I have shopped at the Sheridan, AR store because they hired a new manager a few years ago Shaunda and she cleaned that place up from top to bottom. That is hardest working woman I have ever met!!!! She took that store from a less than 1 star to over a 5 star. I could honestly say it was the cleanest store I have ever been in!!!! Her employees were always working, she never ask them to do anything she wouldn't do herself. Her work ethic was above and beyond. Now I hear that she is not there anymore. Well, since you ran her off, you have ran off 95% of your customers!!!! We shop there because of her and how well she ran that place. You mark my words, the place will turn back into the filthy dump it was before she took over and you might as well close the doors because WE the customers who pay your salary won't be back. You promote people who don't have any concern for your business or it's customers and you let a Diamond like her get away!!! SHAME ON YOU!!!

Until recently, I have enjoyed shopping at my local Dollar General. The manager and employees are friendly and helpful. However, my problem is with corporate & their orders and I am truly offended over this. Wednesday, Dec. 21, I went in to purchase a few items needed for a Christmas dinner. There, spread out in one whole isle, was VALENTINE merchandise - including chocolates and associated candies. It was not even 'Christmas' yet and Dollar General was promoting an event in February. What has happened to this Nation??? Please!!! Before a special holiday has even occured, you are pushing the next one. This is getting rediculous. Christmas is a very Holy Day to us Christians, not just a money-making event for stores/retailers. In the case of Valentine's Day, who would even WANT to buy this candy/chocolate that has been on the shelves for over six weeks. What we need is EVERY customer at these stores to complain about these company procedures so we, as consumers, are not at their mercy at to when we have to purchase our seasonal merchandise. Items should be available until that event is OVER. Another example is School Supplies. You make a big deal out of promotions for "Back to School" - in the middle of the summer. By the time school starts and parents find out exactly what the children even NEED, Thanksgiving stuff is out. I think this has gone on long enough but the current situation regarding Christmas seems to be the last straw for me. Happy 4th of July.

Try calling DG HQ. All I got with the number here was a continual loop and I called from central time and at 3:55PM CST, they would not take calls. No wonder I spend more money at Family Dollar.

I am a frequent shopper at the Dollar General Store on State Road 21 in Melrose, Florida. Today I encountered a very rude cashier whom embarrassed me in front of those shopping in the store and other coworkers. I was checking out and she said rather loudly and rudely that she was not told the method of payment that I was purchasing the items with. I informed her that I did nto know that I was supposed to let them know. She was rather rude and huffy and repeated rather loudly to all that could hear my method of payment and that no one told her. I have never encountered such rudeness from someone who has a job serving the public. She humilated me and I will never shop at this store again. I called the store to file a grievance and no one could offer me a corporate number to contact. To my surprise the employee named Pam at store number #7253 was the assistant manager. I have been in positions of management in my employment history and have never been rude to any customer. She had me so upset that I left my purchases at the counter and said to forget it. As I was leaving I could see that she thought that her rudeness was nothing to worry about and was laughing with another employee. If this is who Dollar General hires as employees and as a manager you can be certain that I will never shop at this store again and will tell everyone that I know not to shop their either. Shame on them for hiring rude employees.

Until now, I would rate the Dollar General in Electra, TX as a 5-star establishment, especially since Pricilla took over as manager. But on 12/20/11 I had an experience that has totally reversed my opinion of DG. I purchased a tower heater and after accepting my receipt, I thanked the clerk and commented that I might be returning the heater after checking how much electricity it pulled. AT THAT TIME, I was advised that I could not get a refund. No problem, I would take a store credit as I was in the store often. No, no store credit either. I could only exchange it for another heater. I told the clerk that would have been nice to know BEFORE I made my purchase. I was advised there was "a sign saying no refunds". I returned to the display and circled it multiple times searching for the warning sign and no sign was found. I unhappily took the heater home and after checking the amount of electricity it pulled and I immediately returned to the store, left the heater with the promise to return the following day to speak with the manager. The manager also informed me she could not give me a refund. I told her there was no warning sign about refunds. I was told "well, there used to be". She called her boss and ask if she could give me a refund. But she failed to tell him, 1)there was NO SIGN warning of no refunds and 2)I was not told until AFTER my transaction was complete there were no refunds. Now, I'm stuck with a $35 heater that pulls more electricity than my window air conditioner. I'm certainly not going to use it and would NEVER pawn it off on someone else knowing how much electricity is required for its operation. I am VERY disappointed that a corporation the size of Dollar General would have to resort to such unfair trade practices to generate income. I will probably return to my previous shipping habits, paying a little more, but purchasing with confidence knowing that I can return any product I'm not satisfied with. I myself am a private business owner and any product my customers are not happy with I gladly take back and give a full refund. I would NEVER tell my customer, sorry, it's yours once you pay for it. Anyone with any sense would know what that would do to their business. Guess Dollar General is so self-cnfident they don't care.

