When La Fitness took over they closed a few Bally locations & announced that they wouldn't close anymore. A few members called & was assured that ours wouldn't be closing yet on Monday we find a note saying that we have till the end of the month .Currently we have access to an indoor pool, steam room,lg sauna, track, the club that they are sending us to doesn't have any of the amenities neither is it convenient. The other option would be to join LA Fitness in Livonia which still doesn't offer half of the amenities. We feel jipped &outraged at this decision as though we are being strong armed into opening membership at LA Fitness for a more money when indeed if Bally is now LA Fitness there should be no distinction between the two clubs. Many members have been there for 30yrs to lose this club is devastating it is a great club, we are like a family, We are confused as to why they even bothered to buy Bally out if they were only going to close them down in less than a month.

The customer service manager at hialeah la fitness, named jaime, she is the worst manager handling problems with members.

When I signed up for LA Fitness, I was told many things by the "sales manager" (turned out to be the GM of the gym. I told him before I switch gyms, I needed to know about wait times as I have very little time with a bust schedule with my son. After promising no wait times, a claim that the gym was "family friendly" and there would be lots of lockers for me to use I signed. I was able to go the next day and had the following things happen. There was not one locker available, and my usual 45 minute routine too one hour and forty minutes due to waiting for equipment and benches. The next day I again went and had to share a locker with a friend because it was the only one available. After another long wait period I got my son from the child area and went to shoot hoops with him to be denied access to the facilities with my son. I relayed that this was not for me, and wanted to cancel my account and get my refund, I was told that they already cancelled me, and that I was on day 4 of signing and the contract states 3 days. (mind you it was at 8:30 at night, and apparently that was my first day) I spoke to the rep who signed me up ( the GM ) and he said I don't want your money, you will get a refund in 5-7 days. He then told me , it was state law that they only give us 3 days to cancel. He then said that no gyms in the state are family friendly. After the 7 days were up I called asking where the refund was only to be told the GM had just left for the day and that there was no refund ever listed to my cancelled account. I called his cell phone from a friend's cell * he was blocking my cell phone* and he answered and he said he put it in and Corporate had denied his request for my refund. He then said good luck calling corporate for any refunds because he was the top selling gym in the Dallas market. FYI this is the McKinney, TX LA Fitness.

as far as the gym goes its nice.i work out with a friend whos getting ready for a fittness contest.was told i could not do that. i use the gym in avon indiana.the trainers here are total joke .anybody can pay afew hundred bucks,pass a test and become a trainer . ive been doing this for 25 years and i for think you shoud know what youre doing and look the part.these people here doesent have a clue and the corparate office should be ashamed of scaming people out of thier money

LA Fitness - Encinitas was the first LA Fitness in San Diego. When it new over 10 years ago it was clean, equipment was maintained, friendly staff and so on. This location needs a serious update or and over haul. Maybe the Corporate office will put in there plan to Remodel this location soon. Oh, there has been a leak for months now and since it was not taken care of immediately the carpet stain looks terrible and needs to be replaced. Hope LA Fitness Corporate looks at there remodel budget for this Encinitas - needs help. By the ways, the staff is very friendly no matter what time I arrive am/pm. Good Job!

Since the Bally's closed and the members were granted access to the Mt Laurel NJ location,the club has gone downhill. It is extremely crowded at any time during the day to the point where they limit the cardio equipment to 20 mins/person. The condition of the equipment and cleanliness of the place is appalling, and the club is so poorly run. It seems like when you ask to speak to a manager anyone that works there is "the manager". The classes on the weekends are so crowded you are forced to wait in line, sometimes for 20 mins to sign up. Most of the spin bikes are broken- no tension, handle bars that don't raise, seats that are broken. As soon as the new Virtua opens LA Fitness is going to lose most of its memebers.

