Regarding the store in West Memphis, Arkansas, 500 West Broadway. Every time I visit this store majority of the cashiers are standing outside smoking cigarettes and sitting on the product Dollar General trying to sell.Product is all over the sidewalk. Who want to buy product like that??? No one!! The manager (Tammie) be standing outside with them smoking. When you go inside, you see one cashier with a line of customers waiting to be checked out. A week ago, they didn't even have a cashier on duty to check out customer and this little old woman was asking me for help. This is one of the nastiest store I have been into. It always smells and product be everywhere. It's amazing that when I go, they have all those people on the clock that comes in after smoking but doesn't make an effort to clean it up. Dollar General sells alot of GOOD product but this store is presenting it like trash! What happen to your cameras? If you had them than you will see the same problems. I will continue to shop with you but it will be a a different location. I have been in management for over 15 years and know that it takes more than the product to make a profit. Customer service will break you just as fast as theft. I don't mean to be so blunt but I think ALL business should know how they are doing. This store stays busy but can make a bigger profit if your customer service was on point. I can't tell you how to run your business but can tell you this is not the way to handle hard working paying customers.I don't look for anything in return and again I will shop at another location but someone need to solve this problem before everyone look at it like I do. Please consider putting in a general dollar mart here! our only food store closed last year.(family problems) There are a TON of people who would shop there!!!!!! while we can get a few basic items in the current store, we have to shop in other towns & cities nearby....thanks!

I am a male and I carry a (small) over the shoulder backpack with numerous medications. I am a re-curring cancer patient and a heart patient with numerous ailments. I carry this bag because it houses life-saving medications. Upon entering I was asked to check my bag with the cashier/ leave it with her while I shop! I was very hesitant and even told her it had thousands of dollars worth of medications. I was disturbed and hesitant. After feeling as though I was rushed because I did not know the cashier personally or whom I was entrusting my bag too I left after getting just 13 items. The more I thought about the situation and the more uncomfortable I was getting I needed to just get out before anxiety set in. I carry "LIFE SAVING" medications which means they need to be administered immediately if something was too happen. I watched other shoppers walking around the store and continuing to come in after I left with (PURSES/HANDBAGS) larger than mine and they were not asked to check them. The bag I own is black and has shoulder straps and or a handle which it can be carried by! I feel I was singled out with this bag as well as perhaps because I am even male? I asked the clerk for Dollar Stores Corporation number upon leaving she gave me a 1-800 # that did not work! This episode is on camera at the store as well a women walking around with bags larger than mine that I was asked to leave with the cashier. I am offended and I do feel singled out! Will I return to this store NO! Upon leaving the cashier told me she was just doing her job. I told her I felt as though I should not have been asked too leave my bag with her because my carrying that bag is no different than a woman carrying their purses except I am carrying medical needs in my bag! I feel if asked to check my bag women should have checked their purses their is no difference! Again, women were walking around this store with purses bigger than my bag! Michael Jason Crider

Cashiers get a 10, Management get a -99 Darnell is a nasty man if i every meet one, He always has a attituded, he is very rude to the cashiers, and customers. He throws your things in the bag while ringing them up, He tells you to hurry up while you are trying to pay for your items, its like he rushs you out the store, everytime I go in there he is on the phone talking to someone, and he is always saying someone is stealing. Me and my husband recently visited a Dollar General in Hammond Louisiana on Hwy 190E. The store was extremly hot and the weather was well over 90 degrees. The worker said the unit was working, but the air temp was controlled by the corporate office in ANOTHER STATE. They did not have the ability to turn the air up or down. It was ridiculous!!!! How would you like having your unit controlled by someone not working in that condition. She said when they contacted the district manager, he said he will see what he could do. As much money as they make, why are the customers subjected to that "simple minded" management ideas. Even in this economy, good customer services is always in orde. Give us cool AIR in Louisiana!!!!

