I bought a stick of deodorant about a week or so ago. The mechanism inside the stick bound up and I couldn't extend the deodorant any further out. I took it back to the store and asked if I could just exchange it for another. I didn't have the receipt and was promptly told that NO... The guy that was telling me this, was now sounding like I was trying to pull some sort of a scam... Let me fill in the blanks on me... I'm 60 and retired military, don't think I'm the scam kind of guy... the more this guy told me no the more I was determined to find a different answer. I asked for the district manager and after some balking, he gave it to me, store number and name of the district manager. When I asked him for his name, he refused... and of course he was not wearing a name tag... Beware of this store... it's unfortunate because I try take every opportunity to go anywhere other than a Wal-Mart... but with this type of customer service, Dollar General is signing its own extinction order... I have shopped at the dollar General in Ohio store 9314 for many years, for the past year the AC is broke. The employees are sweating and product is going bad. Its going to be in the 90's this week and humid..............Why isn't this fixed? I will not be coming back until it is fixed and fixed the right way. The employees are the best but to work in those conditions is ridiculous. 2 people on the floor when there should be 3 0r 4. Its not the employees fault I would think this is the district managers fault. I heard he doesnt care about that store as long as it makes money. It wont be making money is the AC isn't fixed. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was making a purchase in New Carlisle,,ohio when a customer in front of me had just gotten her mdse. rung up ,she gave the man who works there a coupon,he would not accept it , he said it was out of date, the customer showed him that the coupon was not out of date, he told her he still couldnt take it, she ask for the manager, he told her the manager was busy, the customer replied she would wait for the manager, the man then walked back to the end of the store and came back with the manager, the manager told the cuustomer the coupon was only good for the Parllayne store just 5 miles down the road, the customer ask the manager to show her where the coupon would only honor the coupon at another store, the manager wasn't able to show her because there was nothing showing that on the coupon, this is ridiculous, the male cashier at this store and the manager at this New Carlisle location should loose their job because of treating the customes with no reapect. This is not the forst time I have expereinced this type of rudeness form this male cashier. I will never shop at Dollar General store ever again.
My fiance and I typcially shop at the Dollar General Market in Ardmore, Tennessee considering that it is close to where we are currently living. One day we were shopping and I was planning on paying the bill. Upon checkout I had by bank card ready to go, as soon I was given the total I swiped my bank card, not once but twice. I was unable to pay the complete amount and my fiance stepped up and payed the total amount. A few days later down the street from the Dollar General Market we went to the Dollar General to get a few things and I swiped my bank card and my card was denied. I had went home to find out why I have been unable to pay for the items, I still had some money in my bank account. Then this past weekend while we were out to dinner, my fiance and I had finally figured out why I can use my card at other stores but not the Dollar General stores, it was because Dollar General was trying to get money that I don't even have, and my total amount from when I was shopping had already been payed for. So all in all they have changed my opinion about them.
I just happened to move to Tennessee last year. I have a local Dollar General right down the street that was very simple and fast to go and get what was needed. Well everything was fine, the employees got to know who I was because I was an everyday customer. My family and I took a friend in there one day and she had said that everytime she goes in there that they always have a shoplifter in eye view. Someway down that line it gotten back to me that I was the one stealing (make-up). I'm 21 years old and I work for a living, I don't go in there unless I have money. I was in there today and they mentioned it to me and I specifically told them that I wanted to see the proof and they refused my request. So off first hand I am NOT a theif. I can possibly go out for multiple of things such as Slander. I have been treated very wrong by the employees and I am very unhappy about this situation and something will be done about it
The Dollar General Store in my neighborhood in Decatur, GA on Flat Shoals Parkway/ Wesley Chapel Road offers extremely POOR service ! The workes are RUDE & talk about their PERSONAL lives while customers are shopping. They also talk about other customers when they exit the store. Tha manager does NOTHING to correct their UNPROFESSIONAL behavior. They desperately need CUSTOMER service training AND new employees & a new manager !!! Who ever does the placing of Dollar Generals supplies has everyone asking where this and that is. The home office has a delusional dysfunctional way of stocking shelves. Four different areas for can goods in one store is a example. Makes shopping very unpleasant to say the least.
