People that Care

I have worked for Home Instead for several years. I beleive in this company & the Great Team that puts it together & works so hard to keep it going. I do take it personal! When I am on call, I eagerly jump to get the call (what if this was my framily member needing help or my family member needing guidance on what to do with a sitution). Personal Care is 24/7. When getting an inquire, I strive to do the Care Consoltation as soon as the potentional client agrees when they have time, stiving to go out within a few hrs of the call. I am so Blessed to have my Team Co Workers, not only in the office, but also in the field. We are a family striving to help other families and it shows! Thank You Home Instead!

ive been this this company for almost six yrs now. the office staff changes more than the caregivers do. within a yr the almost entire office staff has been replaced for one reason or another and yes ive has gotten tx unemployment paid 2 me on the claim i filed a little while back before i went back 2 work, ive worked for other company before them even with there problems they are a good company 2 work for, my main problem is they should really try harder to match up the clients with the caregivers for example the person im working with now had lots of different people before me.. i work in the bayarea office here in houston txand grip os we dont always get all the information we as the caregivers need about the client untill we are in the home of the client.

I have worked for this company for 2 years. All of the above reviews could be about me.I was given incorrect information by the office, and as a result, was written up and told I would be terminated. The office is ignoring me so they can say I quit, and they don't have to pay unemployment. This company treats it's employees and clients like crap. Lying(for everyone's "own good") is common and promoted. We are put into homes to do things that are strictly against regulations, such as handling meds. The owner is backstabbing and abusive, and she only cares about the money, not what's best for the client. The training is terrible, especially for Alzhiemer's and dementia clients. The office staff are no help. I urge anyone who is looking for elder care to avoid HomeInstead. They deserve better.

The south lincolnshire branch in longsutton missed calls and left an elderly longsutton client lying on the floor in her own urine and in a very confused state. The son told me " they nearly killed my mother " and she is now in a nursing home How is this allowed to happen when there is clear evidence of neglect and bad management yet they continue to trade and get away with it. elderabuse.org.uk

I Worked for the long sutton branch i enjoyed my work visiting clients i was well liked had no complaints yet when i had a greviance i was not helped i felt very let down by the management i had my appearance mocked because a caregiver lied and said i left notes (unproven) even though they were supposidly written in the client logs and on scrap pieces of paper bearing in mind they could not even remember what was written on them and why because i hadnt written any i took the firm to a tribunal and all the witnesses swore on oath and lied. The judge beleived them im just lucky it wasnt a murder inquiry as i would of got life justice has failed me.I would not recommend this care firm as even i was sent out before my crb check was in place and also a carer used to trick an elderly man and still works there and also i witnessed a pharathegic client deliberatly being wound up by carers and they would telephone the office so they could leave early and still get paid for it how disgusting is this. I also have a lot more to say about this company.I did complain higher up but you can guess they covered it up as they received a telephone call first before a visit say no more. This firm made me think about taking my own life as i had no choice but to leave they never even paid me my holiday pay and postdated my final pay cheque to be vindictive im so glad im not working for this company anymore and i no longer feel suicidal.

I HAD WORKED FOR THIS COMPANY FOR OVER TWO YEARS. I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN HOW UNORGANIZED AND UNPROFESSIONAL THEY ARE; I HAD SUBMITTED 3 DIFFERENT APPLICATIONS AND WHEN I FINALLY CALLED THE OFFICE I WAS TOLD BY THE DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY APPLICATIONS FOR ME. EVENTUALLY I WAS HIRED. ON MARCH 14,2012 I WAS TERMINATED AND FALSELY ACCUSED OF NOT GIVING PROPER CARE TO ONE OF MY CLIENTS. I WAS NEVER GIVEN A CHANCE TO REDEEM MYSELF. THE DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS TOTALLY DISRESPECTED ME AND NEVER REALLY ALLOWED ME TO EXPLAIN. SHE ALSO STATED THAT I WAS NOT A GOOD CAREGIVER, WHICH LEFT ME WONDERING WHY THEY KEPT ME ON THE PAYROLL FOR OVER TWO YEARS. I HAVE OVER A PERIOD OF TIME WATCHED THIS SUPERVISOR BULLY AND DISRESPECT HER FELLOW OFFICE WORKERS AND EMPLOYEES OF HOME INSTEAD. THIS BECAME VERY UPSETTING TO ME, HOWEVER I DID NOT WANT TO LEAVE BECAUSE OF MY CLIENTS. MY WISH IS THAT THE RIGHT PERSON OR PERSONS WILL READ THIS AND REMEDY THE SITUATION. IT IS TOO LATE FOR MYSELF AND MY CLIENTS, BUT HOPEFULLY THIS PERSON WILL BE STOPPED BEFORE ANOTHER CLIENT HAS TO SUFFER AT HER HANDS.

