In September, Midas Muffler in Summit, NJ, installed new brakes. We had originally gone there for an oil change. Our bill was over 1 thousand dollars. After the work, the truck had a grinding noise. We returned it 4 times, but they kept stating that the brakes had to be broken in. This week we took the truck to a local mechanic and he showed us a CV Drive Shaft that was rusted out. Midas had charged us for two CV Drive Shafts, plus labor and tax. The other CV Drive Shaft was fine. I drove the truck to Midas and they yes it was rusted and they would put a new one on. I requested a refund (instead of the new part) for the part and labor that was not done originally, but paid for. They refused to refund us our money. We are taking the truck elsewhere where we know it will be repaired correctly. The only thing we did right, was not to do the additional repairs they suggested.

one year ago 1-25-2011, we had the exaust replaced on our 2004 jeep grand cherokee, on 1-26-2012 the exaust system came off of the rear of the muffler, the rear of the muffler broke with internal pipe and exaust comming out of the inside of the muffler, the cause of this was excessive heat as they welded the pipes to the muffler and used a torch that crystalized the metal on the muffler, this happened on the interstate--I 65 outside of Lafayette Indiana , that is also the place where we had the repairs done, We live in Chalmers In.--In the future could the Midas company send a directive to the shop managers to stop welding the thin exaust pipes to the mufflers, exessive heat and thin metal do not mix---We have a appointment to take our jeep back in one year and one day from the original repair to have it all replaced again, my time and money is limited , this should have lasted for more than one year also the general manager to the area has a attitude, ---thanks for listening, as we may stop using midas alltogethet,----- Gary L. The Factoria Midas, Bellevue WA used to provide honest service until they changed ownership. Recently, I got suspicious about the previous service and went though all my invoices back 10 year, Over the last year they charged me to change the power steering fluid twice. The car has only 65,000 miles on it to date. In January of 2011 they said it was dirty and changed it ($100.+). In December 2011 they said it was dirty and changed it, another $100+. Checking with the Ford dealer, I found it only had to be changed once at about 75,000 miles. Stopped by the Goodyear store, & they found the power steering fluid was dirty so looks to me Midas charged me for service not performed twice. Also in December of 2011 the heater would blow only cold air. They said they needed to flush the radiator and refill it. Within about 3 weeks the radiator began leaking & then they wanted to replace the radiator. Took the car to the Ford people and found the reason the heater was only blowing cold air in the beginning was because the radiator was leaking. Midas knew this or should have known this. Cleaning & refiling the radiator was merely to rip me off. Filed a complaint with the AG's office. The response from the owner; the Ford Dealer was wrong. I seriously doubt that. I'll do business with a Midas franchise when hell freezes over & I win the gold for a triple lutz in the Senior Citizen category.

I took my wife's car to Midas in Lake Worth, FL. for a free oil change and to check the noise in the front brakes. We left the car to go have breakfast instructing the manager Abraham Aponte to call and let us know what the noise was and what it would cost to take care of it. We had previously had new brakes with a lifetime warranty from Midas. After about an hour and half, I still hadn't received a call. We decided to go back to the shop after having had breakfast. When I got there, I was informed that I needed new rotors. I looked at the rotors and they looked fine to me so I asked Abraham Aponte to just replace the pads free of charge since I had a life time warranty. He said he would have to charge me $105 to replace them and that he wouldn't do it without replacing the rotors. I seen I was getting nowhere, so I said I didn't want the new rotors and to just finish the oil change and I would be on my way. Abraham literally yelled at me in front of a shop full of people because I would not let him bully me into paying for something I didn't need! The technician had this condescending attitude as well. My wife was very proud and surprised that I didn't tell him what I thought of him and his rip off auto shop. MIDAS will tell you that things are wrong with your car just to make more money! To finish the story, my wife drove her car home and I drove it after that to make sure it was safe. Guess what, no more brake noise. Amazing what a little Brake Kleen will do! No new rotors needed after all! I saved $228 because I happen to know a little about automobiles! Bottom line: DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR TO MIDAS!!!!!!!!!!! This is not the first bad experience I have had with MIDAS in LAKE WORTH, FL. but I assure you, it will be my last!!!!!!!!

