I went into store #6642 on 8/18/2010 @ 15:49 in Chicago and the check-out line had 1 cashier and 10 people waiting in line to purchase their items. After waiting in the check-out line for 5 minutes, I asked the manager (Vince) if another line would be opening anytime soon, his response was "this is all that we have for the remaining of the evening." I expressed my dissatisfaction with his response and after observing that it was himself and another employee in the store and no one was willing to open another register to help expedite the customers with their purchases. Finally Vince opened a registered and assisted 3 customers and once again closed his register and went the opposite direction of the customers waiting in the check-out line. This type of customer service is unacceptable and needs to be addressed.
I was in store #7803 Norristown PA. I will not go back to this store. The manager was rude and treated me like no one should. I was charged twice for a $3.50 Item. I called that night as I could not make it back. I was told to bring in the receipt.. the next day I left work early, as I am a retail store manager myself, took the receipt in, and was asked where the product was. I wasn't told to bring the ONE that I was charged for twice in. For $3.50 I had to go to this store twice, treated like an idiot and waisted more then I got, but did it for the principal of it. I won't go back to this store. maybe not the company there are a lot of options out there.
I recently quit my job at a Family Dollar store #4542 and working there had been the worst three years of my life. I worked hard and efficiently and received no acknowledgment for anything. The customers often said that I was the friendliest cashier they've dealt with--my manager April Jones was very rude to the customers and towards her employees. I worked for $7.40 an hour and never received a raise that I had earned, I was unable to take any breaks--none of us were--and there was not enough employees to do the necessary work and so it was thrust upon me and the one assistant manager who was usually working with me; very dangerous for us closing at night. I was promised a promotion twice and nothing. Upper management cares nothing at all for their employees and quitting that job was the best thing I ever did and I don't feel bad for not giving two weeks notice. They don't give you two weeks notice when they fire you now do they?
THE STORE ON PHILADELPHIA RD IN BALTIMORE, MD IS ONE OF THE CLEANST STORES I HAVE EVER SEEN. I THINK THE STORE MANAGER NAME IS JODY
Hi,To you ALL! I AM PRESENTLY EMPLOYED AT FAMILY DOLLAR AND I HAVE TO BE THE FIRST TO SAY THAT MANAGEMENT IS VERY POOR...AND THE COMPANY DOES NOT LOOK OUT FOR THERE CUSTOMERS NOR THEIR EMPLOYEES...IT IS A SHAME FOR THIS COMPANY TO HAVE A BIG ORGANIZATION ALL AROUND THE NATION. AND IT IS SO POOR AS FAR AS THEIR MANAGEMENT. AND FOR THE STORE TO NEED MORE ASSOCIATES AND THEY WILL NOT HIRE MEN. THAT IS A CASE OF DISCRIMINATION AND THEY KNOW THAT AND STILL DO NOT HIRE MEN SO WHAT DOES THAT TELL YOU... ALL THEY CARE ABOUT IS THE STORE MAKING MONEY THAT IS IT...I SEE THAT THIS SITE IS SUPPOSED TO GIVE THE CORPORATE OFFICE NUMBER FOR COMPLAINTS OR CONCERNS BUT THERE IS NO NUMBER LISTED I WILL GET IT RIGHT NOW AND POST IT SO YOU ALL WILL HAVE IT.Family Dollar Corporate Office | Headquarters 10401 Monroe Rd. Matthews, NC 28105 (704)847-6961 I really hope this helps you all !!!
I think that family dollars need serious help in how there stores are run. Letting someone run in and grab your bags as you are paying for them and running out the store and refusing to call the police is sicking. That is what happened to my handicapped friend. She was paying for her stuff when a lady ran in grabbed her bags and ran out. THEY would not even call the police for her. It is like it was a set up with the employees. Come on now the corporate office can not even return a phone call. This woman used her last $25.00 to buy what she needed and walked out of the store with nothing. They had no problem keeping her money and refusing to call the police. NO HELP WHAT SO EVER FROM THERE EMPLOYEES... What a bunch of loosers family dollar hires. I have even told them that I was going to contact a news channel to let people see how they treat there customers. I WILL NEVER SHOP AT FAMILY DOLLAR EVER AGAIN AND I HOPE OTHERS FOLLOW BEHIND AND STOP SHOPPING THERE ALSO. They DON'T care about there HANDICAPPED CUSTOMERS........... This store is in AKRON, OHIO
Family Dollar in St. Louis Mo Store# 1793 3636 S Grand Blvd on 8/8/2010. I purchase several Items. The cashier place my bags on the fllor until she completed the transaction. My grandson was checking out behind me, and a customer was complanting behind us. So I left my bags. I did not receive my receipt,so I call the next Morning and talk to the Manger and advised him of the problem. I went to the store that evening. The Manger was gone. they had all of my merchandise there except 1 Item. They told me I had to talk with the manger. I call back the next day, while talking with the manger he put some one else on the phone. I ask her why he put you on the phone when you telling me I need to talk with the manger. I ask to talk back to him she advise he left the store. They ask who was the cashier, I gave the the time I check out 8/8/10 at 11:53am. They told me they dont know who was work then. I'm very upset, I have lost money and merchandise. I describe every Item I purchase. Name of the Item, scent and color.Im upset because the manger is not trying to help me. The way family dollar is set up a customer you can't see your bags. So I'm sure other customer has left there bags before. The cashier should put the bags on the counter not the floor. I hope Corporate can help me redeem my money or merchandise.
