Hello, I'm an author of a book you have on the web: Pokey Goes to America. Today I went to one of your stores to ask if they carried the book and was told no. If you wouold stock the book in your Dallas Stores and nearbyes, I would be happy to do "story hour" and book signings. I think this historic fiction for 5 & 6 yr. olds is informative, and entertaining. I also have other books waiting to be published and would do the same for them. Best wishes, C.J. Arnold - Connie Barr
So I recently had my identity stolen and had to cancel all of my cards. I had purchased a nook book 2 weeks ago and went to download it. Suprise Suprise I was not allowed to download my ALREADY purchased book because they needed to pre authorize my credit card (which was shut down) for .01$ yes you read that correctly. When I inquired they stated that they would hold it for 24-48 hours. I called customer service and was rudely cut off by Juan who transferred me randomly to a how to use your nook menu?!?! I called back and "Manuel" told me that he didnt have a supervisor available. Called back again and got a "supervisor" who told me it had to do with copyright issues?? Now I have been on hold with B&N Corporate for close to 45 minutes. I will never reccomend this product to anyone ever again.
B & N employees are not clear on the information they are giving customers. I have spent hours today on line, on the phone with customer services reps and in the Wellington Florida location trying to redeem old gift cards! I am SO frustrated!
Got a new nok from B&N and it has older software. After trying to update via the manual process I finally called the tech support line. After being grilled about my name, etc. I was placed on hold for over 30 minutes and the rep "Paul" if that is his real name, never came back on the line. Guess it was time to go to lunch with a caller on hold.

As many have said, I would rather give zero stars, but that is not an available option. I have been a B&N customer for over 12 years but will never be in the future after the last visit I had at the Beaverton, Oregon store. I have been an educator for 12 years, hold a Master's degree along with a Reading Endorsement that qualifies me to be a Reading Specialist. For 11 years I have received an educator's discount at B&N when buying books to be used in the classroom. Due to the economy I have been laid off three times and have substituted for the past two years due to the lack of positions available after budget cuts. I am telling everyone I know what happened to me and they are also vowing not to shop through Barnes and Noble again after hearing of my experience. On Friday, June 8th, 2012, I went to B&N to purchase a book that would be placed in my classroom book collection. My B&N Membership card had expired and I had not renewed my 'educator's discount' card because the Membership card gave a better discount. I asked to renew my 'educator's discount' card at that time and produced my Beaverton School District identification card which stated that I was currently a substitute. The young lady behind the counter stated, "Oh, you're a substitute. I can't give you the discount because of that." I asked her to explain and she continued with," The teacher discount is only for real teachers, not just ones who go in when someone is sick." I explained to her that I was a laid off teacher and had gotten the discount for 12 years. Her response to this was, "I don't make the rules. I can't give you the discount." I have never been more offended by a customer service employee. An educator's discount can be used by anyone who works for a school district, including Educational Aides, Principals, and those who work in District Office who spend little to no time in a classroom. B&N employee's should not make false statements about positions in education. Substitute teachers should not be treated with such disrespect as to be referred to as not 'real teachers'. This position allows for an individual to be in a classroom for an entire year, teaching the same students for the same days as a contracted permanent teacher of the district, and we are not allowed an educator's discount? If you read this review, please pass on the inconsiderate 'rules/regulations' that Barnes and Noble has in regard to substitute teachers. I hope that if enough people let this company know they need to be respectful of costumers, they will either lose all business, or be forced to make a change and treat customers with respect!
You are not right the way you care for people.
Bn sucks on hold 20 min just to get thru than i lose the call amazon here i come
To inform the users of gift certificates over the internet is not wise. I have never met so many rude supervisors and customer service individuals. I was put on hold 7 times and just to resolve the matter took from 11:48 to 1:05. Sad that a matter that could have been handled in the store had to go to a Corp Supervisor. I WILL SAY IT AGAIN BARNES AND NOBLES IS GOING DOWN HILL IN A HAND BASKET and I have chosen not to use your book store anymore.
Every time I go in staten Island Barns in nobel I get this girl Sallah Roseboro and she is so rude and does't want to help the anyone who ask for it. She always looks as if she is high on something. I hope Barns and Nobel does durg testing!!!! I will never go back to this store again or refer anyone to go there.
I am so outraged right now I can barely see straight. For the past two days my son and his friend both in presitgious colleges were studying at the Barnes and Noble in Warwick, Rhode Island for an insurance test. They purchased their materials there earilier in the month. They sat at the cafe in the outside area and purchased food and drink. Today, they were asked to leave the store because they were told by Mark the manager that they were taking up room for other customers who may want to sit and purchase things. I am in such disbelief that paying customers would be treated in this manner. I then spoke to the manager who treated my son this way and in a very cold and matter of fact way he felt no need for an apology. I even further spoke to his district manager who admitted that this was not policy however it was as if I wasted my time in even complaining. I explained that she should take a look on line at the ratings of Barnes and Noble because without the consumer there is no company. With all the jobs that are lost due to this economy and all the people out of work starving for a chance to be an employee I think Mr. Mark Kortick should be very careful next time he approaches customers in his store. He may be on the unemployment line himself. Oh and I might add the boys took a picture of the cafe area which only had 6 customers in a 25 plus seating capacity area. Shame on you Mark!!! What college did you learn your customer service skills from????