Last night my lady friend called me and said that Midas had discovered a water leak on her '06 Hyundai Elantra while doing a coupon oil change. They informed her that it would cost $388 to repair which sounded a bit high to me to replace an upper and lower radiator hose. So I called them and Andrew, the manager said that the hoses would cost $45 for the lower and $25 for the upper. I said that doesn't sound like $388 worth of work. He said that he 'suggested that while they were woring on the cooling system they might as well replace the thermostat just in case it was bad or might go bad. Duh. I asked for an estimate for the repair and he stated that it would take a couple hours to replace the hoses and the labor would be $86 for a total of $169. He did not mention to me the thermostat, he had only told my friend and her daughter, who owns the car, that the total would be $388 + tax. So my friend called me and told me what was occurring so I called Andrew (I live in Orlando, Fl and my lady friend lives in Bradenton, Fl which is where they were, at the Midas across from her office on the 6000 blk of Manatee Ave.) since I couldn't be there and asked him to explain> he did so and sounded very reasonable about the situation and in general was personable. But there is no doubt that he was shaking down two women who know nothing about vehicles and that really pisses me off, to the extent that I am now writing this complaint which is a first for me. I told him to forgo the thermostat replacement and change the hoses. So the hose replacement and the oil change came to $204 including tax. This morning I called Auto Zone, where most mechanics purchase their parts and asked for a price on the hoses for that particular vehicle. $11.99 for the upper and $21.99 for the lower. That was my price as Charley Consumer and mechanics usually get about a 40% discount. So Andrew not only screwed my friend on parts price but also on labor as it takes about 45 minutes to change both hoses if you are really inept. Essentially what should have been a $20 oil change and at max a $75 hose replacement, if in fact the hoses were actually leaking, turned into a $100 windfall for Andrew's shop. And it would have been more if they had convinced the two women to go for the thermostat replacement as well. Needless to say I will register a complaint with the BBB, although they are pretty much useless in these cases, and with Midas as well, although again, a useless activity. So that is why I am posting this in the hopes that it will be read about any possible customers of Midas. They are franchisees and need to work and make a living I realize but an honest mechanic is hard to find. I know. I was one...

I recently went to midas located on Penn circle in Pittsburgh Pa. I wouldn't even give them one star, but thats the lowest you could go. I took my 2000 Ford expedition there for loss of acceleration. They called me by phone, and told me I needed a fuel pump and starter. The total cost was just shy of $1,200. When I received my vehicle back, the moron that worked there had it in 4hi(only to be used in rough terrain) and didnt know how to correctly take it back to automatic 4wd. Before I even made it out of the parking lot, I noticed it felt as though my truck was going to cut off, and it was shaking pretty bad when i hit the gas. I hopped out, went in, and informed them of this. They said it had a misfire, but it was closing time on a saturday, and to bring it back Monday. My husband and I were waiting before they opened Monday, only to be told they were full and couldnt look at it. We went back 3 times only to be told the same thing. I had to call the corporate office, talk to the district manager, before I could get an appointment. I took my truck back today, and was told the shaking was because the fuel injector wasn't screwed all the way in. They fixed it and the shaking stopped, although they still deny touching the fuel injector. My vehicle wasn't shaking going in to midas, and for $1,200 I didn't expect it to shake coming out. I later found out that my truck could've caught fire. I am not at all pleased with the service I received from midas. And after reading these reviews, I'm surprised they have any business at all. I believe midas are a bunch of ripoffs that fix one thing, but ruin another hoping you will come back. I don't know if theyre trained that way, but it sure seems like it seeing as these reviews are coming from all across the country.

I went into Midas today, Upland California (located on foothill blvd.), to partake in a free oil and filter change w/ "umpteenth" point inspection. I had other choices but chose Midas this beautiful day in California. I dealt with a very stern, nonchalant, sarcastic ***k named Gary, who didn't make me feel welcome at all at the facility. He checks my car and notices the check engine light was on, which I knew about and I told him I have a mechanic with the code reader and Gary says, " Well that just gives you a number, he can't diagnose the problem". I further informed Gary he has the book with the definition of codes and I received a sarcastic "ummm hmmm". They worked on my car and service was done, im happy because I was there for couple of hours, Gary calls me in and says, "The service was done, next to your "laundry list" of things wrong with your car and maybe you can tell that to your mechanic" he sarcastically emphasized. Everything else I could've dealt with...but working the front desk where customers come in and your demeanor switch is flipped to ***hole doesn't go together in my book. YOUR CUSTOMER SERVICE SUCKS, GARY AT MIDAS IN UPLAND,CALIFORNIA!!!! And Midas has yet lost another customer. Watch who you hire Midas.

WOW AFTER READING ALL THE COMMENTS NOW IT SEEMS LIKE WHAT HAPPENED TO ME HAPPENS ALOT. I WASN't THE VICTUM OF MIDAS PERSONALLY I WAS THE VICTUM OF SOMEONE THAT HAD JUST TAKEN THERE VEHICLE TO MIDAS. HE JUST LEFT WELL HIS TIRED FLEW OFF & HIT MY CAR AND CAUSED DAMAGES AND NOW I FEEL LIKE THEY ARE GIVING ME THE RUN AROUND NOT TO FIX IT

OMG Reading all these reports isn't giving me any hope. I was hoping my experience was not the norm for Midas, but seems that it is how most of them do business. On Nov. 19th 2011 my son took his 2000 Mits. Eclipse to the Midas in Englewood, Ohio for a front end alignment within 20 miles of leaving the store his front left tire fell off causing over 2000.00 worth of damages. I talked to the local, district and the corporate {said they would call back within 24 hrs never happened] So I turned them into BBB, this store has had over 170 complaints in the last 3yrs [how are they able to keep their store] I don't know who was acting as the spoke person for Midas on the complaint with the BBB but they were unprofessional and rude. I just can't believe they can get away with such terrible service, isn't there anyone at Midas Corporate Offices that gives a damn about your customers and more importantly their safety?

