If I could give massage Envy a 0 for no stars I would. I was a member for a year which I knew was required in order to cancel my contract, In March of 2011 I asked the phone tech or whatever her position was to cancel my contract and she said OK. I then thought everything was OK... Wrong Massage Envy waited 4 months & then hit my account for $196, when I called them and tried to get a refund all I got was your account was in a suspended state well then why in hell would you hit me for 4 months payments. and never even bother to call me she in turn says we were calling you every month, which is a lie because I have not received a call from them past me calling them in March. I told her that I will pull up my last 4 months phone bills to prove it because I also have you-mail on my phone which is the best thing since sliced cheese because even if my phone doesn't ring because I have it turn off, it still tin touch with corporate to get my $196 refunded because if not i will start posting the real deal about how the massage therapist & not me are i the back having sex with tier clients and I know this because of a therapist that used to work their who quit and went to another spa because she didn't want to be apart. And lastly they have the nerve to have a bogus number listed up at the top for corporate. Kim Moon
Tried to cancel my membership form because I am moving to europe and they needed proof of move or they wouldnt cancel it. I will never again use this company for a massage. Horrible customer service and they are very unprofessional. Notice how there corporate number doesnt even work. I run my own buisness and I would never run it like this.
I purchased a one year membership to Massage Envy in Overland Park, KS. I had hoped massages along with physical therapy would help my frozen shoulder which was a result of shattering my wrist and having had my arm locked into position for 9 weeks. After 2 massages, I realized that I had "jumped the gun" and that my arm needed the therapy but the massages were not helping. I paid for at least 3 months without getting the service. I asked and was granted a 3 month freeze on my account. During that 3 months, I developed shingles on the sise of my surgery for my wrist. I again asked for a freeze on my account and was granted 6 months. It has always been my hope that I could do the massages but my doctor tells me, he would prefer that I not get them. I still have 5 massages coming, and I was told I needed to get a doctor's note saying I can not get the massages. I agreed to do that. My daughter has been a customer of Massage Envy for over a year. I asked if she could use the 5 massages, and I was told the manager would allow my daughter to have only 2 of the massages even though I would be paying for 5. That is not the solution to my situation and what I am asking for is the 5 massages for my daughter. I have already written your feedback option on your website asking to be contacted. But I have not been contacted. I'm sorry it has come to this but customer service is very important to any company, and I would like to believe there is someone in your company who can help me. My daughter will not renew her membership so you have lost 2 customers. The way you are handling this is not good marketing or customer service. Linda Carlsen
Massage Envy employs very scam-like business practices. I bought a 3-massage package for my wife prior to Mother's day. Turns out, I actually bought a 3-month membership that can't be cancelled or returned after 3 business days. The owner of the 4 Massage Envy's in the Western Washington, Rick Davis, tells me that he is prohibited from rebating a client due to the "franchise agreement" and was quite happy to forward me to their Corp. office to "read it myself". The end result is that Massage Envy refused to return the credit charge I made and essentially told me to "pound sand". Totally a scammy operation - I will never do business with them again and will tell all my friends. Ken G.
My experience at the Massage Envy was positive until I needed to cancel my membership. Over the past 15 months I received quality massages, please know my complaint is with the Encinitas managers, Joanna, Tina, District Manager Brandy ( never called back)and corporate for not responding too. When I cancelled the person at the front desk told me there would be one more $59 payment and then it would be cancelled. I asked about remaining credits she told me I had until the end of May to use remaining credits. I made an appointment and was called back to let me know there were no remaining credits, they expired May 3rd. not the end of May. They could fax me the copy signed. I don't wear my contacts for massages and relied on the front desk person to give me correct information. Since, I've been told by Joanna(Manager) in a nice way, I'm lying. They have notes on a phone call made by Tina, also the front desk person would not tell me about having the entire month to use the credits. I'm amazed on how many negative consumer complaints they have received. I enjoyed the massages but customer service by their managers and corporate office are not a strength. An attorney in Ca. has informed me that I'm entitiled for something I paid for and it's illegal to say they have an expiration date. This person was not my legal counsel but will pursue this matter further. Only want what I paid for, it was less than 2 weeks later they wouldn't change their mind. Actually they would, if I was willing to sign up for another year, otherwise credits have no way to be activiated. Simialar to others, they would not give out corporate number, unbelievable!! Asked for franchisee number for Encinitas, would not give that out because they own other locations too. Don't be fooled by friendly voices, doing what's right and common sense is not valued by Massage Envy.
