I went to the Dollar General store #12031 tonight around 8:55 p.m. I know they close at 9:00 p.m. but was just going in and out for one thing. As I walked in the lady that worked there YELLED at me "WE CLOSE IN FIVE MINUTES". I thought, okay..I already know that you don't have to yell. I was in the back of the store looking for what I needed and I heard her yell again "FOUR MINUTES". I was DISGUSTED at this and took my precious time looking for what I needed. After working as an employee in retail for some years, I could NEVER imagine yelling at someone from the front of store that we will close in FOUR MINUTES. I know it may have been annoying that I walked in 5 minutes before closing, but I knew what I wanted and it was going to take me two minutes to go grab it and pay. I felt like it was a countdown, and she was rushing me to get what I needed. This was HORRIBLY unprofessional and I will never be returning to this store again, unless I need something last minute! Poor, POOR service..but as I can see from reading above that this is nothing new to DG stores all around the country. I would NEVER recommend anyone to go to DG. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE service. I am FURIOUS and will be calling corporate tomorrow morning.
today(10/26/11), i had to go to the dollar general closest to my house to get cat food and some female stuff. upon entering the store, i saw the manager (Heidi). she and the woman that likes to tell my son how to wear his hair were standing in the aisle talking. not stocking or fronting shelves, they were leaned up on the shelves talking. i got what i needed and headed for the register. Heidi was very polite to the young man in front of me. all smiles and kind of laughing. when she rang me up, no smile, no conversation, no have a nice day or even a thank you. this is the same woman i had issues with last thursday over writing a check for my mother in law. which i have done for 4 yrs, without any problems. last week, she made it a problem and personal. i've already called corporate once and i'm still waiting to hear from the dm. looks like i am calling again. why won't you as a corporation really, i mean really, hire people that want to make sure that the customer has a enjoyable experience? the employees need to remember that without us, they wouldn't have a paycheck. store #04237 in brookwood,al. on hwy 216. I never thought I would be writing Dollar General again -- within just a few months! I am writing in behalf of a disabled friend who was told by a DG executive to "not come back to the store!" I could not believe what I was told. The customer had a similar problem at our DG Store in Crescent, Oklahoma - just a few months ago, and I thought the DG Corporate Representative had tried to correct this problem! My friend is disabled, about 70'ish, uses an electric wheelchair at home, gets into the car, goes where she needs to go, has a manual wheelchair in her trunk but is unable to get it out without help. So she pulls up to a DG Store, phones the store, or communicates with them in some way -- asking for SOME customer Assistance!! She asks for specific products to be brought to her in her car, (if the staff members are available to do so), and she pays for the product in full. She is always very kind to the store personnel, and she asks for assistance because she cannot walk long distances without a wheelchair. On Oct 19th, she went to one of your DG stores at the corner of Highway 74 and Edmond Road, North Oklahoma City. She had received customer assistance at this same store previously, so she thought it would be a good place to go to. She often makes large purchases at DG. The lady manager was VERY NICE and helpful to her. No other customers were in the store... she rec'd her purchases without any problems, but then the Manager's BOSS appeared at the store, found out what was going on, and he (Johnny) told the customer that she would be helped today, but then to NEVER COME BACK AGAIN! My disabled friend said the whole transaction took only a few minutes. She really felt badly about the experience. Some disabled folks try their best NOT to be a burden to other people. I don't think people are aware... Oklahoma has FRIENDLY people, we smile at each other and we treat strangers with kindness. What is going on with Dollar General! Is GREED more important than being friendly to customers? Is selling junk FROM CHINA more important than treating customer with human kindness. I am really getting fed up... and I don't enjoy writing letters and complaining about customer assistance which appears to be NON-EXISTENT at Dollar General Stores. The Dollar General Store forgot to give me on of my bags as I was exiting the store. I did have my receipt so I called the store when I returned home. I was advised the store had my item that was not given to me, however if I did not come to the store by the end of the day it would be put back on the shelf. Very bad customer service. I was also hung up on.
I have been a long time customer of Dollar General until TODAY, when i stopped at the store in White Bluff, TN to buy some halloween candy. When i got home, I noticed that I had been charged twice for one $6 bag of candy. I have a local store much closer, so after calling the WB store to tell them their mistake, I went to my local store to get my $6 & I even told them to call the WB store to confirm what happened, but they REFUSED to give it to me & said if I wanted my $$, I'd have to go all the way back to the WB store. This was not my mistake, but I had to drive all the way back & probably spent the $6 I went back for in gas. WARNING -If you shop there, better check your ticket BEFORE you leave THAT store! You cannot get other stores to correct mistakes, even though they are ALL Dollar General! GO FIGURE THAT ONE!!! I am furious & I am through shopping at any Dollar General anywhere!
