I have almost 8 years with dollar general with some time in between. The last time I was hired it was to be trained for a magr. position. I was hired as assitant mgr with the promis to be trained for mgr. then the mgr. at the union city tn. store left so that put me in charge until a new mgr was hired. He was put in place with no dollar general experience, then after a few months I was sent to another store to fill in for the mgr. while she was on sick leave. while there I talked to my distric mgr. about a raise since I was filling the job as magr. his reply was we talk about it when you get back to your store. after 6 weeks he came in and said no raise but if you did get one what will you do for me. He did not saw for the company he said for me. I let that slide, soon after the mgr. position came up again and again I was passed up so I quit my job. This distric mgr has caused magrs. in the area to leave that have been there for years. He needs to be looked at
I went to the Dollar General store in Cedar Bluff, AL on December 31, 2010. I purchased several items one of them a phone card. When I got home the phone card kept saying invalid card. I went back to the store because I figure they did not activate it or something. The young guy at the register said he did not know what to do. So he told me to go talk the the woman that was working there. I had to go all over the store in search for her. Her name is Paulette Tullis. I told her my problem. And she said "Who sold you this?" I said, "the young boy at the register." She then told him not to sell anymore of the cards on the shelf to use a scan at the register for phone minutes because the cards were no good. She then went to another register and I do not know what she was doing and I don't think she did either. Then she asked me for my name address, and phone number. In the meantime the young boy's line gets backed up all the way to the back of the store because he is so slow. She looks at me and says she will have to get back with me in a few minutes because she has to him him check out customers. "HELLO I'M A CUSTOMER." I also had my 16 month old grandson with me who at this point is getting restless. So I asked her if I could get a refund. She said NO. So I wait and waited until she checks out "CUSTOMERS".( I thought I was a customer) Then she does something else at the register in regard to my problem for about 10 minutes, and she asked me if I could come back tomorrow. "No" I can't nor should I have to. Then she said she had to go in the office and make a phone call which took FOEVER. She comes out and says she has to make another phone call to make sure the minutes had not been used. NOW LISTEN and LISTEN good I do not steal and I would not have already stood in there and wrestled with my grandson for 30 minutes if the phone minutes had been used. I do not like being treated like a theif. I have never stole anything in my 51 years of life. After about 15+ minutes of waiting I am losing my patience and I usually am a calm person. But she came out and said the card was good that there must be something wrong with my phone. WHAT???? THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY PHONE!!! And she said I would have to call the TRAC phone customer service. NOW why was I not told that in the beginning. But no in the beginning she had already told the boy that the cards on the shelf were no good not to sell them. I did get the matter resolved with TRAC phone. But I will never shop at the Dollar General again.NEVER! I do not like being treated like a theif and a second class customer. I should not have had to wait while she waited on other customers just because she did not know what to do about my problem. I have never filled a complaint on any store or anyone but this is ridiculous. P.S. if the phone cards on the shelf are no good then take them off the shelf so the don't get sold to anyone else.
I was told today that once Dollar General takes the clearance items off the shelf (when they ring up 1 cent) that they have to throw them away. I asked if they could donate them to a non-profit or charity and they said no - that company policy says they have to be thrown away! Can you believe it??? Dented cans of food, crushed kleenex, etc., etc. What the heck?
I love the Dollar General in Clewiston FL. But lately its been going down hill i was shopping there around 1pm and there was associated taking about another associated and how much she got paid and how an fair it was to her that she gets paid that much. The store is very messy and out of order most of the time.One time my son had to use the bathroom and the boy resteroom was broken so we had to use the ladies after he got done i went to flush and water came back up that store is soo gross. My son even found a dead cockroach on the floor. Now the only thing i get from Dollar General are my cleaning supplies. If you want my recommendation dont buy your food there. That store need to build another to replace that shity one.
Store # 01823 Canton Texas store Mgr. Shallan and Asst,Mgr. Wanda..... The worst customer service EVER!!!!! plus I was doubled charge for a 6 pck of soda and can't even get a call back about it. I " the customer " is the reason Shallan and Wanda even have a job. Without us there would be no YOU!!!! start taking better care of the people who help pay your check! Very unhappy customer
I went to take some stuff back someone got for me for christmas I did not need and the manger said well it's ringing up at $0.01 and could not help me out. It's such crap. When the price tag was still on it with the price clear as a bell on it. They out and out suck !!
