I am so appreciative of everyone's honest comments. There are some really great KOA's, but other it is a NECESSITY to steer very clear away from. PETOSKEY KOA - Amazing. Clean. Kind people/Kind staff. Such a great family vacation. However, DO NOT MAKE RESERVATIONS AT THE SUE SAINT MARIE - CANADIAN SIDE. They are new owners, incredibly rude, terrible manners and NOT WORTH A DIME FROM ANY camper. Please avoid THE SAULT SAINT MARIE KOA CAMPGROUND. YOU WILL NOT ENJOY YOUR VACATION.

When my KOA card expires I am not going to renew because KOA sold or gave my mailing address to and insurance company and now I get Progressive junk mail every month------------thanks a lot

I went to KOA with some friends and their family and it was not a good experience... the lots are very small which isnt horrible and it feels kinda crowded. The thing that bothered us the most was when the owner of the KOA in Muskegon punished my friends little sister, with out any acknowledgement from us by making her stand with her nose against a pole and read a sign for ten minutes for doing a flip on the bouncing mat. The owner was very rude and is always drinking. Also he made us leave when we were mad and addressed him about it. He also was hitting on my best friends wife and asked her how old she was. Very dissatisfied.

My family and I stayed in west Yellowstone koa after I returned from active duty service for a family vacation before I left again. The vacation was great other then the koa cabins in which we stayed at. The chairs were all broken, the door was broken, the main boss was a jerk and very rude to my family. They acted as if they didn't care for our business and as if we were scum. I was very insulted by the way we were treated and will probably never say at koa again. brittani (208)244-8263 Please call if you have any further assistance in knowing the sucky-ness of this facility.

Our camping experience at the Wildwood koa campground was horrible. They do not tell you that the campsites are at the main entrance of the place and right next to a truck stop when you make a reservation. There is no sleeping at these sights with the truck noise close enough to not only hear but also see. Also we paid for water and electric but the water was in the middle and shared by all. Poor is an understatement in our book.

We had inquired about a seasonal rate at the Farmington, NY KOA Campground. The owner called our home phone at the same time my husband's cell phone rang. I answered the home phone and then heard my husband say Oh my Goodness and I knew something was wrong. It was. Our 6 month old grand newphew had died suddenly in Rhode Island. I asked if the owner could call back in a few minutes and he said he was very busy. I calld them back and asked to talk to the owner and was told he was very "Busy" as I knew he would be. I told whoever I was talking to about what had happened and her response was that they had 75 reservations! I was upset! We stayed there last year for three days while our grandchildren were here visiting from Pennsylvania. My husband was working part time and we knew that we would be an hour late for check out time and asked about that every day. There was not a problem because our site had not been rented and it was during the week. On check out day, I went to the office to check in and the owner was there. He was arrogant and told me that I would have to pay an additional 5 dollars which I paid happily. My husband did get back to the site on time. When he started to dump the grey and black water, the sewer backed up. The owner tried to blame my grandson, who number one is very well behaved and number 2 didn't even know what the sewer plug was. This was his first camping experience. We passed that off that he was having a bad day, To say that we are dissapointed is an understatement. We will be hard pressed to stay at another KOA in the future and will let our fellow campers know of the treatment we received at the Farmington, NY KOA. They are much too "Busy" and maybe just maybe we can help by word of mouth to slow them down just a little!

This is to inform all RV owners of my exprience with the North Llano River KOA Resort/Park in Junction, Texas. I had unhooked my tow car and was looking over the town and drove in to the KOA to see if I could find a nice spot to park for the week. As I started to leave to bring my Motorhome back I found the gate chained and padlocked. As I got out of my car some moron and his wife ( I assumed the mgr.) told me in a loud voice tht I must pay him $3.00 for him to unlock the gate. Using my wife's mild mannerisms I paid him the $3.00 and we left. I should have called the Police or Sheriff to have this nut arrested for holding us captive against our will. I have made it a point to tell every friend, travel club and RV travelers to stay clear of this particular RV Park I was so disguted and angered that to this day I will go far out of my way regardless of how fatigued I am before I would ever give any KOA mu business.

We stayed one night at the Charlotte Fort Mills KOA and the campground would more appropriately be named the itinerant workers encampment. Two of the many that stand out in our mind include the 2 large panel trucks that housed "x" number of people on the site next to ours and one windowless trailer across from our site had five compartments with at least 10 people sandwiched into them. Although I hold no grudges against workers of any status, it seems inappropriate to me to overwhelm the site services with the numbers of people housed in these trucks and trailers. The bath house was shabby, toilets out of service and dirty, The tables on the site are in need of paint and repairs. This KOA is not even a poor representation of what KOA is supposed to be and I would respectfully suggest that you evaluate the place and judge for yourself.

