I visit the Dollar General in Ensley, Alabama. Most of the Employees are very nice. The Store Manager, Murrari, I think his name was is VERY nice! I remember before he got to that store, it was a mess. It is clean, stocked, and very well upkept now. My complaint is about the District Manager, Mark. He is very unprofessional, rune, and just plain out a jerk. He yelled at Murrari in front of customers. He yells at the employees too. I have been told that Mark made Murrari work 21 hours straight and did not give him a lunch. Which is TOTALLY unacceptable! Mark is white, I am white, Murrari is Indian. I believe Mark is racist. I think Mark's job should be ripped out of his hands. Because I guarentee, If he does not quit soon, someone is going to sue Dollar General, and Mark will be begging to another chance.
My son Was a Asst. Mgr, at Dollar General four 3 year's never was late for work or never called in sick. a week a go a woman check wouldn't go through He told her to try cashing it at the Groc. store next door to see if they could cash it. she came back next morning and paid for her items. To show what kind of Managers Dollar General Hire. This guy didn't have the balls to come and hear his side. All he done was call and say I cant meet him just give him a message for me tell him he is Terminated........he could careless about his work recored. Just shows what the kind of people Dollar General have running their company.

I Took over a store that was ran to the ground, filthy, rude employees, crap all over the place. I busted my ass for the 1st 7 months I worked there and then got hurt unloading a truck. I was put on light duty and and it took the company 5 months to approve the surgery I needed (they underwrite their own workmen's comp) how convenient. I had the surgery, a week after surgery I was told I needed to come back to work and they would make accommodations for me. NOPE I had to make my own accommodation and that was a plastic chair. My surgery consisted of a repair to the rotator cuff, reattach bicep tendon and they had to remove the end off my clavicle bone.... all due to a work related injury. So needless to say after that kind of surgery I was in no shape to come back to work as a store manager. I was still on Morphine and hook to surgical devises.I had to have my family drive me to work every day and pick me up. The point of sending back to work like this was to embarrass me and humiliate me in front of my staff and customers. I had no idea where I was or what I was doing. I did that for a week and then had to take my OWN week of vacation in order to stay home and recover...... OOOO it gets better, 2 weeks before I came off light duty I get a new district manager who is up set by the way my store looks. I told him my situation and that I had been on light duty for so long that I was not able to keep up with everything on the amount of hours that were given to me. HE said " Not my problem that you had surgery and is on light duty ,,,,,, your just full of excuses and don't want to take ownership of the problems in this store. WTF are ya kidding me ..... I told him again,I am still under doctors care and I'm on light duty. I was given 1 week to get my store to model standards. Due to working 69 hours to get my store back to standards ( it hasn't been to standard in 5 years lol ) I re-injured my surgical arm. Yes I have resined from my position as a store manager. They treat there employees like crap and if any one has any more stories like this feel free to email me at email@example.com
I have been shopping this store in Walton Kentucky off and on now for a little over four years. I have seen so many employees come and go. I have also seen the store go from foul to a perfect clean store as of today. I find myself shopping this Dollar General Store at least 3 to 4 times a week since it is right down the road from my subdivision. My neighbors are all shopping there again. It is amazing how you can put the right people in a business and what you can get out of it. This store is amazing. 7 months ago, you could walk into this store and get discusted with the filth and the lack of customer service. Now you walk in there and the management team greets you with a smile and welcome, the cashiers are hard working and always continuing to go the extra mile, and the store is very clean. The assistant manager Joe and the Store manager Tina have done aremarkable job in bringing this store back. They are always getting involved in with the community of Walton and showing that they care. I hope to have them in this local store for years to come because I don't think that anyone else can run it any better. The only down falls that I have with this store, more so the company is the changes of the products. Why do you require your stores to move the products around so much? This becomes a distraction and a headache for those who shop your store on a regular basis. Leave the stores as they are for the customers sake and Im sure it would also be good for your employees. Quit overworking your pour people unless you are going to go in there and work with them. I know my review will be looked over but please recognize these fine folks for their hard work. I am so glad to have a Dollar General in my community who finally cares. Sincerely, Cindy Tanner