Family Dollar Store, 4206 Frankford Ave., Baltimore, MD 21206, 8/8/10. Yesterday, Sunday August 8, after late mass I walked over to the nearby Family Dollar store listed above at about 3:45 p.m. to purchase some items for my vehicles. We shop there 3-4 times a week for small items and cleaning supplies, as they are close by and generally inexpensive. I selected two items and got in line. There were 17 customers ( I counted) ahead of me and one cashier open, though there were three employees behind the counter. As the line continued to grow behind me, and showed no signs of moving forward, several customers ahead of me began asking the other employees behind the counter if they were going to open the other lane. Their questions were ignored, despite repeated inquiries. Finally, the two non-working employees announced loudly that they were going on break and left from behind the counter. There were many sighs and mutterings from the frustrated customers in line. At this point a young man immediately in front of me drinking a large bottle of Energy drink stepped out and walked behind the cashier's desk. After some protracted discussion involving an exchange of curses with the other cashier, he announced that he was opening the other lane. He was white and appeared to be about 14 years old, though I suspect he was several years older. About half of the now 20+ customers got into his lane. He spent another several minutes fumbling with the register and exchanging choice remarks with the other cashier. Finally, he opened for business. He seemed to have a difficult time ringing up and scanning products. As he was making change for his first customer, he decided to re-stock the small change drawer, despite the fact that the compartments were visibly full of coins. Rather than crack a roll of coins and dump them into the drawer, he unrolled them like Lifesavers and dropped them one-by-one into the compartments. I began to have serious doubts about his basic cognitive faculties. As the line crawled forward far behind that of the other cashier several customers left the line to go and get additional items while their purchases were being rung up, causing further delays. The customers immediately in front of me stepped out three times during their checkout. When I finally got to the front of the line I asked the young cashier if it were store policy to encourage such behavior. He replied," It's not my fault, if you don't like the service here you can go someplace else." I informed him I would do just that, and asked to speak to the manager. The other cashier, an older, heavy-set white women with bleached blonde hair said she was the manager. I told her of my complaint, and she said, "Well, that's why he's not the manager." All the while the young male cashier is continuing to heap abuse upon me, calling me a liar and telling me to leave. I asked again if this is the way management allows customers to be treated and was told again," I told you, that's why he's not a manager." I asked for her name, the employee's name and her supervisor's name, she refused to say and told me, " You're trying to get me in trouble." I called the corporate office today. I will not shop at any Family Dollar ever again.
Is there anything less than 1 star? I work for Family Dollar in Houston Texas, I HATE IT!!! over worked and under paid is an under statement. 12 hour shifts, no breaks, no lunches, no raises, no days off, flex schedule my... well you know. I REALLY hope someone calls me for an interview soon. Good Luck to anyone who works there, I feel for you, I really do.
Ok I understand that people want to go home when it comes to closing time. But Seriously when there is still 5 minutes left before close you DO NOT tell a customer they can not come in and grab what they need. All I needed was a couple of gift bags and I need right where they were. I was not going to get anything else just the gift bags. The manager had the balls to look @ me and my husband and tell us that they close in 2 minutes and that they can't help us. I am sorry but I am a manager for a HUGE company and it is part of our job and good customer serivce to take or help anyone that comes up to us just before close. I really think that is poor customer serivce on the managers behalf!! The store is #4964 in Grand RApids Michigan.
YOUR STORE MGR IS THE MOST UNPROFESSIONAL THAT I HAVE EVER SEEN. I WAS IN THE STORE ABOUT 3 WKS AGO ANDI NOTICED 3 BOXES Of DENTURE CREAM OPEN, I TOLD THE MGR. I WAS BACK IN THE STORE THIS WK AND FOUND THE 3 BOXES STILL ON THE SHELF, I TOLD THE MGR ONCE AGAIN AND HE TOLD ME THAT HE WASN'T GOING TO REMOVE THE BOXES. I ASKED FOR THE DIST MGR NAME (BEN) AND NUMBER. AFTER RECEIVING THE NUMBER I CALLED AND LEFT A MSG. I HAVE YET TO HEAR FROM HIM. I AM WONDERING WHAT THE HEALTH DEPT SAY ABOUT OPENED CONTAINERS STAYING ON THE SHELF. I WOULD LIKE TO DISCUSS THIS FURTHER WITH YOUR CUST SVS PEOPLE

In chattanooga tenn every dollar store i went to givees back money on the debit card. Family dollar in cleveland tn its 2010 grow up! Get a better life! Yes i am black and every cashier is white. They never let me get money back on my debit card. im sick of this.
