, being in my position, heard and could see what was coming. So far I have been 100% right. Mr Penney would not appreciate the way his store is being run. Everything taken from the associate. All JCP wants are part timers to fill a space. These people could care less about the company. Just wanting enough money for the weekend. They do not know the merchandise, customer service is not there period. I don't care if anyone knows who I am. I gave 30 years to the company, and have earned my say.
I have ordered a whole entire bed set from you guys and it has been delivered to my home and for one the bed was broken and not only that but it was also put together wrong not to mention that the only thing that wasnt discontined was the bed they brought the mirror to the dresser but the dresser was discontinued i paid cash for the whole set up front. When they came to get the bed and the mirror i had to take a day off of work and they didnt even show up i was told that, that was the day that i was suppose to call to get it picked up it made no sience thats why i called them in the first place was to come get there stuff. So i ended up having to take another day off work so that they could come and pick up the furniture. I was convienced to order a different set so i did so. I then was told that i would get everything in about two weeks oh yeah and not to mention i had already gotten ride of my daughters bed so she has been sleeping on the floor for almost three months. they sent the chair to the wrong place, brought the wrong bed all together this has been a night mare. my daughter just wants her bed that i paid for three months ago.. NOT HAPPY AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is my complaint these people come up with some random program deciding that they want to get rid of all of thes people that have been with the company for years a package the people that have showed up showed the company loyalty and servered these customers on a day to day basis but what kills me is they say we will pay you to leave this company and its been well over 2 and a half months and no money for Any of them jc Penney you should be ashamed....
I've shopped at JC Penney for 42 years, but no more. I could always find what I needed for my family at JC Penney. I appreciated the way JC Penney's always had a good sale. We need them these days. But because the decision you have made to keep Ellen Degeneres as your spokes person as well as the tv ad she did with JC Penney, depicting the Roman Era right before Easter, I will no longer shop your store. I hate this, because I have always depended on you. It breaks my heart. I love Ellen, because God tells us to love all people. It's her business what she wants to do with her private life, but she and JC Penney is now trying to influence the public with her lifestyle at a once family oriented store like JC Penney. I will be cutting up my credit card and returning it to JC Penney. Again, I hate this. I need JC Penney. But I also need to do what is right in the eyes of God. My prayers are with you and our nation.
My husband worked for JCP for 36 years missing one day of work for illness. He was a faithful, loyal, ethical, moral, and trusted emloyee. His position was eliminated without even knowing who he was. He was just a box on list of jobs that needed to be eliminated. Of course he was not the only one. Mr Penney would be disgusted with what has become of his stores. JCP has made a 180 of what his vision was. They have made so many changes "overnight" the customer is very confused. It is hard to know what is everyday, monthly, and best price. My family have been loyal customers for over 40 years. Not anymore. Macy's, here I come!! I can go to Kohl's or Target for better merchandise than JCP. Of course, I'm a little bitter because of the way they have treated their employees since Jan. 2012. Shameful!!!!!!!!
i'm having a difficult time adjusting to all of your changes. i applaude your not caving in to the million moms with the ellen question -- how 20th century of them to complain about this. i love her ads. yet, i'm so disappointed to not see the cabin creek products for women. i see your need to update things, but the print ads are a great waste of paper. bring back the cabin creek classic look.
JC Penney - you have totally screwed what was ONCE a beautiful store to shop in. I could walk in there and purchase just about everything I needed and I had a credit card balance to prove it. I LOVED the catalogs. I have a muscle disease and ordered more than you can imagine from those catalogs, but now they are gone too. The junk you show on the Internet can't even be seen properly and the sizing is very limited. The final blow was discontinuing CABIN CREEK. Had I wanted to shop at WalMart, I would have gone there - now your stores aren't much better, if at all. Get your act together before you lose all your customers.
I have shopped in my local JC Penny for 38 years. Not any longer!!! It looks like a low end department store now, and the quality of the clothing, well, Walmart may just surpass you before long. Why would you discontinue the Cabin Creek Line? I asked a store associate about it and I was told JC Penny doesn't carry that line anymore because the "company went out of business". There are alot of older ladies, who believe it or not, do not want to dress like their grandaughters. I am saddened and see no future for this store now. What a mess!!!!! Take a lesson from "Coke"...don't change a good thing, it will only back fire in the end!!!
Hello I sure would hope some of the jcp executives read these comments. My wife started her career at 20 with jcpenney as a hair stylist and has been with the company for 18 years. Along with her I have seen a lot of changes in the company some good some bad. I am a elected official and have lots of employees and they are all the backbone to me guiding my business in a positive direction. I recently found out that the new corporate has punished all employees doing the management with there yearly bonus for doing good work forthw customer. Instead they should have evaluated how each employee was performing for the company and adjust there bonus accordingly instead of running the good employees to competitors. The Clarksville tn store makes per capita profit among all stores above and beyond yet they are punished. Sad to see happen. There are smarter ways to cut cost and make a Difference. I hope the CEO will see this and care to pay attention before it is too late and the good managers have to leave to go to work for competition. That's all I have to comment on folks. Have a great day.
I have always been a huge JC Penney fan until they made all the recent changes. I'm not sure what the CEO was thinking when he made Ellen the spokesperson. I have not seen one good change yet. The clothes are CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP. The shoe department is awful. And then I get a MAY catalog in which has nothing I would want in it, AND has one page with a woman and her "partner". I will be cutting up my credit card, and will not be shopping at JC Penney any more. It's sad, but I really feel this store will go out of business. I will be shopping at Dillard's and Belk.