I have to say the only reason I gave 1 star is because it wouldn't let me give anything lower. I WILL NEVER stay in a KOA again. Nor will I say anything good about it to anyone who asks. First and foremost the staff was rude always seemed as if you were being a bother to them. I stayed at the KOA on 1400 west & North temple in salt lake city, Ut. The first month we paid rent to move in along with $100.00 depostit, which is perfectly fine. The second month we paid rent again along with our electricity which was $30.00 no problem there, But when we moved out two weeks into our second month they proceeded to tell us that they would keep the entire amount of the rent ( which was expected) but that they were taking our electricity out of our deposit and that was in the amount of &79.00. That is completely impossible being as though we hadn't been there as much that month as we had been in the previous month when our bill was only $30.00. I believe they are all about money and they tried (& succeeded) to squeeze every last little dime they could out of us. I will never go back not because it was alot of money but the fact I felt completly used & "gotten over on" from this company.

The koa in wildwood, fl. Was so poorly kept and not maintained at all. We always make a point of first seeking out the koa's because of the clean and well kept environment. Leaving the morning after our stay we commented on, if we had only made the transition to the 75, we would have had so many wonderful choices, there were RV parks for miles!!! For those of you who want and expect the most out of where they stay... Don't stay in the Wildwood, Fl. KOA :(

After making reservations to stay at the Mystic KOA in CT for August 30, 2010 we arrived and checked in (very unfriendly front desk clerk). We asked for a pull-thru site, which they advertise they have and that the sites are level. We were then escorted to the site and told when to pull up and when to stop, we follow the rules. Proceeded to drop the levelling jacks to set up camp, left front jack over-extended due to not levelled site and got jammed. It cost $196.10 and a day and a half lost of our vacation and lots of aggravation. Once the jack was repaired, KOA clerk "allowed" us to move to another site that was a bit more levelled when we told her we were moving out, that we had enough of a bad experience. I requested to see the manager, complained about the extra expense for the repair, was given an insurance claim form to complete. Soon after I was contacted by the claims adjuster for a statement; after many back & forth calls, we received a letter declining payment. We are KOA Rewards card members and have always enjoyed staying with KOA, but this has caused us to reconsider camping at KOA in the future. First the false advertisement: level pull-thru lots (due to trees, rocks, ruts & short sites--not so!) Unfriendliness of clerks, and then for them to lie to the insurance adjuster as to what happened - it is just not right! STAY AWAY FROM MYSTIC KOA in STONINGTON CT.

We have been traveling across the U.S. for a month and have stayed in several KOA campgrounds. We are not impressed!! Only one was ok and friendly. Beware of the Hagerstown KOA in Williamsport, MD. They celebrate Halloween through the whole month of Oct, and the rules for quiet hours and fires are unenforced. We heard kids running and screaming throughout the camp till well after midnight---one night till 2:00 am. The rules say small fires are allowed, but two fires close to us were huge! The smoke was horrible inside our RV with windows closed. This is bad for an asthma victim, which one of us is. Most KOA have spaces too close together and not as level as they could be, and have dusty gravel and dirt roads that they don't maintain. Many do not have cable and don't trim trees to allow for your satellite to pick up a signal. The Wytheville, VA, KOA has trees that dripped sap on our new car. Beware!!!!

I give a -110 to koa ,i have been told many bad things from family and freinds about koa but just had 1 myself. port huron koa mi stold 10 dollars from my kids.how well, they had a free day for the jumping pillow and my well raised kids payed were told they had to pay 5$ so they did so ,to later find out it was free that day so I went to the office and was told they cannot refund any money so I asked for the manager and was told she is BUSY . so i left my number and site number and asked for her to contact me ,needless to say she never did. I guess koa needs to steal from kids and make an extra dollar. YOU GO KOA ,GOD BLESS YOUR THEIVING HEARTS.