I was at store 09716 today to rent a rug dr carpet cleaner.Your employees,May and Brandi couldn't have been more rude.Sloppy poor dress,horrible attitutudes,and one of them cannot speak much of the english language.Why you would employ such disrespectful, disgruntled acting people is beyond imagination.I stop there three to four times weekly to pick things up on my way home.I will be going a little farther up the road to the Family DOLLAR from now on as to no longer wish to support such actions as I encountered today.
Yesterday after work I decide to stop by to do some shopping at a local dollar general store located in Fayetteville NC. I walk into the store to get a cart I looked around to see if I could find a Empty cart because the stuff I was going to buy couldn't fit into a basket.I walked up to an employee and ask were are the carts at.Her respones was there might be some outside look around the store for one and I did to find two carts used for there stuff.She also said they really can't keep carts because people keep stealing them.My problem is I don't have anything to do with that about people stealing the carts..I'm a customer just want to buy somethings for my house.Why should I have to look around for a cart in the store are go outside.There were three employee's on duty the looks of things there lazy the store need to be clean alot more better then it is....not once do you think she stopped to help me look for one hell no...She stopped to talk to some of her friends are people she just met came to the checkout line just to check them out and no one else..but remind you there were other people in line beside myself..I want be shopping at this store no time soon...They need to get there act together better customer services stop looking at customers like you want to beat them up because you have a problem...If you don't like your job leave no one is asking you to stay there.There are other people who would like to have a job that are still loooking for jobs.
I again have visited the store#12012 in Saluda,N.C.under manger Beverly Owenby. I have NEVER in my life seen anybody who would deliberately humiliate an employee in public. In such a MEAN and most UNGRATEFUL way and LAUGH about it in front of this woman and all of the customers in the store as well! This is uncalled for and should be stopped! Every since Beverly Owenby has taken over as manager of this store she has been rude to alot of us customers and and you have lost alot of your customer already due to her rudeness and the way she treats her employees and customers. Nobody likes to be greeted rudely or followed and watched every move they make and told I have to make sure you are not taking anything from the store, every time you enter this store. Some of these people are farmers and so they are in overall and coveralls so does that make them thieves? When did it become a rule that unless you are dressed accordingly then you will be watched and followed for you will be considered a thief!?? Anybody who will tell her employee that she is FAT, UNHEALTHY, and INCAPABLE to perform her duties 100%,and she needs to step it up or be DISMISSED, is not management material and she should be DISMISSED not the woman!! As long as I have been shopping at this store not once have I seen this woman been slack at her job and she has the most sweetest personality of anybody there. She is always willing to help and not once have I ever heard a complaint or harsh word from her even during the time that Beverly Owenby was humiliating this woman in public! Just yesterday I heard her tell this woman that as soon as she gets off light duty due to an accident she had at work which this employee could have prevented if not have been for her weight factor that she had best pick it up or she will be fired! That she has been written up twice on charges that she has the right to charge her with and she WILL Find MORE WAYS TO FIRE her if need be. I being concerned about her accident asked another employee and was told that she fell when her foot got tangled in a cord of one of the scanners that was left hanging down in the other register from the previous cashier. So due to the previous cashier neglect this woman is now not only being HUMILIATED for her weight and health condition but being BULLIED and BLAMED for an accident that was NOT her fault. As far as I am concerned if Dollar General hires only people who HUMILIATES, LAUGHS, BULLIES, THREATENS, their employees and customers then Beverly Owenby is their #1 Manager of the year.. Congratulations Dollar General!!!! I FOR ONE WILL NEVER SHOP AT DOLLAR GENERAL EVER AGAIN AND I HOPE BEVERLY OWENBY GETS WHAT SHE DESERVES!
