My wife and I purchased ADT and was told by the salesperson that we could pay the montly bill by check which we preferred. ADT started to withdraw the monthly bill directly from our checking account without our approval. We contacted ADT because we were moving and asked us if we plan on adding ADT to our new home and we said no. The last check we wrote was for $40.78. ADT altered the check and made it $147.80. WE contatced the bank and they said that that was illegal to alter any check. We sent them a check for $478.00 in April and received a bill for $796.50 for one month (June -July 2011) That's a lot of money for basic service for one month.

TODAY I SPOKE WITH SHAWNA IN THE CORPORATE OFFICE REGARDING A SERIOUS MATTER REGARDING MY HOME SECURITY WITH ADT, I MEAN DEFENDER SECURITY COMPANY? MY WIFE AND I THOUGHT THAT WE WERE IN THE GOOD HANDS OF ADT! SHAME ON YOU FOR "FARMING US OUT"!! A SALESMAN FOR SILVERLINE SERCUITY CAME TO MY HOME, GAINED ENTRY INTO OUR HOME BY SAYING THAT HE REPESENTED GE,"THE LARGEST MAKER OF HOME SECURITY PRODUCTS" AND HE WOULD EXPAND OUR SERVICE FOR THE SAME COSTS. WE TALKED AND HE THOUGHT THAT WE WERE GOING TO BE A NEW CUSTOMER, BUT SINCE I HAD A 3 YEAR CONTRACT WITH DEFENDER SECURITY, I WOULD BE PENALIZED FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE "CONTRACT". TO MAKE THIS WORSE, THE REP, DIRECTED HIS TECH TO TAKE OUT THE ADT EQUIPMENT, MAIN CONTROL UPSTAIRS AND KEY PAD IN THE MASTER BEDROOM,WHICH WAS DONE. AT THIS TIME I GOT MY ADT FILE AND SURE ENOUGH, I DID SIGN A 3 YEAR CONTRACT. FOR THE RECORD, WE HAD BEEN BRINK CUSTOMERS SINCE THE EARLY 1980'S, BUT WE WERE CO-OPTED BY ADT (WE THOUGHT).NOW IT IS DEFENDER SECURITY? OF COURSE, I DID NOT AGREE WITH THE GE REP, SINCE HE WAS A FRAUD, DESTROYED ANY FORMS THAT WE HAD SIGNED, ANE HE AND THE TECH LEFT OUR HOME. I CONTACTED THE COMPANY THAT HE REPRESENTED AND THEY AGREED TO PAY CHARGES FOR THE RE-INSTALLTION. TO DATE, NONE OF THE ADT OR DEFENDER PEOPLE HAVE BEEN RESPONSES BUT ONE TECH, "OUWET" CAME TO OUR HOME ON JUNE 17, WORKED ONE HOUR, AND LEFT. STILL NO SERVICE. I HAVE FINALLY GIVEN UP, AND CALLED BRYANT YESTERDAY IN JACKSONVILLE, FL. TO CANCEL, PAY THE FINE, AND GO ON MY WAY. HE WAS VERY CORDIAL, WANTED TO SAVE ADT'S BUSINESS AND BE OF HELP AND FOLLOW-UP. HE WAS GREAT! TODAY, I CALLED THE CORPORATE OFFICE, AND VISITED WITH SHAWNA, AND RECEIVED THE SAME VERY COURTEOUS TREATMENT. PREVIOUS TO THESE LAST TWO CALLS, ALL OF THE OTHERS WERE NOT EAGER TO HELP THE HARTSELLS! HONESTLY, YOUR COMPANY AND ITS AFFILIATE, DEFENDER, HAS PLACED OUR SECURITY BY LEAVING US UN-DEFEBDED SINCE JUNE 8, UNTIL NOW, JUNE 22, 2011. IT POSES THE QUESTION, IS HOME SECURITY OF ANY VALUE? After your contract ends they will continue to take money out of your account without your permission. I am contacting the Better Business Bureau today. I have called and called these people only to get new phone numbers and the run around. What a complete RIP OFF!!

they have failed to install the system properly after three tries and directly ignored my request to install a cable which resulted in permanent damage to my historical home.

