To the DG worker that posted: I'm being rushed through checkout and when I DO find things missing or priced wrong it will be the clerk that gets upset for holding up the line when asked for a product NOT put into the bag or a price corrected. That is the employees JOB to do this NOT for me to monitor their job and supervise them and make sure they do it. Just as what was posted earlier in that the Dollar General employee typically blames customers for their sub-par work ethics as you have done. Your posted comment is typical of a Dollar General employee. Degrading terminology and calling customers retards and I doubt you graduated from high school even. You have proven everyone's valid point that employees of DG's need to start respecting customers even if they don't respect themselves. I don't believe all DG's are this way but most are this way especially the one at Montour Falls, NY. I'm another one that finds this store a total joke when I used to go there. Constant tension between the employees and customers shopping there are an after thought. They need stricter hiring process's and hire people that won't cry its the customers fault all the time and take responsibility for their own below average work ethics.
i live in granite shoals tx..i was in the dg shopping for my kids school supplies. my husbands aunt works there..we were all togther shopping and the hole time she followed us arround cussing and sayin inapropreit thangs to my husband infront of my childrien....i was verry upset with her as a asistant manager myself.. i know how important coustomor service is and treating them with respect wether or not you have issues...while we were leaving the store she proceded to call the cops and say my husband was stealling a $4.50 markers..this is obserd..we let it go.. 3 days later later while we were metting my husbands paroll officer he informed us the the police dp called his officer and told him that he was stelling..this could cost him prisson time..we have money 3 years of prossin time is not worth $4.50....then as if this could not get any more redicuals 2 days later we get a visit from the pd..she has now filled a crimanl charges on both of us...this is herrasment please dont ignor my letter...i do not appreiate this at all..she doese not need to be a asistant manger if that is how she is going to be....contact me and we could get more details..thank you
I will say this about Dollar General. The customer isnt always right but as far as customer service is concerned, you are NEVER suppose to put the blame on them and never let them know that you think they are wrong. Even if you cant fix their problem. You still apologize for their trouble, be friendly, and act interested. The problem is that most people hate dealing with customers especially complaints but most companies have rules and regulations regarding what to do and how to treat irate customers. Dollar General does not. I dont think they care to fix issues in customer service. If they did these would be isolated issues. They arent. Every Dollar General I have ever been in has this problem. It's like most (not all) of the people working there dont know how to act. These people usually dont graduate, have no training, and no skills so they get a min wage job. Which is honorable and once again Im not talking about all employees. The thing is unlike other minimum wage jobs, Dollar General has ok benefits so to a lower income family, it is great. So they get away with paying min wage and no one ever leaving. They could put their foot down and clean house and the employees would wake up and see they are in danger of losing their job and straighten their acts up. I know from my experience every Dollar General I have been in at one hour before closing, the employees seem to be rushing you out the door which is highly unprofessional. I even had a manager tell me 15 minutes until closing that the lights would go off at 8 and there was nothing she could do about it. The registers would shut off. I know this is a lie and very wrong. My question is:Is this just a dumb-witted employee who risked her job because she wanted to go home or is this actually something Dollar General tells their employees to do. That they have to be out of there by 8? Maybe they do. Maybe they are so afraid of paying someone an extra dime that they do hurry customers out the door. Ive had at least 5 different stores rush me, find me to tell me to hurry, but this was the worse one. I know their goal is to have a store every 15 miles and I live in the boonies of Alabama and even around me, theyve already succeeded at this goal. They are everywhere. I guess if you pay employees half of what they are worth, ignore all customer complaints, throw up a store every 15 miles, and give a good enough deal for customers to keep their mouth shut, you can pretty much do what you want. It's sad too because I use to love Dollar General. From now on I will be going to Wal-mart (the one that will soon take over the world but thats another story).