I am making a formal complaint against the Dollar General in Warren, Tx. I am really tired of the stores managers attitude on several occasions she has been very rude to me. I use to shop there alot but no I would rather pay a few more dollars and go next door to the family dollar its much more friendlier and definietly cleaner.
for the past 4 yrs, i have taken care of my mother in law. this includes shopping for her, getting her to and from drs and so on. on oct 21,2011 i went into the dollar general on hwy 216 in brookwood,al. this store is the closest to me. i've been a customer there for yrs. i went in and got the 5 little items that she needed. when i got to the register, as ususal, there wasn't anyone there. i waited and waited. finally, the manager(a dike gone wrong) comes out and rings me up. when i began to write the check, she asked if that was my check or my mother in laws. i told her the latter. she says that she can't take that check. WHAT THE HELL???? i have been writing her checks there for 4 yrs. i explained this to the manager. she refused to help me in any way. i had to go and get my mother in law and bring her to the store. it's not easy for her to get around. she has osteoarthritis and osteoporosis in her back and knees. it's difficult for her to walk around and the cold weather doesn't help. this time a different girl rang us up, but the manager was at the other register running her damn mouth about policy and a bunch of bullshit. my mother in law told her she didn't understand why she gave me such a hard time. i said it's because certain ppl like to give other ppl a hard time. the bitch threatened to have me banned from the store. oh, did i mention that the day before this i went there for mother in law and they took her check no problem!!!!!!!!!!! just once i wish that the hiring forces behind dollar general would hire ppl who don't make up the rules as they go. and also, 4 yrs ago when i started caring for her we went to the different stores and pharmacy and drs offices to let them know that i would be doing this for now on due to her health and mental health status. now i sit and wait for the dm to call me back. he better hurry. so, if u live in tuscaloosa county al or ur going to visit, don't go into the store on hwy 216 in brookwood.
I went to your store at 225 W. Brady Dr. Hidalgo, Tx (956) 843-8715. I went shopping during my Lunchtime to have something to eat and when I was leaving your manager for the store (Ella) confronted me of stealing. She assumed I was doing it and in a rude way she asked me in front of one of your personel and a customer. do you know how embrassed I was that I went back to work and didn't have my lunch. Are they trained on how to handle these types of issues or do they just approach in whatever manner they feel its approprated to do so. I am seeking legal advice into this matter because I was so shamed by your co-worker. This issue needs to be addressed as soon as possible before she ends up doing more damaged to other costumers. thank You
i have loved dollar general but the the one in odenville al have the biggest dumb azz workers, i ask about three different employees about the prices in the clearance section and they couldnt answer me , the things there were higher than the things on the shelves and ann told me i should take each idem i was intersted in to the front of the store to be priced!i ask her should i keep on going up there when you could easily put a price on them here,she told me to contact corparate if i wanted to know the prices and why they are not priced in the store,isnt that thier job in the store to know this stuff,hello!!! i was very disappointed at their lack of knowledge,,
I totally agree with everyones comments on here.Only this time its the district managers and regional managers. They are not family oriented at all nor do they care for there employees health. I have a girl friend that manages a DG store in northern Arizona. She opens and closes the store on a daily bases. She has four kids that she hardly sees cause she goes in at 6am and doesnt get home till around 10pm and the DM & RM will not get another manager in there to help her out. She is very understaffed and overworked. Also she is worried she might get fired for being sick and left work early. She left with a well qualified employee to close but since he hadnt passed certain test nor had he got his drug test back he is not suppose to close the store. I guess they just want to get everybody sick in the community that comes in the store. Guess thats company policy "work when ur sick so customers catch it and they can buy our products." Really syarting to dispise Dollar genral stores and there DMs and company.
