If you are a contractor don't ever do work for Dollar General. It takes about 6 months to get paid
I beleive that the assessment test that they give you in order to be hired is ridiculus. They should look at job experience and work record.
My family lives in Immokalee, FL. We do not have a Dollar General Store in this town. The only Dollar General, near our location, is either in Labelle, FL. which is 35 miles, Lehigh Acres, FL. which is also 35 miles, or Naples, FL. which is 40 miles. I am curious why Dollar General has not considered opening a store in Immokalee, FL. At this time, we have two Family Dollar Stores. This is a farming community and is a seasonal area. The farm workers move North for the summer months. They start leaving this area in May and they return the first of August. However, there are year round residents. The two Family Dollar Stores that are here now, are busy year round, as that is the only stores of that type in this town. This town consists of a Winn Dixie, Goodwill, 2 Family Dollar Stores, numerous convenience stores. Would Dollar General consider opening a store in this location?
ok i should start by sayin i was in this dollar store about 2months ago an the cash lady about got in a fist fight with a some1....i went in the store at phelps,ky today to bring a grill back an soon as i walked through the door the lady says to me in a smart way U GOT UR RECEIPT....i told her yes i got it an in no way being smart i ask her if i didnt hav itwould i still have gotten taken care of(maybe i should hav worded it better to her)...well shes like no its not are fault in a smart tone....her an her manager look at it an they see the problem....the manager ask me if i want another 1 an i told her i think ill get it at wallmart an as soon as i say this i can here the blonde loud enough u can here it across the store dont u get smat with me,,,i told her i i dont no how u keep ur job treatin people like this...i was about ready to jus walk out i told her what i was going through wsant worth 10buck....ive never been treated this bad an me an my family that has shop there for years will not step foot in there doors
Store #02486 4901 Palm Beach Blvd Unit 11 Fort Myers, FL 33906-3250 Today I had the worst experience during a visit to the above referenced store. I was mistreated and I want your office to be aware of what “Policies” are being implemented at this location. Your employee Randy rang up my items, the receipt total was $90.26. I paid in cash and he left the register to go to the back of store. The total seemed higher to me than when I was adding them up while shopping so I reviewed my receipt. That’s when I noticed he charged me twice for cat litter. I called him back to the register and explained that I was charged twice for one item. He indicated that he could correct his mistake with a refund and asked if he could see my ID. I showed it to him and he took it and started typing my information into the computer. I told him to stop entering my information and that I don’t want my information on file when I wasn’t returning anything. I have had problems with identity theft in the past, and that is why I paid you with cash. He said that that wasn’t his problem and if I wanted my money back I would have to give him my personal information. I said this is ridiculous this was your mistake, and asked him to put his information in the system. He said no. I told him I wanted to speak with a manager and he said he was there alone but he would call him. He went to the back of the store and after a few minutes came back to the front and said that his manager told him I could either give him my personal information or get out of the store! By this time a long line of new customers had formed and I was very embarrassed. One of the new customers worked at that store last week, but she said she was no longer employed there. I explained what happened and she told him that he was wrong. She said that the gathering of personal information was only done in the case of a refund not a clerk error correction. She offered to give him her information and he said no he couldn’t take it. I offered to give a alternate address such as a work location and he said no. She said something was wrong with this and I should call the police. I waited for 40 minutes for the officer to show up. As he rang up new customers he told them that I was refusing to give out my personal information for refund and that is why the line is so long. It was a terrible way to speak about me. One other lady who was in line to witness the original encounter told them that wasn’t the case and he kicked her out of the store too. I don’t know her but he said she was harassing his customers. His customers said that they didn’t know what he was talking about. Once the officer arrived she said I would either have to walk away without my refund or give my personal information because they were a private store and this was their policy. I couldn’t believe it. To my mind that is stealing! I said why doesn’t he just give me another cat litter? She said it’s against their policy and she can’t do anything and I need to leave because she has important things to handle. So I gave him my ID and returned everything! And he gave me two return receipts which seem very curious too. I shopped at that store two to three times a month for over 10 years and have never been treated this way in my life! Your policy is a violation of my right to decide who I give my driver’s license to and should be looked at more closely. Your managers response to the young man’s’ concerns was awful! I really like my job, however there are many recent problems with this store. The store is really small, old, and the backroom has barely enough room to walk in let alone to receive a truck of freight. Our old store manager was recently let go. We now have one that's being borrowed from another store. Well our freight isn't getting worked; it's on the floors and taking up the back room. The new tactics aren't working for our store. The scheduling is ridiculous. We receive two trucks a week; we aren't getting the first one put up before the other shows up. We need a full time Store Manager with better scheduling tactics. The one we have now is too focused on going back and forth to both stores. We had a better system before, our truck was getting worked appropriately as it should. The scheduling was more acceptable before. Customers are becoming more angry at the check outs, due to the scheduling tactics. For instance, on a night shift there's typically only two employees, one cashier, and one shift manager. That isn't working for this store. The amount of sales, business, and clientel are abundant. Example: Shift Manager is on break for dinner, cashier needs assistance with a void, return, etc. That Manager is supposed to stop eating/break to help!
