after talking to 2 customer service people at different numbers, I finally found out that Dollar General does sell gift certificates. I am trying to buy one in my state to send to a neice in another state. I thought I was asking for the combination to their safe. If your consumer people dont know, then who does?? after talking to Chris Cheynne ( who didnt have a clue), I looked up corporate's number and asked them. The guy told me to call the store, which then I asked, do you sell gift certificates or not? Why do I need to call the store? I called one store and got a answering machine. Cmon, where is the service?
A new store opened a little over a year ago up in Florahome, FL and the community only needed an alternative shopping store for low income families and the elderly to be able to shop without having to drive 25 miles to the nearest grocery store or large department store. We are a very rural community in which so many are unemployed and without transportation since we really have no business in our pass through town off of 100 other than a feed store a gas station and now the Dollar General. Although we are so grateful to the convenience that this store has given our community since so many of the residents are also on Food Stamps and use this store daily for a good deal of shopping when they have no other means of getting to a larger store to shop we are all still concerned over cleanliness and fresh products. My major concern is that the coolers that keep the frozen foods and the milk and beverages are absolutely filthy, there is black mold growing on the shelf's and a terrible smell inside the coolers like spilled milk that soured. I have seen other customers in the store reach inside and comment too. I know of a time when a store manager was approached and it was mentioned to her that she really needed to spend more time on getting the inside casing cleaned out and disinfected before the health department came into the store. She said really, oh well I will get someone to wipe it out. I am in the store on a regular basis since gas prices remain so high I limit my travel into Palatka or Keystone to shop only once a week and fill in during the week at Dollar General. I have now went to buying my milk at the gas station next store and also, I have found out of date products on the shelves. I have taken home stuff that actually contained mold. So now, I don't shop for breads or anything else without checking it very carefully first. Please see that the DM in this area is made aware of the cooler containers on the wall to the right of the store so that our community can continue to use this store without having to sacrifice our health. Another thing that would be very helpful to mention to all Mgrs and store employees would be that they make sure that the customers have all of their bags before they check out another person. I experienced and so did others leaving the store with our products and discovering once we arrived home that we were missing a bag or two. The check out person would take our payment and say to us have a good day and begin checking someone else out. Often a bag or two were still on the spindle rack. When we returned with our receipt we learned that the store clerk put our products back on the shelf and just wrote down the items that were left inside the bags. This meant that we now had to take our receipt and recollect and find our paid for items once again ourselves. I litterely went home 15 minutes from the store called the store and told them I was coming right up to the store and in that short time they put my items back on the shelf. They said they did not want to clutter up the front counter area with it. Well for elderly people with walking canes spending the time driving back up to the store and having to walk around and find it again is a bit much since no other store puts back your food enless it is frozen or cold goods and than they will ask you if you require there assistance and would like for you to have them go get it for you. Really, its rude and poor customer service skills and obviously if it is occurring that frequently that they have too many customers bags left behind than someone needs to make sure the customers bags are removed before they leave. Just take that short minute to spin the wheel of bags and make sure its all clear before beginning to check the next customer out. One other customer came home with an extra bag of things he did not purchase from the store and figured it was in error so he verified that all of his purchases were accounted for and brought the bag up to the store in case someone called looking for it. At least he was honest, its difficult times out here and we in a small economically challenged community feel this so much so that if an extra bag or two came home accidentely with someone they might be inclined to not return it so please make sure that the employees are all retrained at this store. Thank you.
The Florahome Florida store is new to the community, however, it seems that every-time I go to the store the register area or front area is vacant someone usually comes out of the office in front eating or they are in the back of the store stocking. Sometimes they are gabbing out front. The store is not always clean either.
Why don't you handle DG AAA alkaline batteries anymore ? All you have now is AA now! Please get them in the Marceline store.