The Dollar General in Byram, MS is the messiest most unorganized dollar store I have ever been in. They always have carts of boxes stacked up in all the aisles where you can't even go down them. Then they never have anything stocked. For example, I went in there several times to get pull ups for my little girl and there were none stocked. The other day I went to get pull ups and there was one pack of boys pull ups that just happened to be the right size and one pack of the store brand girls pull ups that had been opened and several were missing out of it. I love Dollar General and this is the only store near my house. I am thinking about not going there anymore and starting to go to the new Family Dollar if something is not done about this. I don't see going out of my way just to go to Dollar General.

My management at our store is not fair. I have 3 managers, 2 assistant and the main. I have had 2 other coworkers that are not managers complain and one is about to quit because this assistant manager is very hostile towards them. It's a job and I can only tolerate so much. I've used the open door policy to speak to the main manager about these issues, but it seems to me that all the manager does is brush it off. I have a feeling that even if I went directly towards the district manager, he wouldn't do a thing about it. It's not fair, in small towns where there is not many options for other jobs people have to work in small retail stores. Just being it's a dollar store it doesn't mean that the management can treat their employees like poop. I've had enough and what can I really do if I've expressed this situation to the main guy and he does nothing about it. I wish things could be done but they won't Dollar General needs to hire better management. Less immature and bipolar ones and more responsible adults that the employees won't fear.

On 7/16/12 @ 851p, 856p Dollar General Store #027656574 Manchester Ave St.Louis,MO 63139 employees discriminated against African American and elderly physically disabled customers. The clerk and store manager (caucasian) were unprofessional, rude, used vulgar language and displayed gestural threats to me with my toddler son. The store manager told confabulations to the 911 operator. She replied "This IGNORANT BLACK WOMAN WILL NOT LEAVE MY STORE!" The store closed at 900pm and she immediately locked the doors before refunding me my $3 from an overcharge of merchandise that was not in my bag. Ten minutes earlier while waiting to check out the clerk and store manager were making subliminal racist comments/jokes about the elderly disabled African American customer who is severely profoundly deaf in one ear.The customer did not hear what was being said. Both employess exhibited inappropriate body language and facial expressions. The storemanager called the 911 again reporting that this "Irrate IGNORANT Black Woman still will not leave the store. Let me reitereate again that the store manager locked the door and was still in the process of giving me my refund. I refused to sign a refund paper because it was the clerks errror by not paying attention and the store manager miscalculations with the money. I expressed that they were stereotyping me and that I am a highly educated health care professional with 2 degrees and 5 specialty certifications. I do not have to patronize Dollar GEneral. I informed the employees that I would contact the regional and corporate offices via telephone, email, blogs and by facismile to report the lack of professioaism, poor customer service and prejudice behaviors/remarks. If this a true representation of all Dollar General employees then the corporation needs a serious overhaul in human resources. Lastly, the store manager reached over the counter and pointed her finger in my face while verbalizing demeaning language to me. She was about 1cm from touching my face at this point I told her to get out of my face and call the police! I have never experienced a hostile situation like this inside a retail store. I will give public awareness to the minority community and organizations so that they stop patronizing this retail store. The employees who work at this particular store should attend mandatory classes such as effective/appropriate communication, professionalism and cultural diversity. Both employees invaded my space(proxemics.I am outraged and utterly dissatisfied with the service and this store! Dollar General is a fortune 500 company and should not discrimination occurring in their stores.

My boyfriend went into a dollar general here in Indiana...it was on Merrifield in mishawaka and we were totally disgusted by that store. As we were walking in a father and his two babies came in the store and had his babies were in a double sided stroller the employees in that store kicked the man out bc he had a stroller. Now I could understand if it was a punk kid and if it looked suspicious but this was a father and his children. It was very disturbing. My boyfriend and I will not shop at another dollar general. And the shift manager on duty was rude and nasty. We were told that was a corporate rule and I have worked for dollar general for two years and that was never a corporate rule. Saturday I bought 2 bags of catfood for $13.50 each and an $8. universal remote for my electronics. They had a $5. off coupon for that day. Unfortunately, I had to return the remote after trying to program it for hours. First off, the employee asked if I had called the company for help. I've programmed lots of remotes. I know how to do it. It just didn't work. So they gave me a refund and refused to apply the $5. off to the remaining purchase which still was eligible for the discount. The area manager even accused me of trying to get more of a discount than I'm entitled to. This is not the first episode of pure rudeness from DG employees. I resolved to shop in another store from now on, so t hey lost a sale today and subsequent sales because they refused to honor their own coupon.

