I will never again enter one of your stores now that criminals know that they can rob and kill in your stores with impunity. Knowing that they can get away with it because you won't allow your employees to defend themselves or your customers.
company policy
I just heard of your company policy prohibiting the possession of legal weapons, personally owned by store employees, under any circumstances. A courageous store employee recently thwarted an armed robbery by obtaining his firearm from his car during the event, and then detaining the suspect without a shot being fired. He was then fired for his actions. I'm the NRA, and I vote, and in this case, I'll vote with my wallet. Until you change this cowardly and draconian policy, you'll not see my business again.
Employee who saved other
I think you should be ashamed of yourself for firing the guy that saved another employee while one of your stores were getting robbed. Rules are rules but there are always exceptions out of common decency. He saved a life for goodness sake. You should be proud that he was such a stand up person and dedicated employee. I can't believe the world today. Jobs are hard to come by now. I am unemployed for 8 months and you will punish him? Then that is misconduct, and he can't even collect unemployment. Shame on you..
Boycott
I will no longer patronage Autozone. Autozone yesterday fired an employee at one of it's Va locations for saving his boss's life. While his boss was being robbed at gunpoint an employee went out the back door to his car to retreive his personal and legally owned hand gun from his car. He stopped the robber who had already committed 30 robberies. For this the employee was fired because of Autozone's policy that employees are not allowed to bring guns into the store.
Employee firing
I will now boycott Autozone for the firing of one of your employees after he most likely saved the life of one of his co-workers by using his personal weapon to stop the perpetrator. I will do everything in my power to bring forth the word that Autozone will not make any exceptions to their policy even though one of it's employees did the right thing!
YOUR POLICIES
I COULD NOT BELIEVE WHAT I SAW ON THE NEWS ABOUT AUTOZONE FIRING A EMPLOYEE WHO POSSIBLY SAVED THE LIFE OF A STORE MGR DURING A ROBBERY BECAUSE HE WENT TO HIS CAR & OBTAINED HIS WEAPON AND REENTERED THE STORE & ENDED THE ROBBERY. THIS MAN SHOULD BE COMMENDED FOR HIS ACTIONS, & YOUR POLICIES SHOULD BE CHANGED. I WAS A REGULAR CUSTOMER OF AUTOZONE IN SALT LAKE CITY, BUT WILL NO LONGER PATRONIZE YOUR STORES.
Shop at NAPA
This company fired a VETERAN hero who risk his own life to save those of his fellow employees during an armed robbery. Another example of absolute idiots in charge at the corporate level. I encourage everyone to shop at NAPA or Pep Boys or any other parts store. Boycott Autozone and show them the same pain as the hero they fired is feeling.
It's a shame
It's terrible that you'd fire someone for protecting your store and fellow employees.I don't see how you can sleep at night. I will no longer do business in your store.I'll go to either NAPA or Advance for now on.
No more Autozone!
This company fired an employee who ran out to his vehicle to get his weapon and saved both the manager of the store and the money the store would have lost if the robber had not run away in fear. This company is run by illogical people therefore it is not a well-run company. I will no longer buy parts from them.
Policy
My auto repair business purchases thousands of dollars in repair parts annually from AutoZone. However, In light of the recent firing of AutoZone employee Devin McClean for his heroic deed in fending off a would be robber and potential killer due to an absurd and insulting to say the least. AutoZone zero tollerance policy on guns in the store. I will no longer purchase from AutoZone until the Corporate Headquarters policy makers rehire this young father to be and hero and rethink their ignorance.
customer
Complaint against firing Hampton Auto Zone employee for thwarting a robbery and possibly saving life of his fellow employee I can't believe what I heard on the radio today! Autozone fired a young employee who went to his truck to get his registered weapon to ward off a robbery taking place in his place of employment. He very well may have saved the life of fellow employee who was forced at gunpoint to get money from safe!!!! You have lost my business!!!!
