I was feeling ill and sent my daughter to the store to get me some over-the-counter medicine. She had visited a store adjoin to DG prior to going to Dollar General. Well they normally asked you to place your bags behind the counter, so as routine she did. Upon checking out at the register she asked for my bags. Well the manager informed her that my bags were gone. I went back to the store and told them I wanted my items or my money back for the things that were stolen. After the manager viewed the surveillance tape he found that 2 females grab my bags and went out the door, while he was standing right there. He contacted the district manager; who wouldn't even talk to me and to him to relay me this message: I will not refund or replace your item.....WOW... No apology, No nothing. From the moment the store manager agreed to watch my bags it became DG responsibility. I did call the police out to the store but what are the chances of me getting my money or items back! I will never go back to any DG stores EVER AGAIN....Thanks Jon Howard of Summerville, SC you really know who to treat Dollar General customers.

Me an my daughter went to the Dollar General In Hiddenite NC yestersday b/c the lady on the phone said they had lots of toys outside on clearence marked down.Ok I bought my grandson a race track an it had the dot star on it and I bought my g-daughter a musicual toy an it had a star.They were 10.00 a piece but with the clearence it should have been 5.00 a piece on both toys.When I went inside and the cashier rung them up she told me the car track was not a marked down item,IASK HER TO TALK TO THE MANANGER and she said they moved the other toys outside to make room in the store for other toys.Me an the cashier told her it had the star so I should have paid half price which would have been 5.00.my g-daughters toy had the same star and her's was 10.00 but it rang up half price at 5.00.When I told the manager that was false advertising she just walked off into the office so I ended up paying the full price.I told the cashier if it was not a clearence item that it should not have been out there.She agreed with me but if it wasn't half price then why put a dot or star on the item an place it outside?I won;t be shopping there anymore.I will shop at Family dollar from now on b/c when they have stuff outside on clearence u get it at that price!!!

I love the Dollar General store in Leander, TX but I encountered a new, rude, irresponsible, think she know it all manager today. I purchased a few items a couple of days ago and decided to bring one back. A few hours later, I went by my bank and was told that a charge was made from DG right after I was refunded. I called the manager and spoke to her and she flat out told me that something was wrong with my bank and she has never saw anything like that happen cause it should still be in pending status. I told her it was not in pending and im going to print it out and bring it to her so that we can straighten it out. After going back and forth with her, she told me to wait a few days and come back cause it was nothing she can do and I would need to speak to customer service, BULLSHIT. I have shopped at that store for years and never had a problem exchanging or returning anything. Her attitude was horrible and she did not want to take responsibility for her mess up. Nevertheless, I will continue to shop there but that manager needs to know how to interact with the public and assist customer's better if she continues to work there. DISSATIFIED LONG TIME CUSTOMER!

I loved it when few years ago a dollar general opened in my town of windom Mn but everytime my family and i go there shopping the manager follows us the whole time making it uncomfortable every trip a week ago my sister and i went to dollar general for christmas supplies and again we were followed for over an hour about to check out the manager approached me and accused me of shoplifting i was mortified and we were asked to leave very ridely i have never been so embarressed

I was shopping at your north MLK store in lansing. your were nearly out of every type of paper towel on shelf i asked the lady at check out if had more in back they said they too busy to look. asked another lady walking and chatting on phone to friends and she said too busy her name was rhonda.the store was trashed and half the shelfs empty this was saturday afternoon. i will never shop at dollar general again. everyone moves like a snail there and act like it busy so no need to do anything.

HAS DOLLAR GENERAL GOTTEN SO BAD IN MISSISSIPPI UNTIL THEY ARE NOW TAKING WALMART REJECTS. STEVE HAYNES THE FORMAL STORE MANAGER FOR WALMART WAS FORCED TO RESIGN FOR STEALING FROM WALMART AND NOT JUST A DVD. NOW HE IS A DM FOR DOLLAR GENERAL. IS THAT COMPANY THAT DESPRITE UNTIL THEY COULD NOT HIRE A HONEST PERSON WITHIN THE COMPANY.I WORKED WITH THIS MAN AT WALMART. MY HEART GOES OUT TO THE PEOPLE THAT HAS TO WORK WITH HIM. DOLLAR GENERAL REALLY SHOUILD DO A BETTER JOB ON BACKGROUND CHECKS!!!!!