Barry - I will email you - hope your email is current. My attorney - when they burned my back so badly I was hospitalized and treated, and the manager said all she could do was...(and she quoted the cancellation policy), and they will not refund my money even though my year had passed, and I want out without losing all that money that they kept taking out!
My girlfriend and I took advantage of a massage special which was great...however as we were leaving, the receptionist was pushing to sign up for the their wellness membership..thinking it was a good deal, we did... WELL, 3 phone calls later because they failed to correct the payment request made by me.. i specifically told them to cancel all debit cards and gave them a new card for both accounts to be charged.. of course, this didn't happen and according to DE state law, unlawful use a credit card is a class G felony; class A misdemeanor.. yea, i thought this was the of my saga.. after having this issue for the first 3 months of our membership, i faxed them a notice of membership cancellation. so, what happens, the manager calls me a few days later saying we couldn't cancel the membership because we weren't members for a full 12 months!!! the contract that we signed said nothing of that therefore making their contract fraudulent. the receptionist said nothing of us having to be members for 12 months before we could cancel because if anyone knew that, why would you sign up? I asked if we could cancel at any time and she said yes........again, DE state law says, deceptive business practives; class A misdemeanor. anyway, massage envy is the worst place ever.. they preach about a relaxed environment however, over the past 3 months they created more stress. i tell everyone to save your money because they're not worth it, even if they have a "special offer."
CONTRACTS..... they're fraudulent.. maybe YOU should read it because when I had the manager read it, she agreed to me that their staff made a mistake.. AND how can their manager say i have to be a member for 12 months before i can cancel while their CONTRACT NEVER STATED IT.. when I said I was going to sue them, they all of the sudden cancelled my membership knowing their were wrong.. their business ethic is horrible and they constantly take advantage of people.. don't you think it's weird that soooooo many people complain about the same company, i.e. massage envy but in all the states they're located.. you say there's satisfied costumers...ha, where? costumer service - is the worst.. when i was there, it was awkward, you have 4 people sitting in chairs staring at you while 1 is actually "helping" you.. after i called 3 times, they couldn't get my billing information correct.. how hard is that? massage envy is the main stream massage company, their typical coporate crap takes advantage of people and id like to see these company go bankrupt..
To whoever wrote "LOVE Massage Envy! NOT! and claims it was someone from corporate. It was not, it was me! I do not work for corporate, I am a normal HAPPY massage envy member. You are not certified to make the claim that it was someone from corporate, get over yourself and stop making false accusations. By the way, I bought my mom a 3 month gift membership and on the CONTRACT she signed, it said she must use the massages within certain dates or she would lose them. Dont blame the front desk for you lack of reading. Maybe you should start reading CONTRACTS you sign.
I have been a massage therapist at ME for the past month. I do enjoy working there as there is not really any stress, unless business is slow. I don't have experience being a client with them but as an employee in the location I work at, there does not seem to be anymore issues than you see at any other business. I am not saying that the issues I read above are right, I am sure for the most part your complaints are worthy. Although, you cannot always blame the girls that work at the front, they are most likely doing what they are told. If I owned a ME I would never let my customers be that unhappy and would resolve the issues immediately. I cannot understand why some of these managers are behaving in these unprofessional manners and it is disheartening to read these complaints for a company you work for...but that is what you get when you deal with franchises unfortunately. As to cancelling your contracts and still being charged, I really don't think that that is the cause of the part time girls that work at the front. Remember you also SIGNED A CONTRACT, if you are unhappy about something, don't start acting irate immediately because that won't get you anywhere. Ask to speak with the person in charge and quietly explain your complaint and I am sure it can be resolved according to the company guidelines. Remember to always read ANY contract you sign in any situation. In regards to the person complaining that the massage was only 45-50 minutes...That is how it is wherever you go and is an industry standard, most people know this. Your massage should be 50 minutes with ten minutes in between for the client to get dressed, the therapist has to change the sheets and get the next client on the table and start the next massage. And if your massages are truly 40-45 minutes make sure you are getting there ON TIME! If you are late 10 minutes, you lose that ten minutes because the therapist has appointments after you...the next client should not have to wait because you were late for your appointment. And the rooms are cold because we have to massage for hours and it is extremely physical work, as an LMT if you are hot and dehydrated you are not going to receive the best massage possible from the therapist. The therapist should ask if you want the table warmer on or offer additional blankets. I feel bad for the people receiving bad massages as I to have had the same problem. You just need to ask the front and maybe other members who they feel is good for what you want and I am sure you will find a good therapist. P.S. If you Google any company, you will find forums like this bashing the company and how bad the service is and so on...A good thing to know is that in life, you just CANNOT please everybody! There will always be a small group/small % of people that have to complain about anything and everything, but we must remember that these people are the minority not the majority.
