I like everyone else that I am reading believe that you train your employees from the cashier on up to the district managers to be hateful, rude, and very disrespectful to the customers when they come in the store. I do NOT shop at Dollar General any more. I live in Virginia near Harrisonburg and have been in everyone in the area and each one I have been treated like crap. Its almost like the customers are an inconvenience to the store and the employees. I would hope that the corporate office would go into each store and retrain your employees how to respect the customer. You really need to start with the district manager on down. I had purchased something from D.G. and I do not remember why I had to take it back but the cashier and manager told me that NOBODY every brings anything back here for a refund. Hello my name is Rhonda Hulsey. I frequent the Dollar Store at 3852 Dickerson Rd. Store# 2443. The employees are just wonderful. It it is very conveinent to where i live. I find all and more of what i need in this store. But i have to shop quick due to this store having no air. I think this is just crazy that i can not shop comfortably without almost passing out from the heat. I can not imagine what this does to the older customers trying to shop. This is very dangerous for your staff also. With the weather being upwards of 100 degrees and more i can not imagine what it may be in that store. Please consider fixing this issue ASAP before someone gets sick and then you will really have a problem hands. The air was also out last year and i think the year before that. Can you please explain what is going on? Is this because it's in the bad part of town? Or because this store will be closing? Please Please do something about this. Today i went into your dallor general store nuber 04143 in waldron,Ar and when i came out i had bought some multy purpose cleaner and some note books for my kids for school trust me if i could afford them i would have went to walmart but i figured id save some money anyways was i wrong when i had got home the multi cleaner i had purchesed had spilled out all over the note books because as of many tomes before the lids wasnt on tight enough so i am asking nicely and im sure everyone whos had this probalem would agree with me tell your companies and suppliers to put the safty tabs on your bottles i hate those things but at least my stuff isnt ruined and i ant wasting money like it grows on trees thanks alot from waldron arkansas

I think the big wheels of dollar general should as the program on tv (under cover boss go in and see just what your top people have to do instead of sitting high and mighty giving out more to do and complaing all the time and not showing gratitude much less thanks to those managers who are trying. JUST DO IT GO UNDERCOVER AND WORK A WEEK IN YOUR MONEY MAKING STORE WITH THAT MANAGER AND I BET YOU WILL BE MORE APPRICITIVE.

i really think dollar gerneral is a rip off i work as a stocker at their but i've been trained as a manger and i've been approved at a different store as keyholder but the store i work at (manager) say i cant leave until i she find someone to replace me is that right?

Today i stopped at the local dollar general store in glencoe, al. reciept #2011-07-05-16-02-19-02938 02, i had approximately $40.00 worth of goods and when the cashier saw my $100.00 bill she said i would have to go somewhere to get change and i cant do anything with a $100.00 bill, the lady behind me said is it bogus?, i politely told her that i had $21.00 other that the $100.00 bill? and did not have time to go get change, i have been a loyal customer in the past but will not! ever grace the doors of a dollar general store again, as i do not pass bogus money. I was really excited when a Dollar General opened up on our very very small town of Colfax, Wisconsin since it is about a 35 minute drive to nearest town. I found out right away that they were not customer friendly. I worked in retail myself and we ALWAYS were stressed to by our managers in meetings on how to go out of our way to help customers and greet them. I walk in the store and your lucky if anyone is even working. You go to the register and have to wait and wait until they show up as there is no bell. You might be lucky enough for them to ask you if you found everything ok .... and I so want to say no, but you weren't anywhere to be found to help me out. My BIGGEST complain is their outdated items. I go there to by 2 litters of pop only for the dates to be expired by 2 to 3 months. I have mentioned this to a manager twice now and her answer is to blame the Pepsie guy for not rotating!! Well, I sent my husband to get me some pop since I was home sick (not remembering to tell him to check the date - which I shouldn't have to do) only for him to come home and I checked and it was 2 months expired! I called manager demanding a refund and she said they wouldn't do it as it was my responsibility to have checked the dates before I bought it. This is unheard of and you know what ... if you go back to that store ... the pop is still outdated and people are buying and drinking not realizing it. It is unbelievable to me that this would be allowed to go on. Will it take someone getting severely sick from outdated items before something will be done?!