I was looking for someone to help me find something and didn't see anyone so i went in the stock room and seen a white girl named Jessica and a very tall black Guy having sexual contact. Or you can say she was sucking his thing. That is very nasty and i will never go back. I can't believe that was happening. I want something done about it. If y'all have cameras you will see it. Its the bright orange dollar store in Westlake la.

**Mechanicsville, VA- Atlee Road Location!** I live in Mechanicsville Virgina and go to the Dollar General off of Atlee Road numerous times a week. There was an employee by the name of Tracey at that location. I'm not sure where she has been the last week, but she was the best employee you had at that location. The manager Beckey at that location is RUDE and very obnoxious, I have personally witnessed her call her young female employees out and basically all but call them idiots, I am VERY upset as a customer and will no longer be going to that location because of the negativity and the "better than you attitude" that I receive from Beckey and witness her give female employees. I can promise you that all of the regular customers miss Tracey's upbeat attitude and smiling face! We as a whole are disappointed by the lack of respect or even approachability that we now receive in that store. I have been in there where Beckey has publicly jumped her young female employees in front of customers (never her young male employees) and from what the customers see never does anything, yet expects from her employees a million times more than she gives. Since when does a corporate store allow a manager to discriminate on a young employee based on her age and sex? I am highly disappointed with your corporation and will now be shopping else where. You need to fire Beckey for discriminating against young female employees!

To the one who wrote about being afraid. I work for Dollar General as well and believe that you need to follow your chain of command. If you cannot tell the DM or the RM then you need to go beyond them. I wish I would have seen this sooner but I just happened to stumble upon this site. Anyway there is help I would not do it for him it is not right and if he decides he is upset with you he could fire you for doing it. That is not right what an outrage. You are right to not take the test. That other person needs to take the test again in 90 days by himself.

Iam from Bamberg S C and have been an customer since this store has been in our area town anyway my son was hired there on friday and was fired on friday the manager who name is Tina told him he could leave at 6pm after starting at 9am well the asistant manager called him and told him he was fired due to him not staying to work the resigter until who ever the person was to work didnt show up on time. who does this hire and fire on the same day is this the policy of dollar general. there was a lack of communication somewhere and someone in management drop the ball, totally dissatisfied plan to take my business else where and will let others know this is a bad work experience for someone just starting out in the work force

I am not writing a " review " - - I am TRYING to contact someone at corporate to inform them that our organization intends to present one of their manager and stores with a Certificate Of Appreciation " this coming Thursday, December 22 at 10:00 am and I was hoping that corporate would have enough interest that they might help in having our local media / newspaper on hand. I would appreciate a response to this A.S.A.P., My name is Steve McAllister and I am the Adjutant/Historian for the local Camp of the Sons Of Confederate Veterans who recently held a toy drive at one of your stores. You can contact me at this e-mail address and at ( 4 2 3 ) 7 4 5 - 6 0 0 1 or at ( 4 2 3 ) 3 8 1 - 7 9 2 3. Sincerely, Steve "Mac" McAllister Adjutant/Historian S.C.V. Camp 2089 Athens, Tennessee .

I went into the dollar gen as i always shop here but not at this store and bought an item from the clearance section upon going thru the checkout the clerk (MuMu) took my item and advised me i could not purchase this because it was not for sale i advised her that the item was on sale and i could buy it she stated this is not the case i asked for a copy of the policy and she called for the manager who also said the item could not be sold i asked for a copy of this rule and the manager then stated he would now sell the item to me Dollar General should properly train their employees on dealing with the public and policies and procedures as i had to inform them of store procedures i will not visit this store again