I have been to Family Dollar many times in new castle pa. in the union area. the workers there are nothing but kind and helpful. everyone of them I have to say has helped me in so many ways. some of them even go the distance to get the items for me I can't find. I must say the store is always clean there. they are always busy and smiling. I think these workers should be commended for a job well done. Also the manager suzy there is very kind to customers as well as Phil.It really is nice to see a male working there too that is kind and will do anything you ask of him. Many times I had big items which he readily agreed to carry out actually asking me if I needed him to carry it out. To me that meant alot for I am older and there are times I do need help being I havea bad back. the workers there are all so nice, wish I knew all thier names. so I could tell you who they are. the one I see working with Phil the most is a dark haired girl, always smiling and will listen to you when you talk and never makes you feel you are taking up her time. then there is the younger girl also each one of them are so special to me . I have to say I love the people working for this family dollar they are all wonderful. now for the things that bother me, I have asthma, and to go in there at times is way to hot there are timesI really can't breath in your store. and why are you guys opened till 9? truthfully I went in one time at 8'15 and it was so slow , plus staying open all day on 4th is unfair to the workers , they do have families just like you . I am sure your office is closed on these holidays and with walmart right up the street is not really good for you plus all the stores around family dollar are closed at 4 . it bothers me that they are open like that I refuse to shop in family dollar on holidays. so do alot of my friends. we feel its a small store and you don't have to be opened all day on 4th. and or till 9 every day . I can see if these are summer hours , but to do this in winter is really not good. roads get bad . all family dollars are not like they are in big cities this is a small town and most people go to walmart for things being they are cheaper too. just thought you should think on things. oh yes by the way sundays open till 8 is not right sundays are for families i can see 6 but 5 would be better. I personally do not shop after 4 along with my friends . as a matter of fact we are trying to get our church to preach on how important sundays are for families. so I am praying that some stores will take heed and start thinking more of family time then money. thanks for listening to me coming from an old lady of78 I doubt I make any difference at all
FAMILY Dollar-store-4360. I had a very bad encounter with the manager.I do not think- it is fair,or,professional the way this manager-talked and treated me. and I will have it known.and,I will be compensated also.for lost- time and wages. sincerely, salty madd.-really.!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
I have gone into the Family Dollar on Pass road in Gulfport Ms. Both times I ignored by the only working employee. I had gotten my products together and gone to the check out the woman was not at the counter both times. I had to hunt her down and get ther to come tot he check counter, on the first visit as soon as we got to the counterI man walks in and asked her where the mops are, she just walked off and took him tot he back of the store, with standing in line...I left. My second trip there I got my products and the clerk was not at the counter, Isearched the WHOLE store, a second couple was in the store and as I was "standing inline" I should have been the first to check out, but NO she took them first. Common theme here is I am white and the clerk and other customers are black. Kinda feels like that Family Dollar does not service white folks.
On Wednesday 07/14/2010 I Enter the Family Dollar Store located at 300 Pace Blvd, Pensacola, Fl 32501 Store # 5858. I search the store looking for an extension cord, because I was new to the area I preceeded to the front to ask for assistance, I noticed two people behind the register, one was ringing up customers, so I politely said to the other young lady excuse me please, I thought that she did not hear me, so I said excuse me, she turned to the cashier that was busy checking out customers and said to her "Answer Her" So the young lady that was busy ringing up customers stop to give me the location of the item. Once I located the item I went to the register to purchase the item the rude lady was walking out the door, I asked the cashier for the Manager she told me that the lady that just walked out the door was her manager, so I asked her for the name of the General Manager, she then told me that the same lady was also the General Manager I then asked for her name in which I was inform that her name was Ms. Ellen It come down to this she was rude, and unprofessional and did not give me the customer service that is due to anyone that patronize any retail establishment. I feel that General Managers are no better than a cashier when if come down to good customer service, I will never shop at this store or any other family Dollar Store, was always taugh that first impression are lasting. Sincerely, Sonja Hubbard brownsugasonja@yahoo.com
I had the honor of returning something to FDS in Dallas, TX on Fort Worth Avenue and had the pleasure of dealing with the rudest cashier I had ever dealt with. She really didn't know her job and when I asked her for my original receipt and credit refund receipt she gave me an attitude. Didn't really have any customer service skills. I will never go there again.
I bought cotton swabs from a Family Dollar Store in Essex,Maryland @ the Middlesex Shopping Center. They wouldn't take them back because I didn't have a receipt. I was trying to return them because they are VERY UNSAFE. The cotton tip of the swab falls off when you try and clean your ear.(Luckily we were able to retrive it but it could have been distasterous). Also the stick of the swab is so flimsy that it bends and could possibly break. They are very dangerous. They need to take this product off of the market!! maryjoprado at comcast dot net
FAMILY DOLLAR-3560 E 118th St. Chicago,IL.(East Side) I purchased 13lb bag of cat food, 14lb box of cat litter, 12 cans of cat food & other misc.items...after checking out they REFUSED to let me take my shopping cart out to my car which was parked across the street. They are in a mall. The Manager stated "They get stolen" I have Osteoarthritis & I managed to get these items in my cart while shopping OK but didn't think I'd have to carry to my car. Will not shop there again. Manager-She was very rude. Told me to call Corporate Office and tell them to give her more Carts. I guess the 12 they had wasn't enough.
