Today I stopped by Family Dollar to purchase an item. The entire time that I was in the store, the cashier was on the stores cordless phone. While talking on the phone, she followed me to the cash register. As she continued to talk on the phone, first of all she DID NOT acknowledge me by any means, nor did she tell me the balance. After I paid with debit card she waited on my receipt to print, put it in my hand and watch me walk off "all while holding a personal phone conversation ON THE BUSINESS phone!!!!" SO, im thinking Family Dollar targets low class people and with that being said the customer doesnt have to be a factor? Wherever there is a Family Dollar there will be a Dollar General across the street. Dollar General even though your selection is not as good, your store is cleaner and customer service is great....Dollar General HERE I COME!!!!! Jackson,MS 39213

Why not have a no star cause that's what this company should get.Was very shocked to see so many of the same complaints(CUSTOMER SERVICE I WILL NOT WASTE MY TIME HERE. I WOULD RATHER CONTACT SOME ONE WHO CARES LIKE BBB and other companys that protect cosumers Rights.

how can family dollar store in plainview texas hire someone that had been indicted by the Hale County Grand Jury for Embezzeling over $20,000.00 and fire someone for having too much money in the til? Read the story in Plainview Police Report published Thursday, January 6, 2011. Or was it constructive termination to get an embezzeler in Family Dollar Store, which would you rather have? I went to shop at family dollar and came across a rude manager! I have always shopped at this location where a male manager was absolutely professional and kind his name was Ed. This location is the one at Northlake blvd n 10th ave. well the rude manager was outside smoking a cigarette mind u i was shopping at the store for 45 minutes and nobody was at the front when i was ready to pay! this manager busy smoking n on her cell pone with her rotten ass teeth paying no attention on what was happening inside!!! This was ridicoulus and unprofessional and i will never go back there again the whole entire store is a mess dirty filthy just like her teeth!!!! watch her and u will see whats happening people walking out without paying!!!!Also the officer outside informed me that he was waiting till she drives her car with inproper registration of another state and has sited her a ticket for that! wow they need to hire managers with responsibity!!!!

Good workers come from good management but these managers are on drugs u need to screen then or give them random drug test!!!!!! Smoking cigarettes outside of the workplace is a no no!!!!! I was just in one of your stores in Dunn, NC and observed a display by an employee that was totally out of line. I left the store immediately and went home. I will never enter the store again. I do not blame the Mother of the two small children for getting very angry and her sister also let the cashier know she was out of order in her actions. This employee was screaming at 2 small children about 3 and 4 like she was their mother because they were going to their mom with something they wanted. Since when does your employees become dictators when the Mother and her sister from what I heard were right there? The cashier said she had no company headquarters, wouldn't give her name and covered it up. Got on the phone and put a customer on the phone that was in the back and did not observe her behavior. Apparently she knew she was wrong and was on the phone with the manager. I left, but when store employees begin to disipline small children in the presence of their Mother is going too far. The cashier was beligerent which further made the situation worse. I just left. You need to know what is going on in your stores. My first and last visit. Just happened to stop by that store on the way home. Won't stop again. I used to be a manager and feel that complaints should be reported or how else would you know what is going on.

While shopping in the dollar store on March 3,2011 about 6pm,A store worker came over and told me I was trying to steal something because I was reaching into my pocket.I explain to her that I was not stealing anything.I was reaching in my pocket for my eye glasses. She said I know you, you have been here before tryng to steal something. I replied that I worked 30 years for county,And have money.And I do not need to steal.I have never stolen anything in my life. I retired person and I have shopped in store many times.The worker told me if I did not leave she was going to call the police. I told her to call the poice,because I was not leaving,she walked away.I completed my shopping.I called back to complain to person in charge of then store.She became angry with me and hung the phone up on me.I feel that my right have been violated. therefore, I am complaining to Authority in hopes that something can be done to protect innocent people trying to shop. the store is in Dayton Ohio On Salem and Hillcrest. I am so tired of being treated like crap from these costumers. I feel if your rude to me I should have a right to be rude right back! I am not going to be degraded from you customers any longer! If you don't like something or can't get your way with a sale price, return or whatever because of our store policy, OH WELL! iT's POLICY! WE JUST ABIDE BY IT! You don't like! Call corporate! I am so sick of you thinking you can come into my store and yell at me and treat me like garbage then walk out, feeling good that you got away with making somebody else's day ruin to crap when all there doing is trying to make a living wile you sit at home going on a free ride off the state or something. I understand customers are the most important thing to a business but i don't think it means you come in with an attitude and get your way all the time because something isn't right to you. I was explaining a task to a co worker and a customer asked him a question, finished then looked at me and complained and I got in trouble! WHAT IS THAT?!?! I didn't even say anything!! So pretty much the customer can spit and slap you in the face and they get to get away with it?! The customers are NOT always right! My store is located in MI