I'm disgusted with the Television programming while working out. All the news channels are MSNBC or CNN. I asked that they turn one of the TV’s to Fox News and was told that the corporate office has banned Fox from being turned on in any LA Fitness. Is this true?? Had I known, I wouldn't have signed up. I don't care if you have CNN or MSNBC, but allow those working out to also experience and watch the other side of those Liberal programs.

I was Bally Fitness member for few years and was very happy..., in 2010 LA Fitness took over.. and nightmare began... LA Fitness can not possibly accomodate everyone that was joining Ballys 3 locations that was closed. Parking spaces is a problem every day, gym is not clean, bathrooms 90 % of the time have no seat covers, stinks and durty. Equipment are old and a lot of them out of order, so therefore you have to wait for machine to use sometimes up to 15 minutes... Aerobick room have no music for a week...Microfone in the Cycle room does not work very often... Everything is so poor managed..Club is durty and no music playing in workout areas... So missed my Bally gym...was so clen, friendly and organazed...

We wanted to use the promotion of Golds gym which they provide. It is first testing free week when you go to the gym, try all things and then you can decide you like it or no. We come to the club and one worker spend with us almost 1,5 hours explaining about sport club rules, in our conversation we explained him that we do not have time but we stayed polite and listened to him. He said he must prepare documents to participate for a first testing week and after if we like we can keep going and we will not have any documents to prepare after. If we do not like he explained we can cancel at anytime. I am pregnant and I explained to him that I probably will not find any service for me, because they do not have any program for a pregnant women, but we agreed that I will try yoga and the swimming pool. Finaly, we went to a gym and started it first day and in time we had training he prepared a documents for us and asked us to sign when we finished and come back to him. After we finished my friend shoes were stolen. We were very unhappy, but we signed papers and agreed that we will wait untill he give us a call and inform us if they found shoes. We explained that then we will make our decision if we want to come here again or no. Stuff told us that they will call us and will inform if they will be found. Of course we did not get any call. I was waiting for a call and of course we did not come back to a gym becuase my friend do not had shoes and we simply looked for another option which is more safe. As we had documents for first tasting week i called them telling we want to cancel because we do not want to participate anymore. They told that I can not cancel by phone. I find time and I went to the gym to cancel papers. I arrived and I spoke with 3 people until they asked to come the person with who I spoke. I was waiting for him for about half hour. After he came, I explained once again that I want to cancel documents which he prepared and then he told us that a period of cancelation had past. I told him that we do not spoke about any period and about any contract for wich we have period to cancel. He did not listened to me. Then I asked to explain my situation to a manager of a gym and I asked to participate in conversation, but he did not let me to do it. I explained that I have no time and I come just to cancel papers what he give us to sign for a testing first free week. He did not listened. He went to a manager and come bach after 10 minuttes telling me that he can not cancel a contract because period of cancelation had past. He listened our story, asked for a person with who we spoke to come, told sorry for probably missunderstanding and explained us that we need to get a proof that we called to the gym before comming or I must get a paper from a doctor that I am pregnant and I can not participate a gym. He asked us to work and to find a way how he can finish a contract. We were tired of all these things happening and we explained that, my friend is a very busy person but these explanations does not made any sense to them. So we stayed with papers, 1000 dollars payed and with a work to find an opption to a manager of a club to cancel a contract.

I have been a member of my gym since 1989 in Oregon, which has transitioned over time into Ballys. This purchase has been handled so poorly. After closing the two locations I used and displacing the instructors,I found out today that two of the 3 remaining Bally locations within 10 miles of me are being closed. LA fitness facilities are nice, but can not handle the amount of Bally members. There is not enough parking, equipment, quality classes... Communication has been horrible. Even instructors are not told when clubs are to be closed. This has been the worst! Shame on you LA Fitness!!! Are they listening?

