If I could rate this manager without any stars I would!! I have never had a problem at this store before, I have shopped there for many many years all the employees have always been more than helpful. However, there is a new manager there I believe her name was either Donna or Diana from what my girlfriend had told me she used to be at the Frackville store and is now at the Pottsville store. This girl and I say girl because that is in fact what she was acted like nothing more than an immature high school girl on a power trip! If that is how this shoe store now has management running things and talking down to their customers I assure this company will be broke!! You can only sell something so long with a poor attitude backing up the product before the product fails and this managers attitude does not belong doing this job! She should be back to the lowest position if she wants to keep her job!! I have been trying to contact the company regarding this women I would LOVE to file a formal complaint although I don't know how to go about it or if the suites would even care! If anyone has any suggestions or has had a similar problem with this women I would love to read about it...

Its not a minimum wage job people are still getting paid 7.55! Its horrible i was there for four years and one of the best workers and i was still at 7.80! Its a greedy unorganized company! SORRY! I'm glad im out of there. And im sorry to all of you that have had a bad shopping experience, I agree some associates need to be retrained or just terminated! Plain and simple.

I've had many bad instances with my manager. I am very disappointed in the lack of communication and respect she gives. I have worked in other retail jobs and I have always been treated with respect. Every time I work with my manager, she just stands there or hovers over me, but never helps any of the other customers. If I'm tasking, and she's been there all day, she repeatedly come over and give me crap about how I'm still working on tasks. (I finish my tasks by close, but I only work about three hours at a time compared to her 9 hours before I come in! Obviously she'd be done hours before.) Payless and my manager are very cheap. She promised all employees quarterly reviews at hire, however I have been working over a year and have not been called in for a review, and neither has the other guy who has worked there for two years. She also lies about the hours she works. I don't know if it is common for managers to do this at Payless, but if she wants to leave early, she won't sign out, she'll just leave. And then before Saturday night, she'll fix the time sheets to what she was supposed to work to get more hours. The thing that happened just this week that has me really angry is how hypocritically she acted. A mom and three kids had come shopping. Originally I helped the family get all their needs. Then my manager started chatting up a storm with the mom even though there were plenty of other customers to help. She talked to the mom for a good forty minutes. In those forty minutes, I had to play babysitter. I was not hired to be a babysitter for minimum wage. In that time frame, I had to watch the kids and try to keep them calm. However the kids needed to go to the bathroom, and instead of letting the mom go, my manager proceeded to make ME take the kids to the bathroom. It was humiliating taking the kids to the bathroom and having to go in and flush the toilet one by one and help them wash their hands. After that was all over and the family left, the store was a mess. But my manager made no effort to help me clean up. Instead, while I was helping another customer get some shoes down from the top stock, she came over and yelled at me that I was talking too much. HOW AWFULLY IRONIC! Me, talking too much? When I was just getting more shoes for a customer because the DUMB CHEAP COMPANY stresses the sales of UPTs and I have to keep them up or my manager will come calling me out. And all along, she was just standing there talking, or waiting for the next customer she could talk to. I can't even begin to describe how rude my manager is to me or the other associates. I truly feel bad for them since a lot of them are quiet and don't try to talk to her. She says she has an open door policy, but that is a ton of crap. I have tried to talk to her many times and she merely ignores me and tells me that I'm out of line to tell her my opinion of the situations in the store. Shouldn't the manager want her associates to be happy? All she does is coast through this job. And I don't feel sorry for her. She's 38 and a manager at Payless. I'm a high school student and I'm going off to school next year. I know I'm going to have a way better job when I'm 38. She might treat me and the other employees like dirt, but at least we'll all be going places unlike her.