In August, my wife and I camped across America from Detroit, MI to Astoria, OR staying at 8 KOA campgrounds. They were ALL courteous and provided what we needed as well as three advance reservations from their camp to our next evening's site. Twin/Falls/Jerome KOA, Idaho was outstanding and cordial. They were open late and went out of their way to accomodate us. We have beeen KOA members for about ten years and recommend them to our family/friends. [Oregon] My husband and I recently booked the KOA South of Astoria near Fort Stevens. We were on our honeymoon, and one of the nights my husband booked a cabins. (KK4) We arrived and it was after hours, everything was fine until we went to unload items from the car. My husband had to leave for a few moments, and during this time I had 5 Raccoons attack our campsite. I was stoking the fire when I heard a loud growling, looked left and one was aprox. 2 feet from my face. The neighbors to the right of us had their tent over ran by these raccoons, and were forced to sleep in a small car all night, then given a cabin the next night. Another camper also came into office and complained of the same gang of raccoons. The elderly couple near us couldn't let there dog outside as it was small and they said they feared it would get attacked. This is terrifying if you have ever encountered a wild critter. For the next hour my husband tried warding these pests away with the only thing we had available....a fishing pole..we called the "security number" that was posted by the restrooms/showers for after hour help...the person who answered told us to "throw pebbles" and laughed at us. Then we spent another hour with no changed effect. These raccoons were under our cabin and full on fighting on our porch. This made it impossible to enjoy ourselves. The next morning I went into the Main office to advise them of a Raccoon situation, and was greeted with the following. "This is the wild,....what do you expect...raccoons are everywhere.....throw a pebble....there is no way you reached security after hours, the phones weren't on" The Manager mocked me, insulted me, and finally said these words, "Give em' there money back, and get em' outta here. We don't want them here". I am irritated that someone who deals with the public, and is only employed because we (customers)pay for the sites, would be so arrogant and rude to us. Every person I encounter will hear how I will never stay, recommend, or even acknowledge another KOA. This place has horrid customer service. They didn't care about the safety of their campers, they just want the money. Well, I made them hear me. Hopefully others will too. Do your homework for the area you camp, make the owner be responsible for your well being..You're paying for safety. Sadly, it was the state parks that were of higher quality, and they offered less amenities.

Just an update.....I have managed to tell at least 20 people of the crappy service KOA Oregon had to offer them....Word of mouth can either make or break you.. "You're Welcome".

We recently stayed at the KOA in Gallup, NM. We have stayed here once a year for the past few years...ever since it opened and the quality has been in steep decline over those years. We already knew that it was not the most picturesque facility...a gravel rectangle between the highway and the access road which is next to a VERY busy train track (trains every hour at least; if you've ever been to Gallup, you know what I mean!); it's kind of like you're sleeping in the highway median. But we already knew this about the place. It is close to a Denny's restaurant and close to Red Rock Park. Both good things. It also has a large laudromat on the grounds. Here were the problems we had: 1. The women's bathrooms were clean, but the stalls were not restocked with toilet paper every day and several stalls were without paper for the two days we were there. 2. The showers are very private (each is its own enclosed room), but the ventillation is TERRIBLE and they are not kept clean....day-to-day there was hair, overturned floor mats, and holes in the walls where racks to hold your shower supplies had come out and had not been replaced. I doubt that anyone who was truly handicapped could have used the handicapped shower. 3. The owner of the KOA also owns the laundromat. His son is often left in charge at the desk for both facilites. We observed his son using his key to start machines for free so his friends could wash their clothes. Perhaps this is a perk of being an employee or being the owner's son, but we found it rather in-your-face in an area where many people likely struggle to afford washing their clothes. They also took detergent for free from the office where it is for sale to wash their clothes. Again; maybe this is part of the policy there, but I found it strange. 4. We were looking forward to washing dishes in the separate, outdoor sink that is in its own pavillion (very nice, we thought, on earlier visits). This time, there was no water going to that sink and it appeared someone had thrown up in it some time ago and it was never cleaned. Truly disgusting. I should mention that we had the antenna stolen off our camper there when we stayed 2 years ago and always suspected the owner since he hovered over us to make sure we left at exactly 11:00am (we had the camper, but stayed in a camping cabin on that visit). The KOA also has nice outdoor pavillions with tables, but they never turn on the lights at night. Same for the lights on the wall at the entrance to the place. We always like stopping in Gallup (if you go there, you must go to Glenn's bakery!!!!) and love Red Rock park, but I think next time we will look into staying IN Red Rock Park where the campground was very lightly used (no events were going on there at the time) and they have full electric and water with bathrooms (but maybe no showers) at a lower cost. To add to the "fun" of the Gallup KOA, now there is a new hotel right next to it and they were putting up and enormous sign for the Fire Rock Casino between the KOA and the highway and I'm sure this sign will light up the place like daylight when it's finished. After several years, this may have been our last stay at the Gallup, NM KOA.