I was an employee for three years at the store in Townsend. I loved my job (actually still do) I started out as a two day a week stocker and moved up to the asst mgr position, held that for two and a half years. The customers are what made working on a daily basis tolerable. However the manangement that I went thru almost made the job unbearable. I had gone thru Four managers, the first three of which lied and tried to set me up to be fired. The third one went so far to taking money out of my till after I had counted, trying to make me look like a thief. I finally caught HER on video, stealing money out of a cashier's till after cashier had counted and her back was turned. I contacted the DM immediately about it. We only had Seven days to get a copy of the video, the DM knew this, but made excuses of why he couldnt come. Turned out he didnt get a copy of the video, so she was able to "resign". It had gotten so bad with her harrassment towards me I filed an official complaint against her, which turned out I was the one under investigation??? I shouldnt have ever been under investigation when I was the who filed the complaint. Many times I begged for help with the stress from all of this, many times I was left to just deal with it. The stress affected my personal life, and my overall performance of my job I love. Up to three weeks before I was fired, I had called my Dm and BEGGED for help, again, my plea for help went unnoticed. For three years my DM had no problem calling me and ASKING me to help him out with corporate visits, inventories, helping run a store for a manager who had to leave for a week (he ALWAYS called me on my cell, have phone records as proof). The last time I went to help a store for a mgr, I was TOLD to go, I wasnt asked. When I attempted to call the manager to see what she wanted done while she was gone, she didnt return my call, instead ten minutes later one of her key holders returned my call and told me "everything is ready for me". The next day I go to that store (0962) I am handed an envelope with the mgr's cashier number, her pswd, the combinations to the safes, and the alarm codes with HER set of keys. Ok I run the store, never thought anything of it (until later), all went fine, employees did as they knew what needed to be done. The day my Dm comes in to fire me, just that morning I had FINALLY talked with someone to set up counciling for all the stress I was going thru (the newest manager was right along with the harassment, but telling me she wanted to get rid of the troublemakers and had no problem with me) The Dm and a guy from Loss Prevention come in to "talk to me". I was accused of running on another's number, the store I was TOLD to go to kept being brought up, I told them I was told to do as I did, they said mgr didnt tell me, my come back was if I wasnt supposed to do that way, then why did I have her cashier number and HOW did I get her password?? ONLY she knows her password! He had copies of video on cd on me, he hadnt EVER done that before, so I was set up by DM and that store mgr. It was brought up about me having my cell phone. Well I have always had my cell phone on me since the day I started at DG. I used my cell for many reasons, not personal calls. If you are a customer coming in looking for something I didnt have in store, Id call other stores asking if they had to save you time looking for what you needed. I also used my phone for photo documentation for how the newest store mgr and the lead were leaving the store for me when I came in to work a night shift (rolltainers in almost every isle, totes stacked up along party section and HBR, trash all over the floors, store in a mess) I also was staying in touch with my adopted mom who was very very ill ( I was told by mgr, she wasnt my family since wasnt my blood relation, and the Dm agreed to that) Another reason I kept phone on me is because that is the way the Dm ALWAYS contacted me, always!! Even when I was at the store and he knew I was in store, he would still call my cell phone to ASK me to help him out with something. Everything with DM was fine until I told him I was planning on transfering west to help open new stores. I was finally excited about my job, it was something new to me and a challenge. Before that I hadnt ever been written up, well until I told DM, next thing I know, write ups come out of the wood work!! Write ups I didnt even know about were presented to me the day he was firing me, and he expected me to sign. One write up was even on a day I wasnt at work, I was at the races! I of course did not sign them. The two I did sign, he didnt even have. One write up was for recovery, I apologized for that because I chose a few other things that were more important to take care of for that immediate time, but when I was off for two days, I came back to work, store was still NOT recovered, and things were left as they were the last day I had worked, and store looked even worse, and no one was written up for ..no recovery. I feel the DM did all he could to prevent me from moving on with my career for the company. He set me up, and used things against me he never had a problem with for three years I was there. I do have phone records if needed to present for when he did call me on cell while I was at work. I have recently found out im now on the non-rehire list, I am very upset about this. I dont understand why I would be put on that when theives who were fired are not on there. I think I am still in shock to be put on a non-rehire for something I was one told to do, and two that was always known. A "policy violation" doesnt justify a non-rehire listing. I'd like to talk to someone who will overturn this. I'd like to get back with a company I loved working for, loved the job. I still want to transfer, and keep my career with the company going. I feel this DM took it very personally by going against me and doing all he could to make my record with the company look bad, when I hadnt ever had anything bad in my file the previous three years. This way I couldnt transfer. It's now four weeks later and I still havent heard back from dispute, so I feel that hopefully Someone will read this, and will actually help me get this matter straightened out. I know a lot of the customers are VERY VERY UPSET about my firing, they have contacted customer relations about this (I know of ten so far). Some have called and some have written in, some have emailed. The saddest part is all their efforts to let someone know what type of employee I really am, will all go back to the person who set me up..the DM. Instead of going to someone who it will really matter. My contact information I am sure is still on file, and I am hoping that Someone does really care about keeping Good employees and will contact me back to help get this matter straightened out. I shop at the Dollar General in Eight Mile, Alabama all the time. Although I have encountered several managers that did not know what the heck they were doing, I never encounter one such as Patty Miller. She is the biggest idiot ever. She talks to people as if they are suppose to be inferior to her, but guess what Patty when you talk to people in the public, at least make them think you have an education and not a rejected GED. SHe talks to other shoppers about previous employers not knowing if they are related or friends. Angie, by the way was a good manger before you stabbed her in the back. Eight Mile Dollar General, you really need a makeover.
