I am a United States Marine Corps disabled Veteran. I bought a "99 Harley Davidson Sportster 1200 xl sport" from someone on craigslist. After putting over $2500.00 into extras to make it a nice looking bike the Head gasket went out. I have a small engine mechanic take the motor apart and I ordered all the gaskets for the front side of the motor from the Redding Harley Davidson parts counter. The parts counter gave me the XL 883 Cylinder base gasket instead of the 1200 gasket. The gasket that was there originally was completely demolished so my mechanic had nothing to match the new gasket to and going off the good word from the parts clerk at the Redding Harley Davidson, we were under the impression that we were given the correct part. After my mechanic put the new gasket on and put the bike back together, there was a huge oil leak after a ten minute test drive. So my mechanic then pulled the motor back apart to find that the gasket had torn apart. So we took that gasket back into the Harley Davidson parts counter where they figured out they gave us the wrong gasket to begin with. All the other gaskets they gave us were for a 1200, accept for the Cylinder Base gasket. So they gave me a new 1200 gasket. When my mechanic put the new gasket to and started the bike it now has a knocking in the motor. He then pulled it apart again and fond out the piston was messed up from putting the wrong gasket on in the first place. I went into the Redding Harley Davidson today and asked them to make it right by bringing my bike in there and to fix it for me. I was completely shot down; even though they know they gave us the wrong part to begin with. I did get heated and chewed them out and walked out before I did something I would regret. I am very disappointed and will never shop at their business again. I will never recommend any business to them again. In my eyes the Harley Davidson name is Tainted. I bought this bike for $3500.00 I put around $2500.00 of extras into it. I paid a mechanic $300.00 to install the new gaskets, and $54.85 for the new gaskets. I have only had the bike for 3 months and put around $6000.00 into it total, and yet my Harley is still sitting in a garage broke down and I am now flat broke! and I am still walking! I don’t know if the Harley Davidson Corporate office cares, but I was denied help in my opinion My bike should be getting fixed and the clerk who sold me the wrong part should have to pay for it. But the Harley Davidson who sold me the Wrong part doesn’t care and won’t do anything to help me! and buying a Harley Davidson is no longer worth it to me! My email is sgtmab@hotmail.com
My wife and I recently got stuck at a dealership in SC due to heavy rain. We have never owned rain gear but the rain set in as a light but steady rain. We decided to buy rain gear from HD and set out for home. My suit was $225 and my wifes was $150. Twenty minutes into the ride home we were soaked. We pulled over and water was coming through the material. I expect to get some water in through seams or cracks from the force of the wind maybe. But we were drenched. HD's clothing is getting worse and worse. This isnt the first time we have had to bring things back. We just got a refund and went to Wal Mart and purchased $30 rainsuits that were black. A week later we had the chance to test them out. I got wet very slightly around my wrists and ankles. My wife was dry as a bone. $30 and they worked great! HD come on!
I have an '09 softtail and let me tell you I will never ever purchase another one again. If you plan on putting parts on your bike you better be prepared to buy additional items. Everytime we bought a part and the dealership states..."ohh thats all you need" BULL SHIT!!!! we have always had to buy another part but didnt know that until we opened up the box and read the instructions. OMG seriously how hard is it to put information like that on the outside of the box. Harley davison is so over rated and Im thinking Goldwing in the future.
I recently bought a 2002 Vrod from Frontier Harley Davidson in Lincoln Nebraska. After 218 miles I could not get it to shift into second or third etc. I took the bike to JL Harley Davidson in Sioux Falls SD and Yogi was absolutely the best to work with. I from there talked to Frontier and they said ok well we will send you a check for 800 to help get it fixed. I ended up taking the bike to Stutsman Harley Davidson in Jamestown ND just because of all the good things I have heard. I have been nothing but delighted with these guys, they have the best customer service I have ever seen. Then we look at the Frontier side and they rip me off by only paying 430 dollars and stick me with the rest. I have never paid this amount of money for anything and been screwed over this bad. If Harley Davidson as a whole does not get thier shit together customers are going to really start turning to bikes such as Victory and others... I will never purchase from anyone besides Stutsman and will never again deal with Frontier..... I put it all on the owners ... cheap pieces of shit....