I am a General Manager of a major avaition organization. I am writing this in hopes that immediate investigation, appropriate actions, and resolutions by the Oklahoma Dollar Store Management Team and Corporate Executive's proceed concerning consistent employee harrassment ongoing at the Chelsea oklahoma Store branch. Most Corporations and managemet teams take worlplace violence and harrassment seriously, obviously not the Dollar Store at Chelsea. For several months the local store manager has been verbally threatning, harrassing, illustrating aggressive and hostile behavior towards direct reports and in front of customers, comitting acts (shaking her fist at employess), motivated by serious anger issues, making threatning remarks towards employess, and overall creating a very hostile and non productive workplace environment. This list of behaviors while not inclusive, provides examples of conduct that is prohibited under any major corporation's workplace policies and procedures, yet even after continuous employee compliant reports being filed with the Distric Manager, the situation has escalated and allowed to continue to progress without leadership intervention. Most company Business Ethics and Conduct Policies would not allow this type of situation to go on without being addressed appropriately based on sound ethical principals and long term employee retention. Hopefully this letter reaches the appropriate level of management that will take action in doing the right thing as I am comitted to ensure this is resolved immediately, and will pursue further action as needed.
Our community was so pleased, as I assume was shown by the volume of business, when Dollar General opened in our small community. My immediate family, including three adult children and families, shopped there several times a week to help support the new business in our town. However, recently "our" store in Russellville, MO has become just another place in town to purchase liquor. We thought DG was a family friendly store. I am very disappointed and so are many others!
Today, I went into Dollar General (Store #6968) off of McCombs on the Northeast side of El Paso, TX, to buy some things like I have in the past, and read online earlier, that there was a 10% discount to All Veterans, Active Military, members of the National Guard & Reserve and immediate family member(s). (Note: NO COUPON REQUIRED!) All that was required is to show your I.D. to the cashier. When I asked the cashier, she checked with the supervisor, who was on the phone and ignoring her. The cashier apologized but was very courteous anyways. Later I found out that the supervisor stated that she was not informed about the discount and would not be giving it out. How can a supervisor of a store not know about discounts on special holidays when it is on the website and advertised? If I could put a lower rating to the disappointment I felt, I would.
I had a terrible experience at the Dollar General at 325 South Polk Street Pineville, NC 28134-8572 (704) 889-8080 at 530PM on 11/6/11. I had about 80.00$ worth of merchandise in my cart and I realized I didn't have cash on me so I put my cart up front and was going to the ATM. I stood in line while the cashier was yelling and screaming (fighting verbally) with her co worker a male in yellow. The cashier was ignoring me and when I told her I would be back to purchase my items she looked at me rolled her eyes said "whatever" and went on yelling and calling her co worker a froggy and doggy and acting like a convict in a mental health facility. I left and didn't go back to purchase the items left in the cart. I was so upset the experience was horrifying and actually I was a little scared. I didn't get her name I wish I would have but I was so shocked at what was going on. I called the store and a lady answered and I asked to speak to the manager and she said she was. I asked her if she was working the cash register and she said yes then no. I asked her name she wouldn’t tell me, I asked who the lady at the cash register was and she would not tell me. I asked when and where I could contact the General Manager and she would not tell me. I hung up. I was unable to locate a corporate number so I found this email. I'm very upset and I thought you might like to know what goes on at the 325 South Polk Street Pineville, NC 28134-8572 (704) 889-8080 . Thank you and I hope you terminate that employee because Dollar General has lost my business and my co-workers!
