i worked at payless in chicago, illinois for a little over a year. i was shocked to see how associates were forced to basically shove the products down the cutomers' throats, like "if your conversion is below 25%, we'll have to talk about your performance". it was okay for the manager to have poor sales because "it's okay, customers don't wanna buy today" but if it happened to an associate, "you're not trying hard enough, you're failing me". horrible return policies, basically the company has no respect towards itself, customers come in returning 2 year old shoes, getting CASH BACK ! plus, this manager hugged, touched, got way to close to his all-female team; he even spanked three girls' butts on different occasions. DM did nothing about it. seriously payless, get it together.
I just returned from shopping at a Payless in Strongsville, Ohio. I am simply horrified at the way two female employees were dressed - it was totally inappropriate! Guess they were never taught about dressing for success! Each one of them had on a strapless dress that was extremely short, and I mean extremely!(short as daisy dukes shorts.) Isn't there some type of dress code for employees????? And where was the manager - I think I saw him - a male who was appropriately dressed but obviously didn't do anything about his employees who reported to work inappropriately dressed - send them home! Plan to write corporate headquarters!
Payless Lumberton NJ Plaza Terrible customer service. Manager has a horrible disposition. Very limited sizes. I did mention the following below, and she basically told me to shop on line as I walked out. 1. There stock for a certain size is extremely low 2. Shoe displays and top shelf for that particular size were empty 3. Cashier was counting down the time while customers were in the store
I used to work at Payless. My location was pretty calm and everyone got along. On multiple occasions a fellow coworker would buy shoes, wear them, dirty them and exchange them herself even return them and get CASH back. She did this with purses too! She'd buy one use it for a week and then switch it out for a new or different one. I will admit I once returned ONE pair in the 3 years I worked there but it was not more than $15 another co worker did the same but her returns were much more. This girl eventually got transferred out and everything stopped but she wanted to return to our store. But was denied because we were fully staffed. So she called HR and told them about the two of us and threw us under the bus. In hopes to return to our store. Needless to say we were given an altimatum - resign or get fired. She is now assistant manager at her store. But karma is a b* because I will not let her get away with this. She has taken more money from that store than anyone I know. She threw me under the bus for a $15 return I did when she exchanged and damaged out shoes and purses.
Is really sad to know that working for Payless Shoe can be one of the horrible experience you can have. Most important, is you're a Hispanic or Afro-american, apparently this company and their employees (Store Managers, Asst.Managers and Distric Leaders) are the one who present this kind of attitude toward this ethnic group. I think is time to be brave, go up-front and start a movement to let this company know that we can be very loud and do something drastic to stop this. We need to educate our customers telling them what's really going on, organize different activities like selecting an specific day "The NO BUY DAY for PAYLESS" all over USA,to everybody calling Corporate Office, "Customer Support Line' and tell them "STOP" acting like we still in the Slave Era. It we do that and much more I can guarantee that they will looking at this very serious, yes because when you have a movement that's powerful and will affect their sales, they will react.
I went to the store 2817 the customer service was so poor the the girl at the regsiter was rude and use profanity name was Allison . I went to visit the store on Saturday March 24, 2012 @ 11 am .She did not even tell me about the sales going on I was so upset beuxase I shopper thier all the time.Later that evening I came back they had a another lady cashier is was very helpul and told me about the sales going on .I was so happy she told me about the sock the jwelwery was on sale. She was try to get to every customer in the store..She greet me she made me feel very wecome here her name was Ashely. That the kind of person you want to work at the sotre that make cusotmer feel every welcome and spend money here. They need to get rid of the other girl she say she was the asst mgr not very professional at all .If that was my store I would have made Aslhey my asst mger ..She is very helpful to me.
I recently Quit Pay less yesterday ,Because of my Manager She was VERY rude .she made me feel stupid in-front of the costumers i barely started Monday too she trained me for two days (i actually trained myself because she just gave me 4 cds and i had to read a huge packet) Then the next day she put me on the sales floor i had trouble just working the cash register because she barely taught me how to use it when she tried teaching me she just said "You cant see The button Because i can,." In-front of the costumer and there was a huge line i just said"Well can you do it the first time so i can learn it and not hold up the line" And the costumer just gave the manger a dirty look .that was just one of the many things she did to me.she just gives me dirty looks and rolls her eyes. She was also very rude to costumer in front of me the costumer wanted to return and exchange for something else and i had told the manger i just needed help with the last step on returning on the register and she was like "ummm are you seriose" and i was trying to run a lot check to see if we had the size the lady was looking for so she didn't have to waste time and the manger tell her"can you go look for your shoe now?" in the most sarcastic way ever i fallowed the costumer and apologized for the rudeness of the manger and she said it was"OK" i want to report this manager her name is ABIGAIL can some one please give me the number so she can be reported. And again this is only a couple incidents that happened there is many many more
The little buffed man at Payless on Tulare and First, in Fresno. He is rude, arrogant, sarcastic, and on a MACHO trip. I witnessed him putting down employees in front of customers. I figure he is the Manager, I mean who else could get away with this. The question is why is this allowed? Payless people in charge, shame on you that you allow your Managers to treat their workers like crap! I can't stand to see people take advantage of other human beings like that, HE NEEDS TO BE CHECKED! HE'S GOT A PROBLEM! SOUNDS LIKE ALL HE CARES ABOUT IS MONEY NOT THE CUSTOMERS! I WILL NOT SHOP AT PAYLESS SHOES TILL THEY GET RID OF THAT DISRESPECTFUL AND DISGRACEFUL COLD HEARTED MAN! I FEEL SORRY FOR ALL HIS WORKERS THAT HAVE TO PUT UP WITH HIM DAILY. HOW CAN SLEEP AT NIGHT?