I run an adult daycare where the members have dementia and other disabilities. We (the whole area) experienced a black-out and we did not have enough flashlights to take the people to the bathroom and keep up with them, since they tend to wander. Some were just afraid because it was dark in the building. I went to the family dollar art the Overbrook Plaza in Philadelphia and asked for four flashlights to help the seniors. I had money however, the registers were down. I asked if I could pay the next day. One person said sure, he had a grandmother who was afraid of the dark. However, the security guard said no, it was like stealing. Mine you, we frequent this store everyday for something for the members. What kind of store does not help 50 elderly men and women? You can bet that we will not be frequenting this store anymore.

I was in store 2947 on 3/27/2011. I attempted to pay for my merchandise as a POS transaction, after about 10 minutes it was assumed that the transaction would not go through because it stayed in a processing mode. The cashier cancelled it and had me stripe again, and the cash register said "duplicate transaction". The manager than cancelled the transaction again, and I striped as a credit and it took. I asked if I would be charged twice, and was told no. Guess what? I was double charged. That isn't the biggest issue thou, the run around is. When I called the store I was informed by the asst manager (Debbie) that I would need to call in later because she didn't know how to fix it. I could also hear her in the background telling someone "this is how my day is going", as if I was bothering her. Finally I talked to the next Asst Manager that told be I would need to wait until Wednesday when the manager is in, the transaction took place on Sunday. Why should I need to wait 3 days for a refund, not to mention I need to go the bank for an official statement and return to the store. I could have dealt with it a little better if someone had maybe even apologized, but I was treated as though I was bothering them.

I’m a very upset customer... I love going to the family dollar stores and unfortunately we have a very rude and scary lady in one of the stores in the Pharr Nolana store… That boss or whatever she thinks she is... Sylvia I believe her name is... is so rude and treats her employees very bad... Someone needs to do something about it... especially because Ive seen that she had some kind of Voodoo or witch craft going on in her store... weird things happens there when ever that lady goes to wk.. It’s the closest store that I have around my neighborhood so I have to go to that one. And may I add I can’t believe the customers have to feel this way when she is around or her other helper that little weird girl. She is also very rude... I’ve seen her do nothing but is on the phone while the other poor guys work... I’m getting so close to calling the TV station to do something about it if the corporate office doesn’t... She needs to get fired... She can’t be treating customers like that.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All of you should work at a family dollar and see how many ride customers come in. We try to be polite and nice. But yet ignores us and be rude! We are rude when customers are are rude to us. My past manager was a total b#@!h not because of the customers but because of all her tasks she had to get done, which is very unacceptable. She shouldn't take her anger on the customers. Now I have a really friendly manager. Point being cahiers at my store are really friendly. Customer service is very important, thats why our store sells alot, I'm talking about two trucks a week! To be honest I am only rude when a customer is being very rude to me, which I hate because I'm trying to help! Heres a few pointers for customers, dont ask if we have more of a certain merchandise in the back because someyimes thats impossible to do, if theirs a section of a certain product dont ask if ttheirs more somewhete in another place in the store because why would we have more sumwhere else if thats the place it belongs! , dont throw ur money at us because its rude!, DO NOT!! I repeat DO NOT!! Take your money out of your bra and hand it to us, we do not want to touch your dirty money!!, make sure you have money before co ming to the store, if you dont see a product you want that means we dont carry it so dont bother asking.