I shop at Dollar General at least 3-4 times a week, but I think I will take my business to Freds. My Nieces 2nd birthday was filled with lifeless balloons air blown by family Member's rolling around on floor. We exchanged two helium kits both of which had no air. I had special ordered Olivia Nick Jr. balloons for all the Kids, the Kids were to take a balloon home with them. But to the 50+ people who were to make this special Child's birthday special only received four balloons with helium. Two balloons were Olivia oversized balloon that your dollar general Clerk put air in, which she didn't put near enough air in they were sagging before we got home. And the other two balloons were blown up by the same Clerk one for the Child's gift and one for an adult gift who was coming just for the childs party. The clerk informed me she didn't have time to blow up balloons there were to many people she had to wait on, so she could blow the two I brought and two I had picked out from the store. I mean how freaking long does it take to blow up only twelve balloons, I mean 12 balloons would have made the party look good, it wasn't like I was asking her to blow up all of my special ordered balloon. None the less a bummer. If you charge .50 cents to blow up balloons what difference does it make if I wanted twenty balloons blown up. THANKS FOR MAKING THE PARTY SUCKY!!!! in my store I would have loved to make a two year old happy, and if I charged for blowing them up I would have blown as many as needed. BAD BUSINESS NO THANKS FROM: 50+ people that attended. :.(

I have only one issue with Dollar General stores or the corporate entity behind them. My main concern is the indiscriminate location of their stores and an apparent disregard for the quality of neighborhoods in which they build. I live in Meridian, MS which currently hosts several DG locations. I happen to live in a central area of town that is encompassed by a nationally recognized historic designation where there is a proposal to build a new store. The location is on the very border of the historical district and in no way enhances the area esthetically or economically. The small area in question is squeezed between two historic districts and compromises the viability of both. The neighborhood is trying to work with the city, but the progress is slow. So far I have not been able to contact anyone at the Dollar General corporation who is willing to discuss this matter. Unlike most public corporations, they make their contact information impossible to find. Hopefully this message will resonate with someone and I can get the contact information needed to push this up their organization.
Dollar general in water valley Mississippi is awful! The service and quality is pathetic! At any given time you can find the staff outside on their phone and having a smoke then you step inside and the checkout line in ran by a teenage who has the line wrapped around the store. She keeps apologizing to customers for the long wait, but her supervisor is to busy chatting it up outside on her cellphone, cussing and carrying on about what has happened in her personal life. They don't care. You can not even get down the aisle because of stock that has been sitting there for weeks. The place is a mess and if you care about any of your stores you would come to water valley and clean this place up, but then again maybe you CEOs are just as lazy and mean as the people you have running these stores.
I used an EBT card in the Hackett, AR store where the cashier had an attitude and became sarcastic because I didn't inform her I was using the card. I had used the card in the store several times before and never informed the cashier and no one complained or made a remark. She stated she had a special button for that and emphasized the word special. I told her I didn't know that. She said she was sorry that she didn't mean to make me upset and be snippy. This was totally uncalled for and so unprofessional. I told her she sounded sarcastic then in a condescending tone she wanted to know if I was having a bad day. Her tone and attitude projected that she expected me to accept her rudeness just because she was employed there and that she wasn't going to put up with me because I failed to inform her of the EBT card. She needs to keep personal remarks to herself and keep her mouth shut unless she speaks in a professional manner. I can and will shop elsewhere. I find it odd that I when I tried to file a complaint on the DG website it wouldn't allow me to complete the contact form and then a popup instructed me that it wasn't a secure website. Their survey website isn't secure either and when you call the phone number for the survey you are not allowed to make any comments about your shopping experience personally.
I concur with the person who gave Dollar General a -0.1!!! I also agree with the quote " you can take the "girl" out of the ghetto, but you CAN'T take the ghetto out of them"!!!!!! I sent my cousin (who has Downs Syndrom)into the store to purchase a water and a soda. I deliberately sent him as a teaching tool, while I waited in front of the store in my car. I had a very clear view. He could not seem to find the beverage container, so I went in to help him. I then put him line behind a lady and her daughter, to whom the salesclerk was sharing a "personal conversation" with. After noticing other people who were not in line, prior to my coming in (the 1st time) come out with purchased items, I immediately went back into the store. At this time I was pretty upset because protocol in every store is "next in line", unfortunately not in this store. I then inquired, what is going on. The "girl" says, he needs .07 cents, I asked why, how much are the drinks. The "girl", then says you need to calm down, mam... By this time I was heated, while stating "you do not tell me to calm down". At which time the "girl" says in a very condiscending tone "ARE YOU GONNA GET THESE OR WHAT". I replied with "no, just give me my damn money". She then THROWS MY MONEY AT ME, ON THE COUNTER", as she mumbled under her breath...I couldn't take it anymore, as I pushed the bag with the sodas in it onto the floor (I did this as an alternative to wanting to smack the ghetto mess out of her!!!). After replaying the events over in my head, I felt for my part in this , as an adult, I needed to apologize. So, I called the store to speak with the manager. BEFORE hearing anything I wanted to say, he stated emphatically, he heard everything and I was the one wrong. He began to argue with me as oppose to listening to the customers (my) point of view. He did not apologize for her bad attitude or her nasty behavior (throwing my money). He stated she did nothing wrong, and "I'M NOT ALLOWED in that store. He did Not allow me to apologize, give my version of what took place. What happened to...never argue with the customer or the customer is always right...there needs to be less money spent on management and more on TRAINING!!!!!
