My Visit to the Penske Racing Museum By Flat Nolan Flat Stanley is a character in a children’s book. In the book a boy, Stanley, is flattened into a two-dimensional character when a bulletin board falls off the wall in his bedroom and squashes him. He survives and has many adventures in this state before his brother, Arthur, returns him to his three-dimensional form by blowing him up with a bicycle pump. For the Flat Stanley Project, grade school children make a paper "Flat Stanley" patterned after their self. They mail to other people who are asked to treat the figure as a visiting guest, keep a journal of the characters activities and then return the figure and the journal after a period of time. The idea is to include an interesting variety of places visited. I am not “Flat Stanley.” I am “Flat Nolan.” I was created by a grade-school boy, Nolan, who sent me to visit his grandparents Last Saturday my Grandfather took me to the Penske Racing Museum. There was only one person in the museum, a lady. She said, “May I help you.” She did not sound friendly. She sounded like we were intruding. The lady listened while my grandfather explained the Flat Stanley Project and told her who I was. He asked if we could take a picture of me leaning against a car. The lady said, “No, this has come up many times before and we don’t allow it. No one is allowed to go beyond the rails. You can put it by one of the plaques and take its picture there.” She used the voice that Nolan’s Mother uses when she scolds him. She was not very friendly. My Grandfather looked at one of the plaques. It was small and would not have shown where I had been very well. He said, “Surely there must be exceptions. This would only take a moment and would not harm anything.” The lady said, “No, this is a private collection and these cars are worth millions of dollars.” She sounded grouchy. My Grandfather said, “I understand the value of the cars, but this would not harm the cars at all. I don’t think this is very good customer service. May I speak to a manager?” Then the lady said, “The Manager is only here on weekdays. I can call security.” She sounded bossy. My Grandfather said OK. The lady picked up the phone. Pretty soon she said, “Security, there is an issue here at the front desk.” Then she hung up. A guard came. My Grandfather told the guard what he wanted to do. The guard said, “No one goes behind those rails. Mr. Penske gets very angry if anyone goes behind those rails.” The guard was polite, but he was would not change his mind. The rules were the rules. I don’t know who Mr. Penske is. He must be pretty important and pretty mean, because my Grandfather said, “OK then. I guess we’re not going to get any pictures of Flat Nolan here;” and we left. In the car my Grandfather said that Mr. Penske had won a lot of races by being flexible about rules. I don’t know what that meant. I’m having a lot of fun in Phoenix. I saw a juvenile Bald Eagle at Liberty Wildlife. Tomorrow, if it doesn’t rain, we might go to the Copper-State Rally. Monday we’re going to a Suns game. Everyone is usually really nice about letting Grandpa take my picture. I guess it’s OK if I don’t have a picture of me standing beside a racing car. Flat Nolan 602-788-6553

I dont even know where to begin... We moved from TX to Macon Ga... and we wet to drop off the truck while we had help. When we called the number they said they were not a drop off center.. So we waited until the next day 5 min before they closed this is due to being new to the area... We had 3/4 of a tank of gas remaining and was told it would not be that much to fill. SO to our surprise 3 days later our card was billed 126.00..... WTF for to add 1/4 of the tank... So when I called gave us the run around and said we sign a contract saying we would pay 8 dollars a gallon we went back to look at paperwork on our copy there were no intitals and the copy we recieved at drop off didnt have our millage or gas remaing on your copy... This is highway robbery... they said they charge that for having someone to fill the truck and a full restocking fee.. Hello why should I pay a restocking fee on the only pump they had and it was diesel. The truck we used was gas..... The are crooked never again.

My story of Penske....I was very dissapointed with Penske. We rented the truck to go accross the US from Ohio to Utah. Our truck borke down the second day of use. My husband and 7 year old son and our family dog were in the Penske truck. Myself, my infant, toddler and older daughter were driving ahead of them. We could not leave Ohio until the massive ice storm passed, but once we left, had to use our time wisely because another storm was coming through WY and we had to make it through. So, the truck broke down and I was already an hour ahead of my husband, and couldn't afford to turn around, due to my small children being tierd, cranky, etc. My husband had to wait for 30 mins for a phone call back from someone from Penske, and then another 2 hours for someone to come look at his truck. He then was told our things would have to be swapped to a new truck and had to wait for that, until the next day. Meanwhile, I had their extra clothes, my sons jacket, etc. To make a long story short, my small children and I made it through the storm, however due to the truck breaking down (due to lack of proper maintenace) Penske put my son and husband in the middle of the massive storm in WY. Our belonging were soaked from being put out in the rain, waiting to be swapped to another truck, and I have had to re-wash everything!!!! We are a military family and have always used United Rental, and will NEVER use Penske again....no one will compensate us for anything and we keep getting the run-around.....terrible experience for such a well known company. I am very dissapointed!!!!!

Typical of most all PENSKE Employees, they hire young college kids who are both unorganized - Disorganized and Clueless, and totally have no skills in communication at all - your not alone trust me !!! Most of the upper Management thru out the system is the same way, Clueless, and treat their employees like shit anyway, most of their Trucks break down anyway and have to be towed - their Management style is runing this company, and it starts at the Corporate Headquarters !

I am writing to share my disappointment with the Penske Corporation regarding my rental contract for a car dolly. On the date of the pick-up, for a 1PM pick-up I found the rental store closed. It is true that I could not get to the site until 1:25, but it was a Monday and no special hours were listed for the site. I had a truck rental and the car dolly rental for different days, Penske confirmed my appointments with me, yet when they closed a store early, no phone calls were make to inform me that they wanted to close this store early. This is from the Penske reservation form: o Pick Up On: 10/11/10 1:00 PM At: JULIE'S ANTIQUES (916)783-9000 HOURS: MON 8:00 AM-4:30 PM 625 B VERNON STREET Loc # 0114-27 ROSEVILLE , CA 95678 Penske Rental Confirmation - 24939549 This is poor service. I had to fly back to pick up the car and drive it separtly, a complete waste of time and money. When talking to the service center and the local district office, no one was very concerned.