The type of management now is causing a hostile environment which is against company policy. Employees aren't getting their breaks,etc. It was said to me by this new manager that no Manager is to leave the store without another manager present in the store; if that is indeed the case or policy then there should always be two managers in this store at all times. If a person is on break, then they should be able to go get some food somewhere, also if there's no other manager there and a manager needs $ from the bank for change; Do you lock the door and stop business and sales? This is improper management and business skills and should be looked into by the highest of Supervisors, as I'm getting no where with DM etc. I do not want retaliation, for which I feel that will happen. However there are many other topics I need addressed concerning this stores' operation. I'd like to speak with Karen or Kathleen on such matters. On May 11, 2011, the Assistant Manager was okay to leave the store with no other manager present to go to the bank for change and make the deposit, I was informed by the new manager it was not okay to leave the store for any reason, unless another manager was there as well. It this a nepotism/ favoritism situation? On May 9, 2011, as I made my store safety check, I found that the back door was unlocked. I'm not allowed to open nor lock that door as I am not the Store Manager, and have no key for it. I then called the new manager, she asked me loudly, how the hell did that happen? I replied, I do not know. She hadn't long left the store. She then told me to get the key out of the safe and lock it. I did. I have been left alone in this extremely busy store two Fridays ago for approximately an hour.This has happened before. I'm told not to work off the clock, when I try to clock in the register will not allow it even with trying to override it. One Manager one store, not two stores. I've been given mostly nights when I've let her know she tells me she's had to do it. Of course, with sitters. I do not have sitters. My 89 year old Grandmother who can barely walk is trying to care for my young children. I'm the fourth key, there are three more above me, of which their children are either grown or much older with sitters. I've not spent hardly any time with my children for the scheduling that's been given me. The kids go to school all day, I work all night. I am the soul provider for them, as I am a single Mom. I never see them. I feel there's too much favoritism/ nepotism going on at work, as far as to say they're trying to get rid of me, and make me quit or get fired. My 6year old daughter leaves me letters on the dinner table,"I HOPE YOU FIND ANOTHER JOB, MOM"." WE LOVE AND MISS YOU VERY MUCH". I'm missing out on their tender years,for which I can NEVER get back. This Managers' heartlessness is destroying my family, as well as #1401. I like my job, customers, etc. The customers like me, they've seen what this has done to the store and other employees. I'm not the only employee this new manager has affected. I was to take over fourth key in Nov. 2009, I did. I've never received my retro pay from that time until now. I emailed my DM. I spoke to my Store Manager and her; still haven't seen it?! Do I have to contact the Better Business Bureau? Labor board? How will I support my children if retaliation occurs?!
Hats off to the Oneida Dollar General Manager James! At my suggestion that the Cosmo Mag placed at eye level of my four yr old grandson with Carmon's breast showing, be relocated, he immediately removed them from the rack. I will continue to shop there.
we were so happy to get a dollar general store in the town of greenwood,la 71033. when it first open it was so clean and the people were so frindly and caring. with in the past year. i have seen it gone down hill. from and clean, nice place to a nasty, junky store. i have heard some of the employees talking about inappropriate things. you shouldn't hear in the public place. i know i'm not the only one. because several of my friends have noticed the same thing. some of the employees are rude and uncaring. we need a store in greenwood. but, if this continues i'm sure the people will go other places.. please, do something about our store..