To Whom It May Concern: I went shopping on 12-7 at Lafayette Dollar General #03527. They had a sign that said 50% off on toy with a Yellow Star on them. I got two differ Game that hook to a TV that had a Yellow Star on them. They let me buy one with the 50% off. But the other game they had to see the Manager about and she said I could not buy with 50% off. I told her that was not what the sign said. She said it was not 50% off because it was an Electronics Game. The other game that I bought with 50% off was an Electronics game too if that was the case I would not been able to buy the other one with 50% off. She Lie to me because you can’t sell one Electronics game with 50% off and not sell the other because it an Electronics game. If that the way Dollar General do business? The manager was hateful with me because I told her what the sign said. The lady that check me out apologize to me.

I am a store manager for a dollar general. And all of our stores are not bad. Good rule of thumb: if the stores are terrible it doesnt go as far as corporate or the people at the SSC but it more or less stems down to poor field management (District managagers and such) Poor DM's lead to poor stores. If one store is terrible travel down the road the other one probably is too (same district) a lot of the blame can be laid on DMs. My DM ranks 3rd in our division in overall satisfaction and in the top 20 in the entire company thats something to be said considering we have 550 district managers. We have only had one corporate complaint in the past year and a half out of my district. So level your heads and think rationally and not in the moment and realize that it isnt the whole company.

I will not shop in your store in East Cleveland, Ohio ever again! It is your only DG in East Cleveland. The line was too long before another line was opened up. Even though there were two managers there (I know they were mgrs. because the cashier told me) they seriously ignored the customers and had enough nerves to look like they had a bad attitude when the 1 opened up. You would think that DG would check these people out that they hire. Do they watch their cameras to review what is taking place in their stores? It is really bad when you have a awful Mgr. team!

Recently I purchased an item in a DG store located here in one of the malls where I live. When I cahsed out at the register I gave the Cahsier a $20.00 bill because that's all I had on me at the time. The total was a little over $4.00. Expecting to receive change for about $13.00 the Cashier gave me only around $6.00. When I questioned her about it and advised her that I gave her a $20.00 bill, she shot back at me " no you did not, you gave me a $10 ". I told her that I gave her a $20 because that was all I had and I asked her to please check the cash drawer. She refused to open the cash drawer. I then offered to leave my name and phone # to contact me after they Cash out that night as they will find that they are $10.00 over in cash. She refused and told me that I was lying. At that point I said " Well, Merry Chrismas. I guess I just made a $10.00 donation to the store". Needless to say, the cashier was very rude and I will never set foot in that store ever again! DG really needs to work on improving their customer service skills.

Cashier did not give one of my purchases I had to return to Dollar General in the rain at night I do not have good eyesight at night and a waste of my gas It was a inconvenience for me there at the store I was accosted by a male customer drunken because he thought I insulted his wife. The manager acted inappropriately towards me because I told the customer to mind his own(damn) business IF the employee had given me my purchases in the am when I was there I would have not been inconvenienced nor who I have been verbally threaten by this man. I have never had a problem at Dollar Tree, or Family Dollar. So I will be spending my hard earned dollars at these places instead of this trash hole..you are what you attract I guess.

