I have always been a CATO fan until recently. My daughter applied for a job there after graduating high school and was hired. She liked the job but felt that one particular employee disliked her and she could not figure out why since she did not know the lady. When it was time for her first pay check everyone else received their pay with the exception of my daughter. She was informed about three days before they were scheduled to be paid that there was an issue with her social numbers being transposed but was told that it was handled and she would get paid. NOT!!!! She was informed by one of the managers that she could not take care of it at the moment but could on Monday. When that Monday came she called to speak with the manager that told her she would try and get things taken care of only to find out from the asst. store manager that the other manager was on vacation. Why did she not tell my daughter that she was not going to be in??? We both went into the store since we were'nt getting anywhere on the phone and I asked for the number to the Corporate office. Of course this ignorant --- said they had no corporate office. She did say that their district manager was in the store and when we asked if we could speak to her she said she was on a conference call. We waited 20 minutes to speak with the district maager and still did not see her. The rude asst. store manager that said there was no corporate office told me that the district manager was not going to want to discuss a payroll issue with me. Well how does she know what the lady would be willing to discuss with us or not? If it was her money she would want to know why she did not get paid. I immediately told her that I was not trying to be rude but that this was my daughter's first experience in the "real" working world being that she just graduated from high school and I was only trying to help her get the issue resolved as to why she had not been paid when she had worked the hours and was not getting any answers as to when she would be paid. It has been a week and she still has not received her pay. Not only that she was terminated by the asst. store manager whom my daughter felt never really cared for her. She called my daughter at home the day before to see if she would be in to work on her scheduled day and she told her my daughter sayd yes as far as she knew. My daughter told her that the three and a half weeks she's been working there no one has called to make sure she was coming in to work. When my daughter got to work on that scheduled day the asst. store manager (the one that dislikes her) told her she would not be needing her today or anyother day. How rude of a so called "grown" woman to do this to a 18 year old on the store floor instead of taking her to the back and being professional. My daughter told her how unprofessional it was of her and also told her that she knew she was planning to let her go when she called her at home the day before. My daughter asked why was she being let go and all the lady could say was because of her attitude. My daughter has not worked with this lady but once since she's been employeed by CATO and that's when she immediately told me that she got the vibe that this person disliked her. My daughter told her that just because she did not lag around and talk personal issues with her and the other employees made it seems as though she had an attitude towards them was her (the asst. store mgr.)being unprofessional and as long as she had a positivie attitude to the customers that was all that should have mattered. I think there are a lot of the CATO employees that need to take a course in customer service 101 because they are rude, especially this asst. store manager here who thinks she is Ms. Cato and that everyone has to do what she says or else! Maybe The Cato Corporation does not care how unprofessional their managers and asst. managers are because all of the reviews I have read with the exception of 1 has been about how rude and unprofessional their managers and employees are...Maybe it's a good thing my daughter isn't working there anymore but they need to pay her her money, this is not gimme Texas and she was not working for free!!!

Why does CATO corp require employees to scream as soon as you walk in the store...so unprofessional!!! And here in Alabama, the employees are also rude, talking to each other about issues which need to be left at home or whispered!!! On the cell phones, store phones, screaming to each other across the store. Standing around while clerk has a line of patrons at register. Ignorant and very backward clerks and managers!!!! Will not return to a CATO ever again. I know it is a low end store, but is that any reason to treat patrons is this fashion???? NO, it is not. Macys, Belk, and high end boutiques do not behave in this manner???? Maybe, just maybe, they are on the way out of business. so sad.

For the several of you who apparently don't even know the store you are talking about...It's CATO...not Catos. And I have had great service there! They are the about the only store I can go into who give me low prices, yet offer fashion advice and service that is rare to find these days. I'm disappointed in the reviews above me, and its hard not to get defensive when I have shopped at Cato for a majority of my adulthood...I actually like the fact that when you enter the store they acknowledge you with a friendly hello! ...Also, Renee if you work in customer service, isn't it rude anyway to go into a store AT THEIR POSTED closing time? ...and is it fair to automatically jump to the conclusion that the cashier tried to steal from you? I find that very ignorant...She probably wanted to go home and rest after dealing with people like you.