I went to one of your locations yesterday and had a very bad experience. myself and my family shop dollar general often and i have never encountered an employee as rude and nasty as i did yesterday. i tried to he contact the store manager but was unsuccessful due to the same employee , as soon as i left i called and she answered and told me she was the manager, and clearly she was not. I will not go back to that store and nether will my family. i am also going to post this on websites so other people will be aware of this employee and her sheer lack of respect and customer service.I have NEVER felt or been treated so poorly . Also she did this in front of other customer who seen and heard this poor poor customer service. I always shop dollar general, but i am now going to shop family dollar, they seem to have a good grip on how to treat there customers. thank you
I shop at several Dollar Generals and I have been increasingly disappointed with the condition of the stores, the lack of customer service and the quality of the merchandise. I recently shopped at a store in Buda, TX and purchased a bottle of vitamin C that was supposed to contain 60 tablets. The bottle was totally sealed and looked normal in every respect. When I opened it later that evening (after 10 pm) I could tell at a glance that there were less than 20 tablets in the bottle. Obviously defective. The bottle was purchased on Saturday and I attempted to exchange it on Monday. Before I could even tell the clerk what happened, she said 'no returns if the seal is broken'. I tried to explain to her the circumstances and she told me I should have called. I pointed out that the store isn't open at 10pm on Saturday and she said I should have called on Sunday so they could document it. I professed to be unaware that I should have called(definitely not what most stores expect you to do) and also expressed astonishment that she would believe a phone call but refused to believe me as I stood in front of her. She confirmed that this was true. In all honesty, I felt like she was calling me a liar and just kept repeating that I couldn't exchange a bottle with the seal broken. When I asked to speak to a manager she claimed to be just that. Customer service was not part of her vocabulary and obviously not part of her training. That is one store I will no longer frequent.

I used to work at the dollar general store in 10238 as a keyholder in anacoco, la. My manager there has no people skills or interaction skills once so ever. I had hardly ever called in sick the 5months I was there. I was off one monday, called in sick tuesday and off wednesday. I was still sick that thursday but still came to work. I walked into work that afternoon and my manager was there, I went to buy a drink before my shift started and stated i was still sick but came to work anyhow. she rolls her eyes at me like i was some liar then walks off. later she brings me to the office saying i needed a doctors note cause i was out for 3 days. first i wasnt out for three days only one. second i cannot afford to go to the doctor for a stomach virus cause you cannot treat a virus on the systems. the point is she was rude, arrogant and tried to make me feel like crap. first of all, she has a assistant manager who she always sends to other stores to work, she has another key holder who she either makes works as a cashier or stocker, which shows she has no planning or management skills. you dont have your third key as a cashier unless you absolutely have to for reasons such as this.. someone calling in sick. she would also make me close all the time while this other key holder came as a cashier or stocker. i was scheduled 4 days in one week to close and this other key holder was either off or came in the mornings to do her bidding as a cashier. she had plenty of other cashiers to do their work but didnt schedule them. i was fed up with this bullcrap.. i have a life too and should always have to close. she would change our schedule times of work and swear up and down she didnt.. she writes this in pencil so we cannot detect when she changes it. i was fed up with this unfair treatment from her. i worked my butt off for this woman but she has no tact. she would get mad at me for what the other key holder would do like she didnt sign off on the log at night well the manager came in that day and slammed a box in front of me and started raising her voice like i was a child. but when the same thing happened to the keyholder a few weeks later she told her it was ok that things like that happened. but yet i get yelled at.. sounds like fairness to me huh.. you can ask any employee in that store and they will tell you how she gets praised for no reason while the other keyholders and cashiers get treated like crap. i quit that day i came in sick cause i am 33 years old and i will not be treated like a child. that manager has no people skills at all.. she is a liar and even the customers have complained and even reference her as "the evil woman" lots will not go in when they know she is there. you also might want to check the inventory or loss.. cause when we get someone else inventory she will not let that other store know.. she will sell it.. it makes her loss look smaller. i thought this was stealing but she swore me to secrecy but it is on now. she also reference black people as the "N" word which i think is a polling since i am no where prejudiced. i think she needs to be checked for integrity.