I contacted D.G. in regards to a Christmas Program I run every year and asked them to help me this year to collect Used to New toys, Gift Wrapping paper, Ribbons, bows and tape, which were going to be sent to The Indian Reservation and also West Side Elementary School in Ringgold Ga. Well I was told they were going to do it for me this year and I was excited! I felt so Blessed I was Over Joyed to think for the first time I was going to finally get help with my program and so much good was going to come of it. Fact is the manager wasn't a manager she wasn't even an assistant manager, she was an associate pretending to be a Manager and now my program is not getting the toys, not getting the things I dreamed about the kids all getting. They did collect stuff and guess what D.G's real manager donated the stuff to the sheriffs Dept's Christmas program which is a great program to be sure. I'm so upset and so disappointed I haven't stopped crying about it since I found out yesterday! I went back and discussed it with the real Store Manager Melanie and she was as shocked and angry as I am that anybody would pull such a stupid stunt plus to realize that I wasn't a liar and which is basically what the Manager and District Manager thought when I contacted the other folks helping me. I don't even know how I can ever get all the stuff that I need this year because I was depending on this store so very much it is an outrage. Ringgold Ga. was one of the worst hit areas during the Tornado's. It is a very small town and we lost so very much. Many folks are still struggling to rebuild to have their lives back to just normal. I doubt D.G. really even cares that they have let us all down. They are a big business you would think they could have at the very least sent a few toys or gift wrap or tape or something besides telling me sorry but the stuff is gone and you simply won't be getting anything at all. I'm hurt and angry and very upset over this whole thing! Walmart locked me in once in the Garden Center and they at least offered me a patio tent to make up for it. So if anybody on here reads this please send the CEO and the Corporate Office a note telling them all for me that this won't be forgotten and just because I am only one person I use to spend thousands of dollars at the Ringgold Ga. store and from here on out my money will be spent else where this coming year and all the years after unless they do something to correct this error! I am not the only one who is going to stop being a customer at the stores I know many folks and word is going to spread what a dirty thing to do to a bunch of children at Christmas time! i wish each and everyone of you a Very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!

I am an employee at Spicewood Springs Dollar General store in Austin, Tx. The District Manager will show up on occassion & treat all of the employees & my store manager as if we are dirt. We are a small store & she does not appear to realize that what works well at the bigger store does not work well at our store because of our size. She gets into shouting matches with my store manager because she refuses to listen when the store manager attempts to tell her that our store is not like her other larger stores. She also blames the SHRINK/theft in our store on the employees even though we have plainly captured several customers on camera stealing. My store manager has changed the schedule twice in the past two weeks without letting employees know like she is required to by law. One such occassion was today, when she changed my schedule from closing tonight to coming in at noon & working until 4. When I got there tonight she demanded to know why I didn't show up & denies that she changed the schedule. I know my schedule was changed because when I was there yesterday doing my christmas shopping I looked in the office at my schedule which said I was to close tonight. At least one of my employees can agree to this

Alot of people in harts creek west virginia is wondering why you havn't don't have a store here. the family dollar store is booming there. They also would love to have a dollar general in the area as well.(4 stars) because we don't have a dollar general.Would you please concider putting one in harts creek! What? No Zero star rating? Too bad!I am writing to the corporate office, but I doubt they care too much, even though it does hurt their bottom line. I had a clerk who accidently over-charged me. When I returned, another clerk said they were not on sale. I proved them wrong. They couldn't return my money unless I gave my name, address, and phone number. When I balked, the second clerk was rude. My private information is not their business on a cash sale. I was told I had no choice. Had I thought about it and not felt pushed I would have made up a phony address. As it was, I did tell him. What right does DG have to do this? The clerk acted as if I had no choice. Actually, I could have called the police. When I mentioned employee error, he was rude and said it was the computer and not the employee. I glared and after he gave me my change I corrected HIM. "Actually, it was employee error. The computer is not capable of deciding how much to charge. Someone entered the price and did not mark it as half price. Human error. I was correct." He has the sense not to respond. So I go to another DG with a DG coupon. After finding what I wanted, I tried to check out. Was told some items were not sale items. A clerk went with me and we found something in the area, also in red/white Christmas boxes, was not on sale. No problem. Found other items. Tried again. Machine still would not say I should get sale price. Clerk, manager, and I tried to find out what was wrong. Never could. All were "Holiday" items. Computer does not say what is/isn't sale item, so they could help me. Manager told me she couldn't do anything. A manager who can't give credit? Is that not the definition of a manager? Someone who can make things happen? Finally, after over 1/2 hour I had enough. Took picture of all which I had intended to buy and left it on the counter, telling the nice clerk that she was going to have to put it back on the shelf. I was a coupon for $10 off. No way I was going to buy when I would have to pay an extra $10. Now, I have facebooked to my friends about it and have told everyone I know that they are not a good store. Maybe if they end up losing enough business, they may decide to shape up. Otherwise, they will end up closing. What a joke!

