Well, here in Lewisville, TX, the steak'n'shake recently turned into a 24hr establishment, and so I was hired for 3rd shift, and im currently an employee there, however, i just got my second paycheck, and I was told that during third shift I would be paid 7.25 an hour +keep my tips from serving over night. I put in a 36hr week, just checked my bank account.... $113..... You do the math.
I got a job at the Steakn Shake in Countryside Fla. The management is rude and the training sucked. They never put me on the computer but threw me on the floor on a sat (busy busy) .The trainer let me take care of all of her tables. Than while i was boggeled in a rush Terry (the manager) told me Bye. They did not train me well at all.Plus all the roaches in the break room it is discusting.I am suppose to go in and talk to Terry but I am calling corporate today and tell theme what shity training they have. And my freinds eat there all the time I will let everyone know how discusting and rude this company is.
I have to tell you that I have tried for probably one year on and off (in Streetsboro, OH) to get a good bowl of chili from this place. If chili comes in a can and they what "add water"... I've had warm brown water with beans, I've had warm brown water with a ton of beans. I'd just like to have a good bowl of chili. I'm guessing it's time I stop trying to get it at Steak N Shake. It's even more disappointing that you can't reach anyone at the company via email / website to express an issue, that they could potentially correct. It's a shame that running a business this way is obviously "acceptable". I know I'm done... I don't care if they shut the place down!
Steak n shake is the complete opisite of family oriented. Its all about the money and never about the people who make them that money. I know servers there who make more than the managers! This company has amature above store leaders trying to make the company make money. Steak n shake will lose more managers in 2011 then raises they will give. Garenteed or your money back.

I am a former waitress with Steak n Shake in Apopka Florida working since 2006. I had to resign due to my back problems and surgery, but i have to say it was a pressure working for everyone there. Steak n Shake takes care of their employees, a great place to work, and customer care and cleanness is very important to Steak n Shake. Shirley Lay
In fort worth, tx on overton ridge is the most unorganized store. I waited 55 minutes for our order but the service person said they were behind in the kitchen. This is not the first time this has happen but it will be the last and I will tell everyone I know. I really enjoy there hamburgers but looks like I will have to go down the street
I worked at mt Zion steak n shake Ive never had so many problems with a manager ever as I did their. Michael Graham was rude to me constantly even when I was working extremely hard for him. I also had an accident their where I fell busted face open. Came back to work and all he could say to me was that HE BETTER NOT GET ANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT MY FACE!!!!! HES A JERK LOL
I am a former employee of sns in Kannapolis,NC. I have been informed that I must find my paycheck information online. I don't have viable access to the internet and can not get a represenative to assist me.
I went into Steak and Shake in Casselberry FL in the middleof the morning. There is this waitress/manager or whatever there named Sandra. I hate it when I see her. She makes snarky and rude comments about other waitresses and customers. How rude! She is so caught up in doing this that she doesn't give decent service and talks to all of us like we are infants!
I went into a steak n shake for happy hour at 3 a.m this morning. It was right after the premier of Harry Potter so it was quite busy. However there were only 2 employees working at this steak n shake. It took the waitress 20 minutes just to seat us because she was in the kitchen the whole time. By the time we ordered only our shakes and recieved them it was 3:55 am. We finished our drinks and went to pay. We did not receive the happy hour discount because it was 4:07 and happy hour had ended. I did not appriciate this service
I worked for stake n shake for 2&1/2 yrs for the snellville store, the new GM mang. Larry treated me very badly from the first time he started. He turned our store into a playground for his pervirted lust for young girls, i felt because i wasn't a 16 yr old little girl he was very mean to me! after working there for so long he started pushing me around on the schedule he finally pushed me out. This was the worst case of descrimination their is, after reporting him to corp. office and confiding in the district mang. i was taken off the schedule and forced out, now im without a job and dont have any money to hire a attorney. This is the way stake n shake does business.
The Steak and Shake in Ellisville Missouri has really improved. The customer service is 100% better than it has ever been. They are really going out of the way to be friendly and please the customer. We go there pretty regularly for the past 15 years and it is the best it has ever been.
