Hello my name is LaWan.I live the D.C. area, which I once was pride to say we finally got a marshalls. However the policies in the store are totally different than the surrounding areas.Such as the Wheaton and Rockville surburbs.Any thing the community there want or like to put in the lay/away is a go.I was wondering if it was due to the amount of Africian Americians in my neighborhood opposing to the uppity neighbors? Just asking.I dont think Marshalls deserve my money or business.

I was shopping in your Ft. Lauderdale store one December 27, 2011. I was in the dressing room when I went to close the door and the door closed so hard and snapped back to the latch catching my finger. All the doors in the dressing room closed very hard with a loud band. My finger was cut and bleeding and I went to customer service. They put on some antibiotice spray and bandaged the cut and asked if I wanted to go to hospital. I said no. My finger is still sore but I THINK it is getting better. Still very sensitive. What annoyed me the most was the fact that I asked if I would be compensated in any way that day for my finger. I was told they do not do that and she could "give me a big hug". I feel that Marshalls should have been more considerate to me then just a hug. I have shopped Marshalls many times but very disappointed in the management decision. I don't know if I can shop in a store who can't even accommodate their customers. Sincerely, Ann Marie P.S. My information is at the Marshalls store in Ft. Lauderdale. Thank you.
I went into the Marshalls located at 5302 Keystone Avenue Indianapolis,In and purchased some last minute stocking stuffers. There was a display with a sign that read gifts for $10 and on that display was an entire stock of Michael Kros hat&scarf sets, so when I checked out at the register they would not honor me that price. I thought a business is supposed to honor the price then correct the mistake all they did was told me no sorry and then removed the items from the display.....bad business the Carmel location is the best they keep there store neat and clean and organized
I have been shopping for the last 14 years at the Marshalls in Fayetteville, GA. Until now I have just accepted the lack of their workers capabilities and slow service. Today was the end of it all. I was returning an item and I knew that I did not have the receipt and knew I was to receive store credit. That was fine. The tag was still attached to the item and I was told that it would be $20 less. Now if I was asking for cash I would have understood. I would have probably been ok with that expect that I told stupid excuses. Number 1: This tag is not from here when it stated it was. Number 2: I was told it did not come from there because of the color of tag. Do you really think I have the items at home to tamper with them. Not hardly. I told the store manager that I thought it was sad that Marshalls does not except any Marshalls products for returns. I was rudely responded to with: "I got your number lady." I am sorry, but upset or not I did not deserve to be threatened. In this economy I thought having business was important. Why should I go back if I can shop at Kohls and Target and have no problem returning an item without a receipt and would not be talked to in such a manner. I have worked retail and I know things get tense this time of year but customers do not like being treated like they are purposely trying to rip them off and act like they are trying to return an item that wasn't bought at that store. I was told to grin and bear the customers, treat them with respect, and do the complaining in the back room. I bought the item at that store and am insulted that I was thought of as a thief. If Marshalls and TJMaxx want to complete in today's economy they may want to think of updating their return system. Manager training may also be needed.
I work at Marshall's and they are one of the nastiest companies I have ever worked for. They don't care about their employees. they have favoritism. They hire certain ethnic groups because the district manager said that there was too many of us here. So in order to hire the other ethnic group they cut our hrs to hire them. Customers are very upset with this because they can't get service from the other ethnic group because they don't know anything and they can't answer their questions nor are they understandable. It is a shame when a company, a district manager makes a statement like that and forces their managers to follow through.
