Today I went to the Belt store at the Birmingham, Alabama Galleria to buy some pajamas. I had a terrible time finding a manned cashier station; you would think that during the Christmas season there would be adequate salespeople working to assist customers, but no. I finally found someone in the next section over (bras/ panties). There was an elderly lady ahead of me. Her transaction was extremely drawn out. It took about 20 minutes--not because of the cashier, but because the customers card was declined and they tried it several times and then when the lady finally switched to another card, she asked for a gift receipt AFTER the cashier had finished and handed her her receipt. At the very end of her transaction, two other ladies walked up and stepped in front of me I spoke up and said "I believe I was next." One of them replied, "no, we've been here a long time, we've just been over there talking." The cashier then waited on them without a word. As you can imagine, I was quite irritated and put out. I then left that line and walked several sections over to find another cashier. Afterwards, I asked that cashier to call a manager for me. A male manager arrived about five minutes later and I explained to him what had happened. He then told me "the cashiers can't argue with a customer." I replied, "I'm not asking her to argue--she could have simply told that customer that I was there first." he repeated the same statement, at which time I told him that I could just choose not to shop at Belk. He then told me that "I'm doing everything I can." I replied "no you're not" and started walking away, at which point he called after me in a taunting tone "Merry Christmas." I will not shop at Belk again. Had I had time, I would have returned the $80.00 worth of pajamas I had just bought (and I still plan to).

On 12/1/11 while shopping in the Waynesville,n.c. Belks, I had an arm of a manequin fall on my right ankle and went to check out and thought to myself I had better notify management so they could take care of it and noone else would get hurt. Reported it to a store manager named Patti and showed her where it happened,she said thank you for telling me,but she never asked if I was injured or if I was alright or even my name!!! Now I sit tonight with a swollen ankle, it would have been nice if someone had at least asked if I was ok! At 63 years old how foolish of me to think someone would give a damn! Wish I could write the corporate office about it but can't seen to find how to do that. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am so done with that store!

If I must rate the service given to me from customer service, it is far below the one star. My first experience with online ordering happened to me on Saturday, Nov.26,2011. I went online and placed my order and continued the step by step process, no problem, that is until I got to the check out, GUESS WHAT????? THEY WERE GOING TO CHARGE MY ORDER TO ANOTHER LADY IN SOUTH CAROLINA, I live in NC, I stopped on the order and called Belks customer service and asked for a manager and only received a supervisor. I ALERTED THEM OF THE PROBLEM, and she said OH NO THIS HAS NEVER BEEN A PROBLEM BEFORE NOW. I said it surely is a huge problem NOW, if you are going to charge someone else for my order, does that mean they will be getting my order or where will it go, will I get it or what???? She said she would talk with someone else, and put me on hold four times trying to figure out why the computer was going crazy. She said she would just take my order and submit it for me. I said ok. Then when I got my confirmation by e-mail guess what???? The other lady was being charged with my purchase, so what do I do?? I call the lady in another state and told her of the problem that was coming her way. I told her she might want to keep an eye on her statement when it came in. I went on line later and tried to place another order and the same thing occured again. SAME PROBLEM BUT IT GETS WORSE, I START TO CHECK OUT AGAIN AND WOW............ A DIFFERENT LADY THIS TIME HER ORDER IS ON MY ACCOUNT, I CALL HER IN GEORGIA, AND NOTIFY HER OF THE PROBLEM COMING HER WAY, I DON'T KNOW IF ANYONE SHOULD

I will never visit the Staunton VA store again. I was told I would receive 35% off my order for applying for a Belk card, which I did not receive. The items I purchased were supposed to be 9.99 they rang up 16.99 and she would only discount one out of the seven items. Then another item was supposed to be 25% off and it did not ring up that way. I asked for a dressing room and the attendant sent us to the Men's department, I questioned this and he said no it is for everyone, then another (female) associate yelled at us for using it. We had cashiers following us around the store like we were shop lifters. I asked to speak to the manager and all she did was apologize. I am extremely upset with this location and will also be reporting them to the BBB.

