I have been a Cato customer for a few years now. I love the service I have never had a problem. With an employee are the great customer service the ladies provide at my location in Dallas, tx.

Will not return to Cato in hometown. Was in there Friday afternoon and could hear someone yelling in the back. Was told by associate waiting on me, that it was the DM I could hear yelling at another employee. I felt uncomfortable in the store, and was going to buy a few things, but when they exited the back room my heart just fell out of my chest. It was clear this poor girl had been balling her eyes out, and the other lady was walking, or should say, strutting around with big smile on her face. Next time consider the customers first, and do your scolding quieter, because this customer put all her merchandise back on the racks, and left with NO intentions on returning!

I have been shopping at one of our local cato stores for years now up until yesterday, me and my two small children were in cato. I was looking for a specific color shirt and we were in there for about an hour when my youngest child started to whine and get frustrated because we were there too long. i then became aggravated and just put the things in my hand on the rack and leave out of the store because my four yr.old was embarrasing. we leave to go to the game store right in front of the Cato store. I go in make my purchase and come out to find police surrounding my car with my children in it. the officer approaches me and asks if i had the merchandise that i had in Cato, i replied that i left it in the store and left because my child was starting to fuss, he then replies that the lady in cato states that i took items, long story short after being humiliated with my children in the car and passerbys watching, i was searched and nothing was found then i had to go to the store and show her where i had put the items in front of the other customers for her to give the police officers (it was three) a thumbs up and he said all is clear. She then states "well i saw you with items in your hand and when i look at you again you had nothing and i simply reply so because i did not make a purchase im a thief!!! i have no reason to steal i have a very good job and i work hard for everything that i buy and then the police officer states well did your children take anything and I said no they did not because they are taught not to take things that do not belong to them. i have never been humiliated before in my life like that and she was the manager. I am a 31 yr. old black woman and i have been discriminated against. she offered no apology for wrongly accusing me of this. I will never shop at any of their stores again!

I had a layaway that I chose not to continue. I understand they keep restocking fees and layaway fees but what gives them the right to keep my money because I don't show up in a certain amount of time to pick it up. When I asked for a manager to show me in writing any time frame, the store employee could not produce a manager or a store policy at the McAllen Tx store. A store credit wasnt even offered. I'm not letting this go.

I have been shopping at our local Cato store almost every week with my daughter because we love the earrings and their purses. I went this evening and purchased 2 pair of earrings and perfume. We left...WITH RECEIPT IN HAND and went to an adjacent store. Five minutes after we had been shopping at the store, the cashier from Cato came pounding at the store window and yelling at us. She came into the store and said I did not pay for my merchandise and I was trying to steal. My 10 year old daughter was with me and customers were staring at me. I showed her the reciept and she said it was rung up wrong and I was trying to get away without paying for the merchandise. I had to leave the store and walk back to Cato with the woman and my daughter. We walk into the store and the manager was on the phone and she sees me and says into the phone really loudly in front of the customers, "Never mind, we have her." I was mortified. I threw the merchandise on the counter and said, "Keep your merchandise" and I walked out. I WILL NEVER SHOP AT CATO AGAIN!!! Are you kidding me???

For those of you who know how this place is so great have had the wool pulled over your eyes. I am a friend of a person that works for this corporation and let me tell you, that I have felt bad for her so many times. She works off the clock at times for free because so much is demanded of her, not that she is behind, but because that's the way it operates at this place. She is taken out of her store by her DM on so many occasions to go out of town to go and clean other stores, but done secretively by her DM. She is expected to punch in manually for 8 hours, but may put in 12 and she doesn't get compensated for it. And on top of that she expected to make up a few hours for that 8 hour day which she really put in twelve, so as to make up for that 8 hour day. I know it makes no sense at all. I blame the DM for this and corporate for not keeping tabs on their managers or their stores. There are times that she works till 1 o'clock in the morning off the clock because she is getting ready for an audit the next day. What I don't understand is why don't the auditors get there first thing in the morning to perform their audit. They get there after the store has been open and after customers have already pretty much disturbed all in the store and then she gets points taken off because of that. Who operates like that? Remember the store closes at 9 and she is there till 1 o'clock in the morning. Why aren't the DM's being audited and kept tabs on. I know first hand that some of these DM's are taking advantage of their position by lying about where they are when they are really somewhere else and get away with it, because know one is checking on them. They fix up their paperwork to show they are at a particular store when they are really not. My friend is at another store, not hers at the discretion of their DM, without anyone knowing. The store they are all going too needs help, and so that the DM doesn't look bad, she has taken these other managers from other stores to go and fix this store, when they should be at home with their families. The clothes you bye are made for few cents on the dollar and you pay outrageous prices for something that only took a few cents to make, but that's how it works. The wool hasn't just gotten pulled over some of you that think this place is so great, but also over the corporation. This place needs to treat their employees better and keep a tab on their DM's. It starts at the top.