I am wondering why this site has so many complaints about Dollar General stores. I see why, I had my first really bad experience with the store manager today on French Road in Cheektowaga, New York. Does corporate know that you have people working in your stores acting in the manner that they do? Is it not that "word of mouth" is the worst type of advertising than anything else. I am surprised at the treatment given me after being a customer for many years at this store by the manager. In this economy, it is supply and demand if you have customers coming into your store every week spending almost $100.00 ( which I do) why if I wanted to return something and purchase it at the sale price, which I was told that I could not do. Then I was told that if I returned it I would not be allowed to purchase it at all, at her discretion and I had told her that it was Xmas presents, she just told me no. I was also told that my purchases from two days ago that totaled $155.00 that I would only be getting back $139.00, I told her that all of the items are here and you are going to return exactly what I paid for them. Also, I had purchased a pair of slippers for $6.00 and the sale sign said $2.00 off, well the signs were for the previous week and as you well know that if a sale sign is out and the customer gets the product for what is being advertised, she refused to give me credit, (they had forgotten to take the signs down from the previous 2 weeks ago Dec 5th) I am thoroughly disgusted, that store in particular will never get my business again EVER, I will drive walk or take a plane to go to another DG in another area. Again,in this economy with so many businesses going under and people being laid off, why would you refuse to allow a customer to purchase an item knowing that if you do not have any business that is grounds for your employer to lay you off, NO MONEY, NO BUSINESS, NO NEED FOR EMPLOYEES. Do you get it employees of Dollar General, but then again it does not take a rocket scientist to get a clerks job anywhere, that is why I have a profession and can afford to shop to the tune that I do every week or anytimne. No matter, I can shop anywhere, but to all of you complainants, don't think that because you put these complaints on this site that anything is going to happen, for me I intend to print all 26 pages of complaints, type a letter and cc it to all of the executives at Dollar General in Tennessee. That is what you do. Anyway, I am DONE, DONE, DONE, WITH THIS DG and if I find lousy service in another DG, then I will go to Family Dollar or any other store that I will not encounter a problem with.

I would like everyone to know the new staff at the dollar general at crab orchard ky is by far the most rude people I have ever associated with. I went to return some shoes that I had purchased there a couple days before 10 minutes before closing and the man working told me that he had shut everything down because he did not want to deal with me because he rather smoke his cigarette and the other girl there would rather sit outside on the store phone chattin away and smoking her cigarette. I personally think that someone should do something about that I work 7 days a week and that's the only rime I had to return them and I am going to tell everyone I know to stop going there untill something is done about them.

I bout a product for $6 dollars at your store in Oxford Michigan. I got home and saw that it was broken. I went back and had the receipt showing I paid cash. The total was $6 plus tax. The girl looked dumb-founded at the item and asked if I wanted another one. I didnt want another poorly made product so I said I just wanted my money back. She called someone else that i assume is a manager. She came with the same slow look and asked if I wanted another one. I said I wanted a refund so she looked at my receipt for like 2 minutes then asked for my drivers license. I said I didnt need to give it to you to buy it and I had the receipt. She answered with "you won't get anything if you dont show your drivers license" So I held it out, she took it and started typing info in their computer. I told her to stop and she said "that's policy or you wont get a refund" So now I have my personal info and probably my dl number in their system and who knows when that will get breached. So I will NEVER EVER shop at Dollar General again. I will also tell anyone I can not to. As a side note, one of the people there told me the reason they take all that info is because DG has a database of people so they dont get thiefs that steal and return things. I told her I had the rec. and it was only $6 dollars. She told me there is a building in that strip mall that has a bunch of dope and drunks and they hang out there all day because they dont work. She said they come in and steal all the time or try to return things. So great, now they have my info because some dope heads steal from them

I live in a really small town called Brooker its in Florida. The closset town that has a store is about 30 mins away unless u want to go to the kangroo and spend a fortune on a loaf of bread or even a roll of toilet paper. But now Thank GOD we have a Dolllar general and i can Honestly say that its the BEST Dollar General I have ever been in I go it about 4 to 5 times a week to shop and it is so nice to have a place where you can take ypur family exspecially my kids and not have to worry about them seening or being around anything thats not very nice. They have Two employees there that i can say since the place has open I now one lady had been there from the time the doors open for stocking the store to finally the GRAND opening her name is Heather Evans she has made my family shopping there so delightful that anyone who has been there nows exactly who im talking about she just make sure she can do anything to help and always has an answer. to even make house calls meanning delivering milk bread and eggs to a elderly lady that lives with her daughter and cant get out to go shopping but maybe once every two to three weeks but she can call Heather at the store and she never says no I cant today. Things like that you just never see anymore and it makes the store even better. The next Lady is Jennifer Newman she hasnt been here to long but she s the manger she is another one that i can say does a great job. Now i have read all the comments on this web page and sorry to see that some of you have had trouble like these on your trips to your Dollar General but i can say that if Dollar general would give there employee more instives that maybe you would have more employee like Heather and Jennifer so there is anyway possible can you please help Heather out this Christmas I know she works as many hours as she can without getting into trouble but she is the only one in her house that is working with three kids its not easy as we all know but maybe with her doing the best job that I have ever seen maybe Dollar general can give a helping hand. thanks a great customer that will keep coming back. Nancy