I am from Killeen, Texas.. Fort Hood store #10304 4100 W Stan Schueter Loop. I was a loyal customer up until I witness the verbal abuse to the other customers& employees. I disagree w/ the lack of respect& customer service that goes on in that store! I contacted the better business bureau on this matter. They are two managers that are are a disgrace to the company & are no asset to it as well. Something must be done about this.... u have the cashier, floor personnel & customers degrading themselves by accepting such improper treatment. If a manager does not know how to manage & run a store; they need to quit, get fired or get themselves together before this company goes down in business! Also they should stop accusing certain races of being theives when they are the ones committing the unlawful acts... why does it have to be the african americans& hispanics that steal.... one word 'BIAS'
I used to be a Dollar General Store Manager and I loved my job and I was damn good at it too. I have read all of the complaints and comments on this page and this is the first time I have ever been to this site since I was fired over a year ago. I was fired the day after Christmas last year if that tells you anything about Dollar General and how they feel about their employees. I tell you now, I was not fired for stealing, treating my customers or employees bad or for not following procedure as I was trained. I had received many awards while I was employed, respected by my district managers and boss. When the economy dropped and my store profit numbers went down along with every other business and other DG stores in the area, DG corporation decided to revamp the districts, changed all the regional and district managers and fired every store manager in my district. Some let goes were legitimate but most were not. False and made up reasons for discharges were issued and were backed up just because the new managers said so. I was the only manager that they couldn't fire for policy disregard, I was fired because they said I wasn't a manager up to their standards. I received unemployment and DG did not fight it. But they ruined my reputation because I lived less than a mile from my store and I knew and live among many of my customers, and many of my customers were old school friends, and parents of my children s classmates. I was highly regarded by most of my customers and received many complementary emails to the corporation about the kind of job I was doing and the fine customer service I had provided. I had reduced my "shrink", loss, by 5,000 to 10,000 every year the four years I was there. My final inventory I reduced my shrink by 10,000 from the previous year, but the way my new manager had closed the date on my inventory there was a 9,000 increase in the shrink and I lost out on a 3,000 bonus and in the end it mad all my numbers for the year look not as good at all. My bosses answer to this was that an entire truck delivery was not counted in to my year inventory numbers even though the merchandise was in the store. I still don't understand this one. And to top all of this humiliation off, corporation went through four managers in this store in the next year and the last manager that worked there, which I had never met or worked with was tell my previous employees and customers that I was fired for stealing from the store. I am totally appalled by the lack of morals and proper business ethics from the Dollar General Corporation. And to answer some of the complains listed here on this page, DG does not staff enough. They are constantly trying to take hours away from store managers. There is never more than one person in a store till noon on most days, and in a slow store like mine I was only given 8 to 10 hours of labor to unload about a half full semi worth of merchandise. The amount of tasks that need to be completed with signing, moving merchandise, setting up merchandise, changed planograms (shelf pricing and merchandising changes)cleaning, checking out customers, paperwork, etc.... can not be done efficiently a provided proper customer service. I know I tried for four years and never lived up to corporate standards even though my customers said I was the friendliest and cleanest store and best stocked store in the area. As far as the .01 item that come to the registers, these are items that have been discontinued in the store and should have been removed from the shelves. Two reasons why they might not have: one, lazy store manager and employees or the corporation failed to properly report to the store of the pull, or there was an improper download from the corporation in the computer to make stores aware. And store managers are told to not sell the merchandise to customers and they are told to throw all of this merchandise in the trash. It can not even be donated. Customer service will continue to suck with dollar general stores because there is terrible communication from corporate to the stores. Regional and district managers do as they please. The buck will always fall on the store managers. I use to put in 60 to 70 hrs in a week and had to work every weekend and every holiday. They took away Easter and DG is only closed on Christmas Day. DG seems to find managers that are rude and dishonest because I think over time the mistreatment make many disgruntled managers that then decide to get even and steal and sometimes more. They are over worked and not given enough hours for employees to work to get the jobs done right. The only way a store gets more labor hours is if their sales beat the previous years numbers and lately you know that isn't happening in most areas. DG will never accept MC credit card because they say, or at least it was explained to me, MC charges too