The store in Prestonsburg, Kentucky, needs to reevaulate their staff or have a training session on how to treat their customers. Had a bad experience there today. Drove 30 miles to shop, found some really nice things and was still shopping, when suddenly a shelf fell from the wall and came within inches of hitting my daughter and 2 yr old granddaughter in the head! Thank God it didn't, but if it had, there would have been serious injury. When this happened, it made such a loud noise, some sales lady, came over and my daughter said, "no one touched it, it just fell" and she grabbed the shelf, moved it and walked away!! She didn't even have the decency to ask if everyone was ok, or apologize. I understand things can happen, but act like you care. Because, without customers/consumers, the businesses don't survive. I called for the manager, who wasn't in, so I spoke with the asst manager or so they said, and all she said was, she was sorry and didn't know what else she could do, but she would talk to the employee. No more shopping in the store!! No wonder we shop out of town!! I've never had a bad experience at any store in Charleston or Huntington. 1

I went into Cato's in Ennis Texas to exchange an item. I walked up to the employee and told her what I needed to do and she asked if I wanted to see if there was something in the store I might like I said sure. I found a dress and asked her for the pole to get it down, and she said she had to get it. She walked and I told her to give me the XL. She immediately yelled at me and said "this does not come in that size so what size do you need. I said "the XL" she yelled at me again and at that point I told her to give me money and I would never at Cato's againI asked her not to raise her voice at me and she went into a rage. The mgr came out and she continued to scream I told her that I was going to call 911 because I felt threatened. I have seen the time when no one would have been to talk to me like that and did feel my hands on them, but thanks to God I have changed. She bolted out the back door of the business and slamed the door. The mgr finished my transaction and only after I asked for both of their and the store and said I would never shop at cato's again did the mgr apologize. If that been me or anyone else in a customer role they would have been fired on the spot. She came later to apologize but it was too late the damage had been done. I work in a customer service capacity and I would never talked to a customer in that manner. That was the worst exprience of my life. I plan on boycotting that store.

I gave Cato 1 star because there wasn't anything less. I had a layaway at the Colonial Heights, Va. store. Went to store one day late to pick it up. Was informed that they put it back. I can live with that, tho, I don't agree with it. What I didn't like was that they charged me a $5.00 restocking fee, and gave me a store gift card for the refund. I told her I wasn't planning on shopping with them anymore, but, didn't do any good. She was very rude. I asked if the merchandice might still be in the store, and she said she didn't know. A real manager might have offered to help me find it. I went home, and got everything I had bought there in the last 90 days, which was returnable, and returned it. That was my last transaction in that store. The gift card will be just that. A gift to someone. Whatever happened to the customer is always right? Oh, they told me they called me before putting back. Does not show up on my caller ID.

The reason that I gave the store a 3 star rating is because the service is pretty good, and I would rate it higher but for a particular reason I can not and here is why.....I my self have put in several application in at the Silsbee, Texas 77656 store and I was told they were not hiring, two days later I see a new face, I ask her when did you get hired and she said just yesterday and I said really, When I turned in my application, the manager accepted it and said that we are not hiring but your application was good for so many days and I would have to do it again....times goes by and I kept calling leaving my name and phone number ask them if they were hiring and they would say yes and when i would come into the store, I guess the name didnt match up with the voice or something or the skin tone one....the manger would tell me a certain time she was going to call me in for an interview and never got the phone call but I waited for it, but every time I would come into the store their would be new people, yes to be honest I was a little hurt and let down but I never treated them wrong or rude, because I was taught that you dont treat people the way they treat you but treat them the way that you want to be treated.....but I cant help but to notice that everyone who was black that worked there didnt work there long and I havent seen a black employee in that store in a loooooong time....lets say that her experience with working with blacks havent been good, but it doesnt justify the fact that she stop hiring blacks altogether because of that, that is not fair at all, judging all blacks by a few blacks, it would be like me saying all whites hate black people because of what their ancestors did to our ancestors (enslave,raped,killed, sold etc.) Is it not against the law to not hire certain races? The store that I thought I would never walk in and see a black person working in is the Lumberton, Texas store because is mostly whites in this little town, and they are more friendlier and everything.....at least they are friendly to me....

I was in your store in new Albany, Indiana and this lady was ranting and raving and she threw the phone then went in the back of the store and started throwing things. I found out it was the store manager named Chris. It did not look very good for someone in her position to act that way. There sews quite a few customers in there. If she can't handle the job you need to get rid of her. Customers don't want to see that.

I too have been shopping at my closest store in Laporte, IN for years, but after my visit yesterday bI wont be back. There were 3 employees in the store & I was ready to check only to have to stand at the register for 3 minutes with no help the lady did look at me but continued with what she was doing no I'll be right there or nothing whenshe did finallycome & ring my order told me the total & then walked away to help someone find a dressing room I again waited no excuse me I'll be right back or nothing. She then started to come back to the register but stopped to help someone else. I did have a very active 2yr old with me after another 2 minutes I yelled into the dressing room to let her know that she could keep the clothes & disrespect & would be taking my money elsewhere. Seeing as though my family where the only African Americans in the store, how do you think I felt?? Will be taking my money where I am treated as well as anyone else & as I do work for one of the largest employers of people in the area I plan to let everyone know about my experience.