I was in your store in chatnooga, TN yesterday and had one of the most aweful shopping experiences ever. The cashier was rude and the manager girl on duty told me that she could not give me the sale price on the item that I was purchasing because it ended on sunday. I told her that she should remove the tags and make sure they are off the shelves when the sale ended. She said witht he amount of hours they get in a store, they do not have any time for non sence games from customers. She said if I had a problem with it, to take it up with you corporate people. Gosh, how rude can you be. I will never shop at another bumble bee store again. Sorry, you just lost my business. Im sure you will loose more along the way. GOOD LUCK DOLLAR GENERAL. HOPE YOUR COMPANY DOSENT FALL FLAT ON THEIR FACES FOR HAVING BAD ATTITUTDES. SK
I went to the Dollar General Store #01186 and listened as an employee stood outside the store talking on the phone stating "I'm going to put my 2 weeks notice in before I have to go to jail" She went on and on about things going on. You do understand that she is representing your establishment? I don't know her name, but she was the only female working in the store @ 4pm today. I am appauld @ her behavior. When your store manager Erskine worked there, this type of behavoir was not taking place. We do not need that type of non-sense going on in our pleasant little town. If she doesn't like her job, or if she doesn't want to work, then she should give her 2 weeks notice. We are in a recession, there are plenty of people who would love to have her job!!
Concerning the Union City Pa store. All of the employees are very friendly and helpfull, but the grounds outside is absolutely terrible! There is always trash all over the parking lot and the next door residence yard from the dollar store. The yard is hardley ever mowed. It would really be nice to see it kept cleener,it is a new store bot it looks terrible already!

DG Store - Tunica, MS US HWY 61 38676 Shopping carts all over the parking lot and sidewalk There are 4 check out lines and there is never more than one line open. Even when there is a long long line of customers waiting to be checked-out. The store is unorganized. There is a table right in the front door that is piled with a bunch of junk supposed to be on clearance. It never fails if you get an item off this clearance table and take it to the check out the cashier will say it is not on sale. "A customer must have left it there..." Well, put the item back in it's proper place! Numerous signs stuck to shelves indicating sale prices and the signs are just stuck every where and you cannot tell with which item the sale price corresponds. Delivery trucks back up right to the front door and block all the parking spaces. When I called the Tunica location to ask for the number to the home office the lady indicated that she did "not have that number right on hand" What a disappointment this brand new store has turned out to be.
Yesterday I purchased over $60.00 worth of merchandise at Dollar General in Cleveland, MS on Hwy 8. I paid with my Discover card. When the cashier did not offer to give me a receipt, I asked for one and she said that the machine had run out of paper. I asked what I was to do if I wanted to bring something back. She called the manager over and he asked what I might want to bring back. I looked in my bags and pulled out an electric razor and an electric beard trimmer. I said that if they didn't work I wanted to return them. He said that I could return them ONLY if they had not been opened. I said that I wouldn't know if they didn't work UNLESS I opened them. He said that DG would not take returns on electronics that had been opened because "people could burn them up and then try to return them". When I got home my husband opened a bag of walnuts that I had bought at DG. He immediately spit them out and said they were rancid. Today I took them back to DG. When I tried to return them, the clerk (Pat) asked for my receipt. I explained WHY I had no receipt and he called his superior (Felicia). Once again I explained why I had not receipt. She called her manager (Mr. Williams) who said that all I could do was exchange them for another bag of the same walnuts. I asked why I would want to get another bag of rancid walnuts and she just repeated what she had said before. I left telling them that I intended to contact DG about all of this. When I took the survey, all it asked was how satisfied I was with my visit. There was no place to comment. For the record, the store was messy, carts blocked entry into aisles, many items were not priced, and the cash registers were not attended.
