I have been scrolling down and reading these negative comments, and personally, I don't feel any sympathy for any of you. The Algonquin, IL store employees are helpful and friendly and their store is very clean. The prices at Meijer are so much better than Jewel or Dominics. Those of you who complain about customer service are either A. expecting too much out of someone who works in a supermarket. or B. you are placing blame on individuals at store level who cannot control every facet of the retail cycle (i.e. if the Meijer warehouse is not receiving a product from their vendor, how do you expect the store to have it?)I have been frustrated occasionally, while shopping at Meijer, but having worked in a grocery store before, I understand their problems. Perhaps those of you who take your frustration out of Meijer employees should consider what it would be like if the situation were reversed.
the stores do not give or share the friendly or family teachings that fred meijer wanted in his stores. the store managers in ill and managers are in fact nothing more then typical uncaring individuals that do not care for the average shopper or apparently there employees. it sickens me i wont shop there ever again id rather suffer through walmart.
Recently I was fired from Meijer for being a criminal. I was fired for time theft, which I didnt think was possible. The assistant manager took my time theft case to coporate. I was fired soon after and labeled a criminal. It was for 1 hour of time and I didnt get paid for it. So what did I...
I have been a meijer customer for 7 years without a problem. I was shopping for a bed spread and asked a manager if she could help me. Her name was Susan S. When i asked if they had any more of a sale item, she was rude, telling me that if it ain't on the shelf, they don't have it....
Pros -Mostly very good co-workers, and several good managers. -Co-workers are willing to share their knowledge. -Told what the job is, and, once you prove you are good at it, left alone to do it. -Often praised and thanked by management, and thanked by co-workers. -Paid every week, and no 'hold back' period on the first pay. -Can grocery shop after work, saves on gas/time. Cons -Schedule posted at store remains 'subject to change' until 8 PM Saturday, but the new week starts Sunday AM, so employees are told to come in every Sat. night and check the schedule! -Terrible scheduling. Will have 3 or 4 days (unrequested) off in a row, then will be scheduled to work until 10 PM, then 'held over' until midnight, then come back to work at 8 AM. Repeat. -Poor area scheduling. 3 workers in one area, only 1 in a larger area...and whoops! nobody at all in another area, so we all must leave our area, stay over, cover that one at the end of the day. -Hours per week vary wildly. 18 hours one week, 34 the next, then 21 hours, then 30, then 19... -Not told at interview that new hires are mandatory part-time. We have to 'bid' on the full-time slots once we have been there a year! -Several employees bring cell phones in (not allowed) and spend their work time texting. -Called to the front and required to work as Cashier several times each shift, because the store never has enough Cashiers scheduled. Then 'our' work hasn't gotten done, so we (sigh) have to 'stay over'. -Often do not get breaks, because there is 'no time' or 'no one to cover'. -Too many 'bosses' giving more work/orders than one person can actually, physically, complete in a shift. -Only ONE water fountain in the entire store. Working in the front, and desperate for a drink after 5 non-stop hours? It's a 10 minute walk to the water (we are not allowed in the breakroom while on-shift), then 10 minutes back. Get stopped by a few customers needing help, and it can easily take 30 minutes or more. Advice to Senior Management Co-ordinate the work schedule and workers better! Schedule more cashiers, they can always help 'on the floor' during down time! If GM workers come in at 4 PM, work their area (but get called to sub as Cashier 2 times) until 9 PM before finally getting a 15 minute break, then go back and work their area (subbing as Cashier one more time) until 11 PM...then get 'held over' until midnight to help because somebody's area did not get finished (and forget about lunch or a second break), get home/cleaned up/to bed at 1 AM, then back up at 6 AM because they are scheduled to work at 8 AM...and this happens a dozen times a month...how long do you think it will be before they decide to quit?
