Farmers should be rated in negative numbers. I have been assisting a relative who has paid for 20 years and was turned down on the only claim they filed. Spread the word, this company does not pay claims. This company needs to be boycotted. Get coverage from another company because with Farmers you're not covered any way.
Why do I have to give even one star? The story I have will sound like a long running joke. In February 2010 I contacted a Farmers agent in San Juan Capistrano, CA for insurance on four properties and my car along with an umbrella policy. After getting quotes and sending my payments in full, the agent came back and said it was more money. I reluctantly paid it. He then left the company (supposedly) and the other agent took over claiming I owed more money. I balked at that. Soon I learned they cancelled one plicy without my knowledge because they sent the bills to my tenant. This agent promised to get it all straitened out by Friday, October 8. I have not heard anything from him on the "straitening out" but he has sent me several bills to pay. What a joke! It is now October 26 and nothing has been done.
Farmers insurance is the absolute worst insurance company i ever used as a provider. If you ever have any accident you have to speak to a farmers employee , then a second party, then a third party and none of them communicate to each other, and they'll probably send you a WRONG CHECK like they did me if your vechicle is deemed a loss. and take their time getting an adjuster out to look at your car so hopefully you bought rentals insurance so your not out $200.00 bucks like i was. I bought both renters and auto insurance through them. My agent, matt schaffer, gave me a reciept stating i had paid auto in full and would recieve the renters insurance bill in the mail. About 3 months go by no bill yet and i recieve a letter stating i owe them $59.00 for covering 2 months and my renters insurance had been cancelled. So to top that off i come to find out that i was double billed by them for my auto insurance and set up to pay monthly. So now they sent me a bill stating if i do not pay them the accrued $114.79 for deciding on monthly billing, when i wasn't they will cancel my service when i paid in full to start with. My agent said he screwed up and was sorry but i have to pay it. Then i was in a collision accident trying to avoid hitting a women going 45mph who suddenly stopped. My car was deemed a loss and I started by negotiating a price with a farmers ajuster who said $4000 then i was sent to a second party to be the middle man between me and their third party who arranges an amount to tell the second party loss dept. He told me i was only recieving $2000. So i had to email them both and told them to work it out and get back to me since their obviously not communicating with each other. A price was arranged and they SENT ME THE WRONG CHECK!!!! I'm going to try to talk to headquarters but i doubt i'll get anywhere so i figured hopefully someone will read this and not give them business. I am getting quotes to switch insurance companys now, not even waiting until my policy is up for renewal.
I had homeowners and auto with Farmers for three years and always had a good relationship with my agent and his staff. That's the reason I couldn't understand for over 4 weeks I tried to speak to my agent on the phone left messages but he would never return my phone calls. Finally I had enough went into the office and cancelled my policies listed customer service as the reason for cancelling and I will have to say I don't think they really cared.
Farmers is a horrible sham. so i CANCELED my insurance at the beginning of July this year and have been billed every month since then. i tried to talk to my "agent" who ended up suddenly stopped working for the company. they have taken money out of my bank account every month for the insurance i no longer have and preceded to still give me insurance on a vehicle i don't own anymore. i talked to the appropriate people after getting in about 20 phone calls and being put on hold for close to a total of 6 hours i finally was able to get the leg work done to back date my billing. it has been close to a 3 months and still have not received the check they said we be in the mail in 5-7 days and every time i try to call someone in charge they are always "in a meeting" or "busy". i am out $978 and have been working for a while now trying to file a lawsuit against the company. PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF THE TIME AND BY INSURANCE FORM SOMEONE ELSE OR A GECKO I DON'T CARE JUST DON'T USE FARMERS. it is amazing that they cant get money back to me but can take money so easily. I have since then had to cancel my bank account and get a new one that is the only way i got them to stop taking money out of my account. WORST KIND OF PEOPLE EVER. I REFUSE TO GIVE UP AND HOPE PEOPLE WONT HAVE TO GO THROUGH WHAT I HAVE BEEN THROUGH.
I just disovered that i was paying for my homeowners insurance above what it should be because they have lised on my policy 3 sky lights , an atrium window and I have none of those they did adjust the policy and cost this wear but asked them for a credit for the past years and said the underwriter said NO ... Well I am entitled to that credit since I have paid for years I have been with Farmers and have my car insurance with them as well for years - So how does a company work for the customer if they do not do right by them - will have to look into changing insurance companies by next year .. How sad that I have been with Farmers for years and they choose not to make it right ...
I would like to add to the comment I made yesterday. It is not fair of me to judge a whole company by my experiences with Farmers' employees in the one state where I live. Yes, the way I have been treated by almost all Farmers' employees I have dealt with has been horrible and totally unacceptable. I have read many comments about Farmers' Insurance online that are negative. I cannot, however, judge the whole company based on my experiences. However, an experience like this with one "branch" of this company in no way makes a good "first impression", so I will not be able to think well of this company unless this experience turns around in some way.