Firing A Vet for Actions of Valor
As Auto Zone management hides from public comment I submit mne here. To: Auto Zone Management.(Mr William Rhodes,CEO) This in regards to the recent incident at your Yorktown ,Pa. Auto Zone store in which a store employee Mr. Devin McLean was involved in an attempted robbery of that store. As you have made an irresponsible an indefensible decision to terminate Mr McLean because of his heroic actions, at this time,an until Mr McLean has been reinstate, I will no longer engage your stores for my auto needs. I would close with a few words: (Rhetorically speaking)Where is the common sense in your actions? An really I don't want to know what you think because your current actions speak volumes. If you would, imagine yourself as a close bystander or standing at the wrong end of a weapon wheeled by a dangerous criminal who just may end yours or anyone Else's day very badly who then has the opportunity to continue to perpetrate his enterprise of crime on other law abiding citizens. Personally I hope someone would have the guts an the resources to act as Mr McLean did. Edmund Burke once stated that “ All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing”. I'm sure you think of yourselves as good people as is Mr McLean but unlike McLean you are putting yourselves in the category of the weak segment of society doing nothing. I can only hope that there are other like minded folks such as Mr McLean around if you or I are in a similar situation in need of some decisive action. Auto Zone ought to consider that while it is quite free to enforce a no-gun policy beyond the borders of rigidity, I am likewise free to buy everything from wiper blades to tail lamp bulbs at NAPA or any other Auto supply businesses of my choosing. Good bye Auto Zone
Devin McLean
You fired Devin McLean for saving your employees lives , As a long time patron I think your policy is totaly wrong and what you did was wrong , What if the bad guy killed all your employees and some customers would that suit your policy better ? Until you at least offer to Rehire Devin McLean and praise his actions I cant in all honestly shop at your stores , Devin did a very brave thing he went back into the store to save lives , you as a company can only hope you have a employ who thinks that much and about life that he risk his own Jerry Harmon Romulus , Michigan
Fired a Veteran for protecting Company
Today I read how that a employee of Autozone was fired for stopping a robbery in progress become he went out to his truck to get a gun. The employee was a United States Air Force Veteran who stepped up to protect the store manager as he was being forced to give the robber the company funds from the safe. This was the lowest thing I have ever seen from an ungrateful corporation. After this man risked his life and most likely saved the managers life not to say the cash on hand. Good Job Veteran, it shows the ethics you learned in the military. I had used autozone in the past but don't feel I can use them anylonger after the way they have done this employee in Virgina. Very disapointed in this action and poor company respect for a HERO! This was the lowest of the lowest action.
GET OUT OF OREGON
WE ALL JUST SAW THE NEW OFS A YOUNG FATHER TO BE IN HAMPTON VIRGINIA THAT WAS WORKING IN AUTOZONE WHILE HIS MANAGER WAS BEING HELD AT GUNPOINT TO OPEN HIS SAFE THE YOUNG HERO RAN TO HIS PERSONAL CAR AND GOT OUT HIS GLOCK AND RAN BACK IN TO SAVE HIS MANAGERS LIFE. CORPORATE WIMPS FIRED THE HERO. IM PULLING ALL MY BUSINESS FROM YOUR OREGON STORES WHICH IS ABOUT $30,000. a year . YOu corporate cowards that is not how we roll in oregon.
Firing
After reading the article on the young man that saved the manager's life, I contacted my purchasing agent and informed her to not to purchase our fleet parts from Autozone. I can not do buisness with a company that is this incompetent to their employees and our servicemen.
Employee relations
Your recent firing of your emplyee Devin McLean after he unselfishly put himself in harms way to rescue a fellow employee from a serial armed robber was an act of pure stupidity. I'm sure the author of the zero tolerance firearm policy as well as the corporate management idiots that approved the firing of Mr. McLean would have rewritten the flawed policy had they been the ones rescued from being held at gun point. Due to your companies dispicable handling of this situation I will never contribute to your companies bottom line again, I will boycot all autozone stores & give my business to your competitors. Respectfully,
Praise O'Reilly's
Your store policy of no tolerance needs to be reviewed. You fired Devin McLean from your York Co, VA store because he managed to escape from your store while being held up/robbed and the store manager was in peril. He went to his truck, retrieved a gun and came back (Iat risk of his own life) and saved (probably) the managers life and any amount of money from the safe the manager was forced to open. What a hero and then to get kicked in the butt for his heoric efforts. Your policy stinks and there are plenty of competitive stores in my area. A brand new store opened recently in Shawnee, KS, but I have already found five (5) families that will not shop in your store. I do believe you will feel quite the downturn in business no matter how many complements you receive in this presentation.
Never again
I will never buy another thing from AutoZone, you have proven that you have NO morals, NO common sense and NO sense of decency. A young man SAVES a life and you fire him? You SHOULD be rewarding him!
I used to choose Auto Zone over NAPA & O'Riley's. Now That I have learned of the Auto Zone policy to fire people who exercise their God given right to preserve life (i.e. the 2nd amendtment of the United States) I shal never again purchase anothe product form Auto Zone and will encourage all person that I come in contact with to do business elsewhere.