When we were first in talks with a door-to-door contracted sales rep for ADT, we were told the price would be around the $35 dollar range per month. Hours later, the price was somehow raised to around $43 a month. We were assured that these extra charges were unavoidable and we got many different sales-type excuses. The next day, a different Rep showed up at my door with an ADT name tag. He asked about us getting service, and when I told him that we had signed with another ADT person the day before, this 50-year old grown man lost his temper like a 10-year old kid at my front door. He claimed that he had spoken to my wife earlier in the week about getting service from him, and that she declined. This sounded very odd, being that both reps were from ADT, so I called our rep about this second guy. I found out that he used to work there, and was now working for a different home security company, and simply impersonating an ADT Rep by using his old name tag. How's that for scary? After about a 1 ½ years of the service, we hadn't had a single issue that warranted its use. We then decided to find out how much longer we had on our contract. We called and found out, to our great surprise, that the contract was for 3 years!!! We were positive it wasn't for more than 2 years, and are relatively sure it was originally for 1 year, but we have no way to prove any of this, so we knew we were screwed, and would have to pay something. We then called to get prices for what it would be to pay it off, or keep paying every month. We learned that we had to pay out the contract in full, or simply keep paying each month. We elected to keep paying. Today, a letter shows up in the mail telling us that our CONTRACTED RATE is now increasing, but somehow we couldn't do anything to change the contract to benefit us. At this point, we want to be done with the whole thing, so my wife calls to cancel the service, and just pay the lowest amount. She called to see what it would cost to pay off the contract. From the first phone Rep, she was quoted a price of $535, and we could keep our service to the expiration date of the contract. My wife wanted to confer with me when I got home from work, so she had to call back after I talked with her about this option. Upon calling back 15-20 minutes later, another different phone rep told her that the pay off for the contract would be $758!!!! When she tried to explain to the second customer rep, Jonathan Johnson, that she was quoted a different price just minutes before his quote, he told her that she was trying to "cheat the company" and that there was no record of her phone call from 20 minutes earlier. At that point, she asked to speak to a manager, and the second rep told her that she was "fighting an uphill battle," but he would let her speak to a manager stating that "they might be more lenient" than he was. Absolutely unbelievable that this guy has a customer service based job, and that any human would talk to another one like this. My wife is now red-hot mad, and I am certainly not thrilled in any way. The manager gave us the option to pay out the $535, but we now had to CANCEL the service also. Now we are out a boat load of money, and get nothing for it, but it was better than paying almost $300 more to keep paying every month on this scam of a contract. I urge everyone never to sign any contract with ADT, or anyone affiliated with them. It is a scam if I have ever seen one.

I tried to post a response but ADT will not post it. Again, ADT did not live up to their contract by not installing what we were told was installed which is a system directly connected to the Fire Dept as we have animals and that was the only reason for our system in the first place. Our system never responded and we had the service people out many times and they agreed with us that our system could not be connected with the fire department. ADT is harrassing us continuously after hours on the phone with them and correspondence. This has been going on for over a year now. Today, we received a notice that they were going to place us in collections for $986.40. I have called the individual who was transferred from South Carolina to the Atlanta office and he has told me several times he is so sorry about all this and that we are right. We all need to put on the internet our problems with ADT and persue it in a CLASS ACTION suit as Dr. Michele Verdi-Knapp has indicated. This company is a disgrace as agreed with all the negative postings. Let's all get together and post on Twitter, Utube, and all the means we have to estoppel them from fraudulent and unlawful actions.

We had an ADT system installed strickly for communication with the fire dept. for our animals and we were told the system was connected with the fire dept. The guy that installed this system came back out several times and each time said it was not responding. We cancelled this system. I tried to call the guy and he had been transferred to Atlanta and said he would do his best to straighten all of this mess out. Well, one year later I am receiving up to eight to nine calls every day from ADT or some Protection Company and I have told them to "Cease and Dissist" as they are in violation of the FDCPA. But since they are not a third party collection agency, they think they can continue to harrass us but they have another think coming. We will hire an attorney and go after them for non-compliance of contract and tremendous harrassment. Do not, and I repeat, Do not get involved with this scam of a company who redirects everything to a non-performing entity.

I've never seen so many bad writeups in my life. I was just about to order my new system today, but not now. Thanks to all for the info. I'll just keep my Colt closer to me!

If I could give 0 stars that would be my rating for ADT. I have never in my entire life dealt with individuals who do not care about their clients. I actually had a guy tell me that his customers are rarely ever right. Who says that? I am so upset with ADT that I want everyone to know about my experience. No one could tell me why my alarm was sounding every night for 10 nights and waking up my infant. In fact, no one would even consider helping me until I wrote a handwritten letter with the information. I sent an email, I called over and over again, I begged and pleaded for them to help me and no one knew what they were doing. I will make sure no one has to go through this with ADT among friends and family. I will never recommend them to anyone.

About a year ago we spent close to $1200 on a security system installation. Two months after it was installed - we left our home for the afternoon and got a call that our security system was going off. We were 45 minutes away - so rushed home to find two local policeman sitting in our driveway. We entered the home - there was nothing out of place. Happened again - and again, so we quit putting the alarm on. Called ADT - they sent someone out to fix - wanted to charge us for fixed - when it was new and never worked. He supposedly fixed it and two weeks later the same thing - so called again - three months ago - no response - so no security. So disgusted and do not know what to do.