The manager at the White Oak, PA Dollar General is very rude and not helpful at all. She has embarrassed me, cost me money, and has hung up on me, and all I wanted was my receipt. This has actually happened to me on two separate occassions and I wouldn't shop there if MY store wasn't in the same shopping center.
Bono, AR Dollar general does not like AFrican americans at all!!!! I went and done an application and assestment test,,,I was never called back but yet ur still calling around to other dollar general stores looking for cashiers!!! I am a high school graduate,a college(ADULT) student thats just trying to find a JOB!!!! Ive never been arrested,,never had my fingers in no ink at all,,im overly qualified so whats the problem?? I called her and everytime I call,,,she makes up an excuse about the computer being broken and she cant retreive her messages!!!!! Someone needs to look into this or my attorney will,,,and I hate to go this far as to finding a job,,but ur not gonna discriminate against me due to race. THATS NOT FAIR AND DOLLAR GENERAL SHOULD NOT BE REPRESENTED IN THAT MANNER!!! IF THE COMPANY(BONO AR) IS RACIALLY PREJUDICE TOWARDS BLACKS,,,SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE ABOUT THE TITLE OF EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER!!
I am in Cashiers, NC. Something dreadful has happened to our Dollar General Store. I was there today and walked out. The store was dirty, trashed, and terribly unorganized. I have never seen it in this condition before. Don't know what is going on but someone should check it out and make it right. Maybe there has been a change in management or not enough help or something. The town is crawling in tourist right now and the store has to be losing a lot of money. They need help...now! It is usually a pleasure shopping there but today it was not.
Dollar general in westville indiana store #11765 the manager is soo rude, talks about employees behind their backs, comes and goes as she pleases and dont gice a shit about n e one but herself. I will never shop at a dollar general store again after reading all the posts about how rude dollar general,workers are. Dollar general does not give a shit how the customers are being treated all they care about is that they,have people that will work for min wage and treat them,like dogs. General Dollar 1015 Rockford Il. 61104 815-962-5231 I walked into this store to buy ice cream and a bag of ice, after I put my stuff on the counter I started digging in my pocket for my money I found a 10 and laid it on the counter knowing I wouldn't have enough I started to dig in the other pocket. At this point the cashier black male name of Allen had finished my ring up and I threw a 5 on top of the 10. He immediately started screaming at me saying I treated him like a dog because I didn't hand the money to him in his hand. I asked him if he was serious and he then threatened me telling me to come back at 9 when he got off and he would show me how serious he was.. So now what do we have to carry a gun just to go to general dollar? I hope corp shuts this crap down soon I'll never step inside it again. As all of this was going down the manager watched her name was Katie, and said her employee didnt do anything wrong, her supervisor is Julie McCallic, or Macolic she couldnt spell it for me. So so sad when a manager cant even spell or take care of a customer...
I love shopping at your stores all around, but I went in to apply for the store that is opening in Morristown, In. I live in Morristown and would love to be able to work close to home again. I had to take a logic test, which that is what I don't understand, why do you let a computer to tell you that someone is not qualified without even looking at the application I filled out. I have been in factory work for 20 years all I want to do is to get out of factory work. I'm wondering if it's my age because what is logic now a days was not the same logic that I was raised on. I am very disappointed that a computer tells the store manager in Greenfield, In., where I applied for the Morristown, In store that I am not able to work for them. Can this letter get to someone who can answer my question? Why does a computer tell you whether your qualified or not? I have good work history and good work attendance at the two jobs I worked in the past 20 yeaars. Thank you.