My manager hangs out with coworkers, they go out drinking and talk about drinking and i'm pretty sure they smoke pot.my manager brings her fiance into the store with his friends, they are so trailer park. I think one took shoes when my manager and her guy were kissing on the salesfloor. My dm put her in the store so she could prove herself. The sm is a witch she over looks everything. They fire people for made up reasons the sm laughs about getting rid of people. She also has us call in the surveys. I'm so sick of having to be nice in front of this women. Who are we to call when the sm is is covering up all this bad crap going on? I hate payless and having to suggest shoe care when the customer doesnt want it or need it. Just write us up. Who gives a crap. I am not running after shopliters trying to keep them from stealing, its not worth being threatend. I dont get paid enough to risk my life ovef 9.99 dollar shoes.
Honestly, how many times can an experienced manager of many years use the excuse "Forgot to time out" on her timesheets. This is so wrong on many levels. One of the managers in Fresno, Ca likes to leave early and calls in people to go in ealrier for their shifts so that she can leave on "emergency" so leaves earlier "forgetting" to time out. So by the time she is supposed to be off she calls the store to tell the person doing the shift to time her out because she "forgot to time out" what a coincidence. she remembers to call to have someone time her out at the exact time she is scheduled to actually be off. hmm.. not only this but days that she doesn't go in and has people to cover her she still adds on her timesheets saying that she did work those days.. wow.. like I said, this is gone for too long. someone should check into that.
Even though there have been complaints and a meeting about this District Manager he is still with the company. he has fired great managers for reasons of race, person's sex, or sexual orientation under the guise of doing these things for legitimate reasons. Luckily I've been able to hang on to my job, but I'm not sure how long that will be if Payless ShoeSource continues to fail at correcting this. I'm at my whits end and I'm fed up with nothing being done about this seriously disturbed bigot. This company works the piss out of you and doesn't appreciate employees, nor customers. They're only interested in your wallet and keeping the store staffed at bare minimum, which means employees are working hard to meet deadlines and usually working alone. Here's my correspondence with HR that amounted to no help at all.The dm is a complete jerk if your young wooo hooo
Please tell me more about your comment below regarding corp receiving multiple complaints from a customer about the dm being racist. Was this a SM or a dm about? Was this the dm Did the customer formalize the complaint by calling into the call center - do we have any record of the complaint I can view? Any further information regarding this situation would be much appreciated... Thank you,
I worked for Payless for 2 1/2 years- and it got worse and worse each year. They do NOTHING about people stealing-we had repeat customers steal weekly and we could do nothing about it. We were paid horribly and benefits were too expensive to even think about. Not only that, but they screwed up my W2 after I left and were extremely rude when I called the customer service line to see what to do about it. People are expected to work in the store with minimal staff and too many tasks and are way too forceful with "suggesting" to the customer. Don't ever even apply for this minimum wage job with a crappy company that does not care about its employees. There so worried about us employees shoving product on customers who at times can't afford it. Were told we either sell or become a customer our selves. The woman (cough) who is a dm is so gossipy she runs from store to store talking bad about other employees. I've over heard her talking to my manager. payless use to be a wonderful place to work but not now I quit.. I'm not shoving crap on people and getting in their face when they have said no leave me alone. shame on you payless. a zero for you
If I could give zero, I would. This is a horrible, greedy, and disgusting company. This company does NOT care about its customers, it only cares about money and image. Never in my life have I encountered such pure cruelty of both customers and associates. I hope Payless gets its act together soon.
I was hired at a Payless in 2011 as a Sales Associate. I was one, like many, that got to see exactly how Payless was as a company. I was placed in a store that was located inside of a Shopko and I grew to like what I was doing. Not long after starting, I was transfered to one of the busier stores. I was excited because I was told that I was being hired as an Assistant Manager. This was a step up from just a Sales Associate. I was not informed while I was at either stores if I was going to be getting a raise or if I was going to be getting any additional benefits. This was frustrating to me, but I took it as it was, transfered stores, and then started training as an Assistant Manager. I got to know my boss at the new store pretty well and she was amazing. She was alot of the reason why I agreed to transfer to her store. She wasn't like your typical boss. She was better. I worked at the new store for a couple of months when the District Manager came by to do somethings around the store. I was fired that same day for reasons that I still do not understand. I was working the floor like I did everyday and he was back in forth between the floor and having meetings with the Manager. I was fired for not suggesting an accessory to a customer that had come into the store. I was extremely bothered by this because the customer hadn't even begun looking at any shoes. I was only on the first step of the journey with her. I was asking her what she was looking for and then going to suggest a shoe for her to try on. I did all of this, but I didn't offer an accessory. For me, I liked to wait until she had found a shoe that she really liked because otherwise, I was only wasting my time. Apparently, this was wrong. I did love my job and the people that I worked side by side with, but I have a problem with higher up people coming in and making decisions when they don't know how I work and they aren't even present when they make the decisions.