My mouth is open and my jaw has hit the floor! I just finished reading page one and two of the comments made by other ADT customers and it certainly explains why I'm not getting anyway with them. Like many of you I was a long time customer of Brinks Security and received very good service. Once ADT took over, within 4 months they could not account for $208.00 of payments that I sent them through on line banking, (never a problem for Brinks) and they kept telling me, through agent after agent, that they had no record of payment. Finally, they sent me to collections and I came unglued. It took me 7 different phone calls to try to resolve the matter and they could have cared less when I told them my problem. finally, I got through to a woman named Laura who of course sent me to another woman named Carolyn Campbell, I've left two messages on her phone and no call back. They made me pay the bill on my credit card, and once they had the money no one has ever returned my phone call to reimburse me eventhough they have doubled charged me for 4 months. I read some of your responses and I was disappointed to hear you had the runaround from corporate. Maybe some legal advice would help. As with everyone of you, I am not recommending ADT. This could be scandalous

When receiving your brochure, looking up information on line and when the representative came to present your system to me I was very disappointed for the only thing that was stressed that it was used for falls in and outside the house. The representative was friendly but did not present much information. Not until I called ADT and asked the representative multiple questions if the system could be used to get help for medical emergencies and a type of panic button if someone was breaking into the house or trying to harm me did I get some answers. This makes me very untrusting of your company and if you will follow through when help is needed. All this should be give in your brochures and the representatives should present this for the general public do not know questions to ask. Will be monitoring your system and if you follow through with this or I will tell everyone to not deal with your company.

On Jan. 25, 2011 we had ADT installed in our residents, first thing was they made several trips because they didn't get all the documents signed at the time of installation. We had setup a direct withdrawal for our bill, which ADT somehow messed up the information so we told them to bill us directly. All was fine for 3 months until April 28,2011 when we received a notice from ADT Security Services, Inc. that they tried to deduct the bill from our account. We contacted ADT @ the number on the letter (800-662-5378)and was immediately told they could not help us with this, so we asked for a Supervisor. The supervisor gave us a contact person at the Alarm Team (919-773-7802). We then called this number the next day and asked for the contact person. They advised us their was no such person there. The lady on the phone there was rude and would not transfer us to a supervisor (she actually hung up on us). It took an additional 4 times calling this number and being directed back to the ADT operator, before we could get someone willing to help. This is very bad customer service and we seriously are looking into other security options. If they do this with customers trying to resolve issues do we really know we are getting the security and service they are suppose to be provide.

In rrying to decide which company to go with the ADT rep told me about the credit card rebate. After waiting for 3 months to receive the card, I called and was informed by them that I did not qualify for the rebate card. The rebate card was the swing vote for going with ADT. I talked with the manager and it was more like "o well too bad". I have filed a complaint against them with the BBB. I have a 3 year contract so I'm pretty well stuck even though they obtained my acct under fale promises. I will NEVER recommend them to anyone.

we signed a contract with adt two weeks ago. going on three weeks later we still have an alarm instilation that does not work. they sent an instaler who has never put in an alarm, and ten hours one day, and four hour the next we had had it and ask the man to leave. we have talked to the sale rep several times and, and been lied to over and over... I can not find a number for their corperate office. I am so mad.......never in all my life have I seen a business treat customers like this....

I received a sytem with a medical pendant. It has since been lost. I call the customer service department and explained the problem and they told me would send out a replacement. They never did. And then when I called them back they told me I would charged for it. Sorry company, could not recommend them to anybody.

The only communication I get from ADT is a cancellation notice. I wish I could cancel. They are the worst company I have ever used. No phone calls ever returned. Once a week they call because now I owe them money. They call--you answer--all you can hear is please hold, please hold. After a minute or two, someone comes on the line to ask you to send them the money that you do not owe. I tell them the problem--never get it resolved. In August I will be finished with them--contract over. This is going on for almost 6 months. I wrote two letters. No response. They spend millions on advertising. They might just try to keep the customers they have.

I got this service as I am a senior and live alone and we have had some trouble in the area. It was the sorriest day ever that I got thi service. Because they will not let me out of this contract without charging me for the two years all i want is OUT I feel Adt is trying to take my money as I am a senior and don't have that many avenues open to me. From day one the alarm just kept going off by itself when I tried to call to find out I was helped some but bottom line is they want me to pay $49 or $59 for a tech to come out I live on a fix income and think they are just a rip off. I would NOT recommend this service to anyone. All I can say is Shame on you ADT excutives Shame on you.

I moved into a home that had ADT in it and tried to get someone to explain to me how to turn the buzzing noise off on the key pad. Well, if you don't have an account that won't even try to help. After my conversation with the "So-Called" customer service rep there is no way I would ever consider ADT anything!

I transferred my service to a new address TWO YEARS AGO and still receive collections letters for the cancellation of my contract, in the amount of $1200, DESPITE THE FACT I HAVE THE SERVICE IN MY HOME. I have spent COUNTLESS hours attempting to resolve this. This company is a DISGRACE and I feel a class action law suit is in order.