Took my car for oil change in Sept. or so I thought. A Midas G.E.Capital credit card and almost $500 later I had to get new brakes, and flush the radiator and what else I forgot. My father was a mechanic with a Dr. of Motor degree. I grew up helping and watching him work on cars. Being a woman they see you coming, and balk if you know something about a car. My inspection was due and although I work three jobs I have not any money for large repairs. My car is a 2007 Toyota Matrix. 120,000 miles, just getting broken in. Ironically enough I had just gotten a $1000 ioncrease on the Midas card. More irony was getting the dreaded call to the shop to look at the $1,200 in repairs needed on my car this visit. I told the mechanic at the one Midas when he flushed my radiator not to do a power flush every time this is done I need a new water pump, ( jump forward about 6 weeks and guess what I need?) Also a gasket at the differential was leaking , and clearly this had been going on at the other Midas I went to which didn't do inspections that led me to another one that did. Now I needed rear brakes,( as well as shocks and struts and alignment will have to wait because I did not qualify for any more on the card) I feel the rumors of Midas are true. They always find things wrong with your car when you go. Now two days later my son informs me my left front headlight was out. I noticed having trouble seeing the road driving home from my night job before the inspection. Was one even done? I have my doubts. Other than the leak from the gasket I have my doubts on all that was done. One sure thing is I owe $1,400 I do not have and still am faced with more work to be done I have no money for. Do people go to the Better Business Bureau and report this? How do they get away with it?

I recently took my truck in to Midas on Dave Ward Conway Ar and the truck had a fuel injection Problem They worked on it for 3 days and when I picked it up They said it was running better but it wasnt fixed and charged me $257 Butch the manager said he was doing me a favor, I just had the truck fixed by someone else gee $457 and the truck runs fine What a ripoff, and as a Military retiree moneys tight guess I need to call headqarter and complain, Midas just sucks period SFC(Ret) USA Sherman

I was going to buy into a Midas Franchise until I heard so many complaints against Midas. I have probably read one good comment about Midas out of every 10 comments on the internet. And then I heard about the Australian Franchises that went bad. And that Midas would not back them up. The Franchisees sued Midas and won a 25 million dollar law suit. That scared the heck out of me. Midas charges a lot to a Franchisee. The Franchisee has to pay rent, labor, taxes, local advertising, a franchise fee, royalties to Midas etc...etc... I don't see how a Franchisee with Midas can compete. Some do very well. By looking at this thread you would almost have to ask yourself how does Midas even stay in business. Midas isn't the only Auto shop that is crooked. Many family shops are bad to, a lot of times the customer just doesn't realize it. But I believe you can run a shop honest as long as you are honest with the customer, that customer will come back again and again if you run an honest shop.

I brought my 2000 Ford wagon to the Midas service center at 3424Plainfield in Grand Rapids for some brake work. The estimate I was given was for $612.00 for replacing pads, rotors, and calipers. I had a coupon for $99.99 for Limited Guarenteed Brake Pads or Shoes installed per axle most vehicles. Additional parts and "labour" extra. I was informed the coupon only applied to pads and that it isn't for a complete brake job. I complained to Midas Headquarters. The Customer Service Representive brought the add up on the internet and agreed with me that the way it's written she believed $99.99 should be taken off. She was going to notify the area manager. I later received a call from the local Midas shop. They stated they were instructed to rewrite the work order accept the coupon for the pads and the new bill was 609.00 dollars. I will never recommend Midas to anyone. In fact I will be notifying the Michigan State Attorney General's Office.

always a fight about what didn't get done the first time and now all of a sudden it is a issue, this is my last time going there. I will walk across the street and use the other guys from now on. I can't believe there are this many complaints on this page and many more on the web. Midas should fall off the face of the earth.

Midas at 2602 Williams Blvd SW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52404 EXCESSIVELY OVERCHARGED ME ON PARTS AND LABOR when compared to all other automotive shops in the area. Battery: $170 vs $90-99 at nearby locations Labor: $65 for a 5 min. battery install vs ZERO at other locations!! You'll NEVER see my business again, and I intend to followup this complaint by notifying the Better Business Bureau of Iowa.