Cato has some of the RUDEST CUSTOMERS in the U.S. I've been shopping there for years and the customers treat the employees like slaves. They are rude! My daughter works there and I want her to quit so bad because the customers KNOW the policies and raise and uproar when they want someone to break the rules for them. It's the CORPS fault.... The policies are too lax. 90 day return policy ... Really!?! Who does that!? Layaways not put back because you are too BROKE to pay them on time!? That's way too long and people still don't appreciate that. Just awful. Some of you should reflect on how YOU treat the employees. You get respect when you give it. Those workers work hard, too bad you are too busy complaining and coming in the store 5 mins to close, to see that. Spoiled, and ungrateful.

I LOVe Catos and that is where I buy 99% of my clothes. They are moving out of Salisbury and I guess I will have to go around naked! Please keep at least one of your stores in Salisbury, NC! Thanks much! snixchance@gmail.com

Also, I had put a sweater on layaway after i spent 100bucks in there. i paid 20.00 on a 25.00 sweater and i was supposed to pick it up yeasterday. I called Nov 30th and explained that i would not be able to make it until December 2nd. I was told that would be just fine they would hold it fro me. I arrived just befor 3pm Today (December 2nd) and the sales lady told me she put it back. I said you put it back but i called and she oh well . I asked her if she would get it for me and tlod her that i had called she snottily said i dont know what to tell you. I am done with Cato,s. This is a little town and alot of my friend do go there we will boycott if this is not made right. That is stealing.I am a single mom and barely making it. 20.00 is alot of money to be taken away from some snotty sales people.

The CATO Derby Kansas store manager was very rude towards me today (11/4/11) she has a chip on her shoulder, talks down to customers and the way she talked about herself she thinks highly of herself. I was not impressed by her bad attitude towards me and the other customers in the store. I have been in the Derby KS store a dozen times and most times there was only 1-2 employees. They scream out "Welcome to CATO" every time I have visited this establishment. It is stupid, annoying and low class to do this...honestly, you don't have to scream at everyone that walks in the door. Today the manager was reprimanding an employee in front of customers, it was horrible really, the employee looked mortified and didn't seem to know what to do with the information the manager kept repeating loudly to her. Most of the clothing at CATO is made in China or some other country outside of America. It is a shame that more stores do not have clothing made in America. Some of the clothing at the Derby KS store looks made cheaply hence made in China and I wouldn't wear it. The prices are cheap but made in China is going to be cheap. Something ought to be done about the rude managers and employees but I can speak loudly by taking my American dollars to Lane Bryant and other stores that treat you like a queen when you visit them....sometimes a lower price isn't worth it.....won't be going back to the Derby KS store any time soon.

I have went into Cato in Rome,ga several times in hopes for getting my attire for after my wedding. A very nice young lady (black & didn't get her name) helped me find almost everything I needed intil she was called to help another customer. It MIGHT have been fine IF she was finished with me or if the manager cared she was helping me.When I told the very nice young lady I'd like to see the manager, she informed me that she IS the manager. I asked could I speake to her manager since she was the one being rude and was told she IS the store manager. Boy to my surprise she was. Wished I had Mr.Cato phone number to let him really know the store manager needs to go and the very very nice black lady needs to be the boss. Never again will I shop @ Cato while THE STORE MANAGER IS EMPLOYEED THERE unless there are changes made.....................

I have been a long time Cato shopper and have never encountered the rudeness that I did today. I work very close to the Cato store in Gadsden, AL and shop there at least every couple of weeks. I went into and attempted to purchase 2 skirts that were on the clearance rack, one marked 7.99 and the other 10.99. When my purchase was rang up the total was almost 30.00. I questioned the sales associate about it and apparently the 7.99 skirt was marked incorrectly and rang up 15.99. She told me that she would have to give it to me at the marked price but had to double check with her manager. The manager refused to sell me the skirt at the marked price. She went and pulled all of the other skirts like it off the rack and they were all marked correctly. She was EXTREMELY rude & hateful about the whole situation. I explained to her that I had worked retail in the past and that regardless of the mistake the price had to be honored. I was told she didn't care what I had done in the past and that she was not going to honor the price and then proceeded to change it right in front of me. I am just curious what kind of training the managers of these stores go through? I will not be doing business in that store again.

I wrote a check and it was done ACH I had to sign a receipt they handed the check back. I asked them to shred it and they said they would. Instead I had two debits from my bank account. I have called numerous times for numerous days and still nothing. They told me to call their bank like they are going to tell me anything. I have called corporate all I get is answering machines when transferred I have left messages at corporate. It has cost me extra money to get a copy from my bank where the check shows voided. I just want my money back and something for the trouble and expenses I have incured. THis happened at the Kirnwood store in Dallas TX. I will not go into a Cato after this is resolved.