much when a transaction is ran in a DG store, DG will not pay the cost to process MC transactions. But until they do the poor cashiers and Managers have to take the rage and clean up from customers when the can not use their card to make purchases. I lost so much business because my customers could not use Master Card. I would never advise anyone to work at dollar general, or buy from there either. I have seen prices on so many items rise in the past three year in Dollar General you would not believe it. Some items have gone up a dollar or more. And as far as clearance items not ringing up under regular price when they are in a clearance area is usually sloppy merchandising or corporation has advised the stores to put these items in clearance areas cause they are discontinued and have no where else to put them and corporate has not reduced the price in the computers and don't intend to. I was also in a war with shop lifters, corporate breaches not to worry about that and worry about the employees that are stealing. All cameras in DG stores are set to the front door, back door, register and office to watch only the employees and managers there usually are no cameras on the floor to watch customers stealing or the employees for that matter if they pocket items where the cameras don't see. DG stores are the easiest stores to steal from, for one because of the lack of cameras to review or simply cause there is staffed only one person there per corporate office. I hate DG and will never shop there again and I have advised anyone I know to do the same. The majority of the issues of DG stem from higher up in order to make a bigger profit at the cost to the employee at store level and to the customer. My entire district was eliminated corporate though the cause of poor numbers in sales was not due to the economy but due to the store management. FYI, the last two years I was working at my DG store they opened another DG store less that two miles from my store and a new Walgreen and a CVS opened up less than a mile from my store, and the last two years I was there I never beat my number from the year prior. I don't think it takes a genius to figure out why. Screw Dollar General Corporation, shop Wal-Mart.
I have shopped at the Hancock Md store since it got in town. Atleast 2 times a week,that stops today. Went in to pick up last minute stuff for christmas, and the guy employee was so rude I walked out. I left everything sitting in the cart. The guy had the nerve to follow me out and light up his smoke,as if he got off on being a jerk. From now on me and my family will go somewhere else.
i went into a dollar general in buffalo new york to return a set of defective christmas lights they told me that they could give me store credit off my bill if it was done before my purchase instead of voiding out the purchase to put on my return credit the manager just looked at me with his mouth hanging open i got upset and told him to just take the defective product. Managers and employees of this store are so ignorant to customer service it wasnt even the refund that pissed me off but the fact that they just stood there and looked at me as if i was speaking a foreign language....Terrible i will never bring my business to another one again!
my girlfriend and i have been shopping at smith center ks dollar general. Ever sense cheri hrabe has been working there is been very rude to us and to our family. If something doesnt happen soon i will go other places to make sure something is done about it.
DG store in sayre ,Pa is not a very friendly store to go into to shop.there are are only a couple of workers there that are remotely friendly,and the manager is not what i would recommend as manager material.she is almost never on the sales floor.she is very arrogant.
there was the rudiest lady i have every met in the union city tn store i asked her where to find something, she looked at me like i was stupid!! Her eyeys were so red she could hardlly see out of them i had never been so imbarressed in all my life ,not only did she not show me she was just down right ugly , if you ask me being a good christian lady i would tjing she would have been something she shouldnt have been!!!!!!!!! i also work in the public and always the customers come first ,if i couldnt find anyone yo hire better than that trash i would probsblly lose the store , i have to say everyone else is very nice but this lady really needs to be delt with i bet i want be going back and know very many people in the comunity that i will be letting this know !!!!!!!!! if you wanna keep it a float she needs to be GONE HER NAME IS TINA FLIPPING soon everone will see what im saying and i live in martin and ther talking bout her ugly ways THERE . i will take futher action if something isnt done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Actually ZERO stars is more like it!! This company is a disgrace, & based on the other reviews on this page, apparently being RUDE & completely RIDICULOUS is the only qualification for a store manager at Dollar General. I'm just relieved to see that others have had these kinds of issues. At least I know that regardless of the complete apathy & lack of interest DB has in resolving customer complaints... I'm not alone in my disregard for this company. For the record: I have complained to their corporate headquarters no less than 3 times trying to resolve an appalling incident that happened at their Raymore, Missouri store. I've just now had to request that a Regional Manager get involved since neither the store manager or district manager will resolve it. I'm now becoming aware that my attempts will probably just be futile as it is clear this company cares little about their customers. Despicable!