The Midas on 4th Street in Downtown St. Louis the manager is horrible. I will never do business there again and I told him that, and in front of a customer he said Good thanks for letting me know. This Midas has a drop off pick ip service. I work 5 min or less away. I asked to be picked up at 5:00 pm, but was not picked up until 5:25. I called and was upset that it was taking so long I had another appointment in the area at 5:30, the manager clearly said "don't call here with an attitude the drive is outside where he dropped you off and has been sitting there for awhile" when I said I had been standing at the door since 5 to 5 and no one is parked outside that is when he said what he said. The driver actually went to the Bank before coming to pick me up.

I was at the Midas in tulsa ok. they replaced the serpentine belt on my chevy malibu. they gave my car back to me and told me everything is good now. I am driving down the street and my air conditioning doesn't work. I call them and they told me to bring it back and they will look at it. they call me and say that the clutch on the air conditioning compressor broke when the serpentine belt froze on the engine and that it is pulling on the serpentine belt and will cause the belt to break again if I dont pay them $300.00 to replace the clutch with a bypass clutch to quit pulling on the belt. I asked them why they didnt tell me this when the belt broke the first time and he shrugged his shoulders, threw up his hands and said, "I cant see everything thats wrong" im thinking really? thats not what the commercial says. i also paid them to do an oil change and top off the fluids. i asked him if they topped off the fluids and he said yes, they did that when they changed the serpentine belt. I told him i was going to check and he went back to the car and started topping off the fluids. Midas is a rip off bunch of lazy liars that only care about themselves and put on a good commercial of lies. i bet they didnt even rotate my tires like they were supposed to.

It is October 31, 2011 1031am right now in GlenBurnie, MD and I am at the Midas on Ritchie Hwy. I brought my 1995 SAAB in for an oil change. My car was running absolutely fine. After I pay the bill of $31.00, I'm waiting for them to pull my car out so I can go and get ready for work. They called me into the bay area and tell me that my car is not drivable because of some bolts that had snapped off an engine part. They tell me it will cost me about $300 to $400 dollars to repair and that they didn't touch anything else. When they do your "courtesy check" whose to say that they aren't sabotaging your vehicle to ensure they make money off you? A simple oil change now costs you hundreds of dollars!!!!!.......WTF!!!!!. They obviously have a high turn over rate for mechanics because there is always a different one everytime I come here which isn't very often. The problem is you don't know what the hell they're doing to your vehicle because its in the bay where you're not authorized to be in while they work on your vehicle. I am never bringing my vehicle to a MIDAS again and I'm going to recommended the same to my family and everyone else I know. I'm still going to call the corporate Office to inform them of my experience here, but I already feel that they will deny any wrong doing. I will let you know what they say when I speak to someone.....I'm extremely frustrated!

Midas at 918 New Britain Ave of West Hartford CT..I had replace the Air mass sensor, oxygen sensor, Catalytic Converter and Manifold Converter because Midas had advise me the reason why my car wasn't turning on is properly because the masflow sensor, both converter and the oxygen sensor are bad. I already paid almost $2,000 in Midas to fix the problem and now my vehicle is not turning on and they can't seem to find out what's wrong. My vehicle been in Midas several times and I drop it off again on Oct 17, 2011 and is still sitting in their parking lot and nothing is being done about it, my brother went to check on the vehicle and he was adv Midas that whatever the vehicle have has nothing to do with them because the car was like that from the beginning..Again I already paid almost $2,000 to fix this problem and the problem is not fix am tired of them giving me the running around telling me they working on it.

10 19 2011 Absolute fraud, and I have the pictures to prove it. I am an industrial mechanic and do the majority of our vehicle repairs, I just did not have time to perform the work myself. We took the vehicle to Midas @ 1599 Long Pond Road, Rochester NY, 14626. They provided us with a list of repairs needed to pass inspection. They listed parts that were not defective, and were in fact almost new. Attached are pictures of parts that they claimed to be defective, which show without question, that they are not defective. This is not a question of misinterpretation, but attempted fraud. Midas stated that to pass inspection:The front wheel bearing needed to be replace. We knew that and that is not an issue. They also stated, in writing,Needs new front brakes, new rotors, caliper service, wiper blades are sliced, needs new cap, rotor, and plugs. I had Marci get the vehicle out of there, and do not have them perform any repairs.Vehicle had new cap, rotors, and plugs,a nd Bosch wiper blades less than 4,000 miles ago. Blades are still almost new, not sliced, and do not streak. Brake pads measure 10/32" out of 13/32" new, Rotors are smooth, not scored, are not warped, and mic out over minimum legal tolerance. Calipers do not drag, do not need servicing. Also, they sprayed oil under the car so that it would drip down onto driveway. I inspected and oil did not come from any defect with vehicle, was applied from underneath. I am filing form VS35 with NYDMV against Midas. This was a blatent attempt at fraud agains a woman.