I recently purchased a 2012 HD Tri-Glide(Trike). This is my fourth bike.To my amazement also as above only one headset. The radio is so funny about MP3 burnt cds that I gave up on it and stuck with 20 or so song cds. Also to upgrade to sirius was over a grand. The right side exhaust is so hot that its almost unbearable on 85 degree plus days. Theres a rattle coming from the back. The worst is the embaressment of the rear brakes squeeling at any speed. The dealership said the headset, the radio and the exhaust I would have to live with it.Try wrapping the exhaust. The rattle could never be found but could be heard. The brakes are typical of all touring models and have been cleaned and it worked for 100 miles. And I paid $30,000 plus for all this shabby engineering. HD has great, loyal customers and also some great and helpful dealerships. But sometimes their hands are tied. HD should step up and live up to the brand that is loved and cherished by more people than any other known brand in the world. It is also the only brand in the world displayed in a tattoo more than any other. Except maybe MOM. HD step up and live up to the brand, the name and the heritage that was started over 108 years ago and has been kept alive by its loyal customers.
If you have a bike and its NOT Brand new.. Check this out... Harley tells its dealerships to 2X the labor hour rates. So, if you want a new trans, and the labor hours are 4.9 in the book, guess what? You pay for 8 hours.. Nice huh.. Time for me to quit the dealership
i would like to know the normal turnaround for replacing inner primary bearing on 09 ultra is it more than one week? or does the dealer have to order the parts from china
I currently own a 2009 Road king purchased new from Chesapeake Harley Davidson, I purchased a 2009 1200 Sporster for my wife from Chesapeake as well. We have had a continual problem with this bike since the fall of last year, the bike will loose charge and completely kill the battery. We have had the bike to Chesapeake 5 seperate times and still have no resolve the last words from the service department on friday were they do not know what is wrong with the bike and to come and pick it up (WHAT) I have been more than resonable about this situation but really this is rediculous. My wife is very put out by this, she loves this bike and rides more than me. I purchased the bike with an extended warranty so any issues would be taken care of. We are faithful to our dealer and have extended them every opportunity to repairthis bike, now I am reaching out to the corporate offices of Harley Davidson for satisfaction in this matter again trying to be understanding but we have a large ride scheduled to New Yorkthe first week of August and cannot trust the bike to complete the journey. We are asking please that someone from Harley Dsvidson make this right.

Does anyone have any recommendations on where i can get my bike serviced at in Northern VA. I know there are a few HD dealers in my area but I have not heard any positive feedback.
Bought a defective Harley new in 2010. All kinds of problems from the start. CAN NOT GET SATISFACTORY CUSTOMER SERVICE! This is how guys end up buying another brand. Please stop this madness. 907 854 4373.
I have owned Harley's since the 70's. Just traded a 2008 Ultra Classic for a 2012 Road King Classic. The leather on the saddle bag is bubbled up and Harley refuses to correct the problem or replace the saddle bag. They claim this is natural to happen. I owned a 2000 Road King Classic for 8 years. Not one ripple in the leather. In over 30 years I have never seen a leather bag on a Harley that has bubbles in the leather. This one is about 3/4" high, 3/4" wide and about 6-7 inches long. Plus on the front corners the leather is loose. Harley absolutely refuses to help with this problem or correct it. This problem is being caused by inferior materials and a change in the way the leather is being applied. They refuse to admit that. Pay $20,000 for a new bike and have it look like crap before it leaves the showroom. This is how the Harley Company treats customers now and provides customer service After you invest $20,000 in their product. They should be ashamed and embarrassed to sell a defective product like that.