Wow, so im not the only one? My first month was great and then I could never get in, whenever I was able to book an appointment the massage was terrible. I complained time and time again and no o.e lisened. The girl at the front desk was rude and just didnt care. I just stopped going. I ended up paying for a year of massages that I didnt use because of the hassle. In May I finally thought I was free of them due to my contract being up and still got charged! Apprently, after your 1 year mrmbership is up you have to sign a termination form. So, they got me again. These people are crooks.
Obviously the comment titled LOVE Massage Envy was written by a corporate member of Massage Envy. Here is their Corporate tlelphone number 480-366-4100. Here is Richard Adams, Director of Field Operations, telephone number 480-366-4103, at Massage Envy. I was a client at the Timonium Maryland office. Never again. The owners Nancy and Barry Boone are absentee owners. The manager is afraid of and will not speak with clients. I was wary of the full court press sales presure the staff gave me at my first visit. My satisfaction was not their concern. They wanted money. I did a few walk in visits and paid the non member rate. The massages were okay, but not great. I eventualy bought a 3 month membership for myself and girl friend that would provide six massages. Whe had one massage each, and 4 remaining massges. When I tried to book two more massages I was given a date outside of my contract and was not advised as such. We arrived for our massages. When we finished and tried to book our next massage we were told that I has only purchased a total of 4 massages and there would be an extra charge. Then the staff demanded full non membership payment of the massage we just recieved becuase we were 2 days out of contract. If that was not enough, then the front desk team tried to up sell me into a long term contract. So, I told them to go pound sand. I paid for six massages and got to use 4 and they tried to make me pay for two of the massages twice. I refused to pay for the massages they claimed were not part of my contract. The manager would not speak with me and left her office through the back door. I felt like I was dealing with children, which I was. This place is not customer friendly, however they do value your money, but not your satisfaction.
I love being part of a strong minded, well educated team of caring and inspirational co workers. During breaks we discuss situations of clients needs and will research possible causes and solutions...that is why I stay an employee...but...we work very hard performing deep tissue and sports massages with pay one third I have ever made...our bodies ache and most of us cannot afford medical insurance which is weakening us...some of us have broken down due to lack of medical assistance...this is a large corporation...please help us keep strong for you! Express your concern to management....we love caring for all of you....help us be able to continue your treatments....._
This company is going to go down? Im pretty sure there are two pages of complaints and thousands and thousands of members who are perfectly satisfied with their massages their therapists and the front desk. Not to mention the people who started massage envy were on the secret millionaire. Its also proven massage envy is the 4th biggest and fastest growing franchise in America, so i highly doubt this company will go down. And "bad karma" people this gives you a 1 hour massage a month for 49 bucks! Normal massages are hundreds of dollars... there are 30 somethin therapists at each clinic if you dont like one massage try someone els. and ps if you cant afford a 49 dollar massage dont sign the contract that says you will pay it monthly? We dont force your hand to sign the paper! lol massage envy put me through college and i love them. I have watched massage envy help cancer patients, people with fibormialga, people who are stressed and going threw hard times. 99% of the time I see happy faces walk out the door. Makes my day! Sry to you people with bad experiences no one is perfect. BUT they are not a crooked franchise! thx ;)
plz delete the previous comment from tempe marketplace...wrong clinic i apologize
PLEASE READ: This rating is not for my therapist, Tracy, who I would give 5 stars to. This is for the company. I received an introductory massage, which was more than satisfactory, for $39 (I had a coupon). I was asked about joining the Club but wasn't told anything about what the massages would cost thereafter if I did not join. I booked another appointment with Tracy, expecting to pay $59 because I thought that was what the going rate was. I was shocked when I showed up to find that I would be charged $98 because I had not joined the Club. No one told me any of this when I was in (La Verne). I KNOW I would have remembered being told I would have to pay $98 for massages. Very poor business practice. Left and felt bad about leaving her with an hour to fill.
