Dollar General Stores: Where to begin, first of all, in the last year we have gone from 2 to 7 stores, 1 every 5 miles it seems. The new stores they are building are large but have narrow isles, only 1 customer at a time, the layout for the new stores is just stupid. Most of the time the bathrooms are out of order, I was even told to go next door to a restraunt. the cashiers are never helpful or insightful to store operations. It amazes me how I am suppose to shop at a store, when there is 10 stock carts in the isles loaded with merchandice, I have seen 5 to 8 employees in the stores, but only 1 cashier with 18 people in line, and not one employee had the common sence to call for help. I as a customer had to call for someone. Next, I will be calling corporate office tomorrow, to file a complaint, I am sick and tired of buying cleaning products and the lids not being tight, if this is a vendor problem, a employee problem, or customer problem, someone is loosening lids. I have had bleach spill in my van, dish detergent spill, laundry detergent spill, and today, I had pine cleaner spill, all of this in the trunk of my towncar. I want to know what actions DG plans on taking if any to address this situation, I am fortunate enough to live close to the corporate office in Goodlettsville, I do not have a problem driving there and expressing my concerns with them, I would highly recomend some intense customer relations training, store operations training, and obviously from all the complaints some terminations from entry level to corporate level. REMEMBER ! DG is a publicly traded company on the dow. it is the customers who either make or break a company.
I work for a Dollar General and i just read all the reviews posted up to june 3'2012. It sounds like all the Corporate People get greedy and dont care about their employees. When a person or Company of people get greedy, they will be the ones who lose.IN TIME, they will. I dont like working as if im a slave, im not anyones slave, slavery is not a way to keep good workers!!
we use to do alot of buying for our shop here in newport tn at the store on cosby hyway but i will not return to any of ur stores again and will let others know not to shop there i sent a a worker over to the store to pick up just a few items some tissue paper and another item and he ended up being a penny short on the bill but instead of u guys being nice she madd him walk all the way back to our shop and get a peeny for what he bought id this is what u guys do just for one penny then it is wrong i have my own shop also but i would never make a custmer not get anything becaouse they were a penny short i just think that is just piss poor way to run a store the maniger was very rude and just did not care
I love the deals I get at Dollar General, but customer service sucks. I thought it was just in my Chanute ,Ks store, but I seen posts from all over that address the same issue. I am a very non-confortational person, and yesterday the cashier had me almost in tears. She informed me that I made her drawer off the week before because of the amount of coupons I use. ( I always dbl chk my reciepts to make sure everything was taken off properly) She told me she wasn't going to honor one of my cpns this week to make up for the shortage in her drawer from the week before. I told her she was going to honor that and I've been in DG enough times to know their computers to know it will not allow you to dbl enter a cpn. She finally gave me the discount, but not until she made a spectacle of me using cpns. Please DG start training your employees on proper ettiquette with customers. I almost applied to be manager of this local store just so I could train people. I've had cashiers there discussing their sex lives in front of customers. We are in the middle of the Bible belt, and it really wouldn't matter where we were, that's not acceptable.
FIRED FOR 'GRAZING' MISCONDUCT - I appealed and got it reversed !!! I am diabetic was alone in store on register with 8-10 in line, blood dropped ,can't keep my O.J. up front (company policy) so I had to grab $1.69 O.J. from cooler, drank it, paid for within 5 minutes. Had to make customer wait while I did. - 2 months later fired for grazing by DM and PLRM (Profit/Loss Reg. Mngr) when they came to store to do yearly audit. My manager knew I had, had to drink company O.J.. Here is DG's BIG problem. My mngr had not been trained (which is DG responsiblity to train all managememt) on ADA laws (EEOC is gov agency that makes sure ADA laws are upheld, if they sue you, you know you f'd up)and did not offer me a 'reasonable accomodation'to keep my O.J. up front and since insulin dependent diabetes is termed a "disability" it is covered under ADA regulations. So when DM and PLRM fired me, (my DM knew VERY well I had diabetes) I stated the only reason I drank O.J. was due to my blood dropping ('hypoglycemic episode')- DM and RLRM advised me that I could contact HR to ask for 'special permission' (they didn't even know the term 'reasonable accomodation'- I WROTE THAT I WOULD DO THIS AND SAID I WOULD DO IT- I also included in my statememt that the only reason I broke company policy 'grazed' was due to my medical emergency. SO......then they fired me. REALLY WRONG THING TO DO..... this is called disability discrimination under the ADA laws. SO- when I appealled my 'misconduct' termination to the Tribunal and DG did not even show up for the hearing and they reversed decision that I DO get UI and that my actions was not misconduct(you don't win just because they don't show, you still have to prove Non-misconduct) SO NOW - I have done tons of research on ADA/Discrimination and I have retained an attorney - BUT-----I did not know really what the ADA is and that I was termed disabled under ADA definition, until fired. So my point is to share with you to be educated on those big posters handing in break room about ADA, etc....know your rights...I have learned sooooo much and got a great big back pay when I won my UI appeal !!! Thank you Dollar General. Also you can get what is called 'service letter' from DG while employeed or former employer. Letter must have name, address, signature and send it to your immediate manager or dm and also a copy to HR Corp Office, MUST be sent CERTIFIED RETURN MAIL - they MUST send it and they have 45 days from time they signed for it. GUYS - KNOW THE LAW, IT IS SUCH POWER. I found out 99% of all of this with my own little fingers typing in questions, taking notes, cutting and pasting into documemts I made, I even contacted LAIT (free legal aid) and had a free lawyer go with me to my hearing!!!! Just research research research,,,,,I am so glad I did. By the way take a minute and check out the following case, (the EEOC which is the fed gov is suing walgreens for the same thing DG did to ME !!!!! Just type in - HERNANDEZ V WALGREENS LEARN THE LAWS....... Don't be a victum be a victor. Whish me well..... thanks for listening.