As an old Harley rider and U.S. Marine Corps veteran I never thought I would be writing something like this. Every year myself, my wife and about 20 other Harley bikers make a run to Nashville Tn. from Illinois on a Friday. Every year we stop at Four Rivers Harley Davidson in Paducah Kentucky, the half way point for us on a 4 hour ride. This year, as I was pulling into the parking lot my 2008 Harley Ultra Classic Trike went in to idle mode...I had no throttle control. I went to the parts desk and explained my problem...out of towner with a big group of other bikes and this gentleman told me it sounds like a "fly wire" problem and sent me to the service department. The service department told me to go get a bite to eat and come back in an hour. I did....they told me my throttle sensor had gone out and that I was good to go. After paying $247.00 we were on our way. I get 16 miles down the road and the same thing happens. I called them up and told them they would have to come pick up the bike. They did...thank god we had a support vehicle following us so me and the ole lady road with them to Nashville and let them keep the bike untill Sunday. We road back in the support vehicle and stopped at Four Rivers to pick up the bike. They told me that my problem wasn't my throttle sensor but a dirty air cleaner and charged me another $100.00. So now I'm into them for $350.00 and am on my way. I get 40 miles from home and guess what..same thing happens..luckily I idle'd into a biker bar!!!! Called them back and they came and got the bike...again. Then I called them today (Monday)and talked to the service manager...he tells me it was a bad "fly wire" after all...exactly what the parts manager told me. I asked him what he was going to do about the $350.00 of parts and labor I didn't need...he told me in not so nice a way that he would put my old stuff back on!!!! Wow...then as a side note, to add insult to injury they had my bike the whole weekend and didn't even clean it up before I picked it up!!!! Beware my biker brothers and sisters, I hope the Corporate Headquarters reads this and comes to a brothers aid. I'm out and my crew will never stop there again!!!!
Harley World Okla.City Ok. I have a 1993 Dresser with 124,000. It started a leak on the garage floor. I took it to HD world OKC for repairs on April 2 2012 They said they would start on April 4.Imarked where the leak was comming from. They told me I was wrong and it was leaking from cylinder base gasket. Ok fix it. 21 days later They call the is ready. (that is after 4 or 5 call checking on what was the problem and given the run-a-round and lied to) put 350 miles and the new base gaskets are leaking bad. take it back want to install diffent type base gasket. OK what ever just fix it. 7 days later they call and tell me my cylnder bases need to be trued up. I reguest 2 different mechanic work on the bike-that didnt happen. I maked where the leak was-they said I was wrong. They sucked me in opening my wallet and I gant get they out. Oh we wont go into the valve job that was supose to happen, but when I got my frist bill there in sign of anything on my bill (valve grinding, new guides, keepers)DO NOT TAKE YOUR BIKE HERE THEY ARE LIERS
Purchased 09 Ultra Classic from El Cajon Harley Davidson April 09 as of May 2012 the f-ing throttle has gone out 12 times after 11th time which was the 5th time in one day, i was done with it got on freeway after resetting throttle(to take the bike back to harley and demand a new one). With a Semi-Truck behind me the throttle went out again in turn i had to kick a car to my right to get out of the way or i was going to run down by the truck! The bike has been in the 3 times to fix problem! 12 time is 11 to many for told El Cajon Harley make it right! All they wanted to do was put on a new bike paying more money and no concessions! What has happened to this country where no one stands behind there products and customer service is customer "I'm stick it to hard service" Anyone who has thoughts of purchasing a bike or taking there bike to be service at El Cajon Harley should think twice about it!
I want the folks to know at corporate about Harley Davidson San Diego's Service Manager Jason Orsborn. I took my 2005 Softail in for service. One of the heads was stripped where the plug goes. This is a problem sometimes faced. A $1000 problem. Jason made it right for me and I thank him. My bike also suffered a ding on the paint on the tank near that head. Jason offered to repair the ding that included painting the tank over if needed to satisfy me. It was in an inconspicuous spot and I declined the offer. Jason was courteous and professional. I will refer this dealership to my friends and buy my future bikes here. Thank you Jason Orsborn.
This sorry poor rating is for the Harley Davidson dealership in South Jackson Mississippi. This has to be the worst service oriented dealership I have every had the displeasure of dealing with. I purchased a 2011 super glide in August of 2010, three week ago the front seal blew and It's been in the shop since then. I really don't understand why it would take 2 to 3 week for a simple little part like that to be shipped in. Every time I call to check on the status of my bike, the response I get is (the part hasn't come in yet). This is crazy and the head mechanic is just giving customers the run around and blowing smoke up their butts. That whole crew at this dealership acts as if they are doing you a favor for letting you spend your hard earned money with them. This needs to be addressed and for my part, that mechanic should be fired for the way he and others at this dealership treat customers. I have talked to other harley riders that have had anything but a bad experience at the South Jackson Harley dealership. Once I get my bike back from this sorry crew of jerks, I'll never spend another dime in that junk shop and I hope they go out of business.