I was rear ended by one of your customers. Long story. I've never seen so much rudeness and unprofessionalism out of one company. I will never, never recommend Farmers' Insurance to anybody -- ever. It seems that there are others out there who are not too happy with you either. I agree -- seems that suspicious things are going on. Hopefully people will catch on.
My vehicle was in an accident where the wheel came off my car and hit another. A friend was driving and was fully covered with AAA insurance. The car that was hit by the tire has Farmers. Farmers never even filed a claim and now my friend is in "Collections" for $10,000. What makes this even stranger is that Farmers contacted her originally and told her that they HAD filed a claim and that it was denied. A complete and total lie. Why they won't even file a claim and expect my friend to pay 10K out of pocket makes no sense. On top of that, Farmers originally sent her a bill for $12,800. And now that amount has mysteriously be reduced by $2,800. I don't belive a word out of the Farmers Rep's mouth. Screw them.
My daughter cancelled insurance on a vehicle but never received a refund on her premium paid, when confronting the agent " I forgot " was the response she received! I now cancelled the policy on my home owneers and called the corporate office and was told I should call back in a week to ten days. For what ? So they can eat more of my refund for insurance I no longer need? What a crock . Lousy company!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Farmers, Thank You so much for opening my eyes to possibly one of the worst companies I have ever had the unfortunate experience of dealing with, not only are you money hungry but it seems all your brokers and agents have the same M.O.to avoid contact. I have been driving for 17 some odd years and I have a clean record. Farmers sold me a policy and stuck me with a woman named Rita Caliogstro, she never called me back and never fixed or updated my policy. I moved and my address never changed nor did she care to update my policy. Needless to say she got fired and Farmers being so amazing as they are, decided to transfer me to Bristol West and up my payments as well as having me talk to under educated assistants. Both whom have spelled words and States names wrong. That personally is disrespectful and shows the intellect of the agent and agency too. I have been a loyal customer and now because of how Farmers does business and the manner in which they choose to treat their customers, I am going elsewhere! How bout State Farm awesome coverage better premiums and an actual broker that you know by name , oh and an assistant that knows what the hell is going on and can be as good as the broker if not better! Love it. 70.00 bucks a month for years to come! Eat it Farmers. I hope your company fails or opens there eyes to the bad reps making you look bad. I say 'you'as in corporate! Get it together. Solomon
My agent is Ken Wasa out of Plymouth Michigan. A few days before my monthly insurance was due I cancelled my insurance because I got a better rate. Now they have sent me to collections for $54.32. I have talked with them several times to ask them why they are billing me for $54.32. My auto insurance was paid up to date and I cancelled prior to the next pymt due date. So why am I being billed? My monthly rate was always changing like the weather which I never experienced with no other company. When asking Ken Wasa why the rates change he said "it was'nt him, it was corporate office making the changes". His secretary also told me in a very rude manner she wanted me to send her my new policy info which is private information and falls under the Patroit Act. Now they have sent me to collections. I will never go with State Farm ever again nor will I recommend any body to State Farm after my experience. I think there is alot of fraud going on. SA Colorado
I was the victim in an accident here in Missoula, Montana. I was rearended by a Farmers Insurance Carrier. I AM VERY UPSET AT THE COMPANY FARMERS HAS BECOME!!! You used to be a stand up company that was fair to everybody in an accident. I had a 1984 Toyota Pickup that I was restoring. It was in my family for 20 years. When I was rearended, he totaled my truck by causeing $1971 in damage. Your insurance company said my truck wasn't worth that much so they considered it a total loss and cut me a small check. I showed him my receipts where I had put over $2,000 into my truck within the last 8 months in order to restore it. That only got me another $285. I should be reimbursed the total amount it would cost me to fix my truck since a replacement was not available. It isn't your companies place to afix a small value on a truck that I was restoring because it was good on gas and insurance. Isn't there any Farmers Insurance Policy that would allow for unusual circumstances such as mine? My adjuster, Matthew Lynch, would rather I take my business (I carry Bristol West and Farmers too) elsewhere rather than pay me the $1000 that I put into my truck and should not have to lose. I was the victim in this accident. Why should I lose $1,000 because I was rearended? That $1,000 would be reimbursed to Farmers within two years by my insurance premiums alone. Now, Because Farmers is not the fair company that it used to be, I will be looking for different carriers for my renters and car insurance. I will also be taking my friends and family with me unless somebody starts treating me fair. I don't think that is too much to ask. I have already filed a complaint with the insurance commissioner here in Montana. I would love to call him and have him pull this complaint. Will you please help me?
Please delete my home telephone number from your files do NOT under any circumstances call that number again I received a call tonight past 800 pm this evening from one of your local divisions requesting me to come in and meet with my agent so it is very obvious to me that you folks cannot RESPECT the use of my personal number in an appropriate and proper manner this is a responsibility entrusted to you First I am on the do not call registry I would suggest your folks find out what that it purchase a copy and RESPECT those of us who have to renew our numbers on there each year secondly what business calls past 8PM obviously one who has never consulted an etiquette book thirdly I have always been told that Farmers is the most expensive insurance and Ive never bothered to check other rates etc that is my fault for being lazy but thank you this has spurred me on Wow what a great way to spoil my evening but hey you got me up and on the computer comparing quotes so for that I sincerely thank you I have been covered by Farmers since I was 16 and am now 44
i will never refer anyone else to farmers my agent is outstanding but the company doesnt put their clients first then the take their time about processing your claim i hate farmers and will be going with nation wide....
