30 day cancelation

When I created the membership in Grand Prairie Texas, I asked every question so that I was well informed. Cancelation was definitely on the top of my list,if I want to cancel are there any penalties or any fine print, No I was told call us so we can stop the drafting of your account and that's it. Now when I call to cancel I'm being told that I didn't give 30 day notice as if I'm vacating a home rental property. Very misleading and now I'm being forced to pay for another month to the ymca from which I won't use,and they get a free payment.

I will most "probably" be joining your YMCA here within the next 24 to 48 hours however, I would like to express my deepest disappointment in the YMCA NOT taking care of the veterans with some sort of discount as MOST of America seems to has done over the past several years. Especially those veterans that have been over and served in foreign wars like myself in Iraq.

I talked to someone today,I had a question about filming or taking pictures of members.I was told when I joined the ymca&filled out the paperwork&signed it.That I give permission that if they want to film us ir take pictures....they can. It's in fine print people usually don't read fine print. I feel like people are being tricked, they can do this.Basically if I don't like it I can go somewhere else I have been a member of the ymca for years.I enjoy the group excercise the best.

In the beginning of 1953 the YMCA was relegated to men and boys only. That year Mr. Reese Hergesheimer was the director of youth for the Methodist Youth Fellowship group in the Methodist Church of Van Nuys, California. He organized the very first YMCA Co-educational Youth Group that included both boys and girls. They named the group the Highlander’s Hi-Y Group, and drew up list of regulations for the organization. Soon thereafter the Highlander’s Hi-Y initiated a group in Hollywood, California and one in Pennsylvania. Each had their own name for their Hi-Y Group. From there on others were initiated all over the country, and that was the beginning of the YMCA Co-educational youth groups. I was a member of the original group almost 60 years ago. . Our group met every Wednesday evening for meetings followed by a game of volleyball, but often joined the Hollywood group for an afternoon of swimming at the Hollywood YMCA. Being a genealogist, and knowing the importance of history, I would like to see this historic data documented into the history of the YMCA if it is not already there. Regards, Donna [Knabe] O’Neil

UCYMCA is a joke no management .

Wrecked My Day To make a long story short I had a scheduled knee surgery a few weeks ago that turned out to be a little more complicated than I had expected. As a result I’ll be on crutches 3 more weeks. Like many of you I NEED to work out every day and have been lifting but not able to do any cardio at all. The Dr. finally gave me the o.k. to start swimming. The closest pool to me is at the YMCA so I stopped in for a free 5 day pass to try it out. I guy named Dan immediately took me in a room with the door closed and went over pricing options. As my crutches were propped against the wall he continued to tell me all about boot camp and group exercise classes( that I will not be able to use in the foreseeable future). Even though I had filled out a guest registration sheet with all of my information he did not pick up on it so did let him know where I worked and that this would be probably be a summer membership only because I need a pool. By the end of our conversation he asked if we had any openings at the corporate office. Ooh no-not for you. For the following 3 days I arrived at 5:45am and did a morning swim before work. Each day I was greeted at the front desk by a middle aged (same age as me) woman named Mary. I recognized Mary as she was a former employee at a local coffee shop. She was so mean that we actually would try wait for any another barista to make our drinks. Now Mary seemed fine at the Y and she seemed friendly enough so I thought this may be the job for her. On the fourth day I arrived at my usual time and as I crutched in I realized that I had forgotten my 5 day pass that incidentally was only a sheet of paper but I did have my divers license. I explained the situation to Mary and to my surprise she told me “no” I can’t work out without the pass. I politely asked since she has seen my each day and because I did have my license could I please work out and I’ll stop in later that day to get my membership started. Again she told me” no” . At this point I turned around and crutched with my backpack on back to my car that was already a mile away -fuming all of the way. Once I closed the car door terrible words were flying out of my mouth –if you didn’t know me better you would have thought I had turrets. Not only have I told everyone I know but I have also called the club manager twice and left messages with no return call to date. The sad thing is that if this incident had not occurred they would have a new member for summer. It was so…. easy. (Hudson, WI)

I was in the MD YMCA riding the bike when this very rude employee came over yelling at the boys behind me saying they are slamming the weights and grunting. I did not appreciate how she spoke to them and what her excuse was for yelling at them. It is a gym it should be expected to have noise in it.

I am a 30 year member of Metro Y in the Mobile/Baldwin County area, Alabama. I am deeply concerned regarding the following "RUMOR". YMCA, established as Young Mens Christian Association is to change to Toung Mens Community Association. Please advise: Is this just a rediculous rumor or is actually factual. please respond t jandmod@juno.com Thanks for hearing my serious concern. Jim

I voluntered at the ymca in freehold borough in N.J. at 41 center street. I was just searching for ways to post my resume for the Y, as I have a passion for your organization. I came across this page, and it looks like an opportunity to express myself. Mel O Neil and Shoni Hickman have changed not only my life, but the lives of each and every child and adult that enters those doors. I pray that they continue to recieve the funds to keep up the wonderful work that happens within those four walls. They walk in such a sweet spirit of serving others, and it is contagious. The YMCA will continue to be a part of my life whether it is employment or volunteering my time to impact the youth. Thanks for the heart and minds that have started this organization, and may it continue to grow each day. Thanks again, John.p.silva4@gmail.com