I started working at dollar in the middle of july I was never late an always polite to everyone.my work days were wensday, thursday, friday if needed to put away stock. the mannger ask me if I would work extra hours for the next week Iagreed told her it would be morning hours, form 8:00am to 1:00pm after-noon she agreed her words were that will be fine. I compleated that week. befor returning to work the next-week I called the store several times to fine-out will I be working any extra no-one could give me A clear answer. so I return to my regular workdays an show up for work on time. I was tould I had a no call no show for work an was terminated. I have spent sometime researching an found that this is A standerd pratice at this store (low-self esteem management) Talk whith several other former-employee they all agree CORPORATE OFFICE IS AWEAR but will do nouthing to change it. This store is in INDIANA INDIANAPOLIS 2000 block N. Central av -46204 (Corporat get it fixed just ask real professional) If you check the camera an audio you will fine that I was in the store asking about the work-schdual date august 23,2010 on a monday! so if I was to-be working that day why no one at that time say anything to me then I show up for work-wensday morning befor 8:00am august 25,2010 an then told IAM terminated beacuse I was a no call no show!. It's only a dollar maby Quilty-dont Matter ?. (NEWS-PEOPLE DO)
TOPIC: DOLLAR GENERAL / Abbeville, AL Guen discovered this week's biggest bargains. First, at Dollar General, she found a red purse sporting a big petaled red flower for less than $10.00 Then at Family Dollar she found two of the cutest belts each on sale for $2. I followed her trail to Dollar General, but alll the red flowered purses had vannished. While there, though, I did notice the Alabama and Auburn fan section was neat as a pin. I wish I could say the same for the rest of the store. The store was, as I usually find it since Sharon Gladdon's(Glanton) departure, a mess - inside and out. Inside, the floors are dirty and most everything seems to be in disarray. Out front is a mess- all jumbled up with trash and goods -trash all over the sidewalk down into the parking places. It's really a disgrace.
Excuse me!!! I have been trying to get in touch with someone--anyone at your claims office. I called all day friday, left 4-5 messages but never got threw and never got a call back about an incident that happened at your store in Laure,MS. where your sign fell across my car. have tried again today Malett Melagan.."is too busy to come to her phone",or call me back. so when I called back on the 4th time today I ask to speak to the manager over her, and you might know, Jane Roberts, is tooo busy to answer her phone or call me back. so I called the store here where I live, in Laurel, and ( they have talked to me and have been very nice Terri Answorth and her employees need a raise, because they take care of business and dont IGNORE there customers)but yet i have to wait until after 3:00, before I can talk to her and I have a feeling she will probably say just keep calling until I get threw, what are these people doing on this claim depart.?????are there that many calims going on with your stores????I just walked out the front door under the sign on the front of your building andgot in my car, then the sign fell,on the front of my car. seems like someone in your company could have a little more understanding, is that too much to ask.....just answer the phone, and take my info!!!to much to ask????dont think so. ....Have a great day:)
A new Dollar General has been built in our town. Everyone was looking so forward to it because all we have is a grocery store and one other "dollar store". My very first visit there I was so disappointed. The store itself was great. But when it came time for me to check out I had to stand at the register and wait for a very long period of time while all the employess were in the back giggling and cuttig up. I could have walked right out of the store with my entire basket and they would have never known. Jobs are hard to come by this day in time so if you have one, you might want to try to do a good job and hold on to it.
I too have been a loyal DG shopper until today! I shop at the DG close to my house on Main street in Bowling green Virgina. I started out in the make up section where I had asked some advice from a female worker that gave me her opinion openly. When finished in that section I went on over to the discount rack to browse and call my husband about a pill organizer I had found. Suddenly the woman who had offered me her advice said... "I hope you plan on paying for that"! I quickly replied what? The woman came back with a rude remark saying..."What you just put in your purse! I walked over to her with my purse open and said what are you talking about when she quickly walked away from me! No apology, The least she could have done after accusing me was to search my purse! I put my basket with about $40.00 worth of things on the rack and started on my way out. I stopped at the register to tell the man working there how embarrassed I was to have experienced that! I also let him know a couple more things we wont mention. I'm Done with DG! They must hire their staff straight out of elementary school!!!