TO WHOM IN CORPORATE NEEDS TO READ THIS. YOUR STORE MANAGER IN THE HATTIESBURG STORE NEED TO BE CHECKED OUT. BECAUSE OF OVER WORKING THE MANAGERS IN THE STORE AND ALSO ABOUT THE MUNBER OF NIGHTS THEY HARE TO WORK AND THE SUNDAYS. THE STORE MANAGER DOES NOT WORK ANY NIGHTS OR ANY SUNDAYS AT ALL. I THOUTH THAT IF WAS COMPANY RULES THAT THE MANAGER HAD TO WORK SOME OF THESE TIMES. HE ALSO THINKS THAT HIS MANAGMENTS IS INCOMPETENT. ALSO VACATIONS MEW RULES ALL VACATIONS FOR 2012 MUST BE TAKEN BY JULY WHAT IS UP WITH THIS DOES HE HAVE THIS RIGHT

I wanted to talk with someone at the southpark store in Big and Tall. I was transferred to the wrong department X2, no one in the right department would pick up, when I called back to customer service for the 3rd time the customer services person was frustruated with me! Then there is the torture of the 7 second music loop they make you listen too! In the 30 years I have been shopping at Belk there has always been a problem with finding someone on the floor to help you. This does NOT HAPPEN at Norstrom or Dillards or Neiman Marcus. As I type this, I am about to go mad from the "on hold music treatment" and my dogs are going mad with me. Hard to believe with all those college educated professional retailers at Belk that you can't even make the ridiculously long waits a little easier to bare. You guys just don't want my business. 12 minutes an waiting.......

Belk is a horrible company. The store in Gulfport Mississippi overworks their employees. Making the salaried workers work 12-20 hour a day. Especially when visits are scheduled. Whoever the manager is there is incompetent. I should get a job there, then sue the crap out of them over labor laws. You need to check into your Mississippi gulf coast stores and hire better managers. They are slave driving incompetent idiots. This company runs a sweat shop.

It pains me to see these comments. I worked for Belk-Gainesville, FL location in my early 20's and have been a loyal customer for 10+ years. There is so much negative emotion in your postings but no rationality. It is not psychologically normal no ban shopping from ANY Belk shopping again due to a bad experience. The employees are only as human as you and I, including management, and I guarantee if you went to them in a respectful manner to explain calmly your concern that you would get the great service you seek. Just because something doesn't go our way, doesn't mean we have been disrespected or given bad customer service, it just mean that there may be flaws in the system and guess what folks, flaws can be fixed if addressed in a calm and rational manner. If I were corporate, I wouldn't pick up the phone either. Can you imagine receiving screaming phone calls all day from people that just need to relieve some emotional stress and you won the golden ticket of being blessed with heir rant. Surely if you get through every time you call to complain, the suicide rate in this country will triple. Treat others like you with to be treated. Belk is a great company and I personally know that they give great service if you allow them to. Don't expect others to read your mind. If you'd like help, just ask. Belk isn't a car sales lot, employees aren't going to run to you and beg you to buy something and swarm around like a gnat. That's the joy of shopping at Belk, shopping in peace and helpful service and advice when needed.

Cary NC store is a joke. They recently renovated but attempted to stay open to try to try to get a few poor suckers to keep buying. I walked through a lot of dusty plywood walls to find an escalator to the second floor. The dept I wanted had been moved there, but it barely had any merchandise. No problem, I just go to Macys and Dillards. Despite my warning, my wife makes the mistake of going to Belks last week to buy things for this weekend. Now while packing she finds the store security tags attached. Great, I guess we can drop by Belks to have the tags removed instead of leaving on the trip tomorrow. Stay away from this one. There are much better alternatives.

Overall Belk is not that bad but you will always find sales people in local stores who are simply jerk. Recently I had such bad experience with Belk at Cary Town Center Mall. I was exchanging plain color RL polo shirt with stripped one. Person at desk first went through return transaction with my original receipt and than new stripped polo sale. While I was in store, a lady, named Landy(I think !) came to me, talk me into giving her my return receipt and than went to reverse the transaction. She told me I need to go back to the Belk store I bought the shirt to return. I never had problem returning or exchanging merchandise at different location store of same kind. I felt very upset, frustrated and left store leaving my merchandise and receipt with that arrogant lady. I certainly will take my complain to Belk corporate and to my credit card but you will always find not so good sales floor people even at reputable brand and store like Belk.