On 1/ 22/ 2011 about 8 pm I was shopping at the catos on Bedford and harwood in tx for my daughters school close , as I entered the store I asked the employee " you close at 9 pm ?" An employee replyed yes so I continued to shop while I was shopping my daughter went to try on close as she asked the lady can you open dressing room for me ? The employee said yes and rolled her eyes at my daughter , well I didn't say anything to her at the time... As I was brousing around looking at new things for sale my dauhter was ready to go so we headed up to register and the employee as she was checking us out I paid with a $100.00 bill the employee was fast counting my change back that I counted it when she handed it to me she counted it as if she ment to take my $20. Bill I had told the employee where's my $20. Bill that she didn't give to me her face turned red and gave me my $20. Bill I was quite upset she try to scaffle my $20. Bill and give me incorrect change back . If I could show you how she did it I'd fire her right on the spot!!!!!! After that the emoyee kept asking me if I wanted my reciept in the bag I told her that's fine I also asked her if she was in a hurry ? She basicly made me feel like I was been rushed out of the store ... As I was leaving I turned around went back up to the register asked her for her corporate number and her name she refused to give me her name several times as she was trying to find the corporate number she was taking her time and told me she can't find it so I told her never mind I'll get it from saganaw tx number where I do know a manager that use to work there personaly I told the employee not to worry I'll get it don't even bother any more and I proceeded out the door . I sat in my car and called the catos off of saganaw tx and talked with traci/ terri couldn't catch her name told her what happened forgot mention the $20. Bill I was so upset talking with the manager over there and she told me she was going to take care of the problem and have a corporate lady call me soon I gave her my name and number and hung up..... I always shop at catos that is the worst customer service I have ever had at catos and to sneak my $20.00 like the employee did that's theft right off the bat . I deal with customer service every day and I'd be damn if I treat any customer the way she did to me last night . I will not return to that store in Bedford tx . If I was a secret shopper she would have not passed be glad that I wasn't !!!! That employee should be fired poor attitude and very poor to represent your store . (817)994-6911 thanks

Cato was at one time my favorite store to shop at, because of their sales staff and so called policies on giving store credits on refunds, I will no longer shop there and will advise my friends and family not to shop there either. If I pay the store in cash, then my refund should be in cash, not a merchandise store credit. Add in the nastiness of the store staff and I KNOW I will no longer shop there or have anything more to do with ANY Cato store!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had been paying on an item every 2 weeks and when I came back this weekend to pick up the item, I was told by the sales ladies that it had been put back. I had NOT been called nor notified at all or even told it was going to be put back when I had paid on it the two weeks before. They even tried to tell me that I had not paid for the item since 10/16/2010 when in fact that was a bold faced lie. Again, they claim that I should have gotten it out by 10/28/2010 when in fact again no one called me. I asked them why in the world wasn't I told this two weeks ago when I paid on it? Well, they said, they "don't do that sort of thing" (calling to notify customers) and that the corporate office was supposed to have called me. In my opinion the employees in the store should have called me. Luckily they found my item still in the store and I angrily instructed them to put it back in layaway. I was given a Cato card for the amount I had paid on the item to use "as I wish". WHAT? Of course, I wanted it to be put towards the item in question that was placed back in layaway. Unbelievable. I guarantee you I will not do another layaway at this particular Catos in the future. In fact I'm going to tell everyone I know about this particular Cato site because they did was not only unprofessional, it was an unacceptable practice from a store. Thank you One thing I suggest that the Cato Corporation Corporate Headquarters needs to do is interview their employees more thoroughly in the future.

At the Cato store in Durham, NC it's hit or miss. The sales ladies there may yell out the "Welcome to Cato" greeting from the back of the store or they may just ignore you, even though they hear the door chimes ring and see you walk in. More often than not they ignore me. They are usually laughing loudly or heavily involved in a conversation with each other or another customer. You could be standing right near the counter and it's as if you're invisible. I try to go to other Cato's such as Hillsboro, NC or Rocky Mt., NC location but sometimes it's just not convenient. I then drive to our local mall and go to Macy's or Belk's. I prefer Cato's because I can find skirts that are so incredible long like I wear, but I'm not going to be abused especially when I'm doing the spending of my almighty dollar. Do you think I'm stupid? Improve or continue to lose customers. Get smart Cato management!

I purchased several items at a store that is about 15-20 minutes from my home. One of the items didn't find it's way into my bag. The next day I went into my local store to return one of the items & told the manager about the missing item. She immediately informed me that I would have to return to the other store to pick it up. When I explained that wasn't convenient, she said there was nothing she could do. She did call the other to store & confirmed that the sales clerk had left the purchased item on the counter, but never apologized and offered no viable resolution. This was a $6 item that was left out of my bag by the sales clerk and I am expected to drive 15-20 minutes to pick it up. I am attempting to contact corporate to resolve this in a reasonable manner.

Just thought I would share my thoughts about the CATO in Denham Springs, LA. I have been in the store twice lately (Mgmt (I was familiar with, is not there or has changed) When someone walks into the store, the workers at the cash register, (at the back of the store) SCREAM. "WELCOME TO CATOS". This is not a good atmosphere for customers there shopping. Also have noticed that workers are carrying on conversation about personal issues. I have always like the store, up until the last 2 or 3 mos. Thank you