I live in wood bridge Virginia and today I made a visit to the location nearest me in wood bridge-Lakeridge. Their offices appeared clean and neat and there weaned to be a shortage of staff so I had to wait for half an hour. They automatically assigned me to a male masseur without asking my preference. When Joe arrived he led me to a small room very non descriptor with a massage bed and an anatomical chart on the wall and asked me to get undressed and get under the sheets and blankets. The room was colder than the sitting area and the bed although attached to a thermostat had not been heated in preparation for the session. I slid into the cold bed and waited his return. He began the session by moving my neck into two different positions and moved to my arms there after. He applied a lotion and within minutes I had broken into a severe rash that burned and itched ferociously. I have never had an allergic redaction in my entire 47 years and this was the first. He had now progressed to my legs but he could tell that something was wrong and he ran to get to get some wet towels to wash me off. He told me that many people seem to react to the lotion but nit the cream tonight my Internet search shows that massage envy has had a dearth of complaints about reactions to the lotion but they continue to use this product regardless. Most of my session was spent diagnosing my reaction and washing off and the few minutes that I got lacked any skill or repertoire of massage techniques.our session ended abruptly and they wanted to sell me a membership after the fiasco when perhaps what they owed me was a real session. It is evident by all the complaints online tat this is nit a company that cares enough to respond nor do they realize that each added complaint that is not rectified and remains for others to see is an approach to the end of the road.
I work for Massage Envy in Scottsdale. Even though I have only been there for 8 weeks, I can say that I am shocked at what the owner of this franchise allows. For her it is only about money. Sell a Wellness Program, and Murad product and you get your commission. That's OK, but what is not OK is the pressure that you will be fired if you don't meet your percentage quota. I can appreciate having to put forth effort to sell, but when the MANAGER looks the other way while the "cancellation manager" falsifies records by changing new prospects names (if she doesn't sell), writing up Wellness Program contracts while making an appointment for a new customer even before they've had their appointment, entering the sell, and oh, did I mention she's the "cancellation manager", so she can cancel with an excuse and no questions asked and STILL make her percentage high. I have caught her changing names in the system, I have caught her trying to back out of an issue when she was caught by a therapist who asked about their last client (the name had been changed right as they walked out the door). Not to mention this practice is done by a few of the Sales Associates. The owner is being ripped off, but she's so set on selling she's not looking at the bottom line. If she'd really look at her books she'd see she's not making as much as she thinks. The owner as I've said has only one thing in sight, was there a sell. You can't run a business by ruling with fear it will result in what I've described above. I'm a really great catch for an employer and I am appalled by what's going on. I'm not sure how long I will stay with them I don't want to get caught up in all that's been going on. I don't want my reputation ruined by a ignorant owner and silly employees.
Massage Envy hires certified bodyworkers and promotes them as Licenced Therapists. I worked for Massage Envy for 2 1/2 years with no licence or insurance, it was never an issue of obtaining the national board or insurance for that matter. All the while Managment knew of not only myself but more then half of their staff had past theit "grace period"... I think its wrong and false advertisement bc folks are paying for Professionals and they could have went to the mall and paid 5bucks for the samething... Massage Envy is a joke.
I am very un happy with the massage envy in El Paso, Tx on Joe Battle. I sent my husband in for the $49.00 1 hour massage and in the brochure it states you can add on a facial for $10. 00 dollars more. We were charged $105 dollars. The manger told us that the facial was an additional $59.00. When asked how could this be, even after showing her the brochure she stated it was a misprint. And she would not give us a number to her district manager. I thought I was doing a good thing for my husband before he leaves for deployment and I was ripped off !!!!!