I was eating lunch at steak and shake in portage. My daughter had my wallet and had dropped my bank card out. Not knowing I forgot it there I called to see if it was there a lady manager told me it would be in the safe. So I totally forgot about it then I had checked my bank statement recently and the card that had been at steak and shake was being used there. I immediately called to see if they had my card and they said no. So I made a police report and filed papers with my bank. But i wanted to know how it got out of the safe into an employees hands if only managers have the code or key to the safe. I think its ridiculous that nothing is being done about this and I most definitely will not bring my service back.
I have visited the steak n Shake in Tallahassee Florida a few times the food is always pretty good the only complaint I have is the service to customers is the worst I have ever seen. Some people go there for lunch and they ether have 30 mins or an hour ether way it takes way to long to get your food. Its has take as long as 40 mins to get food this is not good customer service. I also noticed that when people come in to eat and wait to be seated it takes way to long for someone to seat them and I notice the servers see these people standing there but no one makes the move fast enough and it does not appear that they are that busy that someone could not seat them. I am sure this website is just like all the rest that passing on a complaint and nothing is ever done.
I am writing in reference to your Steak n Shake in Gastonia NC - WHAT A JOKE!!! Very racial biased individuals that work there. Sorry I am not the correct color! Heard manager using very foul language in front of customers. No wonder business is bad. Not many in there when I was there. Food is usually good but as I said unless you are the correct color, forget good service! Will never go back and will never recommend to anyone. Unless you want this office to close, you better come take a look (unannounced)!! I am not surprised that you have not been taken to court!
My daughter applied for a position with Steak and Shake, given an orientation date, told to get black pants, black shoes (non-slip), black socks and a white button down shirts. Now they did not tell her that it had to be a special shirt, made with a certain type of collar. However, when she reported for orientation, she was turned away because her shirt was not the correct one. If Steak and Shake requires a certain type of shirt, pants, etc. They should provide the employee with information on where to purchase these items, or provide them so that they can be purchased from the company. This was a very discouraging experience for a teen trying to make a good impression, getting everything she was told to get only to find out that she could not attend orientation because the shirt was incorrect. In addition, she was not given information on where to purchase the shirt, or even shown the type of shirt it should be. She is assuming that the collar on her shirt was the problem. The CEO of Steak and Shake needs to visit the St. Louis facilities (Undercover Boss).
We had lunch at Jensen Beach Steak & Shake on Saturday 09/18/10. While we were eating a middle aged man server was carrying a tray of food when he slipped and fell flat on the floor next to us. We jumped up to help him and he was not injured, but shaken and more upset with the soap on the floor that he slipped on. There was an older woman server mopping close by. He asked us if we were ok, and left to take care of the floor. He returned, and started to clean the broken glass and soda off the floor. Next thin we heard his supervisor a dark haired lady screaming at him sayin "I don't care... you have to look out for eachother". We heard him reply something softly back to her and she repeated. "That's not my problem you fell you must check on each other to do their work."..or something like that. Well we just quietly continued eating and left. It seems she was a manager trying to pass the buck on her waiters. We waited more than 20 to 30 minutes for our food and so did all the other tables. There was such tension in the air. Don't managers have to deal with waiters that fall and give some help instead of being in the back and shouthing orders? We wont go back.
My daughter works at Steak and Shake and it has been a horrible experience. Her manager is young and is a prime example of what a little power can do to a person. My daughter never gets her schedule until the Monday of the week . The manager consistently messes up the schedule. The manager has been rude almost beyond reason. My daughter dresses the burgers and put the wrong condiments on an order and the manager was screaming at her that she must be retarded. I have never heard of such disgusting behavior. First to scream at an employee and then in such a base manner. I feel sorry for any handicapped person that strays into this restaurant. When she was hired she was told never to bring her purse into the employee room. She hasn't, however she had money it her coat pocket and was robbed. Steak and Shake pays their employees with a debit card system. My daughter was never getting her card and this manager couldn't be bothered. Finally after weeks, the manager told my daughter to call the corporate office herself and take care of it. The corporate office gave her the run around and put her finally in touch with payroll. Payroll said the card was sent her store and has been in use. My daughter never got the card. The manager was supposed to give the card to my daughter but she never got it. It had been stolen. My daughter had to fill out forms for the company reporting the theft. It has been over 3 months and she still has not gotten her back pay. She did get a W2 form and is expected to pay taxes on money she never got. The corporate office now claims that it is out of their hands and that she should speak to the payroll company that handles this debit card system. This is ridiculous. Our patience is wearing thin. Office of Labor here we come.