On June 30th 2011, I went to the DG in Caney Kansas. After entering the store I noticed a line at the register half way down the isle. The other clerk was wandering around putting flags up, just sticking them here and there…I asked her if they still had the Pringles in stock that were on sale, she got really huffy and with a sarcastic tone she pointed in the direction of where they were stocked and said “if you think you can find any”. After getting the pringles I went to the register and she was working the register now and handed her my purchase. After ringing it up the register would not take my coupons, it accepted only one. She got really nasty and said you can’t use four coupons, I said read the coupon, it said only 4 like kind coupon on anyone shopping trip. I told her I had this problem at another DG and they had to ring them up separately as different transactions for the register to accept the four coupons….she began to throw the pringles on the counter out of the bags…I asked her if I had upset her and she said “you could have told me about how to ring up coupons at the beginning instead of waiting till now” I paid for my purchase and left the store… I don’t think it is my job to train the cashier and she was way out of line. The people in both lines were appalled at her behavior she was really making a scene She then came out and stood in front of the the main entrance and started smoking a cigarette…Her name on the tag is Courtney and the store # is 2631…This is the worst experience I have had at DG…the other complaints are that the checkers don’t want to wait on you and you have to ask them to come ring you up…I love the prices and deals at DG but I will never return to store 2631 and I’m letting people know that they need to find another DG to shop at. This was customer service at it’s worst.

my complaint isn't about the store but the employees. the store is lovely and new. as I took my purchases up to the register the phone rang, my cashier answered, it was apparently a friend of thiers trying to sell them food stamps at half their value. she didnt want them (while absentmindly ringing up my purchase not saying a word to me or the other customer the other cashier was wating on the other cashier was attempting to buy the stamps $50 for $100 stamps.) I'm not sure what that means but I do know its illeagle. the store numer is 105484 in Sarasota Florida the time was 5:38 pm cahsiers name is not on slip. when I said have a good day ladies, they didn't even look my way to buzy making an illegal transaction on company time.

i was in your Carrboro NC. store # 03015... i had just walked into the store. it was busy. i had my backpack on my back. completely zipped up. grabbed a basket and went to shop... 'Lucille' at the register yelled in front of every customer there that i need to remove my backpack and place it behind the register which made me feel like a criminal and made me look like one to everyone there. i put my backpack as instructed and began to shop...i noticed that the women in the store had their purses, some really large, that they were allowed to carry in the cart, on their shoulder unzipped...yet i was chosen to be treated like a criminal. i went through 'Lucille' line and calmly asked her why i am not allowed to have my backpack and women are allowed purses...she rudely said 'its the rules, i cant help you....you can deal with it or talk to a manager' i chose manager. 'timothy?!?' came up from the back and walked up to me. i told him the problem he said...'that the way it is' and walked away from me, opened a register and never acknowledged me again..... never have i been discriminated against so badly. i have called the cops. dexjournell@hotmail.com

I shop frequently at our store in Albia, IA....I love Dollar General and the prices they have but the service at that store is TERRIBLE!!! I have went into the store numerous times and people are at the register to check out and noone is anywhere to be found. You have to walk around the store to find someone and when you ask them to come to the register they act like it is majorly incoveniencing them. I was in the store this morning and there was 1 employee at the registers and the line to check out was halfway down the length of the store. I went around the store to find another employee just standing in an isle so I told her she might want to come up and help her fellow employee and I knew she probably didnt know how backed up the line was. She looked at me and said, "She can holler if she needs me" I continued to say, "I dont think she can get away from her register to come get you"...she just kept doing what she was doing and said "well, she will just have to holler at me"....which was what I was trying to do for the poor lady at the register. Its pretty bad when people have to wait in line forever because of a stubborn employee that wont go help out at the registers! Im frustrated and wont be shopping there again. I would rather pay more for something and go somewhere where I am appreciated than spend my money at a store like that. Im not sure of the store number there but it is the only one in Albia, IA.....

Today I was shopping at the DG store st Rock Island and the cashier was very hateful . I will never shop there again.

I walked in to the store in Hiddenite NC and I cant believe you have mangers working for your company that treats the employees like this lady did. I thought to myself I would not work for a place that allows that. This lady will scream and act like a 2 year old. If you want your helpers to help treat them with respect and more will get done. I have seen this in another store also The main people need to come off there high horse and visit these places and talk to the employees and ask them how they get treated. Some mangers need to be fired. I go in for the friendly atmosphere but now with all new people coming and going witch should tell people something with the big turn over something in wrong but these mangers are not at all nice you need to hold them reliable and do something about them instead of just leaving it alone. Lets get Dollar general back to being friendly where people like to shop. The Hiddenite and Taylorsville Store has mangers that dont need a second chance. I am head of a company and my helpers would be gone we dont need mangers that act like childern. I hope this will be read and something will be done. If the pudlic reads this try to stay out of the stores in Hiddenite NC and Taylorsville NC until new mangers are placed in these stores we need to be treated with respect we are the paying customers. I and some other customers were at the clay City DS today and I have breathing problems and its was 92 / or hotter outside the workers there when we came up to check out another lady seen I was having Breathing problems because the temperature it was hotter in the store the workers were so miserable the sweat was running down their face and their hair was soaked with sweat some other family had some children in there to get pic nic supplies they had to hurry an dget the kids out of the store they was no AIR what so Ever it was bad on the customers but its even hard on those workers they have to stay in that pls some one get their Air system fixxed dont know how long its been down but if the company wants customers to come in and not pass out it needs to be fixxed !!!!