I am writing in behalf of both Farmer's and, in particular, my agent, Douglas Ray (San Diego, CA). Doug has basically taken care of all my insurance needs for many, many years. He has always responded with alacrity, compassion, and concern. Most of us live our lives without (mercifully) needing to make claims. This had been the experience of essentially my entire adult life. Over the last two years, however, I have been in two car accidents. (Even I cannot believe this). Farmer's took exceedingly good care of me. Doug, especially, worked behind the scenes, negotiated with collision repair services in my behalf, set me up with rental cars, and basically held my emotional hand through these two traumas. Anyone above who has not experienced a good experience with his/her agent simply does not have the best agent! Farmer's is wonderful, in the hands of a competent and qualified and compassionate agent. Douglas Ray Insurance Agency is one to look for in this regard. I promise. In addition to handling my two accidents, Doug has worked with me to insure my house, to insure my daughter as a new driver, to insure rentals, to set up umbrella policies. I am quite serious when I say that he is simply the very best. If you have not had the most responsive agent, don't give up on Farmer's. Call Douglas Ray Insurance Agency.
Hopefully the CEO of Farmers gets this message. I was a loyal customer for 15 years in the late 80's and 90s with the Audie wright agency in Fort Worth Texas. All my business and personal policy's were handled by Audie Wright. That is the only reason I have even considered staying with Farmers after my New Agent did what he did to me the other day. I hope he loses his agents license for what he did. I sell used cars now and have refered 3 new customers to my agent David Offutt in Forth Worth Texas 817-708-9000. We got in a disagreement. He told me he would give me a referral fee for every customer that I brought to him. He said it was illegal to pay me but he sends his customer gift cards to customers that send referrals instead, that is legal. We agreed to $50.00 a car. I referred someone and he sent me a $10.00 gift card. I sent him an e-mail thanking him but told him we agreed to $50.00 a car. I guess he didn't like that I e-mailed him about it, he told me to call him instead but I e-mail him again. He denied our conversation. Then two days later I referred him another customer and he called me and told me that I should find a closer agent because he was a businessman and no longer wanted to carry car policy's. He was losing money selling auto policy's. I called my local agent in Frisco Texas and he Laughed at first, but could not believe that he told me that. Not only that I had to relocate my three referral over to the new agent because he no longer wants to handle auto policy's because he is losing money doing it. Also every time I would fax him he told me he never got it. Everyone else always has gotten my faxes accept him. Also several times he said he would call me back right away just to be called back 4 hours later or the next day. I'm sorry but this agent shouldn't be representing Farmers telling customers that he doesn't want they're business because auto policys aren't worth his time. That is his job/ Maybe he needs a new job. He is no business man and has no business representing Farmers insurance.
I am ASTOUNDED by what just happened to my in-laws (they are in their 80's)! They have had Farmer's Insurance for 60 (YES, SIXTY!) years without ANY claims--(now THAT is amazing). A grouse flew into their window and broke it last week and they were told, "its NOT covered"!! Now THERE'S an insurance company thats there for their cliens, HUH???!! I give Best rating for excellent service. However, I am writing to you because I don't understand the decision made regarding the flood to my condo unit. One yr. ago May 31st, the renter that lives above me (Katie Plomgren) caused a flood in my unit. She was cleaning the bathroom floor and noticed the toilet valve was loose, borrowed a wrench, from a neighbor, to tighten the valve and instead of tightening, she broke it causing the flood. I received a letter (4-23-2010) from Joy Jackson, claims analyst, stating: The Arbitration decison was returned with no award. I find this to be so wrong! Famers Ins should not have to pay the expense Katie caused. Am I wrong or does the system just not care whose responsible? I am just so confused about the ending result. Please reply and let me know why she isn't responsible for her damage? I have the most respect for Farmers and I am very happy with the quick response I received. Thank you for all you do!
I STRONGLY, STRONGLY encourage you that if you are considering buying Home Owners insurance from this company to LOOK ELSEWHERE. You will find out as many have notated here that Farmers does NOT HONOR there commitment to customers. They are great at taking your money, but their (lack of) service is absolutely deplorable. I am embattled right now with them over a roof claim (my ceiling leaks water when it rains) that they refuse to honor, claiming that my roof is "sound", and Good News! It isn't the Roof that's causing the leak! I plan to file a formal complaints with the following agencies: Better, Business Bureau, The Texas State Board of Insurance, The Texas State Attorney General's Office, and Consumer Advocate Groups (whoever will listen) and will be placing a notation on Facebook to dissuade anyone from buying insurance from this company. NEVER AGAIN.. will I ever recommend this company to others. To the many here who have given this company 1 star and have your own horror story... my heart felt consideration for your trouble.. best of luck to you.