I work in portland and feel so much pressure , when someone calls in a bad survey. We get threatened that we will loose our jobs. My manager told us to find family or friends to call them in. Our district manager wouldnt like that but I'm scared to tell anyone. No one cares really, they say they do. But they don't. there is no one to trust to talk to. you might get blamed for things you didnt do.
I worked for payless for a short time and learned a lot about how they "operate". I was trained by a kid who worked in another store close by and would clock in, leave me in the store alone (my second day!), and go work at the other store. I didn't get paid for the whole month of December (my manager "called" multiple times) but they thought it was okay to give me one hefty check. My manager, like someone else mentioned, also said she was there for hours she wasn't and would fix her time sheet to make it look good. My manager also banned people we "knew" from the store because someone called and complained to corporate about my MANAGERS boyfriend hanging out in the store for hours. She also hated two of the other employees and would bad mouth them and tell me not to associate with them, those two employees were the only ones I worked with. On top of all that she lied about raises and titles. I was given the key to open but never got the title or the raise or TRAINED correctly. After awhile of working there my manager hired her 5 month pregnant COUSIN to work but she couldn't lift shoe boxes because they were to heavy and shoes started disappearing. Ironically my managers boyfriend and her cousins boyfriend had those same boots that were stolen while I was on break. Last but not least managers from other stores would come in and find the need to yell at me for things I did wrong and when I said I was never TRAINED to do that they would tell me it was MY fault. Its in no way my fault and I told them that when I quit. The most interesting (and useful) think I learned while working there is if you bring in a pair of old shoes you wore for 2 years and say you weren't satisfied with them they HAVE to take them and give you something of equal value. Not just shoes though.. same with socks. Thinks twise about treating the sales associates like crap because they CAN, and will, change the prices of shoes. They can also give you discounts if they like you.
Went to the payless store located at Fairview shopping center in Montego Bay jamaica, was totally flabbergasted by the fact that the stores provides a play area for kids while we shop, and no bathroom for them to at least relieve themselves? wow! my daughter is a three year old, we went to the store to get her a pair of sneakers. While we were in the store, she said mommy i want to pee. I ran to the security guard and asked if I could use a bathroom, he directed me to the cashier; I hurried to the counter as by this time my child was rubbing her knees together and writhing with discomfort, the cashier refused to answer me. After approximately 7 seconds the other cashier budged her and she arrogantly stated, " why are you nudging me? you talk to her! oozing out a stinking attitude. Seeing where this is heading, I grabbed my daughter and run outside by this time she had already had urine coming down her legs and screaming. Now is this the policy of a store that claims it caters for kids? Is this the same company that donates millions to charity for kids? I am severely disappointed. I went back into the store after all this and asked for the manager and the same cashier claimed "I am!" Now really if she is the person in charge, it is woefully disgraceful that a brand which feeds off customers as myself and promotes kids as our future should have such a dunce, selfish and cruel person as their rep, it really doesn't spell good for your image and as of such you won't be staying in this country very long. If you continue with such poor service I for one in my job capacity will be very happy to escort you out of this country.
Payless Shoesource #1234, Auburndale, Florida What an awesome experience with Store Manager, Magaly Vargas and Associate, Stephanie Dosher. Experienced, knowledgeable, friendly, enthusiastic and willing to help.
I was in the store at the Vancouver plaza in Vancouver WA last week on wednesday 4/11/12 at around 11am. I walked in the store, the lady who worked there (woman with short brown hair) looked at me and continued talking to another customer, didn't even say "Hi" or smile. So I went to my size and started looking, I know they're supposed to come over and offer to help, but she didn't, she didn't say one thing to me, I felt like it was because I'm African American because she was chatting the whole 10 minutes I was in there with the other customer and didn't bother to come over to see if I needed help. I did need help, but I didn't get any. I would have bought shoes that day if I had gotten help. She also looked at me when I left and said nothing. That is NOT how you treat customers! I went in to the store the next day to talk to the manager. I was horrified to find out that that was the manager who had ignored me. The young lady working (blonde I think) was very nice to me and apologized on the managers behalf and offered to help me find the shoes that I was looking for but I said I wasn't going to shop at Payless anymore and asked for a website where I could make a complaint. She gave me the corporate phone number and said they would be able to give me all the information I needed. I'm just appauled that it was a store manager who ignored me and the associate had to apologize for her. That's not the way stores should be ran. I want an apology from the manager.