This is the second time my family has had problems with DG in Sharon, TN. The first time my husband went into the store for like the third time that day (we lived down the street and with small children you always forget something). When he walked in the cashier was watching him and then got on the phone. Not long after she hung up the phone a cop walked into the store and began following him around. Long story short she called the cops on him because some guy who kind of looked like him was stealing stuff. I thought people were innocent until proven guilty. Our second issue happened today (same store) again my husband went into the store to buy something. The cashier (different girl) argued with him over how much the item was. He told her she need to check her stuff before she argued with customers. She picked up the phone and threatened to call the cops. Now we live in a small retirment town with alot of elderly people. The cops shouldn't be called everytime the customer and cashier have a disagreement. To top it all off she wouldn't give us the corporate number so we went to another DG store and asked them for the number. She had called them and told them not to give us the number. So when we got there she was rude and refused to give us the number. Most of the employees are rude and act like they hate having to even speak to people. Their prices are never as marked on the shelves. They have buy one get one deals on gray dot items, but when you check out they always have an excuse that it doesn't apply to that item (no matter what it is). I'm just tired of working hard for my money and giving it to people who disrespect me and my family. I'm helping pay their salary the least they could do is be respectful to their customers.

On Tuesday Dec. 13th, 2011 my mom and I went to the Dollar General on Winchester Ave. in Ashland, KY. It was approximately 5:30PM. After walking around the store for about 20 minutes, I picked out some items for my kids and my mom found a bin of clearance socks, so she picked out a few pair. The socks were marked 2/$1 and were located in the clearance aisle. My mom went to check out first. When the lady (brown hair, glasses) rung the socks up they were not coming up at the clearance price. My mom explained very nicely to her that they were marked clearance. The lady made this rude smirky face and said, "They're not ringing up." So my mom told her well there is a huge box of them in the clearance aisle. She said, "So. They're not ringing up. It's not my problem." Well then I told her someone needs to go back there and re-sticker the socks if they arent on sale, and she once again made a rude, smirky face and said, "Well what am I supposed to do about it, it's not my problem." So I looked at my mom and said nevermind about the socks. My kids didnt need them, just let me check out with my stuff and we'd go. So I put my items up there. They lady rang one up and in a very rude voice she said, "$4.41". I was like, "huh"?? And then she looked and said, "oh there's more." So after she rung that up, once again, in a NASTY, rude, downright mean voice she said, "$21.24". I reached in my pocket for my debit card and she snapped, "Are you gonna pay?" Where's your Money?" OMG I looked at her and said, "Nevermind, you're rude and I don't want the stuff. Keep it." So as we were walking out she started talking to a co-worker saying, "Think about that, they're so stupid." OMG I got so mad, I actually walked back in the store, I was looking for the manager. Then for a second I thought maybe I should gather up my items that I didn't get and just get them to see if she is still rude or maybe she'd apologize. As I was walking towards the checkout counter she looked up at me and made another mean face towards me and in a low voice said, "the stupid's are back." So I threw the stuff down, gave her the finger, and walked out. There was another employee in the parking lot gathering carts so I stopped to talk to her and tell her about it. She urged me to call the Manager (Linda) in the morning which I will definitely do. My mom shops at that dollar general a lot, she spends a lot of money in there. But after this incident she said she will no longer give Dollar General any business, she will take her money to Dollar Tree.

MY DM STEVE HAYNES CONTACTED ME ABOUT TAKING THE MANAGERS TEST FOR ANOTHER EMPLOYEE THAT CAN NOT PASS THE EXAM. I NO THIS IS AGAINST COMPANY POLICY AND I CAN BE TERMINATED FOR DURING SUCH AN ACT. BUT IF I REPORT HIM TO THE RM. SHE IS JUST GOING TO BRUSH IT UNDER THE TABLE. IM VERY SCARED OF LOSING MY JOB WITH THE ECONOMY BEING THE WAY IT IS AND I HAVE JUST BEEN PROMOTED TO STORE MANAGER. CAN SOMEONE TELL ME JUST WHAT AM I SUPPOSE TO DO WHEN MY DM IS ASKING ME TO DO THINGS THAT ARE AGAINST COMPANY POLICY.