---The short version: I was not allowed to complete the required Alzheimer's training class. I was allowed to take 5 of the 6 classes then lied to that the classes had been "cancelled until further notice". As a result, I was not paid the $100 bonus I was promised and have not received the training credentials that, although not really necessary, would have been nice. I was LIED TO, bullied, ignored, and disrespected by the franchise owner and other HR reps of the Stoney Brook franchise office in Louisville, KY. ---The long version: As an employee (not for much longer) of the Hurstbourne Pkwy/Stoney Brook office, I was recently treated very badly. I followed all the steps required for continued employment. I was months into employment when I signed up for the Alzheimer's class. I was diligent about attending every class. One week was postponed so the owner could go out of town (she said) but she was actually in town on class days and only made the change to accommodate 1 particular student. On the 5th class, the franchise owner said the final class was to be cancelled. I was sent over to scheduling to pick up shifts, though I had not requested any shifts. I wondered why I was being pushed to pick up ongoing schedules. There was nothing open that would fit my full-time days at another job. The next day, I received a call from the owner, BB, and she practically insisted I pick up an ongoing assignment. I did at that time but later felt uncomfortable with being tricked and forced so I cancelled the ongoing portion but kept 1 scheduled day. ---When I arrived to work the 1 day, I was there 5 minutes when another worker arrived saying she was scheduled and was more familiar with the client. We called the franchise office and was first told the schedule stays as is with my working. Within a few minutes, we received a call that I was to leave and the other person was to work but that I could work elsewhere otherwise I would not be paid for the 15 min I had already been there. I declined. ---The next Friday, I called to notify of my availability. According to the HISC handbook, it is required that Caregivers call every 30 days to notify of availability or work 1 shift to remain employed with the company. I called every Friday for the past 3 or more weeks. I also called during the week on some weeks. Since I had a check waiting, I went to pick it up in the evening. One HR person approached me so quickly that it startled me. It was as if she was out to get me. She had me sign a paper stating I had 2 weeks to turn in the training books. I explained I had completed them and had planned to turn them in on the final day of training but since I was not allowed to attend, I did not get them in. ---I was then taken to one HR person's office and told that I was not allowed to complete class because the owner did not want to "waste money on me" if I was not going to work an ongoing schedule. I was shocked and insulted. First, they knew my work schedule before the start of the Alzheimer's training. I had been picking up shifts the same way for over a month-not ongoing. It was not a problem then, so why was it suddenly a problem. Secondly, there was nothing ever stated that anyone had to have an ongoing schedule or work so many hours to take the training. Thirdly, that training is listed as a "requirement for continued employment" in the HISC training book. Finally, I was not told this in advance. I was made to take 5 of 6 classes then just deceived and discarded. ---The franchise owner feels that because she holds that title, she can treat people any way she likes. She changes the rules any time and with any person she desires. She lies to workers and clients. She made it known during training that lying to clients is perfectly acceptable since they will forget very quickly. That should have been a warning to me that lying came very easy for her. ---I e-mailed the owner how I felt and have not heard anything from her. She apparently does not feel the need to resolve this issue. With her, people have to do things her way only-even when she changes her way at the final hour. I enjoy working with the elderly but I know I've been lied to and tricked and cannot continue to work with that office unless something is done to rectify the situation.

A family member worked for the franchise in Illinois covering the Will County area. The owners behaviors are erratic, judgemental and unprofessional. My family member was promoted then 3 weeks later termed because a disgruntled employee said she defamed them on Face Book.Ridiculous.Furthermore, they are not even on her private Face Book, they accessed it without consent. In addition, nothing wrong or foul was ever written about the company.I am a professional with a high level degree and was appalled at a scene I viewed upon going to this office.I witnessed a verbal lashing of that same disgruntled employee who was demoted, the employee was called a variety of obscene names by the owner and is coincidentally still employed. The demoted employee was not present but both owners, office manager, my family member and I were. She was called fat, ugly, not like "us", had a loser husband and so on.The treatement of the care giver's are equally as bad.My family member came home upset several times as their Recruiter not knowing quite what to do as the owner verbally berates the care giver's and noone steps up to stop it.She was promoted 3 wks ago and termed yesterday due to apparent gossip about that Face Book post that never happened. She is a single mother and I am disgusted at the ill treatment this specific Home Instead office has on their employees. While she pays for child care she has babysat for the owners daughter in the office many times as well as perform her job.I had to watch my family members kids so she can work weekend fairs and go on nighttime service calls she recieved no pay for or bonus.I was saddened for her that she thought she was getting a promotion and that this person they told me was so wonderful and a great asset was now being reduced to tears. She was reduced to now having to fight for unemployment which they said they will fight. They are now saying she violated HIPPA of which they made no mention of yesterday. If you are looking for an honest, down to earth, family orientated company to care for your senior, I assure you this is not the company for you.It is about the bottom line for them.Employees do not recieve raises, overtime or any of the like.Because this troubled my her she came up with many great ideas that were put in effect for the care givers and families.I am proud to have her in my family and we stand behind her with the most respect as a person and as an employee who tried to do a great job.It is with great sadness I write this.It is with purpose though as I hope notice is taken.I hope the care givers speak out about how they are treated like second class citizens.I hope that they are made accountable for the treatment of others and learn the hard, yet valuble lesson that care giving is not about the bottom line.As a sister to a deceased childhood brain cancer patient who provided him loving care as did my family member, I speak this.As I cared lovingly for both my grandparents who grew old and ill with cancer and I sat vigil with them with my family until the end, I speak with knowledge and heart. It is within the caring individual and heart of the care giver that the person finds comfort, not the bottom line.As they drive home to the comfort of their homes in their fancy automobiles while the care givers drive and dress with less frill but with a passion to help someones life be better, I feel sad.I feel sad not that a company is thriving well enough for Cadillac's, BMW's and the like to be driven by the owners but that the care givers who are often less off aren't noticed with so much as a 10 cent raise. And that their jobs and the jobs of workers like my family member are held over their heads to dangle mid air and made to humilate and jump for being a source of control is disheartening. You may get a great care giver but one that is behind the scenes treated horribly. Now they will make employees rebut this by forcing them to write opposing views such as my family member had to do on another website they are promoting their company on.This is not just the family member of a dejected employee. This is a person who witnessed herself the very behavior of these owners and would never use them for my own family knowing how the care givers and employees are treated.I can't stress it enough, it is the heart of the care giver in which good help is found....and those persons should be respected and looked to for emulation and reward as it is a hard and often heart wreching job.Good luck and God Bless in finding the right company for your loved one and please beware. Some people won't buy clothes made outside the US due to the low funding and child labor and working conditions of the employees, such should be the same for US companies of the like.