Typically I would rate DG a 5 but today something happened that made me very disappointed. I spend a lot of money at DG.......between VA and FL where we have property. Today I made a purchase at the DG in Colonial Beach VA. Part of my purchase was three cards (Anniversay card and two birthday cards for my granddaughters). When I was back home I started addressing the cards only to realize one of the cards did not fit the envelope that came with it. I returned to the DG with my purchase receipt and asked if I could please get another envelope to fit the card. They said because I had alread written on the envelope I would need to purchase another card. I had not yet signed the card, all I wanted was the correct envlelope that would fit the card. Apparently the envelope I picked up in the same slot as the card was not the correct envelope. Because I had written on the envelope they said I could not get a new envelope. I asked if I paid $0.50 for an envelope could I get the correct size (wasn't my fault the wrong envelope was in the slot for this card). I was told I had to either buy another card or they would charge me for another card. We're only talking about an envelope here and they charged me the price of a card. It's not the money......it's the principle. The other cards fit the envelope that was in the same slot.......this other one did not. If it had been any other store other than DG I guarentee you they would have let me get another envelope. Now you will probably tell me then I should purchase my future cards at those other stores and that's exactly what I plan to do.......I cannot believe DG would not allow me to replace my envelope with another envelope that fit my card. I'm very disappointed. Have always supported DG......it's been one of my favorite stores but I have a totally different view now. Again, it's not my fault the wrong envelope was in the slot with the cards. Gosh, after reading many other complaints it appears the DG's could have some serious issues. I would think during these hard and difficult times DG should consider treating their customers better. Some of your employees could have a better attitude also. I've sent in complaints to Walmart when I was disatified and they contacted me immediately and apologized. They said if people did not report their disatisfaction they would have no way of being able to improve the situations. I think maybe DG could take some lessons from their management.
Stopped on the way home to pick up a few things to tide me over until my regular shopping day. Store #12023 - Troutville, VA - Carrots were marked - $1.00 - rang up at $1.35 Bananas were marked - $1.00 - rang up at $1.10 Pork and beans $ .50 - rang up at $.69 Potatoes $2.00 - rang up at $2.85 So - here is my question: where are my low prices and savings ?? Why should I continue to shop here - where is your integrity ?? Yes the prices were adjusted but if I had not noticed they would not have been for the cashier was told to let it go unless the customer complained. Then I had to wait for her to go outside and find the manager on duty - who was smoking a cigarette and talking to another employee. Recently I brought to your attention that your coupon books were a rip off because all you did was raise the regular price of an item and then using the coupon - it was back to the normal price. come on DG - I am having a hard enough time to keep my budget in check and I hate to comparison shop and spend precious time cutting coupons - that is why I used to like to stop at DG on the way home - low prices - in and out - friendly service. YOU NEED to compare your prices with those around you if you want to stay in business in my neighborhood. You are competing with Walmart, Kroger and Food Lion. Wake up before it is too late !! There are plenty of people out of work - give them the job to compare your prices with your competition - a win / win situation !!!!! I gave you 2 stars - when you first opened you were close to a 5 star store - what are you thinking ???!!!
I work for DG as a Store Manager. All the complaints are very eyeopening, but also an indicator of the same things I have been saying all along to my Dist. Manager. If we don't have enough hours to properly staff the store, we can't give the proper service these customers deserve. The cashiers are asked to stock shelves, clean, run the registers and maintain an store average. Managers have to do those items AS WELL AS... check in vendors, monitor seasonal items, set planograms, store security, paperwork, scheduling, and much more.. Too often there is more work than we can do while trying to provide customer service. Then it never fails that customers get upset about pricing issues when prices come down from cooperate. Long lines can not be avoided at busy times of days even when both registers are running. Even grocery stores & Walmart has long lines. Many of the complaints are coming from the three times that the stores are the busiest also. Any store is going to be busy at lunch, after work & shorty before closing, so if possible try to avoid these times if you are in a hurry or you will be in for a short wait.If you've never worked retail, try to imagine working an 6-8 hr shift with 50-200 people complaining to you for things that you have no control over & you might understand why the employees are cranky & rude. Not that it is an excuse by any means, but it is understandable. I myself was cursed out because our store was sold out of something a customer wanted even after I offered to call another store in our city to see of they had one in stock (our city has 3 DG's). There is never a good excuse for rude behavior from an employee, but likewise neither is there an excuse for rude behavior from a customer either. It's a vicious cycle that is destined to keep repeating until someone opens their eyes & allows more hours for more employees to be on duty to service the customers & maintain the cleanliness of the store.