Hello, I have shopped at Dollar General for many years here and in New York... I love to go there today I had a terrible experience after a long day at work. I go there to relax and end my day..I was on a mission to buy Toys For Tots toys and toys for work as we give them to the unfortunate children, and my own personal shoppin for Christmas.. I get all done and proceed to register cashier was very friendly offered me coupon as I forgot mine. I had two seperate orders. One for work for the unfortunate families and one for myself as well for the families. First order was completed with no receipt, ok second order with no reciept, ok mind you paid with bank card.. need documentation of payment for my books and check book.. cashier stated .."you know our policy we will take anything back with no receipt" not even on my mind by this time asked for reciepts cant get into system to get last reciept and cant contact manager for code "not answerin phone" Bottom line had to return two seperate orders and credit cc what I was due.. By this time needed to be home to feed my own family... Would you leave with no receipt of 100.00 worth of merch. and feel comfortable? Winston the cashier was awesome Mgnt. was terrible I as far as now will never go to Dollar General again. Please remember word of mouth is not good for business. I am so dissapointed and frustrated . I shop at the dollar general store in Murfreesboro, Arkansas almost everyday. I love being able to go there and get all the great stuff I used to have to drive to another town to get. However, I am very upset with an employee at the store here in Murfreesboro. He is hateful to the customers. If he is stocking shelves and you either ask him for something or if you need something where he is at he will be very ugly when you bother him. Also he does not like it when me or other customers pay with a check. This is the holiday season and it would be nice for him to be nice and not a jerk to the customers. Yesterday I witnessed him being rude and ugly to 3 different people while I was in the store.
I was applying to be an asst manager at the dollar store, and i was turned down from employment becuase the acting manager told me i had to wait until my background check was complete before doing my drug screen. This is a lie, you have to complete a drug screen in the first 48 hrs after completing paperwork. Now i have been told i will not be hired or can not reapply for employment. i called the district manager about how long i have to wait to apply again, still waiting for that call.
I was at the Dollar General on 21st and Mitthoeffer, Indpolis., last evening to pick up some Christmas wrapping paper and a few other items. The store was ,of course, crowded which I expected and was okay with me. I knew the trip might involve having some patience as it is the season. I got in line and waited my turn. The young man, Jay, was VERY nice and polite to everyone he dealt with asking if they would like to donate to the Jude's hospital like he is suppose to. Well, the lady in front of me had some items and she asked for a price check. It took some time because the meter Jay used was giving him fits. He eventually solved the problem. The lady slid her card and it wouldn't take. He encouraged her to slide it three times, and eventually she got mad and got what she could afford with her cash. She left in a huff. I could tell Jay was embarrassed by her actions and I suppose he thought I would be angry and impatient with him as he seemed a bit nervous. To top off his night, my five dollar coupon wouldn't take. He sought help from the manager and all was well....The reason I'm writing this review is that reviews are negative for the most part and I feel employees like Jay should be commended and encouraged. I don't know if you will ever see this review, Jay, but THANK YOU for your hard work and efficency !!! WELL DONE !!!! :D
I am a customer of the Dollar General Store in Miami Oklahoma our family is every day customers Friday December 3. My wife and son was in the store shopping for Christmas and our 3 year old grand daughter. y son was showing us a digital camera on the display table that was set up inside the store under the securty cameras my son removed the camera out of the box to see if the that is what we wanted we told him it was not the one we wanted to put it back he just layed it down on the shelf next to us and we continued shoping when the store manager comes around behind one of the counters and starts yelling at our son to put back the camera or he was calling the cops the manager said he saw our son put it in his pocket he has it on camera our son did not put the camera in his pocket he layed it on the shelf and showed the store manager where he layed it at the store manager got even madder and told our son to leave the store and not to come back again that he was not allowed in the store. I would llike to see action taken against the store manger ofr making an real embarrasing scence the store was full of people and every one was looking at us as the store manager was yelling at our son who was falsely accused of something he did not do.
I really love your stores, I so wish you would bring one to east highway 321 Lenoir City TN. It would be so convenient. we do have one on Bon street in Lenoir city, but thats the other side of Lenoir City, They do not keep that one to clean though. But wish so much you would think about bringing one to this area.. thanks..