I enjoy shopping at DG, it is easy to get in, get out quickly. At the DG 1750 4th Ave. SW Bessemer, Alabama I feel the male cashier, needs much more training on how to treat customers. He never greets customers, he does not thank customers. My suggestion would be to utilize him as a stocker. Not all DG's have such poor quality cashiers, but this one does. I have been a Customer Service Manager for many years, I realize the great importance on high quality customer service that customers receive. With the economy being as it is at this time, small gestures can be vital to business's. I expect to be greeted & thanked, otherwise I take my business & money elsewhere.

i am writing to say me my mom and other family lives in prospect tenessee and we have to go all way to ardmore alabama or pulaski tenesse to shop. we love dollar stores we just wondering maybe you can put a store in elkton tenessee or prospect tenessee.

I live in a small town, I am also disabled & to be told I have to make 2 trips for sodas because the manager wouldn't go stock more on the shelves is very disturbing. I work in customer service and for my wife and I to be told this from a Manager was appalling. She didn't even care about what we needed let alone care about customer service. I think someone should look into this stores practices. They're always short staffed and no employees are around to help with anything. Interlachen FL. Look into it. i went to the family dollar store in annville ky tonight and it was packed i was the fouth person in line and many behind me when the assistant manager opened a new line and said i can help someone over here so i walked over with my stuff and she told me she couldnt help me but took the people behind me so i then had to go get in the back of the line again.i left and was very very upset...

The way management treats the employees in Brodhead Wi is horrible you should be ashamed

The Dollar General in Houston Tx. 90 Uvalde, post that they are open 8am to 8pm. Some one should tell the employees hours of operation. On any given morning the store is opened when the employees decide to roll out of bed and open up. This seems to be an everyday occurance. If the employee responsible for opening does not value their job, maybe they should resign and let someone who really need employment apply.

I and several girlfriends have went to the Dollar General in Arlington, Texas on Green Oaks Blvd. We have been verbally and physically abused by the MANAGER!!! He has touched 2 of my friends breasts or behinds. We have been told what he'd like to do to us sexually. Of course, the video in the store is erased as we have asked for proof of the assaults. What good would calling the police do us if we can't prove it. I'd like to know if there are any other women who have been abused. Maybe we could sue this man.

I thought racism was over with. I was accused of shoplifting at a dollar general store in albany georgia bythe black manager. She said i was on camera. I requested to see tape and so did responding officer. All i was seen doing on camera was shopping and paying for my purchases. I called corporate nothing. The manager sharon embarrassed me in front of customers and cussed me. She wouldnt even give me a reciept for my purchases. Defamation of character is what the law says. What do u think? Wonder why only blacks are hired as managers? Racism.

I have everly been offered the position of store manager in a new California location. Over three Weeks ago I completed the drug screen and background info. Required to start work. I am anxious to get started and very well qualified to do so. About a week into the process I got a call from my DM saying we were ready to send me out for training (out is state) and to be ready to go by Sunday night. The next thing I know a regional manager calls and says sorry he was mistaken my background still wasn't back. Needless to say I am still waiting and when I contact them they act like I am bothering them. I have a family to support and my entire life has been put on hold. No one ever contacts me to let me know what is going on or where we stand and the store is slated to open in two Weeks. I realize this post may jeopardize my position but then again with things being handled in this manner is this a place I really want to be affiliated? I understand all of your complaints, it stems from lack of professionalism from management. If I ever get started I promise to do my best to make dramatic improvements.