Why does DG toss American Flags on July 1...3 days from Independence Day? Since when is the American Flag a "seasonal" item...according to a certain store manager? Also why doesn't DG, being an AMERICAN company, buy American-made flags? It's appalling that one of your store managers stated that the flags were tossed in the trash YESTERDAY!!!! I'm thinking that DG is OFF my shopping list!!! I live in Cookeville, TN!!! God Bless America and down with Dollar General for being unpatriotic!!!

DO NOT TRY TO COUPON AT D.G. I am a couponer, I coupon at all the major stores and have never had a problem. I print all the stores coupon policies and take them with me in my binder, I can bet I know more about their policies than the store managers do. When my mother and I entered the D.G. in Leander Tx the store manager saw my coupon binder and ROLLED HER EYES and sneered. When got our merchandise and went to the register to check out. She waited until we were at one register then told us she wanted to check us out at the other register...so we put everything back in the buggy and did a double laydown wheelie over to the other register. She saw the amount of coupons we had and started telling us what we could and could not use right away. Making us break things up into separate transactions even though certain coupons had no limits. Some coupons were combinable, some stackable. She refused to allow us to see what she was scanning, refused to allow us to see the screen on the register and was really just a total rude a--. When we were trying to read her the specifications on the coupons she finally said "its a good thing the other girl didnt check you out or she would be in tears". I mean really, what does that mean? We never used foul language, never said anything. She was completely put out that we had a fist full of coupons. I am head of a couponing group here in Leander, I will be advising all 150 members NOT TO COUPON AT D.G. We spent about $50 more than we should have just because this manager was too lazy to scan the coupons correctly. She didnt want to fool with us and she let us know it as soon as we walked in the door. Don't worry lady, you wont be fooling with us again, ANY of us. We will take our biz to another store that is more than happy to take all our coupons.

I shop at dollar General at least 2 to 3 times a week at the store in Owosso, Mi. To day I had to go by the one in Corunna, Mi (4 miles from Owosso) so I went in there and only needed one can of inexpensive cat food. I found "Everpet Salmon 5.5" #072562054241-1 marked .30 on the shelf and the other Everpet food was .34 ea. I was charged $.40 by cashier, I mentioned it to her, she made no effort to check or correct the price. I told her I wanted to check again, I did, I came back up and told her the price was $.30 per can. She made no effort to give me back the overcharge but said she would have somebody change the tag. I know it is only .10 but a lot of sales mount up in dollars. Is this the true practice of Dollar General? If so, I will no longer trade there. Store number 09489

I went into DG nearby and was going to purchase the Lysol No touch system using ONE DG internet coupon from their site and ONE manufacturer coupon from the newspaper (which is allowed per their coupon policy.) Well after rude remarks made by the cashier about coupons and the manager not knowing what the coupon policy even said I left without buying anything. Loss for them. I will spend my time and money elsewhere. However, I would really like to contact corporate and clarify the policy just to prove a point to the coupon-ignorant employees. I mean you would think that they would be educated on their own store policy.

I shop at Dollar General in Fredericktown Ohio, everytime I go to that store and the clerk they call Max (FEMALE) she is very rude to me. I have bitten my tongue numerous times. I dred going into this store when she is working, I spend hundreds of dollars in this store every month and have decided to take my money elsewhere unless you give this woman some more training in customer service. I dont appreciate being treated in this manner. I will be contacting the coroprate office on this matter!

I was shopping at your store #00963 in Simpsonville, Sc I had picked up 2 racks for the kitchen and a sign below them said $1.00 and a addtional 25% off, when I got to the register they rang up for $2.25, and although that is no big deal, the manager was so rude about it, stating she would not honor the sign and lose her job over $2.00, and then she rudely walked away. Customer service should be the number one priority in any retail business. I personally have been in retail management and the way the customer(being myself) was uncalled for and I personally will not be a customer in your store anymore.