I have recently become employed as an assistant manager for Family Dollar. I decided to look up information on the company and came across this site. I am shocked at some of the incidents detailed here. The store in which I work is quite nice and I am enjoying my new job. The manager and other employees are polite and very friendly. The customers are also extremely nice and many are obviously regular customers, as I am getting used to seeing quite a few of them. The manager knows many of her customers by name. I make a point to speak to everyone who enters the store. I realize there are problems with understaffing. Often, the store is opened by only one employee, which is a security hazard. I am a bit unnerved by the lack of security measures, but so far I have not been threatened in any way. I do wish the corporate office would install alarms and sufficient funds to have at least two employees present at all times. I see how one might encounter long checkout lines due to insufficient payroll. Of course, this is frustrating for both customers and employees but some of the reports here of blatant rudeness are astonishing. I would never use profanity on the job and verbally abusive employees should be terminated. Perhaps they received inadequate customer service training. I have worked in other retail establishments, so I came to this job aware of the importance of good customer relations, but for the employees who have never worked in retail before, it would be a great idea to provide proper training for them. So far, I have not seen much of Family Dollar's training procedures, but that is probably because all the employees at my location were there before I was hired. I am sure I will learn. In all, I am satisfied with my job so far (aside from the lack of security I mentioned). I have shopped at Family Dollar stores for years and never had a bad experience that I can recall.

I love the bargains at family dollar but I am sick and tired of the people that work there. I live in miami and frequent the family dollar close to home but the unrelenting rude cashiers makes me think twice of continuing to shop there.

I was very happy when a Family Dollar came to our community on 12 mile and Northwestern Hwy In Southfield Mi. The problem is that I have been very very unhappy with the customer service skills. Everytime I go in there, there is always a line and one register open. Even during the holiday season there was always one register open. Today I was just out done. I went in to purchase a few items and one of the items had a dollar coupon in the paper. As I proceeded to check out i gave the the cashier the coupon for the dollar off. The cashier informed me the coupon had expired. I stated to her how can this be when I picked up the sale paper as I entered the store. They ( management) had failed to remove the paper from the front door that had expired. I assumed the young lady that I presented this problem to was management, she just walked over and removed the papers and didn't say I apologize or give the customer the discount she was so unconcern. They also had a shelf that had fallen down in the back that was just laying there on the floor. To me this is one of the worse Family Dollar stores I have have encountered

I work for family dollar. I have been workin there for the past 3 years and the job sucks all the way around. The customers are crybabys and are so quick to call corporate about even the smallest thing, the dm does not care about you they just want more work for less money. The mamagers are bullys and if things don't go there way they cry and make you work more hrs just because u said something. The pay sucks the hrs suck I have been promised a few raises and have not seen a dime of it. My 3 years of workin there I have not received one raise. I am on my last leg. I am seriously thinking about putting in my 2-week notice today. If you are reading this do not work at family dollar they will mistreat u and make you there slave.

I regret to buy in Family dollar store located in Lake worth Fl store number 7414. I purchased two Vanilla Visa gift card for 500 dollars each and when I tried to use says is inactivaded. I called the visa customer service and they say that they receved an email from family dollar saying that is a swap card wich I believed is a term for fraud. My question is Do you think I robbed that Visa Gift Card having the reciepts for both purchases and proof from the bank that the purchase was paid? Something is going on in that store.....I fell robbed Iam suffering I dont have any money I can not sleep, my family is terrified for this. Who can I trusth? Can you imagine be a tourist and believed to buy something legal and can not used bacause they think that the purchase is a fraud? Why family dollar sell something that they think is a fraud? I am an employee at family dollar and have been so for the past 7 months. I have heard a few people around my store talk about some negative feedback. so i decided to look it up on here to see what is going on. I am completly shocked that there is so many bad stories that I am reading. I know it probably does not mean much to alot of you but i would like to say i appologize for your poor customer service and mistreating. i know in my district streatching from kings mountain,dallas, and gastonia that we opperate by a strict company pollicy. Esp. in dallas we greet you our customers as if you were our family/friend and are more than happy to assist you with anything that you need help finding or questions you need answered so please despite negativity you found in one store that is not the case in every store so again i am sorry for your bad experiences with us at Family Dollar and come and try some of our more customer friendly stores :)

I went into Family Dollars store on 79th Marquette on Saturday, 1/22/11 and the clerk told me as I came into the store to take off of my hood. I took off of my coat hood even if I was confused at the clerks request. I went to get the item that I was purchasing and stood in line. The clerk was waiting on a customer and was talking agressively about a hood, little did I know that the clerk was talking to me still. I was unaware that she was loudly and aggressively telling me to to take my hoodie, that was connected to my jacket off or I would not be waited on. The clerk stated, "Family Dollars store policy not does permit customers not to wear hoods inside Family Dollars stores, especially hoddies. No manager was present or intervee with the clerks loud agessive statement. Next, the clerk told me that she got off work at 4:30 pm if I did not like what she said.