Tonight I spoke with your customer support group regarding an exchange or upgrade program. My initial question was does the company support such a program and was told yes it does. I was put in touch with a customer support assistant (Jake)who asked for my serial # and indicated my device (NookColor) does not qualify for an upgrade to the Nook Tablet. He indicated the system would not allow such a transaction, I requested a supervisor and got Danielle. I told her what I wanted to do and understood there would be a cost involved but didn't feel I need to purchase the unit over from scratch however Daniele indicated I would have to do just that. I am so disappointed that B&N would not be as competitive as their competitor is. Makes me question my purchse of the Nook (less than 6 mons old) and customer service.Word of mouth is a powerful thing and I have no problems not endorsing this product.
Barnes & Noble has the absolute worst customer service I have ever experienced. I had a bad experience at a Scottsdale, AZ location on Wed & have been trying ever since to contact their Retail Customer Service line. I spent 2 hours on Wed, 2 hours on Thurs & another 3 hours today trying to get thru to someone. When I finally got thru, the person who answered option 6 (on the main menu) listened briefly to my complaint & transferred me to the Retail Customer Service line, where I was placed on hold then was disconnected. I was on hold today for over 2 hours & made at least 15 calls altogether before I was finally able to speak to someone. That someone rushed me, was rude & uncaring & unprofessional. He said he would have the Distric Manager contact me, but didn't even ask how that person could reach me; he didn't ask for my phone # or e-mail address. Besides, I had left a phone voice message for the Distric Manager on Wed & haven't had the courtesy of a call back. I asked to speak to his supervisor & that person was even ruder & more abrupt than the 1st man I spoke to. He told me "Madam, I can't talk if you're talking." That did it for me. What kind of company is B&N? A bad company for any consumer to do business with. I will NEVER go to another Barnes & Noble store as long as I live.
The employee who kicked the older gentleman out of the store saying men weren't allowed in the childrens section SHOULD HAVE BEEN FIRED!! Unless they are security and notice a man watching the children they had no business doing this. Is that a real policy of Barnes & Noble? Why isn't there a sign posted?
I write under the name Sloan St.James and Barnes and Noble has put up one of my books without my permission free on their ebook site.
If there were less than one star, I'd choose it. Today's news coming out of Arizona is appalling and Barnes & Noble should be totally ashamed of themselves. A 73-year-old, male Scottsdale physician was shopping in the children's section for books for his grandchildren. HE WAS TOLD TO LEAVE!!!!! The excuse was that males cannot be alone in the children's book section (????) What a crock! I hope he sues the daylights out of Barnes & Noble. Not only were there no posted signs of such idiocy, but if B & N was so concerned about children being molested in this section, let them post an employee there. If they think this isn't cost effective, what about all the customers who are leaving B & N for good as of this date. How about that for cost, Barnes & Noble?? The Corp Office said NO COMMENT, and that the employee acted appropriately. Because some nosey, uptight, old matron complained that, OH NO!! A MAN WAS IN THE CHILDREN'S SECTION???? Count me as one of the people who will NEVER purchase an item from B&N ever again. Shame on you!!!!
So Mary Ellen Keating thinks it's okay for B & N to practice gender bias and prohibit unaccompanied adult men from the children's section in their stores? Don't tell me; she's one of our affirmative action bulldyke corporate executives. I smell an eight-figure lawsuit but before we head to court, a couple of quick questions: is it only straight men or are gay men prohibited as well? How about Anglo's only or does it also include Native, Hispanic and men of African descent? Keating's "We believe we acted appropriately" is going to get very expensive before it's over with. But that's what happens when PC drives your hiring and bias policies.
If I could give you a 0 I would. I wrote a book and it is on their website to order. I called Ashley Davey the Community Relations MANAGER and asked if I could please sign up for a book signing. She said she would check with the manager and get back to me. Four days later she called me back and said she was sorry they couldn't allow me to have a book signing. When I asked why? The answer was because I spoken of the Holy Spirit in my book and that could be controverial statement. They will allow all other books about any subject matter on the universe and not about the Holy Spirit. I called and filed a formal complaint about this matter. This store or manager has no right to discriminate against me in this manner.
downloaded nook app for the pc could not open the sample and when I got teck support was told it was because I didn't put credit info into form. put info in and still couldn't open sample. called teck support again and was informed there must be a problem with my computer. thanked them and called hp teck support. no problem with oucomputer.talk th b&n support "again" and was told he was sorry but there was nothing he could do. way to go b&n you lost at least one customer to amazon.