I agree with the employee in Ny. I work in the one in Catonsville, Md. Management is a straight up joke. They do not care how they talk to you. I got hurt on the job and they will not pay me for missed time or nothing. I do not get any help unless there is a visit. Everytime you turn around a different store manager is there and the store keeps getting rearranged. I have to do the bulk of it by myself. This is what I do, help unload the truck, fill the carts, pull the carts to the floor, empty the carts, display, merchandiser, help cutomers, run zbars, run Homes, domestics, and alot of the times Toys as well, cashier. I do all this with little to no help. Most of the time it is with no help. I keep asking for help and I am always told that Homes is a one person dept. Really!!! I am not just doing Homes either. All other depts have help upon help. When they claim someone is coming in to help in Homes, they end up on the register. They come in and maybe do one half of a cart, but I am suppose to have evrything done before I leave. They don't recover any of my depts during the day, but they expect me to recover when I'm there day or night. It is a bunch of bull and I plan to take this further. It is not fair work ethics, practices or whatever you want to call it. It is just wrong. Marshall's is making it impossible for people to stay. people are ready to go. That place is a joke. I use to think that Ross was the worst place to work. Wrong!~!! Marshall's take first place. We can't even move up in the Marshall's I work. They hire outside. They don't even post job openings. When we find out about job openings, its too late. They continuously bring in people from outside to fill positions and these people know absolutely nothing. One woman got the keyholder position and the next day her friend was hire. One boy got hired and two days later his father got hired. These people can't even fill out apps but they are working while we are getting cut. We lose hrs and they get hired.
I went to return some socks tonight at the Marshall's in Millbury, MA. I was returning the entire package because when I wore the first pair they were so tight around my ankle that it felt like it was cutting off the circulation. I washed that pair and returned the entire 4 pack along with my receipt. The girl at the register went and talked to her supervisor and that woman said I could not return them because I wore a pair!! I said the only reason I'm returning them is because they hurt my foot...I can't stand them on for more than an hour or 2. She did allow it to be returned "this one time" but I'd like to know when that policy went into effect? I told the young girl at the register that this really bothers me and from now on, I won't buy clothing here - I'll buy at Kohl's where they advertise you can return things, or Macy's where I have never had a problem. Before tonight, Marshall's has been one of my favorite stores and I think their new policy sucks.
I am writing in hopes that someone at the corporate store in Ma see's and realizes what is going on in the Rome NY Marshalls store. I was an employee at Marshalls until about 7:25pm tonight. I went in at 530pm to start my horrible shift. My manager on duty was Shelly. Shelly is a very useless waste of space, she is in a management position and doesn't know what the hell she is doing. I had a sale tonight that totaled something like 92.50, my customer paid with a 100.00bill that appeared fake to me. I held the bill up towards the light to look for the security strip and or other characteristics that would put me at ease about accepting this bill. As i looked i was just not sure what to do, i asked Shelly what she thought i should do,of course without surprise she didn't know. She had to call Mrs.Smith (other manager) and they took the bill into the cash office to determine if it was real or not..Seriously!!!! Our line was out of the q and many customers waited. When Shelly finally came out she said she wasn't sure but to just except it anyways...I was like what do u mean??? i cannot accept this if we are all unsure of it being real. She just gave me a dirty look and walked away. So low and behold i cashed out the customer and was still uneasy about it. a few minutes later the line was gone and 1 person came to the cashier nxt to me, i knew the woman and knew she was the ceo of Berkshire Bank, i asked her if i could ask her a question..she said sure and i showed her the 100.00 bill and asked if she would question it if she was in my position. Now the bill never left my hands and the other cashier was standing there with me,the woman from the bank felt the side and said it indeed felt fake and proceeded to explain to us how we could tell other than the obvious things we usually look for. Well Shelly threw a fit, right after this person walked out Shelly looked at me and screamed at me like a little kid...She is always rude and disrespectful, i guess she was pissed that i didn't want to go on her unsure word of this bill and told me i had no right asking anyone elses opinion. I mean i do understand that i prob shouldn't have showed the customer and wouldn't have had there been anyone else around but to talk to me like she did was just very disrespectful. These managers in this store are very unprofessional especially this Shelly!!! She actually shops the store during her shift but when her boss comes out she acts like she is stressed and busy,This was the worst experience of a working environment i have ever experienced. Now 2 weeks before xmas and i have no job!!!! Thanks Shelly i really appreciate everything u haven't done for me...Im sick of hearing about all your home problems and your new grandbaby. Anyways! This store is going to lose alot of business and customers because the environment sucks and the management in the front end are all very rude!