I have been working at Meijer for a while now and i hate the new uniforms. working outside in khaki pants, or just working in khaki pants in general sucks. they get dirty so easy. they don't even give us coupons for the khaki pants. a blue shirt with a white stripe on the collar and khaki pants makes us look like nerdy private school students. And the managers get to wear black pants with blue dress shirts, how is that fair? Some of us women have heavy periods and working in khaki or white pants is just a bother, worrying about whether ur bleeding straight through your pants or not. I preferred the red shirts and black jeans. they should at least let us wear the black jeans instead of the khaki pants. Its ridiculous. And they spent all that money on trying to make the store look better, yet some of the register's monitors are held together with tape and rubber bands. The registers crash so easy because of bad software and hardware. and then customers get frustrated. Meijer needs to update their registers. one of these days the registers r going to crash and not want to start back up at all, seriously. and the managers like to blame stuff on u that u have no control over, like a customer ripping the receipt paper out too hard and jamming or breaking something on the printer. then the manager yells at u for not being able to fix it. I'm not a technician if its broken, it's broken. the managers at our store are getting worse and worse their expectations are increasing and they are getting more and more negative towards all the employees. They like to get rid of more and more employees and expect us to get just as much work done as we did with more employees. I'll be leaving Meijer soon thank God, the managers are just too abusive. If this continues Meijer is going to lose a lot of employees.
worst place I ever worked. store 222. the store director, Terry looks like a hooker. Our managers yell at us in front of customers. when someone goes on medical leave the managers try to get back at them for it. we'll be on brk n r managers r still yelling at us in front of customers. the managers just get worse and worse. they r constantly cutting hours. They schedule poorly. one day they will have too many workers the next not enough. And some of the customers I get r more immature than a 3 year old. If u want a dead end crappy job meijers is the place to go. they need more people at the deli on the weekends too.
I have had a complaint about the womans restroom for at least 4 mounths. Called 800 number. talked to regional director, talked to manager. I have writen two letters to corporate ofice. All of this to no avail. The restroom has only one working soap dispenser and the hand driers do not work properly. Meijers should provide working restrooms for customers. On one visit the rest room was a terrible mess. Toilet tissue on the floor/feces on side of toilet stall. I'm very dissapointed that I have not received any feed back on this. Why have the 800 number.
Meijer is a good place to shop, but not to work at. I've worked there 4years the first year I liked it but now I feel so uncomfortable working there, sometimes I feel something is not right about the department I work in The taste of me likeing it has left me. My boss sometimes makes me feel uncomfortable like what did I do wrong. Shes very rude sometimes, she has a I don't want to be hear attitude shes very tempermental, a while back she said someone from the corporate office is full of sh..t, this is at the meijer in south bend, Indiana. I just get the feeling I just don't care if I work here anymore
Reported before Christmas to corporate office a photo department problem. Was connected to a rude store manager who did not even identify himself when he answered the phone. Funny, because that was what I wanted to report to corporate was the rudeness of the personnel in the Coldwater, Mi store. Store manager told me he would contact me after investigating. To this day, Jan. 6, 2012 never had heard another word from corporate or the local store. Have not returned to the store, nor do I intend to. They only proved me correct by not following up on the situation. I know "the customer is not always right" but with this ongoing treatment Meijer better start realizing the customer DOES
I work for the Meijer Store on E. 16th Street in Holland, MI and have for almost 18 years. We have some really great people and management who work at our store, and often go the "extra mile" to help guests and their employees, a like. So, it saddens me to hear that some people who have posted, have been very mistreated either as shoppers and/or dissatisfied at the store they work at. I am very sorry to hear , and read their stories, and also very grateful to be working at my store. Our Store Director is very understanding, and very caring about the employees, and also the guests. He is an asset to our store, and promotes a very good morale for everyone. Also, it's not unusual for us, or the management team to always be greeting, asking customers if they are finding everything today, and then taking them to the products. We also say thank you for shopping with us, today. It makes for a very positive shopping experience, there. We are also very vigilent about cleanliness, and it shows. :)

I have worked for meijer for two and a half years now when i first came to this company there were many different opportunities to start a career that would better me in my future. Then things slowly started to change. Now everyones hours are cut down even lower than ever to the point where people are barely making their bills and for what? sales are up higher than ever and your going to cut hours and screw everybody over. when meijer was first created it was based on serving the customer and making a friendly community for it's employees to work. Where did that go? Now all corporate employees and management our very unfriendly and all they are concerned with is making money instead of the customers and treating it's employees with respect. If you want my opinion you guys are driving this company straight into the ground a Fred would be very disappointed and sickened with your changes!