Two days in a row (08/24 & 08/25/11), I shopped with and watched Gwynn (Hilton Head Belk - Ralph Lauren area) at work. Both days, she treated me as though I were in a wonderful, small, owner run boutique. The caliber of her service was HIGHER than 5 star. Unlike some others in the store, she is truly an ASSET to Belk. So many people complain about bad service, and so few of us write to commend excellent service. I sure hope someone at Belk Corporate Headquarters makes an effort to tell Gwynn that she is doing a FANTASTIC job for your store. She is a model employee and I hope she is working EVERY TIME I hit your Ralph Lauren department in my local Hilton Head Island store. GREAT job, Gwynn! Thank you! peggy@ptrtennis.org

Received my credit card today in the mail. Wonderful, my first name and middle name were on the card, BUT not my last name. Called the number on the cedit card and was told that they could not change my card with a phone call. Told the rep that I was putting my card and paper work in the shreader and will NEVER do business with Belk again.

I have a problem with Belk. I have been called at my place of business for the last two months. The first time I was embarrassed because I assumed that my payment was late. I thought I'd overlooked mailing it. They wanted me to pay by phone. I declined to do that because I wanted to look at the due date. My bill WAS NOT LATE! I still had more than a week to pay and there is a store 8 miles from my home where I could make a payment. Yesterday I was called again by the most rude woman I've ever talked to. She again wanted me to pay by phone. I told her that I was at work and I would call back after I got home. She told me that "she would put a note in the computer that I REFUSED TO PAY!". She also snapped at me that if I wanted a phone number to call back, it was on the back of my credit card! She then informed me that I was only paying the interest for the last couple of months. Which is NOT true. $50.00 a month is not interest! Again my payment IS NOT late! It's not due until next week. Cut up credit card last night. I was a premier card customer, now I'm not a customer at all. I will pay it off and never shop there again. The store is in Seneca SC.

Has anyone seen the new sale catalog for this weekend. Look at the pictures of the models in the junior section. Most of the girls are so skinny you can see their bones. I think this a terrible message to send to teenage girls. I can't believe Belk would use this linf of model for their ads.

terrible customer service no 1 waits on u. The managers dont call you back; guess I'll try this corporate office number that no 1 answers like everyone else. I will be taking my business elsewhere as soon as someone else offers the same products. I do not feel like I valued customer. employees have a very, I don't care attitude! Thanks 4 nothing.

Hey y'all, I hope those of you who complained about calling the main office and having the phone ring and ring check back to this site. HERE is the number to call. I am not as bitter as the rest of the reviewers, I just can't get through. I have called the corporate office and been unable to get through after 15 minutes of ringing over the course of several attempts.

I have two areas of concern. (1)This past April 2011,I purchased clothing at your Belks Gwinnett Mall store in Atlanta, and it was during the charity sale which I purchased a ticket for. I got billed twice on the same April statement for the same 54.00 and change. I called GE credit when I got the bill in May and I am still waiting on the credit. They told me at GE that it could take three months or longer to clear. My question is why. GE advised me to also check with the store because the credit to my account could be done faster. I was able to see what happened immediately when I looked at the bill so I went to the store and told the sales rep, and I also told him that GE said it would be faster etc. His reply was that since I started with GE I should stay with GE. (2)I pay my bill via internet and it takes a week or longer to pop up. Other companies send you a confirmation in the same day.Why can't Belks do the same? This is not acceptable Cust Serv.

I will no longer shop at Belks and I am tearing up my credit card that I only used once. Two days ago, I shopped for over 30 minutes in women's apparel looking for clothes to take on my vacation next week. When I got to the counter, the clerk said my check did not go through which is amazing since I have plenty funds to cover the purchase amount of $80. The manager tried again and then gave me a card to call Certegy, a check clearing company used by a lot of retail stores now. They could not give me a reason for the check being turned down but said it was not due to bad checks, which he didn't have to tell me that. Anyway, they wanted me to use other means to purchase the clothes which I did not want to do. Certegy said they would send me a form to complete so I cannot have troubles like this anymore. I went on line to print off the form and I don't think I need to give out this info which is already available if they went to the Credit Bureau, like Belks had to do when I got a credit card. Anyway, I won't be embarrassed like this again and I will send the credit card torn up back to them today. If they can't even accept a check from me why should I use their credit card? Good bye Belks and others using the Certegy company to verify checks. If you look on line at the complaints about Certegy, retail stores should realize this is not a very wise thing to do if you want to keep customers or get new ones.