Marshals Route 9 and Old Bridge,NJ.08859...Manager(miss Washington) very rude to employee's ...Treats them like shit,Has manager fired due to her mistake(hates to be wrong)Does not like anyone who is smarter than her,Favors certain employees(who rat on employees)..Employees are afraid to speak up due to losing there job,That's why I'm no longer there(for speaking up)..She would have employees go to pick up her lunch(on marshalls time)...But that's ok,She would shop for clothes in stock room.(on marshals time)..But that's ok..Stop employee from working so she can talk about clothes they like together..She will put you down and yell at you in front of customres.yell at managers in front of customers,I've seen managers and employees leave her office crying,No one works for Marshals for a long time,Employees come and go..That's poor management..And no matter how good you do your work Miss Washinton is NEVER happy!!!!...My advice if your thinking of going for a job at Marshals,Ask on how the Managers are so you know what your getting into...Thanks
I love Marshalls and have been going to the same location for over 10 years (Rego Park in Queens N.Y.). I am familiar with one of the managers at that location who I've seen several times, and who in the most stressful situations skillfully maintains a level head, and takes the time to explain and resolve an issue with customers who appear highly upset. Today I went to Marshalls to get an early start on my X-Mas shopping. My eyes caught a beautiful handbag, and since I had budgeted for X-Mas shopping only I decided to lay-away the bag. After standing on the customer service line for a long period of time it was my turn, and I approached the counter. I am aware of the recent policy changes that have taken place at the store regarding law-away, but I wasn't sure if this item could be layed away, since there is no posting of what items can and can not be layed away. I asked the girl if it was possible if I could lay away the handbag. I guess she wasn't sure herself, since she turned to the man standing at her side and waited for his response. This man looked at me and told me that I could not lay away the handbag. Then he sarcastically added, "but you can purchase it." I was stun, but quickly responded with a few choice words. Is this the new policy Marshalls is providing to customers who are not able to purchase merchandise at the moment? Is it to humiliate and belittle the customer? I find it very hard to believe that Marshalls would allow this sort of treatment to its customers. The behavior of this "manager" is insensitive and disrespectful in a time when this country is experiencing economic hardship, and Americans are struggling to make a descent living. The majority of customers at this location are your blue collar workers who are struggling, and Christmas is a time when the layaway plan is the answer to their prayers. The handbag I can live without, but what about those families who want to law-away a X-Mas gift for their kids and are struggling to make ends meet!!!! Will he be standing there God-like casting judgment on them? This manager is a disgrace to what America is all about. This person is not worthy of working or representing Marshalls. Marshalls needs a new manager, or needs to give this particular manager an attitude adjustment.
I give Marshalls one star. I USED to shop at the Carmel Mt. store. I love Marshalls but on a few occasions I have seen the head store manger shouting at his fellow employees. I think his name is Troy I am not sure I worked in retail for many years and I find that unacceptable! I no longer shop there I cant stand to look at him. I know that sounds silly. I now go to Mira mesa and Solana beach instead. I wish there was something someone could do about that man . Oh well a hope there is a thing as Karma!
I recently transferred to marshalls in Washington dc....in the dc USA mall store # 1034 located at Washington heights and I loveeeeeee it .......everyone made me feel very welcome especially managers.....although I just moved to dc and joined their team I feel at home.....a better home and actually like it way better than the marshalls I spent 4 years at in new york.....thank you guys for welcoming me....go #1034 whoooooooooo hoooooooo!!!!!