I visited the Raytown, Missouri store yesterday. I was looking for shoes for my grandchildren. I asked the girl in the isle sitting on a bench if she worked here, she said yes, I asked her for assistance she said the other lady working there would help me. I was outraged, this girl was sitting on a bench reading a book. The other lady, Ruth was very very nice, she helped me with everything. She was also a grandmother and showed me everything and even looked for different shoes that was not on the shelf. She was a jewel. Payless needs more people like Ruth who care about their job instead of the employee sitting on a bench in the middle of the isle reading a book and not willing to help people. That girl should be fired. This is just wrong. I was so grateful for Ruth's help. Maybe Payless needs to hire more mature people like Ruth who truly want to help people. I visit that store frequently because I have 5 grandchildren and they always need shoes. If I go in there and that girl is there I will leave or ask for Ruth. That girl was very rude. Isn't she there to do a job? She is getting paid for reading a book? What a great job for her. I did not appreciate it at all, but I love that store it is close to home for me and I always get great customer service there. My hat is off to Ruth for being a great and treasured employee especially at her age.

We actually do go through customer service classes. I would like to know how many of you that complained have ever worked retail? Especially in a retail business that is very much needed? Money dooesn't go back on cards that day. Reason: The credit card company puts it back in your account. It is not that stores WANT you to shop online. If you know anything about business, you know that it does a store no good to carry large amounts of something if they're not being sold. The more people buy a size, the more shoes & styles we receive in that size. How many of you have had horrible experiences at Wal-Mart? Let me guess... You still shop there. You should remember that not every store is the same. Many of us take pride in our jobs and for you to bad mouth an entire corperation is ridiculous. As for some of you, I think you just seem unhappy and I bet you are that person that when you walk into any store you shop in a regular basis, people say, "oh great... here she comes." I am a employee at payless in district heights md and the store manager and dm are like best friends. The store manager is rude and nasty she don't want the employees being friends so she always have he say, she say n then lies about it. She has lost 4 employees so far n 3 more are threatening to quit. She threatens to call corporate on us but never does. She threatens write ups and when the register comes up short she never holds herself responsible when she has worked on it too. She embarrasses us in front of customers and gives young employees special treatment one employee has more kids then any other employee she has but this girl works 47 to 55 hours a week. She was denied early fridays so she could pick her kids up from school. She has friends n family checking up on her employees and its demeaning HELP cause the DM is on her side

So at the Payless where I work, I had a six hour shift (for the first time, finally since they are so cheap) and so was granted an hour for lunch. I thought clocking out for an hour was given for a full time shift? I think they are giving a whole hour because they're too damn cheap to pay me for an extra half an hour or hour. And I get weird hours like say, 4:30-8:20 (when we usually close at 8:30 pm because we are in the mall and the mall closes at 9. Are they cheap or what? Gosh.

PAYLESS STORE IN JAMAICA PLAIN, MA ON CENTER STREET MANAGED BY JORGE NEEDS SOME ATTENTION. THE MANAGER IS NEVER THERE AND LEAVES 19 AND 20 YR OLDS TO RUN THE STORE. Well ladies and gentleman I have been working for Payless for 7 years now and I will tell u its not easy. It has its pro and cons but more cons than anything else. I believe I do great customer service and I put myself out there for my customers as well as for my employees. It is not easy dealing with customers! After reading some complaints I will have to say that those r my cons about Payless.....u get upset for stupid reasons and u always want to take it to the next level just because!.... I respect u no matter what but knowing that u r the customer, you feel u have the right to disrespect me and get away with it. You don't know what goes on in the store and what we have to go thru just so u can buy a 14.99 pair of shoes! And trust me its not heaven!. We are underpay, and holidays are not holidays for this company. So we work it knowing that's it is not holiday pay. We have to deal with horrible DM's who overall get away with things that are unfair to us but we can't complain because 2 things will happen...-nothning and we get in trouble for speaking up or they will call him/her and tell them what was said and who said it! With this said and more that I won't write, please consider us and don't make us like we r bad. You have ur days just like we have our days. And no one deserves to be disrespected