I did NOT mean to rate DG a five star. My bad, i just wrote and then sent. Got it right this time !!! Listen, I am so stress free now that I don't work for a company that assigns what really is physically impossible to do, with the hours for payroll and the often ridiculous requests/assignments given, and the managing by fear, etc, etc. BUT - listen, another alternative is to be a Caregiver, Companion to elderly. Probably more pay and very rewarding IF IF IF IF you love older persons, remember,,,,we all get a turn... you may need someone someday, and besides this is a very secure job and huge growing industry.
Sebree Ky store has no air conditioning I will not be shopping there again...Plus I will be telling all my Facebook friends to avoid it at all costs. I am surprised you have any customers let alone employee's...YOU SUCK!
I shop @Dollar General all the time but am seriously thinking of stopping. An Assistant Manager Andrea told the police that my son stole a cake mix and icing when the officer came to my house he saw my son was not the person who did it and he was not out of the house. I was upset because Andrea insisted it was my son. I told her it wasn't she was rude and sarcastically threw me an apology when I left she informed more customers that it was him or someone who was identical. She took a known drug dealer back to her office and showed them the footage which they also verified was not my son. I have been in; the store when little old ladies asked to use the bathroom and were told no -- but she can take a drug dealer to the back office --Do you know what is wrong w/ this picture? BESIDES THE POOR CUSTOMER TREATMENT AND LACK OF RESPECT!!!
Dollar General at 4915 West 7th Street Texarkana, TX has been without AC for 6 weeks cause the owner who does not live in the US refuses to pay to fix it. The store closes at around 2pm everyday cause of the heat yet employees are not compensated for hours lost. I would think this would be a safety or health concern not just for employees but any shoppers as over 100 degrees of heat could cause problems for products they sell as well as heat stroke or exaustion.....
On July 12 I visited your store in Hampstead, NC 28443. The store had no air conditioning and I was told that it hadn't had it for a week...our temps were in the high 80's low 90's.....not only do I feel that you have a low opinion of your employees, but your customers as well. I usually visit this store and Family Dollar down the street several times a week. Unfortunately, I have been away and just now had the opportunity to send this e mail. Your employees are great and to treat them other than with every respect is a real bad mark on your company policies. Hopefully, you will take note of this and change your policies so that not only is the 'customer always right, but in many instances so are the employees' when they complain about a problem in their store. thank you. nancy a. brennan
I have been trying to the Dollar General Store #11948 since 7:00 last night 7/18/2012 and have called them all day every 30 mins. And still have not gotten an answer. And when you are at this store in the evenings you have to stand in line forever they do not get in a hurry at all. Sometimes when you are in line their could be 10 other people in line but they just don't seen like they care at all about opening another register. Other than them no answering there phone and having to stand in like it is a great place to shop.
To other reviewers: The reason the store is half-stocked, poorly stocked, and things are in the aisles: Corporate management does not allot enough employee hours to get these jobs done. Corporate allots enough hours for 1.5 employees to be there daily, which of course means 1 is often on the register and cannot get things done. This is the same reason that older stores are often dirty. Employees are never allotted time to clean, and in fact are pressured to spend every free moment stocking. The reason employees may be reluctant to do returns is that the computer does not allow them to without a manager's key; also the scanned price is impossible to change without the manager's key. Should I also mention they can get in trouble if they do too many returns, which may mean 2 a day? Oh, and if you bring something to the counter to check the price, and the clerk scans it to see how much it costs, the clerk will most likely get in trouble for that price inquiry. Management views that as suspicious behavior on the part of the clerk to be doing price inquiries and returns. They think they are stealing. Oh, and if an employee doesn't open a second register to help in the situation of a long line, it may just be because he/she will get in big trouble for touching a drawer that isn't theirs. Management is afraid they will steal... Do not work there if you need reliable hours and/or expect to move up the totem pole. Corporate management hires too many employees per the allowed hours in order to keep employees desperate for hours and work the ones getting paid less. A raise for hard work will not be forthcoming. This is a decent job if you don't NEED the money and just want to work a little extra on the side (for minimum wage).
Apparently no one from Corporate reads these complaints, as I see no responses from them. Maybe they think that in this economy that they have nothing to fear, but when news gets out about all these stores not being ran properly and they start losing their big bucks, then maybe they will listen!!!! The Store in Holtville, Alabama has very poor management with stock stuck in the isles all the time, employees smoking outside and not working, these stories all sound similar don't they?
So sorry to hear sooooo many dissatisfied customers with dollar general, the one i shop at in ridge manor Florida although it can be hot on there ( the employees ALL IN BLACK ) the employees literally dripping with sweat!! The girl's that work there are very friendly and helpful. I noticed the manager helping an elderly woman put her groceries in the car for her. I worked for dollar general some years ago, and although it's not an excuse for rudeness but DG pays their employee's the lowest wages allowed by law, allows them to work with broken equipment and truly doesn't care off their employee's stay or go their outlook is " the ecomy is bad someone always needs a job " the sad thing today is that when people realize that their company doesn't care about them... why should they care..i can only hope employees at the ridge manor location realize DG doesn't care and come
While checking out today at the locl Dollar General, the cashier preceded to spray my 6m old daughter n 7yr old son in the face with HotShot bug spray. Of which, resulted in a hospital visit for all three of us due to the poisons nd chemicals in the product that she drowned us with.
The dollar general in Kannapolis N.C has people working there with bad attitudes and someone need to get them together if they dont want to work they sould stay at home.My mother went there with her EBT card and its broke but the man Ken said that they could not come type her card in.