if you leave a bag, not check your receipt, or buy broken merchandise your and idiot, its your fault and if you have to drive across the world to return it, its all your fault. the cashiers get so many people in a day to worry about babysittin the retards. why dont you make sure everything is good before you leave the store
I just want to tell you that you have a manager in the store located in Caruthersville Missouri....She is the best thing that could ever happen to your company. I have a hard time (because of a wreck) and she even carries my packages out. We are getting a new Dollar General here and I told her I thought she should be the new manager...she told me then that she has been the manager for five years or so...You would never know it. I have never gone in there that she herself didn't help me. Thank you for knowing what a valuable employee you have. I owned my own business for many years in Caruthersville and I know how hard it is to get someone you can depend on. Thank you again and you are very lucky to have this lady! Sincerely, Theresa Jean
To the manager of a Dollar General: Your under the assumption its already the customers fault. This is exactly the mindset I experience when going to the local Dollar General. If its such a grind working at a Dollar General than you and all of these type of employee's need to find other types of work. Preferably not in customer service if its such a chore to perform your duties. Service counter employees along with assistant and full managers need to be replaced with people who can perform their duties in a more professional manner than having a mindset that its always the customers fault. You would fit right in with the type of people that work at Montour Falls, NY DG. They all lack the respect for anyone and even there own co-workers. Reading your post just proves this is not simply an isolated incident in regards to only one store. Dollar General hire sub-par people because they have no education and can't find anything else because no one else will hire them and thats the reason for their low pay and terrible hours. Its no ones fault their own and reasoning why hard working people such as myself have to endure way below average service from Dollar Store managers and employees such as yourself. And some of us posting are AWARE of what this site is and what its for. Your already assuming other people aren't up to your standards when they in fact realize MORE than you do. I'm tired of dealing with stupid expressions when complaining to managers at the Dollar General and this is one avenue to express it.
I live in Dallas Texas , Oakcliff to be exact and i went to the dollar general on 3107 Camp wisdom Rd. And as soon as i walked in the door i knew it was going to be some hot shit. First of all, the cashier baby daddy was there laying on the counter talking to his baby mama ( the Cashier ) so she leaves go to the back and then she stays there for about five to ten mins. And when she comes back she did not say anything to me she was so rude . And ther store smell like ASS ! Black People get this shit togather.Iam Black so i feel like i have the right to say this.

I love how most of you people think that you're actually writing TO Dollar General. This website clearly states that it is NOT affiliated in any way. Although, you do have to be able to read in order to know this, so I shouldn't be that surprised that none of you know this. The things I've read on here at 90% pure, unadulterated BS. I used to work for Dollar General, so I know FIRSTHAND that there is always more to the story than people like to complain about. The way associates, and managers, are trained is to be curteous, gracious, friendly, and to treat each and every customer the way we'd like to be treated. Everyone has an off day; I don't care how perfect you think you are. As it is, there is always going to be that one person that is just a sour person, who really doesn't care about anything, including their job and the customers. People slip through cracks when management is under as much pressure as it is. The stores are always understaffed, and most likely always will be. There are very strict budget outlines for employees. Even on the most busiest day, at my store, there was only ever four people on a shift. As a customer, you're supposed to be treated as the most important aspect of the store, because without you there wouldn't be a store. Knowing this, however, does NOT give you an excuse to be a jackass. Yelling for a cashier when you first get to the register, no. Pushing your basket full of shit towards the already overworked and underpaid cashier, no. Throwing money at the cashier when their hand is out to take your money, no. Getting pissed at the cashier, or the manager for things that are out of our control, no. As a manager, we are there to fix any problem you might have. There is no reason to be snippy and cop an attitude with us because of your poor experience; Your problem won't get solved any quicker if you stand there and scream at us. Chances are, we'll take longer because we'll have to attempt to calm YOU down, concentrate on the rest of the customers, try to console an anxious cashier, AND fiddle with the computer. You want to know why 99% of the employees seem to hate their job? Y.O.U. I've had people throw a soda at me because one of the cans of a 6-pack fell and broke open, I've had people call me a c*nt, a b*tch, a r*tard, so YES, I'm going to yell at you and tell you to get the f*ck out of my store. Just because you're the customer, doesn't always mean you're right. There are policies in place because they're proven effective. What you need to keep in mind before you go into any store is that people are overworked, underpaid, and under-recognized. We deal with bullsh*t everyday, so it's going to wear us down after a while. Complain after you've worked in the same line of business for as long as most of these people you're complaining about have.