I used this address to send a letter to HD in the hopes of hearing something - it just went out so I'll keep my fingers crossed. Here's my story: I purchased a 1994 883 Hugger from the original owner. I realized immediately I'd need to learn quick how to fix stuff because it was nothing but a headache from the start - but one of my issues with HD as it pertains to this specific bike: After clocking about 8,000 miles on the bike in about 6 months of owning it I began to feel like someone was grabbing my rear tire from underneath me. HD was on the way home so I stopped to ask if they could check it out. The tech looked me straight in the eye, shrugged, and said "Probably rider error." Seriously? Because I'm a woman I obviously don't know how to ride? I said darlin' I bet I clock more miles than you so can you take a look? He pumped a little air in the tire and said I was fine. I took it to the mechanic who had worked on it for the past 16 years and in two seconds he said "here, run your hand over the rear tire..." I did and you could feel how pocked the tire was and clearly was a danger to ride. Giving up on the constant issues with that one in 2009 I bought an 07' XL 1200 L from the DEALER so I could have a "guaranteed safe and reliable" bike for a change. It had 3348 miles on it and came already with rinehart pipes and screaming eagle air kit. The day I went to pick it up the sales rep started it up for me and immediately it started gasping and hiccuping. I asked about it and she said "Yeah, who knows what that dude put in there - try running through a few tanks of premium and it should clear out, if needed put some ethanol treatment in too." It was still a problem and I brought it back - tech took it for a spin around the block and said everything's fine they just changed some fuses. Next day, same problem. After about 4 times of this I said keep it over night, let it cool, do a fresh cold start in the morning and ride it for more than 1 block. Sure enough, the mechanic said there's definitely a problem. After trying a few things they finally decided to try the bike with stocks and told me to test it for a few days. It was like riding a whole new bike - IT WORKED! But it sounded like nothing and, hey, I paid for those pipes. Their solution? Put baffles on (WHICH THEY WERE GOING TO CHARGE ME FOR). When the manager (a sleeze who gave me a hard time with my '94 hugger) refused to give any time of price off the purchase or even a store credit for the fact of the first 6 weeks I bought the bike HD had it for 4 of them I said forget it and left the bike as-is with the rineharts back on. Well, 2 1/2 years later and it's still "hiccuping." BUT, it gets even better... within those 2.5 years both rocker boxes developed leaks, one of the covers for the RB had to be entirely replaced due to warping, with less than 18,000 (15,000 of mine) miles on it the tires and brakes (although doesn't seem like the brakes were done) and while it was in the shop for that they said your clutch is shot we'll fix it for $500. I said no thank you and fixed it myself by just giving it an adjustment that took about 5 minutes to do. I lost my battery cover and HD wants $120 for a new one when ebay has them for $25 for a piece of plastic cover! And needless to say the bike still doesn't have the right mixture going on or the right tune-up for it and HD still hasn't honored the fact that this has been a constant issue that started at their shop. Needless to say I'm EXTREMELY unhappy with their service. I do want to note - this is not all just one HD shop. I'm talking about two different states I've been dealing with and it's the same scam-story at all of them! I pray that HD Corp provides actual customer service and actually fixes the hiccup because I'm so fed up with HD right now - I tell everyone to stay away from buying an HD and go with Honda and SWEAR my next bike will be a Honda.
I bought my husband a 06 Dyna Wide Glide it's a very nice bike and we have taking such great care of it. Especially since my husband has only taking it out few times. Well it stopped working and found out it was the fuel pump works when it's hooked to a battery and now it's going to be a 1000 dollars for Harley to reprogram it. I can't believe this since it only has 6000 miles. How disappointing!
I bought a brand new Harley 1200c Sportster. It had 4 miles on it when I got it off the showroom floor. I had it for three weeks then the check engine lite came on and the battery light as well. I took it back to the place I bought it and the service man says the voltage regulator was bad on it.. Now Ive been waiting for over two weeks for Harley davidson to ship the part I need. The service department said it would take 5 to 10 days because the Harley davidson shipping department is slow. I can get a package from China in 7 days. I always thought of Harley as the greatest bike in the world..Like the Cadillac of motorcycles..I wish there was a way I could give it back.