The management at Marshalls in Canton, MI is deplorable at best. While at the store I asked to speak with a Manager about a problem with merchandise I had purchased the woman, Jacque?, was rude and had no interest in what I was attempting to explain to her. Her associate, Nan??, spent more time chatting about lunch plans with Jacque than resolving my problem. What kind of management is working there?
to whom it may concern, I shop at marshalls almost everyday considering it is right next to my work. for this marshalls I am reffering to the one on university parkway copper creek blvd, in sarasota, fl. Anywho, I got off work and as I usually do I went over. It was 8:58 pm on sunday. I am aware that you close at 9pm on sunday, however, I was looking for this jacket I had seen the other day & was going there to get it very quickly. The most rudest lady that works there told me I had to check out immediatly because they were closing... In the end, I left even though I found the jacket and went to ROSS which is right across from marshalls. I have never been so annoyed in my whole entire life !!!!!!!!!!!! From now on maybe I will be shopping at ROSS as oppose to Marshalls. & they are opened an hour and a half past you as well.
10/17/11 I just wanted to write and share my terrible experience upon returning damaged merchandise. I was never treated so RUDELY in a store in all my life. A month ago I bought some pictures for my new home, which after painting and fixing-up the place I didn't get around hanging them until a month later. I unwrapped the pictures and the frame was split so I went back to the store to return it and I was well w/in my 30-days of return and I had my receipt. The rude clerk who was the Manager above all things started interrogating me and short w/out coming and saying it was practically accusing me of breaking the picture myself....then she procedes to go on w/why am I returning this a mo. later....I said excuse me I bought a house you know you paint, etc., not everyone runs home and unpacks and uses merchandise they bought right away. She's like well we would have never let that item out of the store if it looked that way.....they had the same pictures in the back I never was asked oh would you like an exchange instead.....I was so insensed about the situation I told the Manager over the past mo. I spent a lot of money for items in my home and I will never step foot in this store again and I will tell all my friends and family to stay out of their stores!!!! I see by the other comments posted on this site that I'm not alone when it comes to poor treatment. Besides this post I will definitely be taking this up w/corporate.
I love your commercials, however the store @ 200 Petersville Road, New Rochelle is nothing like the commercial. Clothes are put back in the wrong area. The selections are poor, the clothes looks old. They put tags on garments that create wholes that I leave @ the counter. It is usually a mess, dissorganized, hard to find things & really needs some adjustment & upgrade. Wouldn't it be nice to shop in a store that looks like your commercials. It's a pity because I love to shop @ Marshalls, but this store is in great need of assistance.
Marshalls Desert Ridge market place, on Tatum in Phoenix. A disgrace to the company. Store manager Carmen Garcia and her assistant Ryan Rohan know nothing about customer service. You can find a great deal on an item, they grabbed it from my hands, frantically peeled of the red clearance tags, yelled "noway". Ms Garcia looks like a homeless hag, dirty, awful clothes, bad skin, clumped hair. She looks homeless and has horrible manners and mean language. Forget about customer service. It is great neighborhood and a shame to have such poor service at this location. I hope corporate office does something about it! I spent thousands of dollars over the years here. I will give my money to their competitors instead and tell everyone about this horrible shopping place!
Hello, I'm 'currently' an employee at your Santa Barbara store. It is one of the worst jobs I've ever had. NO ORGANIZATION and barely any TRAINING. I'm tired of being treated like a kid. Cindy, the store manager, is a BITCH!!!!!
UGH! I asked an employee to use the restroom and was told the restroom wasn't open to the public. I then proceeded to explain to her that I have Crohn's Disease and I showed her my medical alert card which gives me access to the bathroom and she proceeded to direct me to customer service. Here I get another employee who says the same thing. All along NO ONE has stopped to look at my card they just keep repeating that I can't use the restroom. I ask to speak to a manager and the manager after two over the loud speaker calls never shows up. I told them that I really needed to go (there is a reason I have the card so I don't have a number 2 accident in my pants) and the rude employee said well there is a public restroom across the street 3rd floor you would have made it by now if u had stopped insisting we let you use ours here. I got infuriated. Thankfully, another employee said I will take her and I was able to not take a crap on their floor. I wouldn't have made it to the public restroom across the street 3 floors up and at the end of the day it was the principal behind the situation. I wish they would better educated the employees to not be so rule driven and to actually listen to a customer and even yet read the card the customer is providing which states to give access to the person immediately! The Marshalls is located in 40 7th Street South Minneapolis (612) 673-9174