At the end of May 2010 I started planning my family vacation. I did internet research and made reservations based on the information provided by each campgrounds web site. I have stayed at several KOA campgrounds during the 20 plus years that I have been camping. I have been pleased and assured by the KOA affiliation of these campgrounds. I always believed that there was a reasonable amount of assurance when the campground was affiliated with KOA. I would like to continue this belief in the KOA affiliation with any campground. I am looking foward to the assistance of KOA Corp. in obtaining a refund for unused days at the KOA in Calhoun, Ga. I am nearing the end of my month long vacation and was only disappointed by one campgropund, with the information provided on the internet and what we found when we arrived. This campground was/is the KOA in Calhoun,Ga. I had made3 a reservation for seven days. The KOA had debited my credit card for a one day stay to secure the reservation. We arrived about noon, July 25,2010, I checked in and was required to pay the balance at that time. One of the owners was present when I checked in, with the on duty clerk. The clerk told me where my assigned site was and had a young man take me on a golf cart to look at the site. We returned to the office and I expressed my displeasure with the site. I asked the clerk if anything else in the park would accommodate my 40ft fifth wheel RV. The clerk had the young man take me to another area of the park where I found a site that I believe was better suited for my needs. We returned to the office where I told the clerk that I would prefer site #43. I was told by the owner who was present earlier that I could not get my RV back to the site. I saw a 42ft Motor Hone pulling a horse trailer go right by that site later in the evening. So with no apparent option available I set my RV on the site assigned. My family and I began exploring the park. To begin with the site assigned, I could not fully open my RV awning because of the one and only tree on the site. The sewer hookup for the site next to me was no more than 8ft. from my front door. The fishing pond was green with algae, grass on the bank/edge was at least two feet high, which prohibited my 5 and 8 year old grandsons from getting close enough to fish. We moved on to the Petting Zoo, which consisted of approx. 6 to 8 goats in a fenced area, no other animals and no access to the inside area. There was an eyesore right next to the so called petting zoo, a large trash dumpster surrounded by discarded junk. The next area we went to explore was the Putt Putt Golf. All of the holes were covered in a layer of pine needles which would prevent anyone from playing the game. We then went to the playground which turned out to be adequate, with the exception of a broken swing. My daughter then went to check out the stables because they offered horse back riding. She was horrified to see two of the four horses she saw were amaciated. She was told by the gentleman that was there that there were more hoses in the back. But she saw no evedince of this. I was furnished with a security code for the bathhouse when I checked in, we soon discovered that no code was necessary sincethe doors did not secure properly. This raised a great deal of concern for the safety of my wife, daughter and two grandsons. Despite all that we found that was not as depicted on their web site we were determined to make the best of it. We returned to the RV to rest and the grandchildren went outside to play. They returned a short while later to tell us that they had been chased by the campground Peacocks. I also saw several chickens and roosters that were allowed to roam the campground freely. Chickens are known to carry different diseases, I found this to be a very unhealthy situation. My family and I decided later that evening to leave this campground. I contacted the same owner in the office the next morning and requested a partial refund. I explained some of my concerns to her , but not all, she said that I never requested a different site and I reminded her of the site #43 that I wanted to move to. I offered to pay a penalty of $52.88 and requested a refund of $300.00. The total was 352.88 for the unused portion of my reservation. She at first told me that was a KOA policy that there are no refunds. She tried to tell me that the campgroun was owned by KOA. I explained to her that I understood that it was a KOA affilliation/franchise , but was privately owned. She then told me that she would have to check with her husband about the refund. She told me that she would call me with an answer, she confirmed my cell phone number. As of this date Sept. 9,2010 I have not been contacted by KOA in Calhoun,Ga. I have filed a dispute for the charge with my credit card company and am awaiting a decision. I would also like KOA Corp. to intercede in this matter. The services offered by this KOA campground and the ones depicted on their web site are clearly very very ddifferent.

Cardinal KOA Ontario, Canada Rude does not begin to describe how we were treated. I will never set foot in another KOA unless I get an apology from head office for the way we were treated by the manager at KOA Cardinal in Ontario. He gave us a yell at 11 on the Friday night for the quiet time which we obeyed. He came back at lunchtime on Saturday and spoke to us like we were school children to a point where other campers told him he was unprofessional and not acceptable and that although they were right next to us did not hear us on the Friday night. Saturday came and 4 of us grown men with families sleeping not 10 feet away were sitting around the fire whispering. Out of the shadows he comes at 11:05 and told us he was putting our fire out and came back with a bucket of water. When we said "no you aren't doing that." He said fine I'm calling the cops and accused us of a verbal and physical confrontation. The police came and escorted one of my friends off the site and he had to leave his family there. The man is unstable and incapable of running a family campground. In our group were Federal Civil servants, a teacher, a nurse, a police officer and several high tech workers and all of us over 40 with children on site, what risk did we pose to him? We did nothing and were still treated like criminals. I'm boycotting the KOA from now until I receive word from the KOA head office.