I think DG is a GREAT PLACE to shop. I agree with some of the statements about the BAD SERVICE, however to hold a company responsible for one single person is CRAZY. It is stressful working at these stores, and sometimes.. the customers are just as RUDE as the Employees are. Why can't everyone just ACCEPT that they Recieved bad service and not RANT and COMPLAIN about it. LIFE IS TOO SHORT TO COMPLAIN ABOUT A SHOPPING TRIP GONE WRONG. THE STORE EMPLOYEES WILL DIE BEFORE THEY CAN SATISFY EVERY CUSTOMER THAT WALKS THROUGH THE DOOR. I BET THE SAME STORES THAT ARE GETTING THE COMPLAINTS ALSO HAS LOYAL CUSTOMERS THAT LOVE IT THERE.
I was in the Dollar General Store located on 1050 Westbank Expressway in Westwego,LA. The service I got was so horrible the store need to be closed. I went in to pick up a few item and noticed they had 30 gallon Glad trash bags for 5.00 so I decided to pick up two boxes. Well I proceed on to check out, first I had to wait for the cashier to stop talking to the other worker to come check me out, that was no problem just figured it could be about work, ok she finally came she didn't speak or any thing she just picked up my items on the counter and startes ringing them up. When she scanned the trash bags the price said 5.50 instead of 5.00 like the sign said in the back so I stopped the casher and told the the sign I saw in the back say's 5.00 she took the box of trash bags and walked to the back to check the price when she came back she stated yes it is on sale for 5.00 so she called up the Key holder name SHAKIMBERLY to do an override for the price well when she comes up after being called several times she states that, that sale DO NOT START UNTIL OCTOBER 30, mind you I'm in the store at 6:00 on October 29th, so I state and I quote the exacte way I said it "So I have to wait until October 30th when I'm here now at 6:00 on the 29th?" Well your employee states to me with an attitude I can override the price BUT YOU NEED TO CHANGE YOUR ATTITUDE FIRST!!!! well I have never been so livade in my life for an company to allow and employee to speak to any one in that manner don't deserve my money. I told SHAKIMBERLY no I don't want the override because I should not have to ask for it, she stated that her MANAGER told her to change the prices early, so when I asked to speak to the MANAGER, her words were I AM THE MANAGER!!!!! OH MY GOD so not only is she an EMPLOYEE and RUDE SHE'S THE MANAGER!!! with that being said the line had backed up so SHAKIMBERLY called the next person in line to the other register, I could hear her telling the other customer that she was not going to override the price because I had an attitude, well you never know who knows who the customer she stated this to knows me. My items came up to 39.12 once SHAKIMBERLY made this statement I asked for an REFUND!!!! just because there are many places I can shop and not be treated like I am a bother for 1.00. as I see it if this company keep operating in this manner to rather loose a 39.12 vs 1.00 then you won't be in business much longer come on now how many people were going to come in behind me and buy trash bags at 6:00 in the evening? I WILL NEVER, NEVER SHOP AT ANOTHER DOLLER GENERAL, THE COMPETORS WILL ALWAY GET MY 39.12.!!!!!
The store at Montour Falls,NY has been a frustrating store for well over a year now. The managers and even most employees need to be replaced. Pricing is never correct on many of items and the customer is charged more at the register and when this is brought to the attention of the assistant manager he gets frustrated and extremely rude. His name is Leo. When he's himself he is simply a cocky type of person and acts like he's doing you a big favor when assisting someone. I'm continually returning to get items left out of my plastic bags and when I return to retrieve them I'm told that I'd "forgot it". How can one forget something when it wasn't put into the bag to begin with? There is ALWAYS a price problem each and every time I shop there and not ONCE has it been correct. Nobody cares when you have to return to get a product not put into the bag after being checked out and when you try to address the problem most employees simply try to act stupid and not understand what you saying even when spoken in simple plain English. This store DRASTICALLY needs to be revamped and new people brought in to correct pricing mistakes and have a caring attitude towards customers the store and their jobs. Each time I've bought products at this store I've experienced a significant problem that cost me in time or fuel for my car. I'am not ever returning to this store at Montour Falls, NY because of this and will go to Walmart or some other store than rather to have to deal with sub-standard employees that continually have no capacity to understand a customers problem or how to act towards them or even how to update the prices on products to their current date. I used to spend $40 each week at this Dollar General but Walmart is getting my money now.