I buy a lot of stuff at payless. But your store in the ambassador plaza in mobile al I was in there and one of the girls that works there was drunk are on drugs she look liked she has not been a sleep in a week I asked her if she could help me look for some shoes for me kids and I could not even understand her what she was saying she keekeep closing her eyes and falling a sleep when I was talking to her and what she didid talk she was talking about something other the what I was asking her she would ttalk about the windows and how clean they was I don't understand what's going on there but I will not go back to payless shoes source ever again if that what I have to deal with

Last week I was shopping at a Payless in Erie, Pa, we have 4 stores all together in Erie and I have shopped at every single store since I love Payless and will get my shoes no where else, but anyways I went into the store in out K Mart shopping plaza here last Tuesday and the young blonde girl who was working greeted me at the door as soon as I stepped in, don't get that much these days, she asked me what I was looking for and took me right where I needed to be and pulled a couple shoes off the rack and actually told me about the shoes! Like the comfort of them, how popular they were and everything, I was just so pleased with this because I have never had a Payless employee do this before, she even gave me her name and said "Try some of these on and ill be right back to check on you" and she did and even took the ones I had tried on and wanted to buy up to the counter for me. This young lady talked to me as a human and as if I were a friend and not just a customer, I was very pleased with the service I had gotten that day and now that Payless store is the only one I will go back too. The young lady s name was Shannon, I don't know her last name but she did have that customer comes first attitude and I had even told her this myself while she was cashing me out. I read some of the compliants on here and I'm dumbfounded because my experience was totally different, but I wanted to let everyone know that I'm sure they re some bad stores out there, but there's some that are an ultimate joy to shop at.

I was on a recent trip to the Lufkin Texas store with my children ages 9 and 3. I tried on several pair of shoe and found nothing I wanted. While trying on these shoes, I am trying to stop my 3 year old who wants to run and fighting with his sister about who is going to eat the last cookie from Cookie Advantage. All the while the store clerks keep walking by and on the aisle with me. Finally I asked her if what was on the shelf the last of the size I needed. She proceed to tell me yes and I turned around and left the store with both associates looking at me leave. My kids and I continued to walk do the mall at a leisure pace. When I came back towards the Payless store. The associate walks up behind me calling out "excuse me Ma'am did you leave something in the store". After check to make sure I had all my personal property( keys, cell phone, purse and bag from another store.)I told her no. She then tells me that I did leave some thing... a empty box. My reply was no I don't know what your talking about. This associate then accused me of stealing a pair of shoes. She then tells me she needs to find security to request that I no longer be able to shop in that payless. All this time a group of people have gathered to see whats going on. I am in the common area of the mall. I am total embarrassed and upset that I have been accused of stealing. I don't steal and I had my children with me. After security shows up, I tell what happen and explain that I didn't steal the shoes. I tell them if I stole the shoes where are they? I asked them to show me the security cameras because I know I didn't steal. He tells me there are no cameras. What? I tell him you can search my stuff if you need to. I give security my purse and the one bag I have from Sears and they refuse to search my stuff or person for the stolen property. Wow I have never heard of that happen. When I asked if they were looking for the thief with the same color clothing that I had I was told no. But they did proceed to write me a warning telling me not to come to that store again or I will be arrested. Are you serious! I will no longer be shopping at Payless. I have and will inform anyone who will listen to not shop at Payless. I can by cheap shoes somewhere else.

I bought a pair of casual boots for my daughter. She wore them not even 3 weeks and the seem on the one boot completely fell apart. I no longer had the receipt or the box and they had been worn so I did not even think of bringing them back to the store. I called the corporate office to complain. I was told they could have been returned to the store for an exchange. well they were thrown in the trash a week ago. Corporate told me that they hope I would return and that please know that if that was to ever happen again they can be exchanged. WHAT???? Am I happy????? No coupon, no nothing!!!! NO I AM NOT HAPPY with the service I received. I have been a long time payless customer but NEVER AGAIN!!!!!