I worked at Meijer for a little over 3 months and I worked very hard. I felt so out of place and it wasn't because I was the only black guy that worked at the Meijer In Charlotte,MI. The manager basically harassed me most of the time I worked, I don't know If he didn't like me or what but I really did not deserve to be treated the way I was. I walked off on the job because after the manager pulled me to the side after the 6th and i really mean the 6th time of the night I was completely fed up with him. he basically told me that i was fired in a couple days from out of nowhere. I really felt like an outcast, mistreated and unwanted. I wouldn't recommend any of my friends to work there.
Meijer is a great place to find just about anything. I like the quality if the merchandise. One HUGE gripe is the checkout process! Seems like I always pick the checkout with the slowest cashier. I get frustrated when I stand in line seemingly forever as I watch other checkout lines flow faster. Here's my solution: Make the checkout line like lines at the bank, or Cedar Point. You come up to the checkouts and form a single line via the roped off aisles. The registers are grouped together. Remember a few years ago when Meijer had the slogan, "You're next in line at Meijer'? So if the 40 registers (of which 10 are open at any given time)are grouped close together, and you come in single file, you'll usually be "next in line!" No more being frustrated because the lane you chose is a slow one.
I shop at meijers at least 1 a week and it is 8 miles from my home everytime they have a sale the sale item is always sold out and they only give you a rain check for six items I am disabled and on a fixed income. Meijers managers never try to solve the problem. I am going to start shopping at walmart at least there when they have items on sale they have them stocked up and there is no limit on the rain checks. I am a very unhappy so to be ex customer of meijers.
I have been shopping at Meijers in McHenry, Il. since it opened. Most of the time I am pleased with the products and service I recieve, however, I get very upset when an item is advertised and is sold out, and this happens very often. A new super Walmart opened just down the road from your store (and closer to my home) that may make people reconsider where to shop. I just tried to sign up for your new M-Perks and was unable to do so as my cell phone carrier is not compatable. It is Sat. Dec. 4 and the day I planned to do my shopping at Meijers as there were several items I was interested in, however, becauce I am unable to get the 10% M-Perk discount,I am very angry and will go elsewhere!!. That program is not fair,to me because of my carrier or anyone who does not have a cell phone. I think the whole idea of M_Perk stinks and will do nothing but make checking out even longer as the store never seens to have enough checkout lanes open anyway!!
any jewish people shop at Meijer? went to get items for Hanukkah only to find out they carry no such items in their seasonal section. I can get a lit up pig with a santa hat that I can proudly display on my front lawn but I can't get a menorah or a dreidel. HOW PATHETIC!!! Jewish people take your coins and spend them elsewhere! Meijer's is anti-Semitic!
I shop at your stores weekly spending about $150-$200 weekly and my daughter shops there as well spending about $100-$125. I need an electric cart when I shop and your stores in Forest Park Ohio and also in Colerain (Stone Creek). There is never enough carts, about 4 to 6 working carts at these stores. I have to wait approx. 45 minutes to shop in which I usually leave and go to other grocery stores. Please put more corts in theses stores. The holiday shopping season is here and the problem is getting worse. Also there is no instant coffee in these store, no folgers or maxwell house why
I was recently caught taking a pouch of squeezable baby food off the shelf while stocking it. I took it to the bathroom being curious and stupid and ate it before leaving it in the trash can. The LP seen me take it off the shelf on the camera and found the empty pouch in the trash and I was put on Suspension. The day after I get texts from co-workers saying they heard what had happened. I had not told anyone from work, but My department manager who was not there the day of the incident had told my entire team that SHE had caught me stealing the baby food, that I had been fired and that I had been doing it for awhile... First, Isn't there a law supporting my privacy? Second, Shouldn't I be notified about being fired before everyone else in the store? and third, She did not know about anything until the next day and it was the first time I had done it, If she suspected me of doing it "for awhile" shouldn't she have mentioned it to someone before I was caught?