STORE # 12451 Ladys Island, SC....I have had two very unpleasent incounters at this store with there New Manager KATHY, I shop at this store at least 2 to 3 times a week, but I am really tired of the NASTY attitude that Kathy has, so I will be taking my business to Family Dollar down the street. I went in to make a return a few days ago and was told by Kathy that " this is a Dollar store you get what you pay for " and stood and argued with me over the item that I was returning. As if that was not enough I ask my Husband to stop in there and purchase 2 1/2 gals of milk , a dozen eggs, and some envelopes, Kathy waited on my husband his change was twelve dollars but was only given two dollars, which means my husband was short changed 10.00 when bringing this to Kathy's attention she AGAIN wanted to argue about it. Kathy took my husbands reciept and kept it then told him he would have to wait to the next day to find out if she was over. I called the store when my husband come home very upset and ask Kathy what the procedure was when someone was short changed and she said "I TOLD HIM HE WILL HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL TOMORROW and I DIDNOT SHORT CHANGE HIM!" I then asked if she could just please look at the camera to see if she gave him the money and she said "NO" I then asked for the corporate's number and Kathy just flat out said she did not have it or know it! REALLY !!!! I sure do hope that someone explains to KATHY that without customers she will be unemployed, maybe she would treat and talk to customers as myself better. I optained corporates number on my own and believe I called....I am waiting to hear back from them! STAY AWAY FROM KATHY!!!!!!
i totally agree with the person that wrote about near harrogate tn.I worked in the new tazewell tn location,the assistant manager there is very rude to people.and the employees.i have never seen a store go down hill so much in such a short time.and to think this assistant thinks she's going to get her own store soon.i think the corporate should think twice on this one if you want your store to succeed.this lady is not manager material.anyone who reads this know exactly who i'm talking about.
I use to shop the store in Labelle Florida and now I have switch to the Family Dollar because i am tired of having to trip over stuff left in the aisle and then pick thru out ofdate products to get a good one only to have to stand in a line 15 people long because only one cashier is open and that one is in a fight with another employee that could be opening a checkout but she has go outside to sit under the No Loithering sign and smoke. The Manager is usally in that spot and if you stop and say anything to her about store she gives you a dirty look and a snide comment about how its her store and she runs it the best she can, well guess what? thats a poor attitude and one that I now dont have to put up with since I swiched stores. Someone needs to look in on this store without informing them they are coming.
Ok I live in Ft Denaud Florida so I have to shop your Labelle store or the Lehigh Acres store which is furter, after the poor service in Labelle I make the longer trip to Lehigh, there is never anyone that will help you find anything in Labelle and the cashiers seem to think that its ok to stand there and chat while people are standing inline to check out, its ok to be friendly but must they discuss thier personal problems with everyone and please tell them its not ok for 3 of them to stand around outside and smoke while the store is busy especialy the Managers.
I shop the store n goodman mo today there were two employee standing at the front door smoking to get in the srore i had to walk between the two of them smoke and all. Picked up my product then had to wait for one of them to pit out the smoke to come in and check me out. Think im done going to this store because as sad as this is it happens every time i go there. There is always someone standing outside smoking.
I am delighted to rate this store at 2855 McDowell Rd Ext in Jackson, Ms. I appreciate the store manager and his employee. I had a question about products and the employee didn't waste my time. Immediately got the store manager, Garvin Williams and he intelligently explained to me about the product you had in your store. You know I like what I saw. The Store Manager was visible and working so hard. I have been employed with my company for many years and if we had managers like that instead of just sitting at there desk we could have gave better customer satisfaction. He, Garvin seems to understand and I felt like he really cared to give a person who shops at that store some of his valued time. I left the store appreciating him . A store manager that understands. Thank you President and CEO of Dollar General for having such a young man of excellence. Cudos' to Mr. Garvin Williams. Thank you.