I am a usual customer of Dollar General in Pompano Thumbs up to Pompano. However, I came to Pembroke Pines and asked an associate where some items were and he told me, "me speak no english, go to my manager" that 2nd part was in english. I was walking away saying this is real nice and the guy's name was Antonio and he said its real nice mimiking me. I went to the manager and said the guy says he can't speak english but he was half talking in english and spanish. The manager said I'm sorry but he just came from Cuba and he is learning the language. I said this is my country and I deserve spanish speaking people to be bilinqual and understand americans. He said well they signed it into law. I said yes to be english and spanish not spanish only. They are trying like hell to take over this complete country and it disgusts me. I was born and raised here and want to get the hell away from this. Then Antonio came down the aisle arguing with me in front of the manager half spansih and half english. The manager had to keep telling him to leave and he still continued to stand there and argue.

I hate to even give 1 star, but it wouldn't let me give 0!!!!!! im so tired of the poor customer service and the dangerous piles of goods all over the isles!! but worst of all, when you buy a product with your hard earned money you expect your moneys worth! I bought a fryer from DG on the southside of tallahassee and then realized it was damaged. i had already thrown out the box before i noticed the damage. so I get told I have to keep my damaged goods and could not exchange it!!!! so GD basically STEALS your money after selling you damaged goods!!!!!! SUCH BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE!! If I don't get what I paid for, I WILL NEVER SHOP HERE AGAIN!!!! and I will tell everyone I know to stay away from DG, including Angie's list!!!

I am an employee for Dollar General... I had a basket thrown at me by another employee this employee still has his job and they are making me work with him I don't feel like this is right. I visited the store at Raines and Kirby road in Memphis Tennessee today and I was not treated with the respect a loyal customer deserves. I took my time shopping and carefully picking each item I wanted to purchase only to be turned around because the cashier said I needed correct change. I asked for the manager, but the cashier then became rude. I explained that I really wanted to purchase my items, but was told oh well. I am a paying customer and have never been treatd so bad. I was forced to shop next door at Family Dollar, and they greeted me at the door. I was treated like a customer at Family Dollar. I feel like the cashier Tae, should be taught more about customer service. I probably will not return back to that store,and I definately won't recommend that Dollar General to a friend. I was forced to leave my bags at the counter. My husband told me not to stop there because he too had been turned away before because the cashier had no change in the drawer. But I thought hey its a Friday night, they will surely have sufficient change. I should have listened to my husband, it would have save me some valuable time. I am sending this message so the next customer will not be turned away.

I am not giving DG 1 start because of the store it self, I will share my experiance I had today! I was shopping @ DG in Buffalo NY on Bailey Ave and when I was done shopping I had a few things to throw out of my car and seeing i was parked next to the dumpster I went to throw them away along with a few things in the parking lot that was full of trash SMH anyway I opened the dumpster and noticed a LG box full of boy's tee shirts (Transformers,Spiderman, Monster Truck ETC) brand new still with tags there had to be 50 or more so iI grabbed my snow brush from my car to retrive the shirts I was able to get about 10 shirts out when a girl had pulled up and I expained what I was doing & asked her please not to tell on me she said " oh I work here and we throw stuff out all the time" Well she did tell a min later the manager came out and told me I had to stop I explained to him that I was going to DONATE to the Red Cross or Cathlic Charities and it was a SHAME that they throw stuff like this out when SO many children are in need of clothing ETC he replied "we just donated some flip flops" I hate to think of all the other perfectly good stuff just going to fill our land fills when so many people are in need!!!!