I am a dollar general shopper in Perryopolis Pennsylvania,,though I like shopping at the dollar store,I would not give you two cents for the managers,rude,inconsiderate,people,,they cannot keep workers because they are so mean and hateful. I now drive out of my way to shop the dollar store.just because of these two women. they do your store no good,they should not work with the public. Most people in this town are complaining and going elsewhere. it is a shame because we live in a nice town..but everyone here has a horror story about these two women. I really hope something is done about this.
The McArthur Ohio Store is being ran very poorly Its dirty and the Manager Amber stands around and talks all the time on her cell phone.. and most of the other employees just stand around and talk about people. I quit going in there all together and so has lots of other people in this town.. I really feel that she isn't qualified to run this store.. I watch people steal from here Its easy to do when you stand at the reg. FOR 15MINS without anyone acknowledging that ur even standing there. I have walked out of this store and went to Family Dollar to buy my items.. Please Do Something about this store...I miss shopping there..
Its always nice to be able to drop by your area Dollar General Store for items to avoid the big stores. However I will never go the the Dollar General on Chambers Drive in Booneville Ms. again due to the smell when you walk in the front door. Thought at first it was dead mice but it continues now for 6 months. Has to be the refrigeration unit. Called the Corpt. office about this giving them the opportunity to correct before calling the Local Health Department for inspection.
I worked for dollar general in muskogee oklahoma at a brand new beutiful store on york street. It only lasted a little over a week cause all three managers Linda, Lynn and Andrea r the most hateful people i have ever met in my entire life. My very first time i was on register they just left me by myself with no training. Thank goodness the register r set up that u can just read what buttons to use for different paytypes and such. But i still made a mistake by accidently giving a check back to a customer out of habit of my previous job, if someone would have been with me training me it would not have happen. I offered to pay for the check on the spot, but Linda said "no". But for the next few days i was ignored, snaped at when i asked questions ect.... On my last day there Lynn and I both came in at 10a.m. by 2p.m. Lynn was at my register purchasing food. she then when to the break room and ate,she was gone about 20 minutes. She came back to the front and began stocking HBC products. I asked her if it would be okay to go outside for five minutes, she said not untill relief comes in, well relief wasnt scheduled to come in untill it was time for me to go home, so therefore i just left "quit". I don't see the difference in me waiting on customers alone while she eats than it would be for her to run the register while i go outside for five minutes, expecialy since every day before that they were letting everyone including me take a 10 min. break every 2 hours. In my eyes they were only being hateful because apparently they had decided they did not like me for some reason, but it did seem to change after the check incident. And i forgot to mention i worked for a different dollar general about 6 years ago and never had any problems i worked several months and put my 2 week notice in and finished the 2 weeks and still today run into the girls i worked with and we always have a laugh, i consider them my friends. I am taken very good care of by my husband, we own our home, our children r past babysitten age and about every couple years i get bored and want to work so i go to retail stores and get part time jobs. I remembered how i liked the last dollar general i worked at and decided to do it again. I am easy going and will do anything u ask and what i see needs to be done. I have always been praised by my previous bosses and feel that these grown women r very immatrely hateful. I also see it toward customers that have returns or other problems at this store. I strongly believe u should someway investigate these women.
When I got hired they told me that they had a store for me. They never did call back after the DM and I had our phone interview. I called alot and left messages for the DM to call me and he never did. It has been weeks and you can not even get ahold of the HR DEPT to see what is going on. For a huge corporation the HIRING PROCESS is very poor. To get to speak to someone on the phone is next to impossible. ALSO to keep someone thinking that they are hired and they have a family to take care is unprofessional. I think you should look in on your hiring process for the FLORIDA area. VERY BAD PR FOR YOUR CORP. Very displeased, we shop at DG alot and would have loved to work for this company.