I recently shopped at the Dollar General store in Munforville,Ky. I have to say the employees were very friendly and respectful to me and other customers. The problem at this store is they don't have enough help. The people working there are doing all they can to make your shopping experience good.However everytime i go there the shelves are empty, but if you go by the stock room it is full of items that need to be put out. For example i needed bleach,there was none on the shelf. i asked an employee about this and he went into the stock and found me a bottle.This store use to be super, people in our town called it our little Walmart, now we call it the useless piece of shit store. Dollar General needs to wake up, all your business is going next door to Freds. Get a district manager and store manger that will straighten this place out. when Sonnie Dye was the manager it was a top notch store. Check your records.Also the grass along side the store is over my head. Get it mowed. I have reported this to the city council
I was in the dollar general store tonight with my mother in law, and we were going to but some tums. We put them into the cart an proceeded to walk around the store. I decided before we checked out that I didn't need the big one, so I walked to the aisle and put them back and got a smaller one. Next thing I know, the manager is almost yelling at me in front of other customers about where I put the tums, apparently she thought I stole them. I told her I put them back and she said she didn't see me on camera. I told her to look again. The whole time she has her voice raised and is embarrassing me in front of other people in my town. Then she said that they had me on tape from a few months ago stealing. I told her that it was NOT ME! I asked her if I could see these tapes and she said NO. And another employee saw it and said I used to work there, I did use to work there, but it was NOT me on the tapes. I have had this happen before and it was this girl who looks like me, and it was proven it was not me. I was wondering how long DG keeps tapes and if I can do anything about how she treated me. I left in tears and have never EVER been treated this way in my entire life!!! What can I do? Would the footage still be around? PLEASE HELP!!
I went to the Dollar store located 801 Dixon Blvd., Cocoa, Florida on 09/03/2012 and the Manager on Duty (Tina) was very rude and offensive. She openly complained about the nieghborhood of the store (low income nieghborhood), and told a young woman there (obviously there to visit her) that she could not stand the Mexicans that comes into the store. There was another customer there that was told by Tina that she is the reason she works in that store. I went into the store to purchase dog food, and I was talking to another customer about the price. I stated "I could probably get this cheaper at Walmart", Tina turned to me and stated, "Well I guess you need to go to Walmart, because that's our price and we don't compare price." Until this visit, I enjoyed shopping at that store because of the pleasant atitude of a very professional associate name Crystal. However Crystal was not at the store at this time and my experience was horrible. I will not return to Dollar General ever again. I was offended by Tina's racist remarks and atitude and I would rather pay higher prices elsewhere, than to be subject to that type of atitude.
Your store on Camden Rd in Pine Bluff needs a new Mgr. I was in there last e Week. I was in line and people were behind me. I just scooted my basket in a side isle unt I got checked out. The lady (mgr) looked at me and asked if I was finished with my buggy. I told her yes meaning unt I got chkd out and was going to take it outside to the rack. Before I could say anything else, she walked FTP Behind the counter with me waiting to be chkd out and got the buggy and took it outside and then moved another one before she started checking me out. She was rude too. That is not how you treat customers. Will not go back to that store. I will drive further to keep from going in there.
Store on East Bay Largo FL is stocked nicely very organized . I go there often and have bonded with two employees. At my age its hard to find respectful helpful young adults who assist you an guide you to a wondetrful shopping experience. I grade Buddy & Cori 5 stars these gentlemen are so helpful. I went in a week ago an asked an employee if this store carried wine she looked at me rolled eyes and kept talking to co worker. I then asked to speak to the manager and she replied thats me. I asked for name she only would tell first (Alida) I assume. Ive been around 63 yrs I can tell when someone is racist and by far she is. I told her attitude would determine her future and be careful how you treat your regulars. the old manager would never do nothing like I've seen or witnessed. Unprofessional ignorant and arrogant. If she's leading your DG will crumble. I will not be going back Sincerely Edna

I had worked at dollar general for five years. there was about at least six store managers that where let go because of lies from a dm. his name was nat. everytime any of the cashiers,stocker or managers tell on him that they where fired for made up reason. its funny how you can give 120% and work more than 70 hours a week by your self with no help. the hurt from this company hurt my very soul.