I used to be a member at Bally for over 20 years in one of Michigan clubs. I changed over to LA fitness to have better equipment, better lockers, better programs, and better sanitary conditions (bath rooms). Bally try to get me to come back for $99/ year and I rejected their offers 4 times. I pay more than double this a mount a year to LA fitness in addition to my $250 registration fees. I am very disappointed with the way LA fitness is handling the acquisition of Bally. Now Bally members can join LA fitness at their low rates. Some even pay $36 or $48/ Year life time membership. Also, All LA fitness club now have been invaded by Bally members at these low fees and there are no equipments to work out, bath rooms are overcrowded and stink, and there are not even enough lockers. In some clubs people have to wait to get on the treadmills... This is unacceptable... Good High paid LA original members will quit this club and LA fitness will be stuck with Bally low paid members... Let's see how they are going to handle that... I WANT MY LA FITNESS CLUB BACK...

The situation in the Michigan LA Fitness clubs is officially “unsustainable”. That is due to the first month of the year being busy, and most importantly the Exodus of the low paid Bally members into LA fitness. All the promises made by LA Fitness to me during my call with them seem to be not true. Bally members will continue to pay as low as $3/ month for their life time membership while we LA... fitness members must continue to support them through our high paid memberships. This is not the American way of doing business and simply unacceptable. I am finding it harder and harder to find a machine to work out on, place to park, locker for my belongings, and have no space that use to be abundant before to work out. I am very frustrated with LA Fitness wisdom in acquiring Bally. Bally club was on its way down financially anyway. Some LA fitness clubs are now “Premiere” clubs (you must pay $10 monthly additional for your membership) in an attempt to restrict people from coming in. I hope in the next couple of months, different decisions will be made to help reduce this situation that is yielding dirty bathrooms and bad conditions to work out. AGAIN, I WANT MY OLD CLUB BACK. I go to the club at 5 Am. Even at that time I saw people walking in at the rate of one person per 20 sec. By 6 AM the club had over 150 people working out and I had to wait to get to the showers. REMEMBER again this was at 5 Am. Imagine the situation after work or later in the morning. It will be 3 to 4 times worse. I appeal to LA fitness to reconsider their decision before their club go down just like any other health clubs that were not managed wisely.

I am in agrement with the other felow that questions who Jeff Levy is. Why is he doing this in the first place? First he changes his mind abrutly and now has closed the ballyssuit.com site. Something very fishy is going on here.

Holmdel NJ memeber for 2 years. have watched the club slowly deterioate. equipment squeeking. locker rooms unkept. the repetative over chead club music is an annoying distraction. several attemps at notifiying club manager. was told music is piped in from "LA Fitness" music channel. if so i would fire the lot of them. tired of hearing party in the usa, i am so untouched. tonight is going to be a good night. same crap over and over. Spend a few bucks and get sirus satalite at least the music will vary.

I purchased a years worth of tanning October 3rd 2011 and when LA Fitness took over Dec 1st they removed the tanning beds. I paid $287 for two months of tanning and both LA Fitness and Ballys say the other owes me a refund. Can't get a hold of either corporate office for a definitive answer as to who actually owes me a refund. Any ideas as to who is responsible?

Rated one star because of inability to contact anyone with authority about issues at the club. The local club manager has limited authority to act independently. Most requests for information about the club are refused because they don't know the answers and say that corporate is in charge and does what they want when they want without notifying the local staff. Today I told the front desk person about the problem I describe ahead. She asked if I contacted Corporate about it, which surprised me as I'm not able to get a corporate phone number. She gave me the "corporate" phone number, but I found out is was the customer service line, as I was placed on hold because "all operators were busy". My current beef is that a major renovation was completed two months ago. The interior and exterior of the facility was completely renovated. New equipment was installed and carpeting was put down in the locker rooms One of the cheapest things to fix that has been irking the members is the shower heads have been malfunctioning for months. They were not replaced and, again, the staff says that corporate didn't include that in the work order and they will not be fixed. I'm amazed that a company that has such little respect for its members has prospered like this one. They should be ashamed of themselves.

MANAGERS AND STAFF STEAL FROM MEMBERS BY BREAKIN INTO THEIR LOCKERS AND CARS. YIKES. STAY AWAY FROM LA FITNESS.