I worked for payless for 10+ years! starter as a sales associate and ended as assistant manager (acting manager for about tree years!) Thought that by working hard doing your best for a company would appreciate you, but NNNOOOTTT!!! They would make us work by ourselves, demand customer service,work on shipments, displays,sales,demand three pair of items per transaction and if you didnt look out! WRITEUP!! BECAUSE YOU WERENT DOINT YOUR JOB! the worst part was that my Supervisor wanted things his way, not company's way, would threaten you with "The same way I can help you to move up in this company, I can make it hell for you!" Is this how they wanted to promote a service with a smile! I know one thing "I WILL NEVER STEP FOOT INA PAYLESS SHOE SOURCE STORE EVER AGAIN AS AN EMPLOYEE OR AS A CUSTOMER!"

I will never set foot in the Payless Shoe Store in Moses Lake WA again. I went in there looking for a pair of dress shoes for a wedding. The man working (who I discovered was the manager) was extremely rude to me and my mother. I ask for the help of someone else as he was being so hostile and he told us he would escort us out and we could take our hispanic business elsewhere and not to come back to HIS store. I will do that Mr Manager, and never cross the door there again until you sir are gone. I have always shopped there and had great service in the past with the other women who apparently are no longer there. What is wrong with this company that they would allow someone to work for them with that hostile attitude.

The Payless in Moses Lake WA is awful. I was in there today when the manager was yelling at an employee (Dec 23). She was being let go from the sound of it and asking him to show her what she was suspose to have done and he told her he would escort her out of the store and that poor girl didnt even have her coat when he made her leave. And I was out in the store but I could hear him yelling from the back of the store If this is what Payless does then they shouldnt be in business. I have seen other posts on this site concerning the Moses Lake WA store. It is a place people are degraded as employees but it looks like the customers are also. Maybe the company should actually read these posts maybe they would learn about who they have working for them. I felt so sorry for that poor girl and he just watched through the window laughing as she stood outside. Then made a comment to the jest of no one would make him look bad because it was his store.

I have worked in Payless for 2 and a half weeks and I am not happy with it. My manager is not organized at all and is to worried about her husband and going to the club! She cusses around me thinking its ok and also thinks its ok to leave me in the store for almost 3 hours when she has not properly trained me. I am very frusturated with this because i should be doing way more stuff in helping the store and customers. When i ask for help on the registrar she does it for me and doesn't even show me the steps to do it. She is not training me on what i should be doing. I am confused each time she talks to me because she doesn't explain herself well in giving directions. She is so worried about her employees coming to work but she doesn't look at herself. She says she works a full 40 hour shift plus overtime, but from the 2 1/2 weeks i have been there i have been working quit a bit, she has left the store numerous of times while not clocking out. Yesturday when i work it said that she worked from 9:00a.m.-9:15p.m. But when i arrived at the store, which was at 2:30, she left me there after 30 minutes alone and came back around 7:41pm to get something and left. Then when she came back at closing shift i was behind her to clock out of my shift, she as well was clocking out. She is getting money for the hours she doesn't even put in. I am trying to attend school as well and at my interview i told her i was going to get ready for these last 2 weeks to get everything finished and she said thats fine. So yesturday i went to school and told her i would be there at 3 and she flipped out saying you need to be here at 2 and started cussing at me saying i was messing up her schedule and saying why i couldn't tell her before and threatining me that she was going to fire me. So i explained to her that my schedule said 3 and she said no it did not. so i left school early because i went with her word. So when i arrived to work at 2:30 i went in the back because i knew for sure it was 3, and of course i was right. there is so many other things she has done that it is to much to write. but basically i am 18 years old and cares more about my job that my manger who is 26. she is more worried about her friends, clubbing, drinking, and her husbamd. and that is not acceptable. Corprate really needs to fire her because she is not a good manager at all.

The jacksonville north carolina store off western had excellent customer service was excellent! The 2 gentelmen where reallly professional and helpful. I will definitlery be back there again!