I am sending this letter due to the waste you are having in you Danville Ky and surrounding counties. Ive have toured 5 of your stores and you have a terrible waste problem. I have seen pilfrage all over the store. I am working with several dept stores in loss prevention to stop and track all avenues of these thefts. I would say each of your store is loosing at least a thousand plus a day. We were working a fencing operations and 5o%percent of stolen items found was from the Dollar store. We have over 20 years in internal and external theft cases. And it being Nov & Dec coming up it will triple. We would like to talk with a regional or above manager to to stop all the losses! We can be reached at (859-324-2833) ask for the loss control dept;. Thank You for your time hope to hear from you. SHAWN D. DOUGLAS
Dollar General is not that bad of a place. I just thought I would write a possitive comment. I am assistant manager at a dg in shelbyville ky. I want all the customers here that has had a bad experience and say they will NEVER go back to know not all dollar generals treat customers bad. Try another store. At our store we are like a big family and regular customers know our names. I think it is just great to have wonderful customers like we do and I appreciate each and every one of you. Thank you so much for your buisness. Great customer service is a must, we want our customers to come back again and again. I know at times we may feel overworked, but we have to look past that. I want every one of our customers walking out of that door with a smile no matter what it takes. It may take opening the door, asking if you need a cart, helping reach an item on a top shelf, digging in the back room for something not on the shelf yet, or maybe just wishing they have a great day. I would like to, on behalf of dollar general, appologize to anyone that has been treated in an ill mannered way.
My family loves Dollar Generals except the one in Pilot Point Texas! My suggestion would be to get a manager in there that knew what they were doing. Just the other day we went in to pick up a couple of things and when it came time to check out all the employees were outside smoking! We just put down our stuff and left. Everytime we go in there it is something different. I also know of several people that will drive to Aubrey and shop at that Dollar General.
I am so disappointed in our Dollar General Store in Satsuma, AL. I only go in there now for the convenience as it is five minutes from my house. I used to call it the "Yellow Boutique" and went in several times a week just to enjoy shopping. I do not enjoy shopping there any longer. I just left there on a Sunday evening and there were at least 15 large netted crates of unstocked merchandise. There were no hamburger buns, no grated cheese, and the sodas I wanted were stacked in crates in the back corner with the cleaning supplies. The soda shelves were nearly empty. The last time I wanted sugar, the sugar shelf was empty, but an employee knew there was some on a different isle. Food merchandise is scattered all over the store, while the assigned shelves for these items are frequently empty. You could not get through the toy isle for a large half emptied push cart of merchandise. I used to take my grandsons there to buy toys. Boxes are everywhere. The floors are dirty. The merchandise that is shelved, is in disarray. The seal on the cooler door is loose from the door. Is that safe? The store's appearance is shameful. The last time I was there, an employee was walking around talking on the phone about a customer complaining about the mess in the toy isle. Maybe it was a legitimate business call, but it didn't look good. Tonight there were two cashiers and no one on the floor. When I got to the check out, I mentioned they were out of hamburger buns. The cashier asked me what brand I wanted and how many. She left the register, walked to the back, and came back with 1 pack of hamburger buns. The cheese I wanted may have been back there too if they have a cooler, but I don't like shopping from the register, especially when there are 3 people behind me waiting. The store has really gone down the last year. There is one employee I recognize from the last several years. There is constant turn over. The employees are friendly enough. I can't help but believe this all goes back to poor management, not slack employees. Do corporate people ever check their stores? I went in Family Dollar in Saraland last week and it looked like my Dollar General used to. I can drive 5 more minutes and have a pleasant shopping experience in a clean, neat, well stocked store, which is what my "Yellow Boutique" used to be. I miss it!!!