Cashier had trouble completing the transaction. I swiped the card several times and it would not accept the card. He tried to swipe the card with a plastic bag 2 times with no success. A customer behind me stated "Are you having trouble with the machine?" The cashier replied " Aww...its only with these Welfare cards. Every other card swipes." I didn't want to cause a scene because I was very embarrassed along with my son. I expect to be treated with respect whether I use my Visa card or an EBT card. If your company accepts the card then the machines need to function properly for BOTH. I was singled out due to my employment status and the need to utilize my tax dollars that I contributed to the "WELFARE" system. This cashier was at you store located on Fransktown Road Pittsburgh, Pa 15235 #7878. The cashier is an older African American man with moles on his face and lips. I would greatly appreciate it if he is reprimanded and understands the importance of "GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE."
I have a local Dollar General Store near my home in Searcy, Arkansas. There is also another in another part of town. I love the merchandise, and want to continue shopping at a Dollar General Store, but IT WILL NOT BE THE ONE OFF PLEASURE STREET. There is dropped merchandise ALL OVER the store.. merchandise that should be on the shelves. I purposefully walked down each and every isle, and each one looked like a tornado had hit it...It is disgraceful, the manner that this store is kept. As a general rule there are at least one employee outside smoking, and the parking lot has cigarettes butts, and paper all over it also... Someone of attority should visit and look at the store...I will in the future go to the other store, even tho it is further away.. By the way, this is not "just a bad day".. This has been the norm for months and months.
I went into the local Dollar General which, may I add, I despise going into but I just wanted to give the store another chance. Upon walking in I wasn't greeted by the cashier as soon as I walked in. As I browsed the store I noticed that the store didn't have everythingI was looking for (sugar!!) but I continued to gather other items that I just wanted (NOT NEEDED). I had a few coupons for some of the items but like last shopping trip I was hesitant about using them. The cashier asked if I was doing ok I responded I'd be better if all these coupons go through. She replied Well we'll just see about that. She scanned all of my items and I gave her the coupons. She reviewed them and scanned 2 of them and said the last one she can't scan because it's similar to first coupon. I asked if she would attempt to scan it and she replied "I don't have to because I know it won't go through." She handed me the coupon back. The unscanned coupon was greater than one already scanned so I requested that she scan the greater coupon and take out the lesser. She huffed with an attitude and said "Now I have to void all of this and rescan the entire transaction!" I was extremely MAD and told her I wil never shop there again to just go ahead so I would no longer be an inconvenience to her. She just shifted her shoulders in a "I don't care" kind of way. NEVER WILL I STEP FOOT IN ANOTHER DOLLAR GENERAL IN MY LIFE. NEITHER WILL MY FAMILY!! Location is 100 GA HWY 49 S Byron Ga. 31008. The cashiers name was Gail. Her attitude needs to be that of someone in customer service in case she didn't know.
I came into the toms river nj location for a job interview, the manager said I was a great fit, so I took the computer test, and passed! Jenny immediately offered me a position and said that I would be on the schedule for this weekend. I called the store for the last 3 days when the regional manager, Dan, tells me "jenny had no right to hire you or promise you employment, and that I really shouldn't count on being hired, and to stop calling". I was and still am devastated, I'm a single mom and was so happy and uplifted when I was handed my employee handbook, now I'm completely devastated and infuriated with the company. I was going to use my first paycheck to pay for my sons birthday gifts, now, he will only get a cake. Thank you dollar general, I really appreciate the unprofessionalism that I witnessed at your toms river nj location.
I returned to Dollar General after a receipt my husband got reflected a 30 cent deposit on each Vitamin water sale, $1.50 total. The bottle deposit is only 5 cents. Anyway the manager was busy and not very friendly, but the associate Shell(y) was very helpful and friendly. If I go back there it will be because Shell was very very pleasant. The manager appeared bothered and not friendly. I work in customer service everyday and know customers can be pests but, when a customer has a legitamate complaint (like being charged too much) an associate should listen and not make them feel like they are doing something wrong like I felt. Clearly some people are not meant to deal with customers. The store is in Gouverneur NY in direct competition with Family Dollar on the other end of town. Do you really want a manager scaring off the potential return customers and chasing them into the other store?Shell or Shelly should be a manager as she knew how to treat a customer!
